Review Yongnuo YN568EX Speedlite

This review presents the Yongnuo YN568EX Speedlite for Nikon cameras. YN568EX - nice big external flasha. First of all, lovers will like it huge flash lead numberequal to 58m (ISO 100, at 105mm) For example, Nikon's native flagship flash SB-910 It has guide numberequal to 34m (ISO 100, 35mm). Yongnuo is cunning and measures the guide number with a flash zoom set to 105mm, which allows you to get 58m.

Here are the highlights that give the big picture of the YN568EX:

  • The YN568EX flash head rotates 360 degrees. The zoom ranges from 24 to 105mm, the same range of the head zoom for the flash Nikon SB-800. When installing diffuser cards The zoom of the Yongnuo YN568EX is 14mm. The flash can adjust the flash zoom to the focal length of the lens automatically; you can also set the flash zoom manually.
  • The flash has a large monochrome display with orange backlight. The backlight turns on when you press the corresponding button. I don’t like the color of the backlight, the green color of my native flashes is much more pleasant.
  • Flash control is simple, you can figure it out without instructions. To enter the additional menu, press the 'Mode' and 'Backlight / sound' buttons simultaneously. The internal menu is terrible, the words on the menu are made with 'clumsy' and hard to read letters.
  • YN568EX supports mode I-ttl, M mode and strobe mode (Multi). The flash has high speed sync mode F.P.
  • Flash may be remotely controlled using the system Nikon CLS... The YN568EX can be controlled remotely by any other commander flash unit. To switch to Slave (Sn) remote control mode, press and hold the 'Zoom' button. Then use the 'CH / GRP' button and the joystick to select the desired group and channel. In remote control mode, automatic I-TTL mode with FP support and S1 and S2 modes are available. How to remotely control the flashes is described in the section Nikon CLS.
  • With S1 mode You can set fire to Yongnuo YN568EX flash by the first light pulse from the master flash, the mode is similar to Nikon SU-4. In S1 and S2 modes, the power is manually set, from 1/128 to 1/1 (full). In S2 mode the flash is ignited without any problems on the second (or last) flash pulse. S1 and S2 modes cannot work in high-speed sync mode. The same modes can be found on other Yongnuo flashes: YN460YN460-II, YN565EX, YN468, etc. Attention: The light trap, which is responsible for receiving command pulses, is located on the front panel of the flash, therefore, to synchronize with the flash, you need to place the YN568EX so that it “sees” the command pulse of another flash. In remote control mode, two red LEDs on the front of the flash blink to indicate that the flash is in remote control mode and ready to fire. Also, the YN568EX in remote control mode emits sound signals about the accuracy of operation and notifies about a successful recharge after each pulse. Attention: Yongnuo YN568EX cannot be controlled by Nikon CLS other flashes (no Master mode).
  • Yongnuo YN568EX for Nikon, in remote control mode, has ETTL mode for Canon flashes. When ETTL is on, the flash does not respond to command pulses from the Nikon master flash, but the same flash can be used remotely with Canon cameras :)
  • Sound alerts on the flash can be turned off. Yongnuo YN568EX has a flash ready indicator button, when you press it, a test pulse occurs.
  • The flash has a diffuser card (wide-angle diffuser) and a reflector card. This is a nice plus. For example, Nikon's native flash SB-600 Does not have a reflector card.
  • The flash is attached to the camera using a spinning disk. To install or remove the flash from the camera, you need spend some time to twist / unscrew the locking disc.
  • In I-TTL mode, you can adjust the flash output to 5 ev in increments of 1/3 ev
  • The flash has a special auto focus lamp. The backlight works very well, in the pitch darkness my camera Nikon D80 I focused without any problems with the help of the flash backlight alone.
  • Yongnuo YN568EX is made in China, the body is made of nice matte plastic. The foot of the shoe is metal. The flash has a studio flash sync connector. The flash comes with a cloth case. The cover cannot be attached to the belt. The case has a compartment for the flash stand.

Please note that there is a new Yongnuo YN568E modelXII, the main difference from the Yongnuo YN568EX is that the new flash is still only suitable for Canon and it is now possible to control other flashes.

Version for Nikon

Version for Nikon

My experience:

Yongnuo YN568EX has all the basic functions for convenient operation in automatic modes. I like this well-designed compartment for 4 AA batteries and large flash display. I want to note that the 'native' outbreaks Nikon SB-700, SB-900, SB-910 have much more functionality than Yongnuo YN568EX. Typically, amateur photographers only peer into the flash power and the presence of an automatic TTL mode, while professionals know that a flash can have a lot of useful functions that are not obvious at first glance. Yongnuo YN568EX lacks these subtleties that are inherent in models SB-900, SB-910. I strongly believe that for serious work the photographer is most suitable Native flash Nikon.

The cheapest is to buy Yongnuo flashes at aliexpress.

Conclusions:

The Yongnuo YN568EX is a good inexpensive flash.

Greetings! If we compare the SB-700 and YN-568, but only the power, according to the statements, it turns out that the 568th is twice as powerful. But how is it really? Can anyone tell me their impressions? Twice more powerful, or not?

    • Dmitriy

No, not 2 times. Here the manufacturer is disingenuous with the measurement method. Although the exposure compensation of the YN-568 is -5 EV + 5 EV, and the SB-700 is only 3. In general, the flash is about 1/3 - 1/4 more powerful. YN-568 can also be bought for 5000 rubles from aliexpress or from hands. And the red cross-shaped illumination of the YN-568 is more powerful in the dark, there is no problem to focus. For an amateur, the functionality of the SB-700 will not be redundant anyway, but you will be able to photograph a large company somewhere on a dark bank “head-on” without a high-aperture YN-568 lens. Then again there is Nikon CLS, high-speed sync for daytime shooting, and nothing else is needed for the amateur.

I support. Norm flash. It helps me a lot and professional activity. Sometimes I use it as the main one. And no problem

  • Natalia

Tell me. This flash is suitable for the Nikon D3300 camera

    • R'RёS,R ° F "RёR№

      Yes

  • Marina

Tell me, pzhl, how can I set this flash to the rear-curtain sync mode for my Nikon D 3300? I can’t do according to the instructions.

  • Vladimir

Nikon d3200 camera, does it make sense to buy a flash from China Triopo TR-586EX. And will TTL work?

    • R'RёS,R ° F "RёR№

And why not the one that is described in this thread? She will be better. The price is not just cheaper.

  • Vladimir

Yes, it seems cheaper and the functionality is the same

  • Peter Sh.

I want to notice a really high-quality assembly of Yongnuo flashes.
My YN560-III fell two times on the floor from 2 meters, and nothing.
Maybe there's nothing there? I do not know.

  • anonym

Good day to all. I bought this flash, chose for a long time, since the first flash. I chose in the store between it and Sat-700, clicked both for more than an hour. In my subjective opinion, this one is more powerful than the native 700. TTL, like all the stated modes, work flawlessly, as in the 700-Ke. Now that I don't like it. The menu, although simple, is worse than in the native one. A twist, not a latch. And one more remark that no one says - zoom, in the native sb-700 there is any value that the camera transmits from the lens, and 35 and 36 and 37mm ... ... and so on. The Chinese shows only fixes 24,35,50,70 ... he does not see intermediate values of puff, perhaps this should affect the exp, but again during the head-on test with my own I did not notice this, even from the histogram. Now the question to those who have been using this flash for a long time, they turned on the af backlight in the menu, but it does not shine, the backlight is also on in the camera, I focus on the central point, what else can you look at?

    • Denis

and even through the ceiling does TTL work?

    • Denis

for the backlight to work, the AF-S focus mode must also be

  • anonym

TTL works in the ceiling, but not perfect, you need to adjust the exposure from the camera or the flash power from the camera or the power on the flash itself. If you adjust the exposure compensation on the camera, the exposure of the whole scene in the frame changes, which is logical, but if you adjust the power of the “puff” on the camera or on the flash itself, this affects the exposure at the point at which the measurement is made, if it is spot either centro-weighted. If the matrix, then the result will be similar to the exposure compensation on the camera.
If you answer the question of the correct operation of TTL from the ceiling, the native Sat-700 does not show the result 100%, I would even say it shows the same result, I repeat, I compared two obsolyutnoi new outbreaks "in the forehead" in the store, I even have a girl— the seller made comments that this is a store, not a photo studio)))
As for the backlight, you are right, the backlight does not work in af-c mode, and even more; with built-in flash, the backlight only works at the center focus point. The Chinese backlight works fine with af-a, af-s modes, and at any point, and not only in Central.

    • Valentine

Yes, that's right. If the flash is at the ceiling, and the matrix is measured on the camera, the probability of an underexposed picture is high. Either make a flash correction, or choose spot metering.

  • anonym

how to turn off the sound?

  • Semen

Good afternoon Arkady. Thank you very much for the site. Very, very helpful and entertaining. Could you tell something about the Yongnuo YN568EX 111 Speedlite in terms of use with the Nikon D5200

  • Denis

And which is better to take the flash meike mk 910 or youngnuo YN568?

  • Igor

Hello! I bought a flash on Ali YN568EX III Speedlite. The labels on the buttons are slightly different on it, but the control, as I understand it, should be exactly the same. The Zoom button, when pressed briefly, does not change the value of the focal length, but this value starts flashing. And you can change it only by pressing the joystick. When you press the Gr / CH button, there are no changes on the screen, and the FP mode should be turned on for it. Please tell me, does this mean the flash is malfunctioning or is the 3rd version of this flash controlled differently and am I doing something wrong?

  • Serg

Managed a little differently. Download the instructions from the Internet.

  • Serg

Yongnuo YN568EX for Nikon, in remote control mode, has ETTL mode for Canon flashes

    A unique thing!

  • Andrei

Hello, can any of the readers use the Yongnuo YN685 for Nikon I would like to know the impressions. I like the mounting mechanism more than on the model in the review. I’m thinking of buying, but have not yet decided on this and look closely. And I am very grateful to the authors of the reviews, you can always find useful and interesting information.

  • Sergei

Arkady good afternoon, is there any prospect of YN-685 flash reviews?

  • Andrey Tekunov

I want to add that, the IGBT transistor flies in them from the frequent use of the strobe mode. When replaced with 4301, everything starts to work reliably. Initially, it costs TIG056, of dubious quality. It won for 10-15 series. And in general, claims about the quality of the filling and its assembly and soldering no complaints. Everything is no worse than in their native puffs.

  • anonym

Regarding ttl from the ceiling, it works fine, and on a simple d40, I twist my head in love with the side and change the shutter speed and aperture, you work out almost always accurately. And now the nuances, for ttl to work accurately, you need to set the value for focusing AF-S, if you still use AF-C, then you need to set the AE-L, AE-F button to lock the exposure, and hold it down before shooting, then flash It will work correctly ttl from the ceiling, and indeed. If this is not done, then in af-c mode the camera will continuously try to focus and measure exposure, which in turn will lead to large misses of the flash in ttl mode, well, as you noticed earlier, spot exposure metering

  • Sergei

    Good afternoon.
Tell me if such a flash will work normally on an analog NIKON camera, or crookedly and obliquely and partially &

  • Paul

Rare rubbish !!! I do not advise even to take it in hand! Fails at any moment! Dies simply !! Constant overexposure of the foregrounds and the oversight of the distant !! For professional orders, NOT SUITABLE !!!

    • US6IBD

I do not agree with this. I use version II 3-4 years. At first, my daughter bought Triopo TR-982II with the same functionality. Enough for three shoots. At first it worked after 2 for the 3rd time, then she died completely. I had to buy a Yongnuo 568EX III. It has been working for 2 years without a single failure.
      This is for reliability.
Overexposure of close shots and lack of illumination of distant ones is a feature of any flash when shooting at close range, especially if you use matrix exposure metering. The camera tries to average the exposure for the far and foregrounds and it turns out “not ours, not yours” - overexposure with insufficient light. When using spot metering, you will get the correct exposure at least for the foreground you are focusing on (I hope you are shooting not in auto mode, but in aperture priority A with a choice of focus point)
The thing is, the illumination intensity of the object decreases in proportion to the square of the increase in the distance between the object and the source. If the distance between the foreground and the back is 2 meters, then shooting from a distance of 2 meters to the foreground you have a difference of 2 times and 4 times the illumination. But if you move 4 meters, the distance between the foreground and background is already 1,5 times and the illumination changes by 2,25.
Indoors, due to lack of space, 28mm or 35mm lenses are shot at fairly close distances and as a result have a significant difference in distance to objects. To equalize the illumination of the foreground and background, you can apply a flash “to the ceiling” with power loss compensation.

      • BB

Last year I bought the 968th. ”On the forehead,” the exposure works fine, on the ceiling / reflector - 2-3 stops shortage, there are no firmware updates. Nikon and Nissin have no such problems

  • Andrii

Good evening. Tell me what add-on to buy for kenon 6d m2? They say that not everyone works fine with the kenon 6d m2 !?

  • Ekaterina Ovcharenko

Hello, I bought a yongnuo n568ex III flash, tell me which synchronizer model is better to buy for it?

  • US6IBD

In principle, the “older” cameras have a Nikon CLS function - control from the built-in flash. The disadvantage of this option is the small control distance. Especially on the street.
The YN-568 requires a transmitter / receiver sync kit (if there is no transmitter in the camera). It provides absolutely all flash control modes, as if it were standing directly on the camera. A number of simple synchronizers provide only ignition and for them the flash will have to be used only in manual mode with manual selection of the required power.
Buy YN-622N-TX / YN-622N kit from this review.

    • Ekaterina Ovcharenko

      Thanks 🙏

    • Anton

Tell me, will this synchronizer (transmitter) work with the YN568EX III if the transmitter is under the Nikon shoe and pykha under the Canon? Thank you.

  • Steve

After a short time of operation, it starts to work only at full power - the transistor burns out. There are 460, 560, 560 2 I have already changed the burned out lamps, but the flashes are working. This is a factory marriage.

    • Aleksey68

this is not a defect, but a design flaw - due to the simplified control circuit of the IGBT at a high switching frequency, the driver cannot supply the full voltage to the gate with steep edges, as a result, the IGBT opens slowly, is in a linear mode for a relatively long time, overheats and thermal breakdown occurs. in native outbreaks, this effect also takes place. my flashes, dear ones, I reworked. but it's not easy for a non-engineer.
