Overview I-26m 2,8 / 52

For the opportunity to review lens I-26m 2,8 / 52 Many thanks to Igor Burkov, who sent me a lens from another area.

This is a very small review, made only for general familiarization with the lens. Many people have old cameras with rangefinding Industars lying around at home, at least they can be used for macro shooting on SLR cameras, and on mirrorless cameras they can be used for their intended purpose.

Overview I-26m 2,8 / 52

Overview I-26m 2,8 / 52

I-26m 2,8 / 52 ('I' is an abbreviation for 'Industar') is a standard fixed lens for some rangefinder old Soviet cameras of the Zorkiy and FED brands. The lens is small, lightweight with an uncomplicated optical design for 4 elements in 3 groups of the 'Tessar' type. I-26m is very similar to its brother Industar-26m 1: 2.8 F = 5cm P, lenses differ in a slightly different body and in the quality of enlightenment. I-26m 2,8 / 52 has more convenient focus ring... The 2mm focal length difference is just a matter of lens designation. In all other respects, the lenses are almost identical, therefore I will not describe in detail the I-26m 2,8 / 52 lens, all basic information is available in the review Industar-26m 1: 2.8 F = 5cm P. Here you can only see what the lens itself looks like and some photos taken on the I-26m 2,8 / 52.

Photo without processing. On a SLR camera, the lens works only in macro mode, so all photos are 'far-fetched'.

How to use with modern cameras?

Lenses with an M39 thread (for rangefinder cameras, M39 X 1/28.8), such as the lens from this review, are very easy to use on almost any modern digital camera (both SLR and mirrorless), for this you just need to choose the right adapter (adapter). There is no need to carry out any additional actions to remake the lens. The cheapest adapters can be found at Aliexpress.com.

For mirrorless cameras

  1. SONY: For cameras with 'E'/'FE' mount series SonyNEX и Sony Alpha need here is an adapter M39 -Sony E (aka L39 -Sony Nex).
  2. OLYMPUS / PANASONIC / KODAK / XIAOMI: For cameras with a bayonet mount Micro 4/3 (Micro 4:3) need here is an adapter M39-Micro 4/3.
  3. CANON M: For cameras with Canon EF-M mount need here is such an adapter M39-Canon M.
  4. CANON R and RF-S: For cameras with Canon RF mount need here is such an adapter M39-Canon R.
  5. Nikon 1: For cameras Nikon 1 Series need here is such an adapter M39-Nikon 1.
  6. Nikon Z: For cameras Nikon Z series (FX/DX) needed here is such an adapter M39-Nikon Z.
  7. FUJIFILM X: For cameras with mount X need here is such an adapter M39-Fuji X.
  8. FUJIFILM GFX: For medium format cameras G-mount need here is such an adapter M39-Fuji GFX.
  9. SAMSUNG: NX mount cameras require here is an adapter M39-Samsung NX. There are no adapters for the NX mini camera yet.
  10. SIGMA / PANASONIC / LEICA: For cameras with L mount need here is such an adapter M39-Leica L.
  11. LEICA: For cameras with a bayonet mount Leica M need here is an adapter M39-L / M.

It's important: for SLR cameras, only macro mode is possible (can only shoot at very close focusing distances).

For SLR cameras (macro mode only)

  1. Canon: For cameras Canon EOS with bayonet mount EF / EF-S need here is an adapter M39 -Canon EOS.
  2. NIKON: For cameras Nikon DX / FXas well as for cameras Fujifilm и Kodak with Nikon F mount needed here is such an adapter M39 -Nikon F (some cameras will only work in M-mode).
  3. PENTAX: For Pentax K-mount cameras, you need here is such an adapter M39 -Pentax K.
  4. SONY/MINOLTA: For cameras with a Sony/Minolta A mount, you need here is an adapter M39 -Sony A.
  5. OLYMPUS/PANASONIC/LEICA: For cameras with 4/3 mount (not to be confused with Micro 4/3!) here is an adapter M39 -4/3.

Beautiful lenses in the last photo)))

  • Daria

Arkady, good afternoon! I wrote to you by mail, but you did not answer. There is a Sigma Mini-Wide II 28mm ƒ / 2.8 bayonet lens - Contax / Yashica, won't you be interested in your review?

    • Arkady Shapoval

      Already answered. See mail.

  • Oleg

Arkady. good afternoon. A photo with young chestnut leaves is something! beauty!

  • Paul

I will share my experience with this lens.
I put it on a cropped Nikon through an adapter and two sets of macro rings, the macro came out on a 2: 1 scale, I tested it only at home, now it has warmed up, it's time to put forward for field trials.

    • anonym

Pavel discard the photos taken through a set of macro rings !!!!

  • Alexander

    Is there a thread 39?

    • Arkady Shapoval

      yes, m39

  • Sergei

Arkady, earlier only Nikon cameras were visible in the reviews, now - Canon. What is the reason for this transition? Somehow strange.

    • Arkady Shapoval

I absolutely don't care which technique to test. Each new camera, each new lens is a little test for me. And reviews of other equipment (not Nikon) on Radozhiv have been around for a very long time, which are only Soviet lenses, Zeiss and other optics.

  • Dmitriy

    Hello Arkady!
please tell me what needs to be done so that such a lens starts working on the Nikon d90 camera. I installed it through the adapter ring M39 on M42 and M42 on Nikon with a chip, the focus is completely absent. Thank you.

    • Paul

      Nuances:

When used on SLR cameras, the functionality of the focusing ring of the lens itself is almost lost. This is due to the fact that the lens is very far 'extended' from the matrix or film. Focusing with the focus ring gives a very small effect, for example, when I used Industar-50 1: 3,5 f = 5cm P on the Nikon camera, there was practically no effect from the rotation of the focus ring. It is much easier to use another primitive method of focusing - to move the camera along with the lens towards the subject, thereby changing the focus distance. (C)

Try it, maybe this is the question.

  • Dmitriy

Yes Paul, thank you. I already guessed it myself, I use this method, but the focusing distance is very small. However, it turns out to be an excellent macro !!!! Wonderful glass!

  • Victor

These lenses are well used with mirrorless cameras such as Sony Nex, through appropriate adapters. their working length is small and they do not violate the advantages of compactness of these cameras, and they are copies from a watering can and therefore they are famous for their drawings

  • Novel

    there is a FED 3 apparatus with a 1964907 2,8 / 52 I-26m lens. Maybe someone needs it?

  • anonym

This is the same pancake that is lumpy. The lens is completely unusable for its intended purpose. Therefore, it did not last long and was replaced by the I-61. It has already become possible to use it.

  • Denis

tell me what kind of adapter is needed for this lens for Nikon D3200

  • George +

    there is a device FED 3 with a lens 1522380 2,8 / 52 I-26m. Maybe someone needs it? selling)

It is also possible to exchange for a Wi-Fi usb adapter, offer options georgiaa@i.ua

  • Tanchik

Tell me what kind of adapter is needed for this lens for Nikon D3100

  • Valera

I bought such a lens in the net. Only on it there is no scale other than the diaphragm !!! (can this be ???) The diaphragm rotates but no focusing. I disassembled the bayonet, there is some kind of screw that blocks the focus (unscrewed), but the focus ring still does not spin, the lubricant on the lens is not dried, has a color (yellowish), there is a thread, nothing prevents it from spinning, but I can’t unscrew it !!! They sold it with some kind of black plastic thing, into which the lens was screwed, it seemed to be “sharpened” for a photomagnifier, could this be? It is dull white and except for the diaphragm there are no numbers on it !!!

    • Rodion

There was an I-26m for photo enlargers, so everything is in order.

      • Valera

Can it be converted as a mirrorless lens? Although this is a lens ... at least it is identical with the other I-26M, I-61 ...

      • Valera

Is the I-26m lens for the enlarger able to focus? Or is it my strengths that I don’t have enough to twist the focus ring?

        • Rodion

Xs, disassemble to the end and look. The benefit is simple disassembly.

    • anonym

I have an Industar - 26 M for a photographic enlarger. It differs from the usual only in the absence of any inscriptions, except for the diaphragm numbers. Otherwise, it is exactly the same as the usual I-26M, everything in it turns like all lenses.

    • mAlex

Yes, you bought a lens for a magnifier, however, except for the scales, it is no different from the shooting one.

  • Yana

Good afternoon, tell me, what kind of adapter is needed for the Nikon D 5200 camera and where do they sell them?

    • Michael

Nikon F - М39, as I understand it, if you are asking for this lens.

  • Alexander

Valera, I have the same lens. Only the aperture is marked, and the focus ring does not spin. FED lens. For enlargers, focusing is also needed. I don’t understand what kind of lens it is.

    • Valera

And yet I unscrewed it)) With the help of superhuman efforts. I don't remember the details, but I threw it ...

  • Dmitry Orlov

In principle, during a coup and manual distancing (I use the Olympus E-410, so for those who have a longer working period it will be a little more difficult), you can focus on infinity and how many distant objects you need. I agree, it’s inconvenient, but the bottom line is that it is not only suitable for macro.

  • Vadim Filimonov

Thanks for the story, Arkady! The examples of the photo, although far-fetched, but to find out at what aperture they were shot would be useful for the curious and not lazy.

  • Andrei

I put for interest the I-26m on the Sony A 7II through the FOTGA M42 -nex adapter with a ring of 39.
It shoots in close to macro centimeters mode from about 15-20. Apparently a shorter adapter is needed.

  • Paul

    Hello.

I have this lens and an EOS RP camera.

It seems like on mirrorless it should work fine with preservation of infinity. But I can’t figure out how to put it on the camera without lengthening the working distance, because the R-EF-M42-M39 adapter extends just the length to the same as that of DSLRs.

    Are there any R-M42 adapters?

    • Arkady Shapoval

This requires an M39-EOS R adapter, this.

      • Paul

Well, it’s bad to have a camera that just came out. The price of the adapter is amazing in a bad way.

But thanks, I will at least know that such a thing exists!

        • Arkady Shapoval

The new mount, and the M39 is not a very popular thread, that's expensive. Yes, and on RP I see no reason to put this Hindu :)
