Review Auto Revuenon 1: 2.8 f = 28mm

Many thanks to Albert Murashevsky for the opportunity to review the Auto Revuenon 1: 2.8 f = 28mm lens, who sent I have a lens from another area.

Review Auto Revuenon 1: 2.8 f = 28mm

Auto Revuenon 1: 2.8 f = 28mm is an old high-aperture wide-angle lens from film cameras with an M42 mounting thread and a blinking aperture device. No autofocus, the 'Auto' prefix in the name indicates only an automatic blinking aperture that will only work on M42 threaded cameras. It didn't work out for me with this lens, either I got a bad copy, or the weather was just bad. In my hands, the lens produced very mediocre images, the main problem with sharpness. Lens sharpness is low at any aperture value and in any part of the image.

My copy came to me for review in the most ideal 'virgin' condition. The lens has a nice rubberized focus ring that rotates 270 degrees. The front lens does not rotate when focusing. The MDF is 36 cm. The diaphragm device has only 6 blades, and when closed, these blades form either 'circular saws' or an irregular hexagon. The lens has an 'M-A' aperture mode switch. Front filter diameter 6mm, lens weighs about 52 grams. I did not find a mark about the country of manufacture on the lens barrel. The lens is well assembled, it's a pity that the image quality is not so smooth.

Sample Photos

The lens holds back light well. Sharpness is weak. At Auto Revuenon 35mm 1: 2.8 with sharpness, too, not all right. In my opinion, the lens has terrible bokeh. On camera Canon 350D EGF is 44,8mm. On a 28mm crop, the focal length is not the most convenient.

How to use with modern cameras?

Lenses with mounting thread M42 (M42 X 1 / 45.5), such as the lens from this review, are very easy to use on almost any modern digital camera (both SLR and mirrorless), for this it is enough to choose the right adapter (adapter). You do not need to carry out any additional steps to modify the lens.

The cheapest adapters can be found at Aliexpress.com... There are adapters (adapters) with a chip that provide more convenience during shooting, usually chips are used to confirm focus and / or metering exposure, and form the correct EXIF. The chip does not affect the image quality in any way.

For some SLR cameras (for example, with the Nikon F-mount), you need to use adapters with a corrective lens, which allows you to focus correctly at all focusing distances. For any mirrorless cameras, such a lens is not needed, and the adapter is a simple decorated hollow metal tube with an appropriate mount.

For SLR cameras

  1. Canon: For cameras Canon EOS with bayonet mount EF / EF-S need an M42-Canon EOS adapter, such an adapter with a chip can be found herewithout chip here.
  2. NIKON: For cameras Nikon DX / FXas well as for cameras Fujifilm и Kodak with a Nikon F mount, you need an M42-Nikon F adapter, you can buy such an adapter without a lens and a chip here, with a lens without a chip herewith chip without lens here, with lens and chip here. Why a lens? Why chip?
  3. PENTAX: For Pentax cameras with K mount, you need an M42-Pentax K adapter, you can buy such an adapter here.
  4. SONY/MINOLTA: For cameras with a Sony / Minolta A mount, you need the M42-Sony A adapter, you can find such an adapter without a chip at this linkwith a chip at this link.
  5. OLYMPUS/PANASONIC/LEICA: For cameras with a 4/3 bayonet mount (not to be confused with Micro 4/3!) You need an M42-4 / 3 adapter, you can buy such an adapter here.

For mirrorless cameras

  1. SONY: For cameras with 'E'/'FE' mount series SonyNEX и Sony Alpha you need an adapter M42-Sony E (aka M42-Sony Nex), you can find it at this link. An autofocus adapter is also available for these cameras. Techart PRO Leica M - Sony E Autofocus Adapterwhich can be found at this link.
  2. OLYMPUS / PANASONIC / KODAK / XIAOMI: For cameras with a bayonet mount Micro 4/3 (Micro 4:3) you need an adapter M42-Micro 4/3, you can find it at this link.
  3. CANON M: For cameras with Canon EF-M mount need adapter M42-Canon M, it can be found at this link.
  4. CANON R and RF-S: For cameras with Canon RF mount need adapter M42-Canon R, it can be found at this link.
  5. Nikon 1: For cameras Nikon 1 Series need adapter M42-Nikon 1, you can find it at this link.
  6. Nikon Z: For cameras Nikon Z series (FX/DX) need an adapter M42-Nikon Z, it can be found at this link.
  7. FUJIFILM X: For cameras with mount X need an M42-Fuji X adapter, you can find it at this link.
  8. FUJIFILM GFX: For medium format cameras G-mount need M42-Fuji GFX adapter, you can find it at this link.
  9. SAMSUNG: For cameras with NX mount, you need an M42-Samsung NX adapter, you can find it at this link. There are no adapters for the NX mini camera yet.
  10. PENTAX: For Q-mount cameras, you need an M42-Pentax Q adapter, you can find it at this link.
  11. SIGMA / PANASONIC / LEICA: For cameras with L mount you need an M42-Leica L adapter, you can find it at this link.

Auto Revuenon 1: 2.8 f = 28mm is a weak full-angle wide-angle. Not recommended for cropped cameras.

  • Albert

    As owner :)
There is nothing to add to the review, everything is as it is. I do not recommend purchasing, except for UAH 20-30, but prepare for extensive editing or drive everything into monochrome, add grains, etc., etc. If you have a whale lens, stay with it)

  • Romih

It happened, finally I saw you have a negative assessment of the lens. And then everything is either good or excellent)))

  • reviewer

I agree with RoMih, in the vast majority of cases, everything is good, it characterizes you from the good side, as they say the master’s case is afraid!
I admire your ability to work, keep it up !!!

    • Arkady Shapoval

It's just that in the vast majority it is really difficult to find a frankly bad lens.

      • Yuriy75

I found Sigma 70-300 mm f4-5.6 DG Macro for Canon, the picture is soft at all focal lengths at any aperture values, and lens brightening distorts white balance, chromatic aberration is terrible, go around and do not advise your friends. Arkady is very grateful for the work, today there are not many altruists.

  • Oleg

    Wrong - great inexpensive lens
    Examples - http://photo.qip.ru/users/forpentax/4222632/all/

    • nukemall

Which one? Revuenon is a trademark of the German consignor Quelle, there were a lot of different “Revuenon 28 / 2.8”.

  • Vadim

There are a couple of frames on which the sharpness from right to left noticeably worsens. Maybe one of the lenses of this instance is skewed?

  • nukemall

This is the early work of Samyang, the beginning of the 80s of the last century. They have the whole series of lenses came out wonderfully miserable, even managed to ruin 135 / 2.8. And the very first lens, also 28 / 2.8, at Samyang’s turned out to be a reference epic clap, everyone who came across thought that he had one of the lenses turned upside down.

    • Basil

I treat such reviews with great suspicion because there is no information, no specifics, but only emotions “horror, horror, horror”. Therefore, expect a wrong assessment.

      • Rodion

What are the specifics? Have you seen the photo? There, by one lens, one can see that the lens has both a sphere and a coma huge. And vignetting at 50%, of course. This product claims to be worse than even the ancient Pentacon 29 / 2.8.

      • B. R. P.

Vasily, believe me, nukemall has more than enough specifics on lenses.

  • Jura ^ __ ^

    meni was able to bokeh

  • Jura ^ _ ^

And me bokeh pre. (One, nothing good in new). Guess planks on sklі, transfers to watercolor

  • anonym

sharp contrast, open even at the edges, is good. worse with chromaticity and blooming up to aperture of 5,6

  • Roman

Japanese engineers and workers produced an inexpensive wide-angle for film cameras. It’s about the same way that Soviet engineers produced all kinds of consumer goods (and the same way that Chinese engineers produce this kind of consumer goods, gradually raising the quality and increasing the price). You like it - you can conduct laboratory tests. In the end, in the laboratories they research a lot of things, you can bring them in a box. I have enough photo to understand - it's not worth it.

    • Seladir

I would like to see photographs of not bottles as confirmation, but, for example, architecture or landscapes. This will be more consistent with the phrase "not lazy";)

      • Rodion

The right bottle will work too. But here, of course, the photo is meaningless - in the center, sharpness for shirikov is usually always present, but this is not why we love them.

        • Novel

Everything is meaningless here, not just a photo. Buy some rubbish for a penny, shoot bottles on it and rejoice that the shape and color of the image is guessed. Although, in principle, it is quite suitable as a lens for shooting bottles.

          • Basil

You just need to talk, there is such a breed of people. Or you need to see a doctor, since you can hardly guess the shape and color of the plastic bottle.

        • Novel

It should be a Klein bottle.

      • Basil

the review contains enough photos to form an opinion. He is not as “terrified” as it is written about. That would be in the original, without resize and with exe. if he is.

    • Victor

To shoot a full-frame shirik screwed by 4/3 (!!!) some bottle on the table, while admiring the sharpness is five :-)

  • Novel

    Hello!
I wanted to clarify such a moment. Now you can see more lenses: Auto Revuenon MC 1: 1,4 f = 50 mm and Auto Revuenon MCF 1: 1,7 f = 50 EF. Could you tell me whether they can be used on Canon crop mirrors. If so, which one would be preferable?

    • Novel

      Such:

      And this:

      • Novel

I asked about this from the seller, said that he has an electronic diaphragm and it will not work.

    • B. R. P.

Through the adapter, you can use it, depending on which mount.

      • Novel

        EF / EF-S

        • Novel

The seller of the lens said that he does not have a thread and only fits Mamiya cameras.

          • B. R. P.

There are hardly any adapters for such a bayonet mount, most likely only to be cut.

  • Manfromsummer

If we take a high-aperture manual shirik, then, in my opinion, it makes sense to spend money and buy a truly legendary, I'm not afraid of this word, glass: NIKON 28 mm f / 2.8 Ai-s.
However, it is rather problematic to buy one in good condition in Ukraine.
About five years ago I took one on OLX, the seller, as it turned out later, got caught by a crook - he kept silent about the problems with the diaphragm. The diaphragm was repaired, but I decided to sell that glass - my friendship with him did not work. The copy that I now have - I ordered from Japan.
What to say? It's just a diamond.

    • Alexey

sharp fast manual shirik - zuiko 28mm 2.0 - this is one of the sharpest shiriks in general.

  • SashOK

And I recently got this lens in excellent condition with an almost new (film) Pentax P30. And he is with a Pentax mount.
I was a little upset that Arkady got an unimportant copy, I hope not everyone was like that and I will have the sharpest and sharpest :)))
On my copy, by the way, it says Made in Korea (I hope not North :))))
In general, I click on the test film and it will be seen.
