Overview I-61L / D 2,8 / 55

For the opportunity to write review of the lens I-61L / D 2,8 / 55 Many thanks to Oleg Dragging, who sent I have a lens from another area.

Industar-61 LD lens overview

И-61 is short for Иndustar-61. Modifications of the Industar-61 lens exist simply countless. Basically, lenses differ in the working distance (rangefinder and mirror lenses), the manufacturer, the frame of the body, lens enlightenment, aperture device and even different focal lengths in the names of Inudstar-61 lenses. You can find that I-61 has 50, 52, 53 and 55 mm focal length. Most likely these are subtleties of designation of Soviet lenses, and not real differences in focal length. All lenses in the base have the same optical design.

The lens from this review, I-61L / D 2,8 / 55, is a modification for mirrorless rangefinder cameras, produced at the Kharkov machine-building plant 'FED'. Since this is a rangefinder version of the lens, its use on modern SLR cameras will make it possible to obtain only macro shots, in more detail here. For normal operation of the lens on SLR cameras, you need to look for the lens I-61 L/Z (mirror)for example, like this Industar-61 LZ MS 50mm F2.8

Focus ring rotates 180 degrees. The minimum focusing distance is 1 meter. The focusing ring is very close to the back of the lens, so focusing is not very convenient. The aperture control ring is in front of the lens, the lens does not have a preset aperture ring. You can only set the values F / 2.8, 4, 5.6, 8, 11, 16. The number of aperture blades - 6 pieces, they have the correct shape, in contrast to Industar-61 LZ. The lens has a depth of field scale and focusing distance.

How to use Soviet old M39 lenses on modern Nikon cameras read here, and on Canon here. I used I-61L / D 2,8 / 55 on the camera Nikon D700 using the adapter ring M39-M42 and adapter M42-Nikon. Due to the fact that this is a rangefinder lens, it is possible to obtain only macro photographs on a reflex camera. Look at the examples of how sharp the lens is, even at F / 2.8.

How to use with modern cameras?

Lenses with an M39 thread (for rangefinder cameras, M39 X 1/28.8), such as the lens from this review, are very easy to use on almost any modern digital camera (both SLR and mirrorless), for this you just need to choose the right adapter (adapter). There is no need to carry out any additional actions to remake the lens. The cheapest adapters can be found at Aliexpress.com.

For mirrorless cameras

  1. SONY: For cameras with 'E'/'FE' mount series SonyNEX и Sony Alpha need here is an adapter M39 -Sony E (aka L39 -Sony Nex).
  2. OLYMPUS / PANASONIC / KODAK / XIAOMI: For cameras with a bayonet mount Micro 4/3 (Micro 4:3) need here is an adapter M39-Micro 4/3.
  3. CANON M: For cameras with Canon EF-M mount need here is such an adapter M39-Canon M.
  4. CANON R and RF-S: For cameras with Canon RF mount need here is such an adapter M39-Canon R.
  5. Nikon 1: For cameras Nikon 1 Series need here is such an adapter M39-Nikon 1.
  6. Nikon Z: For cameras Nikon Z series (FX/DX) needed here is such an adapter M39-Nikon Z.
  7. FUJIFILM X: For cameras with mount X need here is such an adapter M39-Fuji X.
  8. FUJIFILM GFX: For medium format cameras G-mount need here is such an adapter M39-Fuji GFX.
  9. SAMSUNG: NX mount cameras require here is an adapter M39-Samsung NX. There are no adapters for the NX mini camera yet.
  10. SIGMA / PANASONIC / LEICA: For cameras with L mount need here is such an adapter M39-Leica L.
  11. LEICA: For cameras with a bayonet mount Leica M need here is an adapter M39-L / M.

It's important: for SLR cameras, only macro mode is possible (can only shoot at very close focusing distances).

For SLR cameras (macro mode only)

  1. Canon: For cameras Canon EOS with bayonet mount EF / EF-S need here is an adapter M39 -Canon EOS.
  2. NIKON: For cameras Nikon DX / FXas well as for cameras Fujifilm и Kodak with Nikon F mount needed here is such an adapter M39 -Nikon F (some cameras will only work in M-mode).
  3. PENTAX: For Pentax K-mount cameras, you need here is such an adapter M39 -Pentax K.
  4. SONY/MINOLTA: For cameras with a Sony/Minolta A mount, you need here is an adapter M39 -Sony A.
  5. OLYMPUS/PANASONIC/LEICA: For cameras with 4/3 mount (not to be confused with Micro 4/3!) here is an adapter M39 -4/3.

Conclusions

I-61L / D 2,8 / 55 is a pleasant rangefinder lens. I recommend I-61L / D as a cheap macro lens. For macro, automatic focusing is not particularly important, and the quality of the images taken with the I-61L / D 2,8 / 55 is still at its best.

The difference between the designations 53 and 55 is the difference in the lens barrel, in mm. Info is on the official website of KMZ. I decided to check, because there are both lenses. And "Eureka")), the lens caps have a difference in diameter! At the 55th, she no longer sits, but immediately falls from the 53rd. And vice versa, the cap with the 53rd must be forced onto the 55th. There is also a difference in the color of enlightenment. But I think that this difference in designation, if you take all the nuances together, would be the designation of the generation of the lens release. In the earlier 10 aperture blades - in the 52nd, and in the newer ones - in the 53rd and 55th, only 6. So).

  • SERGEI

Good lens for m4 \ 3 with an adapter. Not inferior to the Sigma fix 60mm. However, there is no infinity-soap. Infinity appears on the 10m-further soap on the scale. The sharpness in RAW without processing is very good - I did not expect it.

    • Eugene

You are out of luck with the adapter. You have a typical overrun for infinity. This happens if the adapter is too short and the working distance is less than that of the lens.

  • Etude

I shot FED 3 with Industar 61ld on b & w film. What can I say - on the covered apertures are sharp. The most working, in my opinion, 5,6 and 8. On Svemov b & w films, all these magical bokeh and blur were somehow not visible. The design is also ambiguous. The focuser ring, as for me, is not very convenient. Too close to the camera body. The movement of the helicoid is smooth-tight and you can say pleasant in sensations, and at the same time there was some kind of internal backlash. As if the free travel had to be chosen when rotating left-right .The aperture values are fixed - not to say that it is always convenient. The first pictures were taken with him in the distant now 1976 goda. Then he was somehow not particularly appreciated - widespread consumer goods. Well, now ... The magic of a picture is not in optics, but in the ability to use opportunities her for playing with light and shadow IMHO

  • Etude

Ps To the above, I want to add a few words about the quality of optics. The normal, more or less, quality of photo optics (although this applies to all consumer goods in the USSR) was about until 1987. With the introduction of the so-called. state acceptance, paradoxically, the quality of products almost everywhere began to fall. By the time the Soviet Union collapsed, it was generally below the plinth. There are many reasons for this. And the lack of quality materials and the replacement of one with another, etc., etc. And the culture of production. fell almost catastrophically. I am a technologist by profession. Therefore, I know the topic from the inside. Summing up, we can conclude - the earlier copy of the lens comes across according to the years of production, the better. The less chances of raking out chips and dirt. All good pictures!

It does not fit then with the mountains of shavings inside the zebras I-61 and I-26M antediluvian.

  • Sergei

Hello! Is it possible to determine the year of manufacture by the industrial serial number?

  • Igor

After a small modification, the lens can be used on a DSLR (canon 650d) as a standard fifty-fifty.

a video from YouTube about nothing ... the result was shown, but from what and how it is not clear ... from the category I have already done this a hundred times so I will not repeat myself ...

  • Alevtina

Hello) Please tell me which adapter is worth buying for the sovetsky Industar 61 LD lens, if I have a Kenon 200D camera. M39 - Will Canon Eos work?)))

    • Michael

      Suitable for macro photography

    • Fyodor

Correct, the lens is Soviet ...

  • Ivan

Almost finished version of the adaptation of the I61 L \ D for Nikon cameras. It remains only to blacken out some details and install a steel hood to simplify focusing. By the way, limiters are installed in this version. There is exact infinity, as well as the lens block does not completely get out of the helicoid, stopping at about 1m of the minimum focus. Two lenses were used for alteration: a lens block was taken from I61, and a helicoid was used from Industar 50-2. By crossing these two lenses, it was possible to adapt the rangefinder Industar to the Nikon camera, eliminating any changes in the optical design, as well as adding additional focusing lenses.

    • R'RёS,R ° F "RёR№

I also came to this decision. I wonder how you implemented the constraints? There is absolutely no place for relatives from 50.

      • Ivan

The limiters were small cogs, which are used to attach outer skirts (rings with scales) in industries, helios and the like - when I picked up the necessary values, I screwed them directly into the helix thread. The design turned out to be very delicate, but quite reliable. But still, if you twist the ring with effort, you can damage the limiter, since it itself is fragile and buried only a couple of millimeters. Of the minuses - if it is necessary to disassemble the lens unit of this lens - it will not be possible to do this, its rear part is not collapsible.

      • Ivan

By the way, now on the front of the lens there is an adapter ring for a light filter and a cover from 40.5 to 52mm - this ring is very convenient for focusing, and also makes it much easier to set aperture.

  • Sergei

I would like to see an addition to the review of this lens on a mirrorless camera. Macro is certainly good, but not for everybody.

    • ba3lur

Ali has an L39-Canon M adapter

  • Artem

I bought such a lens, only 2,8 / 53 with amber enlightenment, along with FED-5 for 100 UAH (~ $ 4). On Nex 3N it shoots well, sort of even sharper than the whale SELP1650, but the MDF meter is a bit too much. Is it possible to somehow reduce the focus distance by altering the lens? On Jupiter 8, it seems like you can unscrew the locking screw, is there no such thing?

    • Rodion

Their design is identical to that of Jupiter-8.

  • Alexander

And which lens is better to take on the Sony NEX5n, the one that I-61L / D is indicated in the review or is it better to focus on the I-61L / D? Which one gives a sharper, ringing and contrasting picture? And do I understand correctly that with I-61L / D in the picture there will be no characteristic feature in the bokeh in the form of stars? The tasks are subject shooting, macro photography is possible, although it may be a portrait, although there is another lens for this purpose.

    • mAlex

If we are talking about I-61 l / d, then the most “tasty” of them is striped, they were equipped with FED-3 and FED-4. It is exceptionally sharp and has beautiful bokeh as it has a circular rather than a hexagonal diaphragm. You can play around with black lenses - but this rarely has a useful effect.

      • Rodion

As for the sharpness of the I61, this is purely a matter of luck. Among any I-61, there are successful and not very specimens. I came across a rather lousy zebra in properties, black ones were better. In general, the I-26m was better ... And the I-61L is rare, a review of which is here.

  • Yurii

I have a FED-5 with Industar61 L / D. How can you use macro rings with it? The device is a rangefinder, the rangefinder does not work with rings. Are there any macro schemes with this lens device?

    • BB

It is much easier to use a SLR, including film, for macro photography. You can use your lens. There are tables for recalculating exposure when using macro rings.

    • B. R. P.

Once used some kind of flip frame for focusing, etc., but it's all very approximate. So film rangefinder systems for macro are actually unsuitable.

    • mAlex

Yes, it's called scratching behind the ear with your left foot.
According to the instructions for a macro on a rangefinder, you need to:
      - put the device without a back cover and without a film over the object, ON FATTED GLASS !!! focus and choose a field of view;
      - after that, trying not to sneeze, load the film into the device;
      - take a shot.
Agree, with “Zenith” or “Nex” the problem is solved a little easier.

  • Wladimir

If it weren't for the nervous bokeh, which is inherent in most Industars, it would be the best manual lens for mirrorless cameras with a short flange focal distance, given the fact that the lens uses lanthanum and has a gorgeous resolution, which allows you to often use this lens as a macrick ... It is suitable for both facial portraits and full-length portraits ...

I have three of them - on two, the diaphragm slightly draws on the nuts in the bokeh, although it is rather rounded, but they seem to be somewhat sharper, on the third the diaphragm is absolutely round, apparently from an older I-26 lens and I like it more in as a portrait photographer. The first two digits in the lens number are the year of issue ...

In general, it seems to me that in the USSR it was one of the best lenses ...

    Here is a snapshot from Industar 61L / D 55-2,8 with a seven-blade diaphragm at an open aperture of 2,8, a HEX-5 camera.

    • Rodion

Try the Industar-26m itself. Due to poor assembly, the I-61 often turns out to be no worse than the 26m. Here Industar-61L rare really showed what the 61st should be.

  • Andrei

    My example, with macro rings.

  • Andrei

    +1

  • Andrei

Industar-61 l / d lens of my childhood. I bought it for $2 and used it as a macro lens to digitize my old films. And then I decided to adapt it for Canon. To do this, I shortened the back of the lens block. Undermined the outer part of the helicoid. I cut off the inner part, left only the thread and fixed it on the lens block. The outer part is attached to the M42-EOS adapter. This is how I got to infinity. Now focusing is achieved by turning the entire lens block (for the front). I installed a regular focus ring for aesthetics. Of course, it is not convenient to set the aperture with such a “pancake”, since the focus may be lost. But, nevertheless, I got the opportunity to use an old lens from my childhood on a digital SLR camera.

  • Andrei

Shortened lens block with helicoid thread

  • Artem

Tell me, does this industrial become a “macro lens” if you put a couple of three macro rings on it? I bought it, put it on an MFT camera through an adapter, I focus and understand that the MDF is somewhere around 1-1.2m, somehow it doesn’t look like a macro)

    • Arkady Shapoval

on mic - yes, only with macro rings

  • Ivan

I bought a lens for 200 UAH. The outer glass has a coating on it, as if it had been wiped with a T-shirt all the years, since ’88. He himself is shaking, loosened like an axle on a cart. I disassembled it, removed the dried grease, reassembled it, although without grease, and wiped the glass with isopropyl alcohol. Focus is induced, as they said, by moving the camera closer - further. 5.6 is my best aperture. But what sharpness. Even with scratched glass. Good…
