Review Tair-11 2,8 / 133 (white)

Review Tair-11 2,8 / 133 (white, also called gray and metal)

This is a small overview, as there is already a detailed overview on Radozhiv review Tair-11A 2.8 / 135.

Main differences Tair-11 2,8 / 133 from this review and the new Tair-11A 2.8 / 135:

  1. Different name. The letter 'A' in the lens name indicates the ability to use interchangeable shanks.
  2. The white version has a M39 mounting thread and is designed for SLR cameras with a working length of 45,2 mm.
  3. Lenses have a completely different body design. The black version skipped F / 8 on the depth of field scale. And white has no infrared shift mark. Black has a wider and more comfortable focus ring. White has a wider aperture setting ring.
  4. The black version has a retractable built-in hood.
  5. Different diameters for light filters. White has 49mm, black has 55mm.
  6. Different weight.
  7. Different minimum focusing distance. Black MDF is 1.2 meters, white - 1.5 meters
  8. Different resolution. According to the characteristics of black, the sharpness should be better.

Type of enlightenment of the Tair-11 2,8 133 lens and aperture

Both lenses have a 20-blade aperture, and the focus ring in both rotates 360 degrees. There are also aperture setting rings and presets.

I don’t know why, but it was more convenient for me to focus with the white version of the lens than with the black. I used two black lens options and one white. White Tair-11 was sharper than its black counterparts.

How to use with modern cameras?

Lenses with an M39 mounting thread (for SLR cameras, M39 X 1 / 45.2), such as the lens from this review, are very easy to use on almost any modern digital camera (both SLR and mirrorless), for this you just need to choose correct adapter. The cheapest adapters can be found aliexpress.com

For use on modern digital SLR cameras Canon EOS need M39-Canon EOS adapter, you can buy such an adapter (adapter) here. Also, an adapter M39-Canon EOS can be easily replaced with two adapters: M42-Canon EOS + M39-M42. Detailed information on the use of such lenses with any Canon EOS cameras will find here.

An adapter is required for use on Nikon SLR cameras M39-Nikon F, you can buy such an adapter (adapter) without a lens and a chip here. Also, one adapter M39-Nikon F can be easily replaced with two adapters: M42-Nikon F + M39-M42. Detailed information on the use of such lenses with any modern Nikon cameras will find here.

How to use this lens with cameras of other systems (Pentax, Sony, Fujifilm, Olympus, Panasonic, Samsung, Sigma etc.) - ask in the comments and you will be prompted. If you have any questions on compatibility and adapters, ask in the comments (comments do not require any registration at all, any user can add a comment).

Conclusions:

The old 'white' Tair-11 2,8 / 133 turned out to be no worse than its own 'black' brother. A great Soviet portrait lens. I recommend.

Hi there. I'm wondering if this lens with an MFT (micro four thirds) adapter can focus to infinity. Does anyone here know?

  • Boris

I compared the “white” Tair-11 with the “black” Tair-11A, albeit on a crop. Both lenses are in perfect condition. Black showed itself to be at least as good as white, if not better (particularly in terms of resolution in the center of the frame). There are differences in the design of the case, I liked the black one better. It’s somehow nice and comfortable to hold in your hands! Although, both options are excellent! These are definitely masterpieces of domestic optics!

I have one adapted for Nikon. But it doesn’t reach infinity. But MDF is about a meter. I don’t even know whether to leave it this way or whether infinity is more important. The lens is clearly not about the landscape.
