Review Nissin Di700

Flash Nissin Di700 is available in two versions - for Canon cameras and for Nikon cameras. This review presents a flash for the NIkon CDC.

Di700 - inexpensive Chinese external flash, able to work in automatic TTL mode.

  • The flash is large, only a little smaller in height than the original Nikon SB-910. It seems to be assembled not bad, but, as practice shows, in Chinese outbreaks after a certain time of use, certain jambs may appear. Nissin Di700 has metal foot for mounting.
  • The flash is fixed to the camera by means of a rotating clamping disk. I can’t stand this method of fastening, it is much more uncomfortable with the usual latch on native Nikon flashes. You don’t always know where to turn the disk lock; it often gets stuck in bad weather, especially in the cold, with your bare hands there is no desire at all to unscrew this disk to remove the flash from the stand or from the camera.
  • The Nissin Di700 supports high-speed sync, with the Nissin Di700 you can shoot at any shutter speed, even for 1/8000 s.
  • Flash support automatic remote control using the system Nikon CLS... The Nissin Di700 can be easily ignited with the Master Flash. The only problem is that with the Nissin Di700 you cannot select a synchronization channel. When I took test shots using any of the available groups, the flash worked on any of the channels set on the camera. This is a trifle, but nevertheless, such a disadvantage can get in the way when, for example, you shoot with another photographer in the same place.
  • The flash head rotates 180 degrees to the left and 180 degrees to the right, so the horizontal coverage angle is 360 degrees, which is very, very convenient.
  • It's nice that the flash has a zoom of 24-200m, this is a very good indicator for an inexpensive product. Attention: the flash does not have the ability to set the zoom manually, the flash either adjusts the zoom to the focal length of the lens automatically, or simply sets it to 35mm. When you take out the diffuser card, the zoom automatically becomes 24 mm.
  • The flash has a reflector card and a diffuser card.
  • The case has PC-sync and a mini-jack for synchronization with studio flashes. There is also a connector for using battery packs.
  • The flash uses 4 AA batteries to operate. They come out of the flash along with the compartment lid, as shown in the picture in the examples below.
  • The flash has an additional backlight for the autofocus system. The backlight is based on two LEDs, in pitch darkness it helps with focusing, although I personally barely notice it through the viewfinder.
  • There are very useful modes SD, SF for remote ignition of flashes based on a light trap. Of course, unlike the automatic remote mode, the power in such modes is set only manually.
  • It is stated that the guide number is 48 m, but how the Chinese define this parameter remains a mystery. Therefore, I do not recommend paying too much attention to numbers. As far as reality is concerned, the Di700 should have enough power for any task.
  • In TTL mode, exposure compensation is set in 1/2 stop increments. Usually, more advanced flashes allow you to use a step of 1/3 stop.

The flash menu is very simple and pleasant, based on LEDs. The flash has very few buttons - SET, the power button, the test pulse button and the wheel. In addition to the presence of a power correction, I still did not find how the 'A' mode differs from the 'TTL' mode, maybe someone will tell me in the comments.

My experience

I am always skeptical of non-native outbreaks. On the one hand, for a small price you can buy a very good and functional device, but on the other hand, nothing is better native outbreaks I have not met yet. In the Nissin Di700, I don’t like that the flash squeaks strongly when recharging, there is no indication of batteries, there is no possibility to set manual zoom, which is important when shooting with remote control. The battery compartment, too, is not the most convenient.

    Good afternoon.
Grandfather Frost gave me Nissin Di700 on NG, in addition to the D7000 camera. Subjectively, the outbreak is not bad. But I just can’t figure out one way how to make the camera and flash work with shutter speeds of more than 1/320. After all, the description states: high-speed synchronization mode up to 1/8000.
On the camera in the settings I put 1/320 (FP Auto). Shooting mode M. But nothing changes, one puff and a half-dark frame.
As I understand it should be a few short puffs in a row?
Tell me kind people, what am I doing wrong?

  • Koca

I used the Nissin Di622 with 600D in the cold, everything is fine, no problems. I recommend it. You are not a pro who, per day of work, makes more puffs than I do in a month

  • Vladimir

    Good afternoon.
Tell me who knows how to synchronize the high-speed mode of this flash with the Nikon d5100 camera.
    Thank you in advance.

    • Arkady Shapoval

No, d5100 does not support FP

  • Vladimir

    Thanks for the reply.
did you happen to try it on your nikon 8008?
Will it work in aperture priority and will there be overexposures?

    • Arkady Shapoval

      I have not tried it.

  • Vladimir

I will try and put a comment with the result.
    Thank you.

I want to say a few words in support of Nissin. Before that I had a Nissin 622 mark 2. When I decided to take my own or Nissin. I didn't have enough money, I stopped at Nissin. I took it off with the D90, I was more than satisfied with the result. 3 weddings (with partying), parties, birthdays, children's matinees ... In a word, I squeezed everything out of her. I never let her down, the clients are happy. Maybe I got a good copy, but if the budget is limited, it's not worth chasing relatives. Now ordered the Nissin 700 (only because of the FP support). Of course, I myself dreamed of a 910 Nikon, but I was convinced from my own experience that Nissin is not a cheap stamping, but a very real competitor in the market for less money.

tell me good people where can I buy a diffuser for flash Nissin Di700 in Kiev? Here's a plan http://www.amazon.co.uk/Maxsimafoto%C2%AE-White-Diffuser-compatible-Nissin/dp/B00EV5O43Y

    nissin di700 can nikon d7100

    • Vladimir

      One can

  • Sergei

Help with the flash. Who can. The shoe broke off. 5 colored wires stick out from the case: 1-zel, 2-yellow, 3-orange, 4-kras, 5-korich. Numbering by connector in the flash housing. Who can tell the wiring of these wires on the shoe?

    • BB

Option 1: disassemble the flash, maybe there is a marking on the board.
Option 2: Find the service manual and / or circuit diagram of the flash.
The color marking of the wires may vary from batch to batch, you can ring the tester only two wires: the central contact and the mass.

    • Ivan

Good day! Maybe you know the year you can buy this item?

  • anonym

her plastic is rather weak, one fall was enough ... it turns on only with new batteries

    • Oleg

      extension

      • Irina

Oleg, do you happen to have her scheme?

    • Oleg

but in general, it costs its money

    • Oleg

yeah, it's a lubricant. that would be easier to spin and not fasten

  • anonym

On the d80, is the nissin Di 700 suitable?

  • Alex

As my grown son says: "After reading the opinions of the Internet, you can't buy yourself anything." One hundred people and the same number of opinions. Cameras, by the way, are also assembled in China, but for some reason no one talks about this! Yes, I photograph for myself. I have Nikon D3100 and Nissin Di600. For two years of operation, the puff has never failed. I believe that everyone has the right to express their opinion. And everyone has the right to decide what to buy.

  • Julia

I have been using this flash for 2 years, everything was always superb, and on my last birthday I let it down ... In TTL mode, the pictures are underexposed. I did not change the settings. Zero exposure compensation. After taking a frame under the TTL label on the flash screen, the exposure compensation from -0.7 EV to -1.7 EV is displayed for a couple of seconds (differently in some sneakers), then disappears. I knocked down the flash settings - it didn't help. Two frames are normal, two with this correction in the minus and as a result, dark frames. Maybe someone knows what the matter is ???

    • BB

Probably the exposure bracketing on the camera is turned on.
(Maybe someone will come in handy)

  • anonym

Yeah. I read several reviews on Nissin, and write "Chinese" everywhere.
Nissin is a Japanese company and Japanese outbreaks! Where they are going is absolutely unimportant! This is just an assembly.
With such expressions you only belittle the dignity of your blog and reviews.
China is Yongnuo, Meike and so on. But not Nissin.
Be called everything by its proper name.
And like “it is written maid in china, then I immediately think of china,” then I thought such mammoths have long died out, who pays attention to the assembly.
Most Canon cameras are assembled in China; most Sony are assembled in China.
So, call them Chinese cameras too? Absolute nonsense.

  • Sergei

Nissin, unlike the Chinese, is an oem partner of nikon, as far as I know. accordingly, it does not work by reverse-engeneering, but owns all the necessary documentation. The other day I took a Nissin air1 + nissin air R radio synchronization kit for nikon. You pick it up and already feel that thing. Although 3-4 times cheaper than the similar functional phottix or pocket wizard. I can do a review if interested.

  • Sergei

Yes, one more thing. In the review, in my opinion, nothing is said that this flash contains an integrated TTL radio synchronization module. Those. buy for 5 TR Nissin Air 1 transmitter and forget about Nikon CLS.

    • Sergei

“… Using the built-in flash” forgot to say

  • Sergei

I apologize, the radio synchronizer in the 700a model
