Seagull Angle Finder 1X 2.5X

According provided by viewfinder Seagull Angle Finder 1X 2.5X many thanks to Yarysh Alexey.

Seagull Angle Finder 1X 2.5X

Seagull Angle Finder 1X 2.5X - a special nozzle that is mounted on JVI camera instead of the standard 'eyecup'. In order to install it, you need to remove the soft nozzle from JVI cameras. Initially, the viewfinder was equipped with a set of interchangeable nozzles for installation on various types of cameras. However, the viewfinder came to me for review already redone for installation on Nikon cropped cameras.

The viewfinder head freely rotates 360 degrees (but does not tilt), while Seagull has two modes of operation with different magnification factors: 1X - the entire rectangular area of the main JVI, 2.5X - 2.5th magnification of the central area of the main JVI... The viewfinder has a diopter adjustment of + -4D, and when switching between the magnification factor, you have to make such an adjustment.

Seagull is made in China, the diopter adjustment ring is rubberized, as is the eyecup. Build quality is not bad. The viewfinder comes in a small, pleasant case.

You have to get used to working with such a viewfinder for a long time. When used on a full-frame Canon 5D camera, I had to look strictly perpendicular to JVIotherwise, nothing was visible at all. Picture itself in JVI bright, but seriously suffers from unnecessary distortion and chromatic aberrations, which sometimes 'cut' the eye. I personally didn't like the Seagull viewfinder.

Thank you for attention. Arkady Shapoval.

I absolutely do not see the point in such an accessory (((

  • Nikitos

This, apparently, is the "grandfather" of the rotary screen))

  • Artem

This can be useful for macro photography.

  • Oleg

in my opinion a very meaningless thing.

    • Boris

And you try without it, remove the night sky above your head from a tripod! I'll see how it will hook you!

  • Ivan

Yes, the design is bulky in appearance and does not justify itself. On my Eikon D3100 there is an eye cup Tenpa 1,22x. It is slightly larger than the standard, but without angular rotation. I can’t say that it has become super better than the standard one. but definitely better, the increase is noticeable. Actual for those who use manual focus. I am satisfied with the purchase.

    • Vadim

Intended to acquire the same Tenpu. Everything as you write, but having installed the nozzle on your D5100, I could not understand why they were asking for 500 UAH. Yes, there is an improvement, but obviously not for that much money. I didn’t notice that she would significantly help with manual focus. As a result, I did not buy it and I bring it manually on the screen with an increase in the focus area. And the angular JVI is generally beyond comprehension (maybe because there is a rotatable screen? :)

The angle viewfinder is a very useful and necessary accessory in the photographer's household. Not only does it help out in cases when “normal” sighting is difficult, it allows you to see the picture with a magnification, and, therefore, to focus more precisely, for example, when taking macro photography. The fact that the angular viewfinder of this particular manufacturer “suffers from unnecessary distortion and chromatic aberrations, which sometimes“ cut ”the eye,” alas and ah. But this does not in any way detract from the merit of the angle viewfinder itself.

    • Denis

Can you give examples of when an angled viewfinder is needed? Well, the rotary display is understandable, but the viewfinder ... I see one application - to shoot directly from the asphalt without a tripod, lying down ...

      • Sergey +

Denis, you have already been answered ... Believe me, if you shoot, it turns out that it is convenient in many places.

Well, you didn’t shoot it with Rollleflex, Start or Exact with the mine. You didn’t even have Kiev-60 or the Lover. Otherwise, the question would have disappeared :) In general, this thing is needed more with film cameras than with digital ones, the film does not have a screen.

    • Yarkiya

I completely agree. For macro photography can be very useful. If there is no pivoting screen as in 5100, shoot from the ground without spreading flat on the belly.

      • Valentine

It's easy to give an example.
Studio portrait with a tripod, close-up, subject, astro ...
I have an old Olympus OM 1.2 × 2.5, the quality is excellent.
I use it rarely but sometimes it helps a lot.

        • Denis

Valentine, drew attention to your post.
I understand you are using Varimagni.
Is it compatible with digital cameras (Olympus e-510)?

Fenichka for paparazzi, from around the corner to shoot so that the object does not see the face of the photographer :)

I use on Canon 7D and quite often. The model is different - mine does not hobble or distort. With it there is no need to lie in the wet grass, lift your head up and shoot from those points when the camera is too low for comfortable work, and if you sit down, it is too high. Like this, for example: http://content.foto.mail.ru/mail/stereodom/_blogs/i-2949.jpg

    Nakosyachil, correct:

I use on Canon 7D and quite often. The model is different - mine does not hobble or distort. It is good to shoot from those points when the camera is low for comfortable standing work, and if you sit down, it is too high. If someone does not use the angle viewfinder, this does not mean that it is useless. Shoot various scenes from the ground for example. Such shooting is extremely difficult without this device. Lying on your stomach to carry out sighting, frame composition, etc. - all this is annoying. What if there is a puddle, mud, etc.? It is not rational to use contrast focusing and buy a camera with a rotating screen for this. For example, on canons from ones to seven, there is no such screen. Conclusion: a good thing, although it is not necessary to have it.

  • Exhausted

Do not rush to conclusions, gentlemen! But the accessory is not so useless, or, as mentioned above, “meaningless”.

  • Pastor

A useful accessory, but not for everyone. Many do not need it at all. Nikon 5 *** or the latest canons of type 650d or 70d solve this problem of sight. But for me it remains a mystery why in the older cameras, at least some, do not integrate a rotary screen. For example, why not release the d800 version with a rotary screen. It is sometimes very suitable for a landscape. It is not always possible to cling to the camera with your face, and you can look at the screen even with outstretched arms. On the other hand, pros can always use a separate screen in general for sighting and viewing pictures, so, apparently, in cool models we will not see a rotary screen for a long time.

And for manual glass, when vision is not very
