For the opportunity to review Vivitar Series 1 70-210mm 1: 3.5 Macro Focusing Auto Zoom VMC N / AI many thanks to Klochnik Roman, who sent me him from another area.
The “Series 1” is considered by the Vivitar to be a top class lens series. The Vivitar 70-210mm f / 3.5 in my review is indeed a very good lens. My Vivitar 70-210mm f / 3.5 has a Nikon F mount and has an N / AI lettering on the lens barrel, which most likely means 'Non-AI', but in fact, my copy is AI-compatible. How to use such old lenses without autofocus is described in the section on AI-S. I used Vivitar 70-210mm F / 3.5 with my camera without any problems Nikon D700 and film Nikon AF N8008s. With a film camera, the lens gives accurate confirmation when focusing successfully, with a green dot in JVI.
Of course, the Vivitar 70-210mm F / 3.5 is 'made in Japan', the assembly of the lens at the highest level is a large kilogram piece of metal and glass. The lens uses 67 mm filters. Vivitar 70-210mm F / 3.5 has a pump-action design (to zoom you need to pull or push the zoom ring), and this is a single-ring lens. The lens has one large rubberized ring, which is designed to change the focal length of the lens and to focus. I really like single-ring lenses.
When focusing, the front lens of the objective both rotates and travels back and forth. But the rear lens remains stationary both when focusing and when zooming - this is very good news for people who are worried about the cleanliness of the matrix of their camera. Focus ring rotates 180 degrees. The focusing is smooth. The MDF, in normal lens operation, is 2 meters.
The lens has macro shooting mode... To enable this mode, set the focal length to 210mm and press the white button on one of the lens 'ears', then turn the ears to the left until it stops. Despite the fact that there is even a separate switch for macro, with the Vivitar 70-210mm f / 3.5 I was unable to achieve the declared magnification of 1: 2.2, so the Macro inscription in the lens name costs more 'for show'.
The Vivitar 70-210mm f / 3.5 has a pronounced VMC coating. Aperture only accepts intermediate values from F / 3.5-F / 22.0. The number of aperture blades is 6 pieces. The Vivitar 70-210mm f / 3.5 is a constant f / 3.5 zoom lens, which is only 2/3 stops smaller than f / 2.8. I even thought about replacing my Jupiter-37A 135mm F / 3.5 with this Vivitar, but I changed my mind, since Jupiter is much lighter :). This lens can even be an alternative to the 70-200 / 2.8, especially for video shooting.
Sample Photos
Everything is filmed on Nikon D700. Photos without processing, only reduced to 3 MP and imprinted data from EXIF. Vivitar 70-210mm F / 3.5 creates sharp and contrasting photos. The lens has an interesting bokeh. The vignetting of the lens is minimal. In general, this lens showed very good results.

Conclusions
Vivitar Series 1 70-210mm 1: 3.5 Macro Focusing Auto Zoom VMC is an excellent telezoom with constant aperture F / 3.5 and good image quality. The only pity is the macro mode is 'not real' and there is no internal focusing, otherwise this Vivitar is very good.
On Radozhiv there was another review of such a lens MC Vivitar 70-210mm 1: 4.5 Macro Focusing Zoom.

Hello, is it possible at the end of the reviews, in the conclusions, to indicate the average prices for the lens?
Maybe. But, for example, this old man can only be found at flea markets, and there prices jump very much 'from and to'.
And even better if you write the price and evaluate for yourself whether it is worth the money or not.
Arkady, have you already started testing on films too ???) .... Well, I'm right at your feet !!!)))
Yes, but I didn’t wait for development, I re-reviewed the review on the D700.
Arkadiy, it doesn’t matter to you if you couldn’t take photos if you couldn’t get a look at them looking around for a picture? I think that everyone will marvel at (:
Yes, of course I’ll add.
just thinking about buying 8008, it is very interesting to know your opinion about it)
On ebay, such a copy can be found for an amazing price - from 40 to 90 USD, depending on the condition and type of attachment.
Ahh .. under Olympus, even for the top ten offer. Under Nikon, of course, many times more expensive ((
Slando has the same prices.
I really liked this lens and I think about its acquisition, for which thanks a lot to Arkady :-)
Arkady, did you compare this miracle with Yu37, is it really like sharpness in the center like in Jupiter and somewhere in the middle of the area from the center of the frame does not depend on the aperture (only the depth of field changes)? I had something similar only under the Tamron SP brand name, got rid of it and was glad.
I do not quite understand what you had in mind. But if we are talking about sharpness in karyas, then everything is fine with her at the minimum zoom. At maximum zoom, sharpness is only in the center and drops dramatically to the edges. Covering the diaphragm helps. If this is critical, check out Vivitar 75-205 3.8. He has excellent sharpness at all focal points. But there are not some goodies that the subject has. A detailed comparison is here: http://badevlad.livejournal.com/58453.html.
Koshak handsome turned out :)
Quote: “The Vivitar 70-210mm f / 3.5 is a constant f / 3.5 zoom lens”
------------------------
Another "discovery" from Radozhiva. I just have to clarify that a constant aperture of F / 3.5 is when the aperture does not close less than F / 3.5 (that is, you cannot put, for example, F / 5.6, F / 8, etc.). And the Vivitar 70-210mm has CONSTANT MAXIMUM RATIO F / 3.5 - that is, the aperture F / 3.5 can be set at any focal length (which does not exclude the possibility of closing it to a larger value, for example, F / 5.6, F / 8, etc. .).
Quote: It's a pity there is no internal focus
----------------
Patstalom! About the PUMP telephoto the author of the “review” writes - it's a pity, there is no internal focusing!
Quote: "This lens may even be an alternative to the 70-200 / 2.8, especially for video shooting."
----------------
Hehe. For video shooting, it’s cool to use lenses in which the aperture ring rotates smoothly, without stopping, to ensure a smooth change in the depth of field, and this Vivitara changes it with stops. So again an inaccuracy!
Quote: “Everything is shot with Nikon D700. Photo without processing, only the size is reduced to 3 MP and the data from EXIF is imprinted ”
-------------------
Yeah, and in the camera settings sharpened, contrast and color. Is this kagbe already not considered? :-) That photo in all reviews is the same.
Thanks for the addition.
Fixed.
This is not an inaccuracy. The lens can really be an alternative, but how much this alternative can be similar to the original 70-200 / 2,8 is a completely different matter.
Due to the fact that the examples are performed on a digital camera, the original image always undergoes post-processing in the camera. Everything is really shot in NL mode (all parameters except sharpness are at 0), RAW manifested in ViewNX 2, where D-lighting HS was only added.
"Another" discovery "from Radozhiva."
Be smart elsewhere. The phrase “constant aperture ratio” with might and main is used in this meaning, regardless of your opinion.
Because a really constant aperture, except that mirrored / projector lenses may have other rare exotics.
In my opinion, for lenses where the diaphragm does not close (for example, mirror lenses), the term is used not “fixed, but“ fixed ”aperture.
Aperture is a device that allows you to adjust the relative aperture. Therefore, for mirror lenses, for example, the aperture is not “constant”, but “absent”. The subject has “constant maximum aperture”, often this term is abbreviated to “constant aperture”. There is nothing terrible in this, just professional jargon.
“Patstalom! The author of the “review” writes about the PUMP telephoto - it's a pity, there is no internal focusing! ”
It seems to me respected this grief from the mind. Here's an example of a pump lens with internal focus: Canon EF 100-400 f / 4.5-5.6L IS USM. I wish you a pleasant stay under the table. Regarding other remarks, you can also find fault with the post, only those who read obviously understand what it is about.

You hamster, hamster! I compared the expensive semi-pro zoom for 52 rubles. and cheap Vivitar. If my grief is from the mind, then you - from the lack of mind. Nobody for fucking Vivitar was going to do internal focus.
Dear, do not translate the topic, you made the emphasis on the fact that he even singled out a pump-action capsule (obviously, for significance). And now you’re trying to get the price and who’s the hamster?
And by the way, if the "L" series at the canon is "semi-professional", would you please name the professional series?
Detective cattle.
Dear Boris (or whatever your name is) on this site it is customary to respect the interlocutor. Please “go” elsewhere
Hello. Question to the owner of this lens and to everyone else who knows: how much does such an lens cost now?
Slando tells us that this model costs 500 UAH for a Canon Canon mount, similar lenses (70-150) of a series 1 from a vivitra for another bayonet cost 1300-1500 UAH. This is of course if you are in Ukraine.
ATP
Arkady, and when focusing on infinity, does this instance fly over infinity?
My flies.
N / Ai - most likely it is necessary to translate not Non Ai, but Nikon Ai, many times I saw this designation on the mount of non-native lenses and all were Ai compatible, therefore I made this conclusion.
I would like to see pictures from the film.
We wait)
“The Vivitar 70-210mm f / 3.5 gives a very fast zoom in macro photography, so the Macro inscription in the lens name is worth more 'for show'.”
Macro scale: 1: 2.2 - I don't think this is a small magnification for a telephoto zoom lens.
As I did not try, but I did not succeed in squeezing 1: 2.2. From where such a figure comes from I do not know.
It’s strange. I checked, gives about 1: 2 on crop. In general, I really liked the macro mode. At maximum magnification, the distance to the object is approximately 10 cm. True, the focal plane is very convex.
Recently I acquired such an excellent 1: 2 macro lens as it should be, but I also did not understand at first what the joke was ... it turns out it is only in the 70mm position and in general in the macro mode the zoom acts as a focus from 10cm to 2 meters, this is convenient if you get used to it, you can feel free to shoot indoors!
good article here http://www.robertstech.com/vivitar.htm (can translate through google if necessary)
From it it is clear that there is “version 3” from Komine, those that are f / 2.8-4.0 and with 62 threads for filters with a number starting with 28 .. which are ~ 2 TIMES sharper and more contrasting at the long end (in contrast to those in the review and I have 22 serials)
Arkady, I would be glad (and not only me) to an objective comparison of these versions, if possible.
I really liked the bokeh of the lens. It is especially expressed in 1, 2 and 9 pictures. Previously, I underestimated Vivitara, but already the second review shows that they are not bad.
Most likely not the Vivitars themselves, but the manufacturers for them (Namely Kiron, Komine and Tokina). There is no difference between Kiron (Komine, Tokina etc) and the corresponding Vivitar. It can expand your choice :)
There is a difference, read the forum dedicated to the Vivitars of various kinds: http://photoclub.od.ua/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=177
Thanks for the review, I just caught one at the auction.
By the way, it is interesting that there are at least five versions of this lens (including 70-210 / 2.8-4). You did not deal with 2.8-4, are they about the same quality?
I will sell such for Pentax

VIVITAR SERIES 1 70-210MM 1: 3.5 CANON FD on Nikon can become?
no, the length of the working segment is too small, no adapters for nikon will save
Sigma UC ZOOM MC 28-70mm f3.5-4.5 for Nikon
what say about him Sigma UC ZOOM MC 28-70mm f3.5-4.5 for Nikon
what are the impressions of this vivitara compared to nikon 70-210 f4 ???
Good afternoon! I would like to ask whether this lens will become a Canon 1100d and if that makes sense?
Is it suitable for canon 1100D?
Gave the link above, let it be a separate message and a quote about the dependence of the first digits of serial numbers on vivitara manufacturers:

Actually, in the review, I did not see the mention of Canon anywhere, or in this case not the current option?
Explain please, I found on sale with an adapter and forwarding 100 green rubles, an awl in one place already interferes with life, but there are concerns. For me, this is a real chance to get 70-200 for adequate money, but a manual focus, so you have to sharpen your hands :)
In general, I hope to hear the expert opinion :)
Please tell me there is the same lens, but VMC is not written on the front lens. Is it the same lens or this one without VMC enlightenment?
4 versions of this lens
