Overview of Domiplan 2.8 / 50 automatic lens

The Domiplan 2.8 / 50 automatic lens is a 'weak' fifty with a simple Triplet optical design and an M42 mounting thread. The lens does not have a huge or even decent aperture ratio (as for a prime lens), or any particularly high-quality image. If anyone knows if there are any significant differences between this lens and the Meyer-Optik Görlitz Domiplan 2.8 / 50, please unsubscribe in the comments.

Focusing on the lens is smooth, the focus ring is thin and uncomfortable, when focusing, I touch the aperture control ring. The minimum focusing distance is as much as 75cm, which is much more than the more common MDF for fifty dollars. Usually MDF for fifty dollars is 50cm. The focus ring rotates 180 degrees, while the front lens does not spin, and the trunk of the lens lengthens slightly.

The lens has an automatic blinking iris device without a switch to manual iris control. For use on the central locking cylinder, the diaphragm pusher must be locked. Aperture blades total 6 pieces. The diameter of the front filter is 49mm, the lens itself is small, it seems to be assembled rather well, but in the hands it does not cause much confidence.

Everything is filmed on Canon 350D on the open diaphragm. At F / 2.8, the lens is very soft due to spherical aberrations. Bokeh specific, for an amateur.

How to use with modern cameras?

Lenses with mounting thread M42 (M42 X 1 / 45.5), such as the lens from this review, are very easy to use on almost any modern digital camera (both SLR and mirrorless), for this it is enough to choose the right adapter (adapter). You do not need to carry out any additional steps to modify the lens.

The cheapest adapters can be found at Aliexpress.com... There are adapters (adapters) with a chip that provide more convenience during shooting, usually chips are used to confirm focus and / or metering exposure, and form the correct EXIF. The chip does not affect the image quality in any way.

For some SLR cameras (for example, with the Nikon F-mount), you need to use adapters with a corrective lens, which allows you to focus correctly at all focusing distances. For any mirrorless cameras, such a lens is not needed, and the adapter is a simple decorated hollow metal tube with an appropriate mount.

For SLR cameras

  1. Canon: For cameras Canon EOS with bayonet mount EF / EF-S need an M42-Canon EOS adapter, such an adapter with a chip can be found herewithout chip here.
  2. NIKON: For cameras Nikon DX / FXas well as for cameras Fujifilm и Kodak with a Nikon F mount, you need an M42-Nikon F adapter, you can buy such an adapter without a lens and a chip here, with a lens without a chip herewith chip without lens here, with lens and chip here. Why a lens? Why chip?
  3. PENTAX: For Pentax cameras with K mount, you need an M42-Pentax K adapter, you can buy such an adapter here.
  4. SONY/MINOLTA: For cameras with a Sony / Minolta A mount, you need the M42-Sony A adapter, you can find such an adapter without a chip at this linkwith a chip at this link.
  5. OLYMPUS/PANASONIC/LEICA: For cameras with a 4/3 bayonet mount (not to be confused with Micro 4/3!) You need an M42-4 / 3 adapter, you can buy such an adapter here.

For mirrorless cameras

  1. SONY: For cameras with 'E'/'FE' mount series SonyNEX и Sony Alpha you need an adapter M42-Sony E (aka M42-Sony Nex), you can find it at this link. An autofocus adapter is also available for these cameras. Techart PRO Leica M - Sony E Autofocus Adapterwhich can be found at this link.
  2. OLYMPUS / PANASONIC / KODAK / XIAOMI: For cameras with a bayonet mount Micro 4/3 (Micro 4:3) you need an adapter M42-Micro 4/3, you can find it at this link.
  3. CANON M: For cameras with Canon EF-M mount need adapter M42-Canon M, it can be found at this link.
  4. CANON R and RF-S: For cameras with Canon RF mount need adapter M42-Canon R, it can be found at this link.
  5. Nikon 1: For cameras Nikon 1 Series need adapter M42-Nikon 1, you can find it at this link.
  6. Nikon Z: For cameras Nikon Z series (FX/DX) need an adapter M42-Nikon Z, it can be found at this link.
  7. FUJIFILM X: For cameras with mount X need an M42-Fuji X adapter, you can find it at this link.
  8. FUJIFILM GFX: For medium format cameras G-mount need M42-Fuji GFX adapter, you can find it at this link.
  9. SAMSUNG: For cameras with NX mount, you need an M42-Samsung NX adapter, you can find it at this link. There are no adapters for the NX mini camera yet.
  10. PENTAX: For Q-mount cameras, you need an M42-Pentax Q adapter, you can find it at this link.
  11. SIGMA / PANASONIC / LEICA: For cameras with L mount you need an M42-Leica L adapter, you can find it at this link.
  12. LEICA: For cameras with a bayonet mount Leica M need adapter M42-L / M, you can find it at this link.

Comments: 41, on the topic: Overview of Domiplan 2.8 / 50 automatic lens

  • Dmitry Yakimov

but his boke is quite pleasant, however.

  • Denis

He has some kind of bokeh, sharp, cutting eyes ...

    • Sergei

I would say even "dirty bokeh"

  • Vadim

Exactly, a nervous, twisted bokeh :)

  • Peter

Bokeh is similar to Nikkor 18-105)))

  • Vasily

And I liked the bokeh, quite unusual and interesting!)

  • Valentin Kalenichenko

“… Are there any significant differences between this lens and the Meyer-Optik Görlitz Domiplan 2.8 / 50…” - And this is it: in earlier editions the name contained the name of the manufacturer. As for the image quality: a triplet is a triplet even in Africa!

  • a lion

Arkady, you are in shock, so many reviews lately.

    • Arkady Shapoval

      As usual, no more.

  • Igor

I always respect the author, but why show all the crap ... And then also discuss.

    • Sergei

someone's house may be lying around like this, but moving away from the usual lenses is quite useful ... Some amateur photographers, in general, may not have fifty dollars, and this "crap", as you put it, can please and give direction on the correct course of development after the whale ... IMHO ...

    • Arkady Shapoval

If you respect me, then do not write nonsense in the comments.

    • Alexander

Arkady, do not listen, you are making a great and useful robot. I look at your reviews when I want to buy something, so reviews even for not very good lenses are useful. But with foreign optics, no one will advise at all, the seller will write “rare”, “unique”, and will not lie, but will not write that the picture is not any.

  • Razor

And I also liked the bokeh.

  • Gregory

    Great review, thanks.

  • Roman

If there are people who like bokeh, then it is written not in vain

  • Sergey

I myself tried a very interesting lens, but not on my equipment, unfortunately the adapter was only for Canon, and I have Nikon D7000 and D600 Although I had a Canon 450, but I liked the photo, I certainly didn’t work with it at the wedding, but why not ?! !!

  • Alex

Inexpensive and interesting glass, under which you need to choose your “artistic” subject. Transforms point light sources into “air bubbles”, soft, portrait soft. Perfect for portraits, especially in antique black and white, will give interesting effects in landscapes and decorative shots. But you need to understand it. Certainly not a generalist. For its own purposes, it is used only at an open aperture.

  • AlekK

At its core, Domiplan, cheapened to the point of disgrace, both in design and in materials, is the version of Hugo Meyer Trioplan 50 / 2.9. It was produced in the sixties as the cheapest "kitty" for various systems. Some specimens give a peculiar triangular side when covered. The build quality is below the baseboard and now you can hardly find a decent specimen.

  • flat

cool bokeh, for an amateur. I will definitely buy it.

  • Andrei

Thanks for the review and the “talking” photos. It can be seen that the lens is for those who take photos “with soul” and have even hands. I'll buy myself one.

  • Dmitriy

And I really liked this lens !!! You shouldn’t scold him like that, but he’s soft, this is his plus! Portraits turn out bright, luminous! very good mental lens!

  • Dim

I have a Meyer-Optik Domiplan, similar in appearance.
Personally, I really like it while I use the lens adapter on the D40. I change it periodically with Helios-44M. I like Domiplan more - the drawing is much more interesting: on the open, if not quite in focus, an interesting internal glow of objects appears, closing the aperture we get a very sharp photo. Bokeh is unusual, you have to be able to use it. For me, it converts pretty boring pictures very nicely.
The Meyer-Optik Trioplan 100 has a similar bokeh and prices are constantly increasing because of the bokeh. And I would not say that it is cheap, if only completely killed or at the very beginning of the auction ...

  • Volodka

Recently bought a Meyer-Optik Domiplan “zebra”. a little rattling construct (although outwardly there are no traces of use), but the picture is quite sharp, there are small spherical aberrations. I liked working with a lens in compositions with contrasting sources of out of focus glare. for ideas it is very good and unusual, interesting to sometimes "cling", the rest of the time all the same 81n))

  • Serge36ru

I wanted to buy myself such a current called Pentaflex-Color 50 / 2.8 M42. Even after the review I got sick))

  • Simon

And the lens is artistic and not like 18-105 (I had 18-105 for 3 years) I will say this to a fan of big holes ... you still have to pinch the hole if you are the owner of 1,2 or 2
it will turn out something like that here is 2,8, only the money is different ... And I was intrigued by this cheap piece of glass ...

  • Simon

Forgot to add: Its bokeh is similar to Fujinon 50 ... Almost one to one ...

  • Sergei

I recently purchased a Domiplan Meyer Optik, with an Exakta mount. I completely disagree with the fact that Domiplane is a “soap” lens (although, perhaps, Domiplane is not the same). When comparing the photos, Domiplan showed better sharpness at open aperture than Trioplan 50 / 1,9, even taking into account the lower aperture and, as a consequence, the greater depth of field. As one good friend said, there are plastic parts in the Domiplan design, which, when worn, can give backlash. Plus, maybe the rear lens alignment is broken if someone got to the three screws that adjust the position of this lens. Oil from the aperture blades can also get onto the lens, which also does not improve the picture. Another thing is that not everyone likes triplet bokeh. Many people do not find the “bubbling” noteworthy. Domiplan is clearly "bubbling" more intensely than the Trioplan fifty kopecks. In this instance of Domiplane, the aperture jumper is controlled by a special lever. You must press the lever before releasing the shutter to cover the aperture to the set value. The lever has a tapered thread for a photocable-old domestic is quite suitable))).

Excellent completion and asks for the main page of the description of the object. Everything is correct and everything is on the case. From myself - this is not a mechanical poltos from Nikon 60-70-80. ALL pre-planes need high-quality alignment and dances with tambourines on the diaphragm entrainment and rear lens alignment. Unclear gemorno but worth it. Having adjusted everything as it should, we get an interesting optical instrument. The current does not need to be compared in sharpness with 1.4 1.8 and absolutely ridiculous with 1.2. He is generally about something else, regardless of the exposed diaphragms, etc. Well done Sergey!

"If anyone knows if there are any significant differences between this lens and the Meyer-Optik Görlitz Domiplan 2.8 / 50, please unsubscribe in the comments."
What's the catch? A review about the same lens, no? Or is there a difference between Domiplan 2.8 / 50 and Meyer-Optik Görlitz Domiplan 2.8 / 50? Isn't it the same thing?

    • Rodion

There are various modifications, sometimes with significant differences in design and so on. Or - not having. About that and speech.

      • York

I saw several different ones. The picture is the same, the assembly is also the same in the sense that junk is junk. Disgusting centering of the rear lens, disgusting fit of all the giblets ... If not for a boke, this creation's place is in the trash can ...

  • TSerg (Sergiy)

What would you like to pachiti normal bokeh Domіplan - axis https://photographers.ua/photo/pidsnizhniki-744294/ You butt.
I still want to see it, to know who is normal is problematic. It is important through those that the rear lens is not centered, but rather with a beaten centering. The new one has three small guintics centering the rear lens. Bagatom "znavtsyam" kort їkh twist. Yak tilki twisted - about ”єktivu zvizdets. Win re-balancing at triplet balances. Nalashtuvati back - it is a hassle and a need for pristіy, which is called a collimator. It is possible without a help from a mobile phone driver: turn to the front line at the front line, twist the guntics to center the rear line, as long as the picture of the driver on the mobile phone is not displayed on the screen. ... When bazhanna and sufficient patience go. True, the triplet's sharpness, like є Domiplan, is deprived of the triplet.
