For the opportunity to write view of the Vivitar 28mm 1: 2.5 Auto Wide-Angle lens many thanks to Dmitry Pavlovich, who sent I have a lens from another area.
Vivitar 28mm 1: 2.5 Auto Wide-Angle is a fast wide-angle prime lens for full-frame cameras. My copy has a Nikon F mount and is NON AI lens, that is, does not transmit the set aperture value to the camera. How to use old lenses on modern Nikon digital SLR cameras can be found in the section on AI-S lenses. The 'Auto' prefix in the name is responsible for automatic iris control. Of course, the lens does not have auto focus. On Nikon DX cameras EGF the lens will be 42mm, on cropped cameras the lens loses all its interest.
Exist version with 67 mm filter diameter.
Focusing on the lens is smooth. The focus ring is quite wide, metal, rotates 270 degrees, while the front lens does not rotate. The trunk of the lens lengthens slightly. MDF is 30 centimeters, on the lens you can find the scale of the distance of focusing and the scale of depth of field.
The minimum aperture value is F / 22, the number of aperture blades is only 6 pieces. The lens is very well assembled. Made by Vivitar 28mm f / 2.5 in Japan.
Sample Photos
The lens 'catches hares' decently. Sharpness and distortion are fine. Very severe vignetting is noticeable at F / 2.5. In general, the lens is of little interest. Sample photos without processing:

The Vivitar 28mm 1: 2.5 Auto Wide-Angle turned out to be a weak lens in many respects. Of the obvious shortcomings - a strong fear of backlight and strong vignetting. The advantages are excellent assembly and good sharpness.

good drawing gives
I do not like curved lines, what's the point in a lens that distorts the space and proportions of objects. On crope as a staffer where did not go
Do photographs have to be “straightforward”?
this is my subjective opinion, there are no boundaries in art.
The lens was developed and manufactured by the cult Japanese company Kino Precision, under its own trademark known as Kiron (Vivitar is a trademark of the American trade company Ponder & Best). One of the first lenses with such a combination of focal length and aperture ratio, so few people cared about the image quality. And in general, the "cult" of the company is more connected with some kind of prejudice of stupid Americans (tm). Kino Precision had lenses with formally high characteristics, but the drawing and color rendition even with them are somehow not very good. But the design of all lenses is stupid to amazement, when disassembled, even the meekest angel of God will generate tons of fierce hatred, there is not even a senseless complication like that of the Germans, but the choice of the most ridiculous technical solution possible.
Super review - laughed for a long time +10500
I fully support the author, the other day I did a disassembly of vivitara 100-200, a posto nightmare.
Full bullshit. Even if you pray for some distagon, this one will not be much worse.
You need to know how to use each lens. Manual optics - like a lover. If you know all the cockroaches in his head, the result will be an unforgettable night. Theorists will always compare figures in graphs, and the artist will shoot masterpieces on Helios 44-2.
He took his favorite photo on Helios 44-2 ..
I will add a little on the topic, Vivitar has different models of 28 / 2,5 lenses, in particular, different variations from Kiron with slight differences, as well as models that were produced by Tokina (the serial number began with 37). In the internet you can find a complete list of these Vivitar'ov with descriptions and differences.
I have a Kironov lens as in the review (for M42 thread), as well as Tokinovsky with a replaceable shank for the TX system. I like Kironovsky’s build quality, it’s just perfect, there are no backlashes, no gaps, everything works easily and smoothly, as in a completely new thing, despite its age, the diaphragm is perfectly flat.
I haven’t had time to normally test the Tokinovsky option, because acquired it recently. But from first impressions I can say that he will be more abrupt than his fellow. The aperture is 8-bladed, but the drive unfortunately does not have half-stops, like Kiron's (after 2,5 immediately 4). The diameter of the front lens and the thread under the filter decreased, as a result of which the front of the lens no longer stands out, and in general it has acquired a simpler and more modern look. Reduced MDF to 25cm.
Good day, did anyone deal with Vivitar cpc auto 28mm macro cct f2,8
the lens has terrible sharpness problems at the fully open aperture, everything is much better at the next position f4,0, I would like to know this problem is inherent in all glasses of this model or I was just very unlucky =)
The point here is not visible in the lens ...

World 24 will be better in all respects
* For Victor
Mir 24n is undoubtedly a very good lens, but it has a 35mm FR, and this Vivitar has 28. On the crop, both do not differ in “razor sharpness” at an open aperture, but on film Vivitar was very good. I successfully used such a lens (under M42) in the distant 86th for shooting kids at matinees and in the process of outdoor games. I find it very good for short and medium distances. Among other things, it has quite a decent color rendering, and starting from "4" its sharpness is enough for most scenes "on short". At long distances, to achieve an acceptable pattern, you need to cover it up to at least 5,6-8. In addition, given that its cost is 2-3 times lower than the cost of "Mir-24n", I consider the acquisition of this Vivitar more economically feasible (IMHO), especially since its conversion into "Ai" does not present any difficulties - it is just that instead of the “ears” the simplest pusher bracket is screwed on, and there is no need to saw anything on the frame itself.
I have 28mm 1: 2.5 m42 aperture for filter 67 on a canon 600d perfectly conveys a picture
they complain in vain, maybe later there will be difficulties during disassembly, but it doesn't matter ... "Everything that doesn't kill us makes us stronger!"
Someone share your vivitar 24 / 2.8 experience with F mount
You are strange people, people. So I only use fixes at the amateur level, I did not have anything wider than 50mm, I purchased this vivitar as a means of capturing the width of the frame, initially in my hands - yes, horror, hares during the day, but you can get used to everything, there would be a desire ...
Max, what did you want to show in the picture? Nothing is visible. Would add HDR by exposure - much more interesting the frame would come out, at the same time a good advertisement for this Vivitar would be =)
IMHO, I do not agree.
Shown exactly how much is needed. The deep shadows of the main subject create the shot. + the general abstract figure formed by black is very harmonious against the background of what is inside the photo latitude.
HDR would kill the photo - making the whole picture flat - like the surface of a body of water.
Thank you) I don't understand HDR at all ... If you want more light, come to the place early)
HDR is useful for a technically correct shot in terms of exposure. Those. so that the entire histogram is "inside", so to speak.
"Why the heck do you need this in life?" - a rhetorical question.
Kotofey, I like the moment, I like the shapes, lines, contrast, colors, the feeling of memories. With a budget of 1500-2000 USD I would never take Vivitar. But the budget is $ 50. Is a common means of transferring space to a matrix.
Thanks for the sample shot. Use a hood, if so, which one?
You're welcome. No, I do not use. The front ring of the lens moves, twists. Better stock up on software and patience. My glass has low contrast across the entire frame, sharpness is also relative ...
with macro rings on sony a6000 it works quite well on a closed hole, however you want ...
here - why talk so indiscriminately about vignetting? now, on my vivitar, I specifically began to look out, “rested,” well - there is no it! if the models with a 62 and 67mm filter differ so much - (I have 67) - so it is necessary to stipulate it so that people do not confuse.
I bought it on Avito in a new state for 500 rubles, screwed it to nex 5 - I'm happy as an elephant. Compared to helios and other Soviet lenses - a bomb. At a normal price, take it unambiguously, depth of field is large, infinity from 7 meters at a fully open aperture, sharpness with 1/4 is good, there is enough contrast. About the quality of performance - super, no backlash, no creaks, everything turns clearly and smoothly. I don't pretend to be a pro, I click for myself. I really like the shots of people against the background of nature, architecture. For me, this lens is a good find ...
Good day! Tell me somebody. Did I understand correctly - is the Panagor PMC 28 mm f / 2.5 Auto Wide Angle the same lens, only for the American market?
Yes
A lens from the must-have series on a crop. Firstly, the area of the image that suffers almost at all widths (the edges of the frame) falls out of the visible limits. Secondly, on a 1.5 crop, this glass turns into a 35mm classic. For video it will come in handy. You can shoot large pieces with an interesting distortion of perspective, etc.
Of the pluses - sharp, excellent microcontrast, color reproduction is fire, MDF is just a bomb, cool controls and build quality (mechanics / painting, etc.).
Of the minuses - the lack of a habit to use such things, the “masterpiece” button is in an inconvenient place ... I still haven’t felt it. Displays the environment without processing, then you need to edit the photo yourself. Makes you spend calories, get up off the couch and go shoot. Doesn't make coffee.
In general - price / quality, as if suddenly a 2.4 flip for $ 50 fell into the hands.
What camera are you using? For crop DSLRs, probably a good option. For a full frame, somehow the edges are not right ...
A6000. Full frame yes, not his forte, I wrote about it. Any crop can be 1.5 / 1.6 no matter what camera. Rather, it is important that the copy of the lens itself turns out to be sensible.
Hello, what did you bet on? What adapter did you use, please?
I have this lens, but the diameter is 58mm and the shank is removable. I use it on crop, FujiS5pro. I really like the picture from it and what surprised me is that it is very sharp at an open aperture.
