Overview I-61L / D 2,8 / 55

For the opportunity to write review of the lens I-61L / D 2,8 / 55 Many thanks to Oleg Dragging, who sent I have a lens from another area.

Industar-61 LD lens overview

Industar-61 LD lens overview

И-61 is short for Иndustar-61. Modifications of the Industar-61 lens exist simply countless. Basically, lenses differ in the working distance (rangefinder and mirror lenses), the manufacturer, the frame of the body, lens enlightenment, aperture device and even different focal lengths in the names of Inudstar-61 lenses. You can find that I-61 has 50, 52, 53 and 55 mm focal length. Most likely these are subtleties of designation of Soviet lenses, and not real differences in focal length. All lenses in the base have the same optical design.

The lens from this review, I-61L / D 2,8 / 55, is a modification for mirrorless rangefinder cameras, produced at the Kharkov machine-building plant 'FED'. Since this is a rangefinder version of the lens, its use on modern SLR cameras will make it possible to obtain only macro shots, in more detail here. For normal operation of the lens on SLR cameras, you need to look for the lens I-61 L/Z (mirror)for example, like this Industar-61 LZ MS 50mm F2.8

I-61 L D rear view

Focus ring rotates 180 degrees. The minimum focusing distance is 1 meter. The focusing ring is very close to the back of the lens, so focusing is not very convenient. The aperture control ring is in front of the lens, the lens does not have a preset aperture ring. You can only set the values F / 2.8, 4, 5.6, 8, 11, 16. The number of aperture blades - 6 pieces, they have the correct shape, in contrast to Industar-61 LZ. The lens has a depth of field scale and focusing distance.

The lens itself is made of metal and glass, very small and compact, outwardly similar to its older brothers I-26m 2,8 / 52 и Industar-26m 1: 2.8 F = 5cm P. Landing thread M39, front filter diameter 42mm, weighs such a crumb 140 g

How to use Soviet old M39 lenses on modern Nikon cameras read here, and on Canon here. I used I-61L / D 2,8 / 55 on the camera Nikon D700 using the adapter ring M39-M42 and adapter M42-Nikon. Due to the fact that this is a rangefinder lens, it is possible to obtain only macro photographs on a reflex camera. Look at the examples of how sharp the lens is, even at F / 2.8.

How to use with modern cameras?

Lenses with an M39 thread (for rangefinder cameras, M39 X 1/28.8), such as the lens from this review, are very easy to use on almost any modern digital camera (both SLR and mirrorless), for this you just need to choose the right adapter (adapter). There is no need to carry out any additional actions to remake the lens. The cheapest adapters can be found at Aliexpress.com.

For mirrorless cameras

  1. SONY: For cameras with 'E'/'FE' mount series SonyNEX и Sony Alpha need here is an adapter M39 -Sony E (aka L39 -Sony Nex).
  2. OLYMPUS / PANASONIC / KODAK / XIAOMI: For cameras with a bayonet mount Micro 4/3 (Micro 4:3) need here is an adapter M39-Micro 4/3.
  3. CANON M: For cameras with Canon EF-M mount need here is such an adapter M39-Canon M.
  4. CANON R and RF-S: For cameras with Canon RF mount need here is such an adapter M39-Canon R.
  5. Nikon 1: For cameras Nikon 1 Series need here is such an adapter M39-Nikon 1.
  6. Nikon Z: For cameras Nikon Z series (FX/DX) needed here is such an adapter M39-Nikon Z.
  7. FUJIFILM X: For cameras with mount X need here is such an adapter M39-Fuji X.
  8. FUJIFILM GFX: For medium format cameras G-mount need here is such an adapter M39-Fuji GFX.
  9. SAMSUNG: NX mount cameras require here is an adapter M39-Samsung NX. There are no adapters for the NX mini camera yet.
  10. SIGMA / PANASONIC / LEICA: For cameras with L mount need here is such an adapter M39-Leica L.
  11. LEICA: For cameras with a bayonet mount Leica M need here is an adapter M39-L / M.

It's important: for SLR cameras, only macro mode is possible (can only shoot at very close focusing distances).

For SLR cameras (macro mode only)

  1. Canon: For cameras Canon EOS with bayonet mount EF / EF-S need here is an adapter M39 -Canon EOS.
  2. NIKON: For cameras Nikon DX / FXas well as for cameras Fujifilm и Kodak with Nikon F mount needed here is such an adapter M39 -Nikon F (some cameras will only work in M-mode).
  3. PENTAX: For Pentax K-mount cameras, you need here is such an adapter M39 -Pentax K.
  4. SONY/MINOLTA: For cameras with a Sony/Minolta A mount, you need here is an adapter M39 -Sony A.
  5. OLYMPUS/PANASONIC/LEICA: For cameras with 4/3 mount (not to be confused with Micro 4/3!) here is an adapter M39 -4/3.

Conclusions

I-61L / D 2,8 / 55 is a pleasant rangefinder lens. I recommend I-61L / D as a cheap macro lens. For macro, automatic focusing is not particularly important, and the quality of the images taken with the I-61L / D 2,8 / 55 is still at its best.

Good day! Today I found among the old technology a FED 4 camera and, accordingly, an I-61 l / d 2,8 / 52 lens. I want to use it on a Canon 600d. Tell me which adapter you need to purchase or maybe something else, and where? (Moscow or some online stores).

    • anonym

Adapter M39-Canon EOS or two adapters M39-M42 + M42-Canon EOS

  • anonym

Too over-praised lens. But of the 2,8 Tessars produced in our historical homeland - the USSR, one of the best. He was badly hurt by the disgusting discipline of production. I came across “striped” and black specimens in which the flange went “plus” up to 0,7 mm (!), Can you imagine? You take apart the lens, and there are no adjustment rings there. That is, the glass groove is defective. At the factory, with grief, the camera was adjusted in half with this lens, but what happened is clear - you can't put interchangeable optics on a carcass, or a lens anywhere. So, before testing the I-61 l / d, it is imperative to check compliance with RO 28,8 mm. You can imagine how the interlens were kept in the block there.
In terms of optical properties - At 2,8 the resolution is very good, then there is a two-threefold (depending on the copy) dip in resolution to 3,5-4, then again a burst to 42-45 lines. by mm., and after 11 again failure. This is what happened if you wanted to "fasten" half a stop to the normal Tessara 3,5. I “waved them without looking” at the excellent I-22s, leaving a couple for collection and meditation, of course, bringing RO to 28,8 :)

    • anonym

In the USSR, in every camera freshly bought in the store, a leaflet was attached to the lens with its RO. In earlier models, the RO data of each camera fit into the passport of the device with a painting of the person who made the adjustment and measurement of the camera. Thus, the best result was on the camera with its native lens, released and tested at the factory. Ottaki affairs, little ones. (In many old lenses sold separately, their Passport was specifically indicated in the passport.)

        Cool!

      • mAlex

... more precisely, for everyone. Fits in the flange, fit in the center / edge resolution. Individually. At least, in the passport for "Industar-50-2" in 1989, all this is still issued in the "old way".

    Good day to all!
Who can advise what the following problem is connected with: Canon 1100D installed this lens through an adapter from M39 to M42 and M42-EOS.
It is not aimed at sharpness at all, on the whole focusing scale and at any aperture it is very scary.
    Thank you!

Hello. really liked your photos. according to this I bought myself an industrial 61l / d2,8 / 55, a canon 1100d carcass, an M42 adapter. help with setting up the chip, if possible then detailed instructions. I will be very grateful and grateful.

  • Ostap

Hello! I read almost all of your site on those branches that started to interest me ... But nevertheless, as a beginner, I have to ask something again. At home I assembled 3 objects: Industar 69 2.8-28, Jupiter 8m and Industar 61l / d 2.8 / 53. Photocamera near Canon 60D. Interested in:
    1) Do I need for all three lenses either two rings m39-42 and 42 eos or m39-eos? Correctly!???
    2) After reading everything, I understand that all three lenses will be for macro shooting? I won’t even make a portrait?

Thank you all in advance for your reply !!!

  • Ostap

And I also wanted to ask ... If none of the lenses are suitable for a portrait, which of the old techniques would you recommend to replace the native 50mm f 1,4 for my carcass ...? Thanks again!!!

    • mAlex

Of the old 50 / 1,4 technology, there is one lens - Jupiter-3. It is a rangefinder, and only macro will directly affect your carcass. True, there is an option. You can transplant the Yu-3 lens unit into the helicoid from Industar-50, and then try to shoot something with the assembly, or remake your native frame the way the I-61 is used for a DSLR.

      • Rodion

Lens block J3 will not fit in either I50 or I61 - it is too large in diameter.

  • Paul

I would advise you to a sharp Helios 44-3 MC and an M42-EOS adapter (focusing, of course, manual)

  • Fedor

Tell me, will this rangefinder lens in reverse attachment work just like the mirrored version of the I-61 L / Z? What is the approximate distance to the subject?

    • Brightly

Good afternoon, tell me please, I installed this lens on Zenith 3 and there is no sharpness, I spin the wheel but there is no result. Is it a broken lens? There is no opportunity to install on a digital camera, there are no adapters.

    • Rodin

At mirror zenith, a rangefinder lens will only be for macro.

  • smargelov

I found such a lens from a friend in a barn. It looks very shabby. Yes, and wedges the focusing ring. Is it possible to disassemble it and lubricate something, or is there any structural damage? Will it work more than just macro on a cropped (2) mirrorless?

    • serg

WILL WORK WITHOUT MACRO \ AT ME ON SONY NEX5N A PERFECT MANUAL- BETTER THAN NIKON 50-1.8 \

      • Alexander

And there are photo samples to look at how the photos look on the Nex5n? I also want to have such a camera, but I doubt it might be better to take the Industar-61 L / Z variant or, still, the Industar-61 L / D.

          • Eugene

Hello! Was this lens tested on Sony Nex? interested in macro photography. thanks.

            • anonym

On Sony Nacks, the result will be the same as on SLR cameras. The lens does not matter which matrix to focus the image on. If you need to reduce the MDF, then just screw one or more macro rings (M - 39). DOF will be reduced. It will be necessary to close the aperture to increase the DOF, which will lead to an increase in shutter speed. If there is not enough light, then a tripod will be needed to exclude “stirring”. Industar - 61 L / D is a very good lens, sharp, contrasting. When buying, you just need to look so that the optics inside are clean, like a tear, so that there are no abrasions and scratches on the front and rear lenses. Pay special attention to the absence of traces of disassembling the lens optics. If you find just such a lens, it will delight you with a beautiful picture. (And macro - ALSO!)

            • mAlex

The Neks will have an excellent normal lens - with the Nex-M39 adapter, if you want a macro, then either put the M39 rings, they are sold, or the Nex-M42 adapter for the Helios-44 with the M39 / M42 ring ...

Thanks to the author of the article for the information provided. I found a FED-5V at home and wanted to shoot it, but my friendship with the film did not work out. I ordered rings with ali and fastened Industar to my Nikon d5200. The pictures are amazing. I enclose an example:

  • Dmitriy

Good day. I wanted to ask what kind of adapter for Sony Nex is needed for this subject. M42 / M39-Nex seems to be like a long RO for mirror lenses, and this lens is rangefinder. That is, the adapter should be shorter, so as not to hit the macro, and portraits, for example, go to infinity.
PS: I am familiar with the subject, I read all the comments.
    Thank you in advance.

    • Arkady Shapoval

Need a regular m39-sony nex, for example, such.

      • Dmitriy

        Very grateful

  • Sergei

Please tell me on the cropped SLR infinity for this lens will be? without adapters with lenses. that is, with the usual adapter m39? Thanks.

    • Arkady Shapoval

      Yes, it will.

      • Sergey

Arkady, the glass is intended for the range finder (L / D, not L / Z). This lens is suitable only for macro photography, the focus ring will spin, but you will not be able to focus with it. Aiming is carried out only by approximating / moving the lens in relation to the subject.

        • Arkady Shapoval

I made a mistake reading it incorrectly.
Everything is simple - on a mirrorless camera - it will be, on a DSLR it will not.

I got the lens with a FED-3 range finder, which I bought at a flea market for 250 rubles
It became interesting, I ordered an adapter M39 - Micro 4/3 and installed it on my Olympus PL-5
In principle, a good portrait for such ridiculous money for optics of this class.
      Soft focus, pleasant, airy bokeh.

Industar-61 is a great friend of mirrorless cameras; it works on them as a full-fledged lens, and not just as a makrusnik.
