Overview of Domiplan 2.8 / 50 automatic lens

The Domiplan 2.8 / 50 automatic lens is a 'weak' fifty with a simple Triplet optical design and an M42 mounting thread. The lens does not have a huge or even decent aperture ratio (as for a prime lens), or any particularly high-quality image. If anyone knows if there are any significant differences between this lens and the Meyer-Optik Görlitz Domiplan 2.8 / 50, please unsubscribe in the comments.

Focusing on the lens is smooth, the focus ring is thin and uncomfortable, when focusing, I touch the aperture control ring. The minimum focusing distance is as much as 75cm, which is much more than the more common MDF for fifty dollars. Usually MDF for fifty dollars is 50cm. The focus ring rotates 180 degrees, while the front lens does not spin, and the trunk of the lens lengthens slightly.

The lens has an automatic blinking iris device without a switch to manual iris control. For use on the central locking cylinder, the diaphragm pusher must be locked. Aperture blades total 6 pieces. The diameter of the front filter is 49mm, the lens itself is small, it seems to be assembled rather well, but in the hands it does not cause much confidence.

Everything is filmed on Canon 350D on the open diaphragm. At F / 2.8, the lens is very soft due to spherical aberrations. Bokeh specific, for an amateur.

How to use with modern cameras?

Lenses with mounting thread M42 (M42 X 1 / 45.5), such as the lens from this review, are very easy to use on almost any modern digital camera (both SLR and mirrorless), for this it is enough to choose the right adapter (adapter). You do not need to carry out any additional steps to modify the lens.

The cheapest adapters can be found at Aliexpress.com... There are adapters (adapters) with a chip that provide more convenience during shooting, usually chips are used to confirm focus and / or metering exposure, and form the correct EXIF. The chip does not affect the image quality in any way.

For some SLR cameras (for example, with the Nikon F-mount), you need to use adapters with a corrective lens, which allows you to focus correctly at all focusing distances. For any mirrorless cameras, such a lens is not needed, and the adapter is a simple decorated hollow metal tube with an appropriate mount.

For SLR cameras

  1. Canon: For cameras Canon EOS with bayonet mount EF / EF-S need an M42-Canon EOS adapter, such an adapter with a chip can be found herewithout chip here.
  2. NIKON: For cameras Nikon DX / FXas well as for cameras Fujifilm и Kodak with a Nikon F mount, you need an M42-Nikon F adapter, you can buy such an adapter without a lens and a chip here, with a lens without a chip herewith chip without lens here, with lens and chip here. Why a lens? Why chip?
  3. PENTAX: For Pentax cameras with K mount, you need an M42-Pentax K adapter, you can buy such an adapter here.

For mirrorless cameras

  1. SONY: For cameras with 'E'/'FE' mount series SonyNEX и Sony Alpha you need an adapter M42-Sony E (aka M42-Sony Nex), you can find it at this link. An autofocus adapter is also available for these cameras. Techart PRO Leica M - Sony E Autofocus Adapterwhich can be found at this link.
  2. OLYMPUS / PANASONIC / KODAK / XIAOMI: For cameras with a bayonet mount Micro 4/3 (Micro 4:3) you need an adapter M42-Micro 4/3, you can find it at this link.

I also want to thank the author for all the reviews and for the work done. And it doesn't matter what lenses are. I want to know about all lenses, to be able to see pictures from them, draw conclusions, learn something new for myself. Experimental adepts are very interesting (LOMO as an experiment - made an impression)). An irreplaceable resource. Interesting reviews. Thanks Arkady.

I cannot agree with the author. I have two versions of this lens. One is soft, the other is my most magical fifty dollars. The author was out of luck. I also recommend trying it on a full-size camera. Best regards, Evgeny

One of my favorite. The author is clearly not reduced. They have this trouble. Rear lens with three screws. Very inconvenient to mix. I bought it very cheaply at an auction, they promised that everything was fine, but it turned out to be soap on the open. He experimentally reduced it by simply photographing at a distance a point source of light. It is clearly visible if the displacement. Spent half a day, but as I built the optical axis, I did not recognize him. It is very sharp on the open and well conveys the color of the skin. Well, his bokeh is generally the one and only. I also have a Meyer zebra version. In short, they need to be reduced, tormented, and then he is a song for all kinds of art !!!

If only the video could be posted on YouTube in stages, then there would be no price for it ...

      • Rodion

Just explain what you want to see in this video?))) How do people turn three screws in turn with a screwdriver for several hours and take a picture of a point until it becomes a point?
