Nikon professional cameras have the ability to create presets for each specific photo task or scene. These templates are called shot banks. Usually the camera has 4 banks, the default banks are named 'A, B, C, D'. The name of the bank can be set whatever you want, I don't bother and leave the name unchanged.
Nikon cameras have two types of cansat:
- Shooting menu bank. This bank sets shooting menu options.
- Bank of user settings (Custom). This bank sets user parameters
In different cameras, the implementation of banks includes different settings and different management of the banks themselves, but the essence remains the same.
This is how the control of this function looks
To make it clear why banks are used, I will give an example on my Nikon D700.
В shooting menu banks You can store various basic settings, such as ISO control mode, white balance, image quality and many others. For example, in bank 'A' I store the settings for normal everyday photography: 14 bit RAW quality, Auto WB, Auto ISO, NL mode, etc. Bank 'B' stores settings for macro shooting - JPEG quality, PRE WB, ISO 640, etc. I do not need to switch all parameters separately for a long time and tediously; for this, in the INFO menu, I simply select the shooting bank I need. Actually in the banks of the shooting menu all settings are rememberedwhich can be found in the menu section 'Shooting Mode Menu' (Besides multiple exposures and interval shooting).
And in user settings banks all settings that can be found in the 'User Menu' Settings'. In different banks A, B, C, D, I save different combinations of programming additional function keys, different fine-tuning of the camera. For example, in bank 'A' I have command mode flash control, and in bank 'B' - TTL mode. There are a lot of useful combinations you can think of, and the camera setup becomes pretty damn simple and quick.
Quick access to banks using the Nikon D800 as an example
Attention: the camera automatically records and remembers settings changes for each of the banks. Settings are saved even after turning off the camera.
Here is the exact camera list (for 2014) the year that support the management of settings banks: Nikon D100, D200, D300, D300s, D700, D800,D800E, D810, D1, D1h, D1x, D2h, D2hs, D2x, D2xs, D3, D3s, D3x, D4. By the way, the ability to manage shooting banks clearly distinguishes the amateur segment of Nikon cameras from the professional. In the cameras Nikon D600, D610, D750, D7000, D7100 something similar is implemented in the form of user settings U1, U2.
