Personally, I don’t like the Sony Alpha 55v because of EVI, the reason for this is:

  • slowing down image output, especially when the camera automatically turns on EVI, after you bring the camera to your face. Fractions of a second EVI stays dark. This is very unnerving. Using the menu, you can make the EVI be constantly on, which eliminates the lack of braking. Using the Finder / LCD button (viewfinder / display), you can display the image either on the EVI or on the main camera display.
  • if you use the function of showing pictures after shooting, then sometimes the EVI just freezes for a few seconds. At this time, you just miss the moments during the shooting, because you do not see what you are shooting.
  • EVI remains dark for at least 1 second after turning on the camera, again you have to lose potential images.
  • when sighting in low-light conditions, the picture in the EVI slows down, as if using the slowdown effect. This is most likely due to the use of a high ISO and a long excerpts at sight. Also, all the digital noise is visible, which also makes you nervous.
  • When the eye rotates through different parts of the frame, multi-colored (red, green and blue) stripes become visible, which resemble interference in old TVs.

Shooting at 10 fps is possible only in a special mode, which is selected on the main command dial. In this mode, you cannot control all shooting parameters - in particular, you cannot set the shutter speed, and the aperture can only be controlled in the AF-S or M focusing mode. exposure. If you use focus mode AF-C, then shooting will always be carried out at the maximum available aperture value.

The camera does not show the number of frames that remained until the frame buffer was full. When I was shooting using a Transcend SDHC 32GB class 10 card, before the camera started to slow down, I could get about 17 pictures in RAW format (Sony ARW) and 30 pictures in JPEG format (aspect ratio 3: 2, L: 16M high quality).

Particularly pleasing is the large fleet of good old Minolta optics, which has very good lenses and is especially pleased with its price. This phenomenon is well known to portrait painters who worked with long-focus optics on formats. In the small format, the phenomenon also did not go anywhere. So often there is much more sense from EVI than from a closed shutter of cameras with OVI, where focusing is possible only with an open aperture, especially manual.

The battery in the A55 is small, about 500 frames, not more than the A580, in which I clicked 1780 frames. The electronic viewfinder probably consumes too. I did not notice the fact that a translucent mirror absorbs part of the light, in any case, it’s not exactly 30 percent as they say everywhere, the matrices of A55 and A580 are the same, I didn’t notice a special difference.

    SLT-55 took from Ibei for $ 300 with delivery, in a practically new appearance. The owner did not indicate the number of shutter releases, but after the purchase I found out that there are almost 4000 of them.
    Two cetaceans, 18-55 and 75-300, came with the camera. The quality of the picture from the big one was not good, but the small backlash has large designs. I bought 50-55 whales for 200 dollars, from which some portraits began to be obtained.
    Ibey took cheaply 28 / 2.8. 50 / 1.8. 35-105 / 3,5-4,5. 70-210 / 4. from the minolta. Everyone is in excellent condition, the picture is good, but they do not differ in any sharpness. There is still a thought for 300 dollars to take APO 100-400 for a photohunt.
    Whale lenses are lightweight, but only 55-200 can be reliably removed from them.

    Regarding the battery indicator, there are also complaints. Sometimes it shows a complete discharge, but you can go do a hundred frames. It reminded me of a Canon soap dish.
    I would also like to buy an eyecup, rubber, because I always use the viewfinder. But, in ibei there is only plastic for 30 (!!!) dollars, which is not necessary.
    Here many write terrified of the delay in EVI. Doesn't bother me at all, I'm fine. I set the automatic inclusion of Evi (when you look into it) because you don't want to plant a battery for him. Yes. when the camera is turned on, it sometimes turns on with a delay of a second, I don't see this as a problem. Regarding digital noise in the viewfinder at twilight ... Hmm ... funny you, in an ordinary mirror you won't see anything at all in such twilight.
    A joke that is still incomprehensible to me, in poor lighting conditions, in aperture priority mode, the camera not only shows a bright beautiful picture in the viewfinder, but also makes the pictures brighter than the reality.
    It is also important to mention that in standard settings the picture is greatly embellished in colors. Makes of old faded parquet, for example, brightly colored. But this is for fans of photoshopping. I did not like. I zaminusil in the color settings so that the color rendition was natural.

    And also the matrix stabilization was very pleased / not pleased. With hands, with a lens without a stub, you can shoot up to 1/5 of a second! Of course, this will not work on the big sums, but the stabilization work is very clearly visible.
    Minus the stabilizer in fast overheating during video shooting and the noisy operation of the stabilizer. The first limits the duration of a single roller to 5 or 7 minutes. (For example, on a soap box, I took pictures for half an hour easily). The second trouble is that the noise of the stub climbs into the built-in microphone (almost like a zoom engine). There is a microphone output. I started a guitar into it from the mixing console, shooting a video, but nothing really good happened. I don’t know about the microphones, but the overload from the remote control was palpable.
    The video was also spoiled by a strong sound compression built into the camera.
    Another minus that I knew about when buying, there is no exposure setting in the video.
    By the way, in our stores there is a SLT-58 from 18-55 it costs $ 500. But, as I understand it, it is not only more expensive, but worse.
    Therefore, I am happy as an elephant.

There is little point in 20 raw frames in a row, if then a minute is unloaded onto the card and the camera is inoperative. What can you shoot in series like that?

    They can occasionally write that it all depends on the class of the memory card. Although in my experience, not much depends on the class. Some ancient Uz, for example, or old CZK could write a series on ancient cards endlessly, until the battery sits down or the card is full. And many “modern” ones shut up after a dozen shots ...
