For the ability to review this camera Sony SLT-A65body gratitude to the network of stores "Paparazzi", where you can purchase this camera and other photo equipment - http://www.fotomagazinpaparazzi.ua
I'll start right off the bat - Sony SLT-A65 is excellent, even super great camera. As soon as you take the camera in your hands, the undeniable advantages are immediately evident: a large rotary display, 24MP, video with adequate autofocus and a shooting speed of 10 fps.
Sony SLT-A65 really can shoot with speed ten frames per second. This is simply an outrageous indicator for a cropped SLR camera. For example, I use Nikon and Canon SLR cameras, and if I want to get 10 frames per second, I will have to spend money on very expensive SLR monsters in the face Nikon D3, D3s, D4 or Canon EOS-1D X, 1D Mark III, 1D Mark IV.
To shoot with the Sony A65 at 10 fps, simply select the '10' icon on the control wheel. True, there are still limitations on these very 10 frames per second. When shooting in this mode, it is not always possible to control the aperture / shutter speed. The '10 fps' mode works in a similar way to the 'aperture priority' mode. If you set the focus mode to AF-S, you can control the aperture, and in the focus mode AF-C iris control unavailable, while shooting is always made at the maximum allowable aperture value. In fact, all these limitations are a trifle, 10 fps still fully works and at the same time shooting in RAW, ISO control, and a correction is available. exposure, and even auto focus during this 'machine gun firing'.
True, under such a high shooting speed you need a good frame buffer... The buffer is where pictures are placed before they are written to the memory card. The camera can shoot 13 frames in RAW and 17 frames in JPEG continuously. For example, when I was shooting RAW on a 32GB Team Class 10 SDHC card, the camera stopped after the first second of shooting at 10 fps. High shooting speed is important for dynamic scenes, for example, for shooting sports. The high speed is also very convenient for creating panoramas.
If there is no desire to shoot in a special mode at a speed of 10 fps, then you can use 8 frames per second in any other shooting mode. Sony A65 has these interesting featuresthat reveal the potential for huge rate of fire:
- Create panoramas. It is very convenient to draw a frame and get immediately ready panorama glued from a large number of frames. You can take a panorama with a size of 12416 by 1856 pixels and not spend a lot of time on taking pictures on a computer. This is a damn interesting and useful feature.
- Work in multi-frame noise reduction mode. In this mode, the camera takes 6 frames and, based on them, produces one noiseless picture. The mode works only in P, A, S, M and only with JPEG image quality. To start the mode, just go to one of the modes P, A, S, M, turn on the JPEG quality and select 'ISO multiple times. noise canceling '
- Continuous bracketing exposure. In this mode, the camera takes 3 pictures each. If you are very worried about the exposure, then you can take each individual picture in continuous mode bracketing. Step bracketing You can choose either 0.3ev or 0.7ev.
Also, Sony A65 uses 24MP sensor, you can take pictures of 6000 by 4000 pixels. That's a lot for a cropped camera. Megapixels are not always good, you can read in more detail in the section megapixel battle. The same (or modified) matrix is used in cameras: Sony SLT-A77, Sony NEX-7.
Sony A65 allows you to work on ISO 100-16.000. In automatic ISO mode, the camera itself selects a value from the range 100 1600. By the way, on ISO 25.600, which is claimed to be the limit, can only be shot in multi-frame noise reduction mode. I won't say that the camera boasts good noise levels at high ISOs, but nothing too terrible happens at high ISOs, the range above 6400 is simply 'inflated' and I do not recommend using it.
Of course I missed an important point, Sony SLT-A65 - translucent mirror cameratherefore, when shooting, the mirror does not rise or fall. This allows you to just achieve a huge shooting speed and perform continuous tracking focus when taking photos and shooting videos. The camera does not have an optical viewfinder, but only an electronic one. IN electronic viewfinder you can see just a huge number of different information fields: from the virtual horizon to the battery level. The electronic viewfinder can be configured to work with an electronic magnifier and zoom in 11.7X over the selected part of the image, without having to take your eyes off the viewfinder. This is a very useful feature when working with manual focus lenses. By the way, the camera works wonderfully with unchipped lenses. It is worth getting used to the electronic viewfinder, during the writing of the review, I still could not make good friends with it.
A very important property of the Sony SLT-A65 is video recording Full HD 1920X1080 60p AVCHD or MP4 with 1440X1080 30p. Unlike amateur SLR cameras Nikon and Canon, the Sony SLT-A65 has adequate fast auto focus when shooting video. When shooting video, the camera focuses very quickly and does not tilt the lens back and forth, as conventional SLR cameras do. I was very pleasantly surprised by the Sony SLT-A65. Video can also be recorded through an electronic optical viewfinder, ordinary SLR cameras do not know how. During video recording, you can change the ISO and make adjustments exposure. True, the maximum ISO for video is only 1600, the rest cannot be selected. Another important note for video is the fact that if you want to control shutter speed and aperture manually when shooting a video, you will have to turn off auto focus, in any other way. With auto focus, video is recorded only with software control exposure.
The sensor is responsible for focusing on 15 focus points, 3 of which are cruciform. You can customize the focus system to your liking. Measurement exposure implemented by a 1200-zone sensor.
Some features:
- Automatic ISO is always available only in the range of 100-1600.
- The camera has a sensor cleaning system that can be 'heard' as it operates.
- Minimum excerpt is 1/4000 second
- Auto mode does not work in M mode.
- To control aperture either shutter speed when shooting a video, you need to turn off the automatic focus on the lens
- The camera has a very good face detection sensor near the electronic viewfinder. The camera switches very well between the display and the viewfinder.
- When turned off, the camera 'thinks' a little, and then itself focuses the lens to infinity.
- The camera can automatically correct vignetting, chromatic aberrationdistortion. This is a very useful thing. You can configure fixes for each item individually. I recommend enabling all features.
- Two buttons can be programmed: the AEL button and the ISO button to the desired values.
- A bunch of other useful functions and subfunctions. I just physically cannot describe them all, if you know any more fineness when working with Sony SLT-A65, add them to comments to this review.
The Sony SLT-A65 camera is very easy to use, it is very pleasant to work with a rotary 3-inch display with 921,600 pixels. Of course, Sony SLT-A65 Made in Japan. Ergonomics on the level.
Personal impressions:
I liked the Sony SLT-A65 very much, but I can't get used to the electronic viewfinder, I like the good old optical viewfinder on my regular DSLR cameras much better. As the author of Radozhiva, a lot of questions come to me about choosing a camera for photo and video. Usually people ask for Nikon, Canon, Pentax SLR cameras, but all amateur and professional SLR cameras of these brands perform much worse with autofocus when shooting video. Also, they do not have a single amateur camera that can shoot 10 fps. Marketing dictates its own rules, and if it goes further, then Sony will go much further ahead than Nikon, Canon and Pentax. More examples of photos on Sony SLT-A65 can be found in Sony DT 3.5-5.6 / 18-55 SAM review и Minolta AF Macro Zoom 3x-1x 1: 1,7 (16) -2,8.

In comments Can I ask you a question on the topic and you will answer, and you can also express your opinion or describe your experience. Many little things for a photo can be found on AliExpress.
Conclusions:
Sony SLT-A65 - great amateur camera With good image and video quality, autofocus when shooting video works just fine. The camera can shoot at 10 frames per second, has a rotary 3-inch display and many nice and useful features. I’ll add from myself that the technology of the translucent mirror, which is used in the Sony SLT-A65, greatly outperforms its capabilities some features on ordinary SLR cameras.

65 is good and 77 is much better
I have a99, it is even better
I disagree about the viewfinder. The viewfinder is needed in order to “frame”, and not have a better picture in comparison with the natural one. In addition, on the “electronic” viewfinder, you see what you get, and not how the subject looks “live” ”. I used to shoot on film - well, I saw the subject “as natural” through the mirror, but when the film is developed - it becomes visible - that everything is worse than in nature - the wrong exposure. And in digital there is also an incorrect white balance, in addition - I do not often need what would be in the photo as in life - I need - what would be more beautiful. A mirror is the past and superfluous. A stationary mirror is a progress compared to a mechanical one. mirror, and now - the same atavism. Sony's mirrors with a fixed mirror - allow you to install inexpensive lenses on it without a stub, screwdriver, good, stub there on the matrix - that is, put it from Zenith - everything will be sharp. Sony's cameras simply killed the sub-mirrors of Nikon and Kenon in all respects. One video is worth a lot, but a photo - yes, you can't distinguish it in quality, but on Sony you can immediately see what the frame will turn out to be, and you can shoot right away - well, what to do with the raves - put the correct exposure right away. + Sony has the best matrices, and the price is fully justified. Everything is IMHO.
only the battery eats heavily
This battery was given to you. I never put a battery down on a real shoot (amateur). I have a battery to sit at home - I learn to shoot in a room, or I just take pictures in a room, I look, then I immediately delete these photos - because I want to shoot - and there is no time and there is nothing - I work, the weather is bad.
The problem is simply solved - aliexpress, buy a couple more batteries for 1,5tr - and close this question. I always laugh - when people write that the camera can take "only" 300-400 pictures. Where are the places, weather, scenes where you can take 400 shots. Of course, if you don't press stupidly on the shutter button.
Take a report from sporting events and realize that 400 photos is far from the limit. In addition to the battery press, also take the cards ’menu).
Do many pros shoot with APS? And how long does it take to replace the battery, card? It's all far-fetched - marketing. You can easily put AA batteries in the grip of any camera - or simple batteries with a larger capacity - but then the company will lose the gain from selling batteries. You can make 2 (3) slots for memory cards. You can make a “perfect” mirrorless camera for a long time - but the manufacturer makes cameras to earn more, and not for something that would be cheap and good. A mirror is an atavism, it is not a DSLR or a mirrorless camera that shoots, but a photographer. Many snobs shot on film for a long time and were proud of it - like, he is a real photographer!: D - and now? Many have said for a long time that many megapixels (more than 6-10) are bad. And now? You can't stop progress. How many people will be able to determine what was shot with a DSLR and what with a modern soap dish? Yes, “viewers” do not look at noises and so on at all - they look at the plot and the “beauty” of the photo. How and through what the photographer looked at the subject being shot - they deeply do not care. The “best” photos of mine - I took them on my phone and a soap dish - because they are easy to fit in my pocket and they are always with me. There the plot is beautiful and interesting, and noises and bokeh are for photo snaps. Who I am myself (I love twirling twigs on cameras!) - to some extent!: D
Of the relatively recent cameras, 7d mk2 and d500 can be noted, which the pros do not disdain. At 10 fps, which is quite normal for dynamic scenes. Tenacious autofocus with good dot coverage. Yes, and the built-in teleconverter in the form of a crop factor. That is, 70-200 is already 105-300 or 112-320. Cool after all!
Little time is needed, but the moment may be missed. The more complex the system, the greater the chance of failure. For example, they forgot to charge the 4th battery. The block is also a thing for lovers. I have one on one, and I don’t want on the second.
About the fact that masterpieces are filmed on a soap dish is an old song about the main thing. Everyone talks about them, but no one has seen)
I have a Sony A77. According to all reviews, etc., etc., Akum should hold only about 450-500 frames.
Over the winter, several times filmed skiing competitions. In the cold. About 2000 frames per day. One Akum planted completely, the second has about 40%.
Photo walks with girls, hyperlaps - the camera never died after 450 frames. I kept both my own and an analog for a thousand.
These are test results. They mean using a flash, etc. On mirrors, you can also click more than 1000 without flash, stabilization, turning on the main display, etc.
optical viewfinders in canons and nikons \ DSLRs \ are good. only manually focusing on people with poor eyesight and with good eyesight is torture. well, perhaps in 1d ... with the help of focusing screens, they decided something. but the Sony company took care, so much so that it certainly climbed to third place in sales ...
I did not write that I shot the masterpiece with a soap dish or a phone. I took OWN best photos on them, which are not filmed on my camera with an aps matrix, which has many times the best parameters. I do not shoot reports from matches and from receptions of aligarchs, presidents - Sony cameras with a fixed mirror, I repeat, -Just killed the sub-mirrors of aps nikon and kenon - combined. I'm not talking about Sony mirrorless cameras - there are generally seams! Sony clearly calculated with cameras with a fixed mirror - hybrid focusing, phase focusing on the video, a "screwdriver", a stub on the matrix. In fact, it is a mirrorless, but in order not to lose a market segment - here's a DSLR that doesn't flap a mirror, but there is a mirror, it's a DSLR - “like all normal boys”!
Well, there are also cheaper junior Sony cameras with a fixed mirror - and slightly different (in photo quality) from more expensive and new models, and besides with better characteristics than those of N and K (where Sony's marketers artificially cut the possibilities and lit models by niches and price) - which have little effect on practical shooting and quality for most amateurs. 99,99% of photographers don't have any masterpieces, do at least 20 fps - like Nikon 1 (+ frames taken before pressing the shutter) or on a camera with a medium format matrix - there will be no masterpieces from this. I have nothing against DSLRs - the main thing is that there would be pleasure from shooting - it (pleasure) just depends on the type of camera, its appearance. Cameras reached a reasonable quality already 5-7 years ago.
For sucker and stump girlfriend!
right comrades, the pleasure depends on the type of camera and its external \ not withered \ appearance. and here I am about creativity, etc. .. Yes, actually? I was bullshit?
Not everyone in the world is a creator. The vast majority of craftsmen in any business.
Most of the majority are, in principle, incapable of creativity, and the rest are simply lazy.
When I was taking 10x15 cm photographs, I was once very surprised that many landscape and similar ones without blurring the background from a cell phone look much more attractive than those taken from a DSLR. But it's inconvenient to take pictures with a phone. So I bought an old point-and-shoot camera for taking pictures like this, which fits in my shirt pocket.
Sorry for maybe an amateurish question - but does the tracking AF in the video work with old lenses (minolta, etc.)?
Working. Only the motor is noisy.
Hello
Maybe not quite on the topic
Prompt
Now on sale sony a68
She interested me in the price and the ability to work with optics of the minolta.
68 on the shelves there is no current on order
That is, the touch will not work
Looking at 77m2 no questions
And with 68 just the opposite they are
The fact that there is no review at least in Russian is generally very few videos on the Internet
Since I'm not a rich man, I will buy a camera for many years
Would take extra money took 77m2 and did not worry
Is it worth fearing the deishivism of the plastic baenet case and the general small public interest in the camera
Or fears are not in vain
And it’s better to eat less but buy 77m2?
It’s better to take a normal camera right away.
Of course, it’s very disappointing that Sonya awarded a good series earlier with a cheap plastic mount. It's ugly that they are.
If you mount heavy zooms like 24-70 / 2.8 or 70-200 / 2.8 or something bright like 35 / 1.4, then I would be unpleasant to think about the reliability of the mount, each time when mounting and removing glass on the camera. Feelings are definitely not pleasant.
There is such a review in Russian:
http://www.alphatraveller.org/archives/508
Good afternoon.
The question is more about the choice of system. I recommend nevertheless the Canon system, for you have already encountered that there is almost no information base for the same a68. Also, I would not focus on old Minolt lenses, they are very old and will not be suitable for future development.
Thank you very much
Hello Arkady!
A belated answer to your remark, but I still want to answer that you shouldn't speak badly about the old Minolt lenses. When I picked up these old lenses, sent from sellers from Japan to ebay, I was amazed at their condition - as new (there is practically no dust inside), given their real glass and high-quality metal case, and even the price for 60- 100 dollars, then doubts about purchasing such “old” lenses disappear immediately.
I looked at my photos, taken 2 years ago by my Sony A65 with the Minolta MAXXUM AF ZOOM 70-210mm f / 4 lens (the famous “beer can”), I was even more surprised (I see a beautiful one, as it seems to me, after some time) the quality photos (sharpness, color, bokeh, etc.), which I, as an amateur, turned out. I believe that the old Minolt lenses are for taking pleasure in the process of photographing, and then for contemplating the masterpieces of photography obtained by any photographer, be it a professional or an amateur. These old lenses (honored models only) will delight any photographer with the result they get. It is not without reason that Minoltov's photographic equipment was used by high-class professionals back in the days of film.
Good afternoon, tell me by noise which camera is better than 580 or 65?
I mean, where are the more noise? Both are good, noisy, grainy.
I bought myself a77 with a range of 160k. Attracted by the price. The built-in flash died immediately: (it looks like a capacitor, since the flash charging indication is always blinking). But the rest has been working all year and no problem. Excellent display and viewfinder. Focus picking. Sonya's raves with such a matrix weigh 25MB each. If you shoot at high iso I recommend shooting in raw + jpg. Then you can see who is better at suppressing noise - your rou converter with dances or the software built into the camera. A kind of insurance.
Bottom line: real pluses - a viewfinder on a rotary display, speed, video autofocus, cheap Minoltov optics will melt, durability (due to a fixed mirror).
Cons: a lot of pixels require good optics and make more noise, a shoe on the flash of the minolt-sony,
I have been working in asdsee for the last version-10pro for years, downloaded it in mediaget / previously tried light rooms and photoshop-guzzle life time. acdsee is very simple, fast and has excellent noise reduction and separate work with rams. .u Nikon and canon have other noises and very puppet faces and noodles are obtained in landscapes 100% cropped
Tell me how to clean the matrix on such a camera? Too much conflicting information on the net. There is an automatic mode
Tell me how to clean the matrix on such a camera? Too much conflicting information on the net. There is an automatic cleaning mode, but it is not enough. What kind of fluid and tools do you use? Do I need to put the camera in some mode? It seemed to me that it was not necessary, since this mode is needed to raise the mirror inside the camera, and in this camera the mirror is motionless. Thanks in advance for your answers.
I use the matrix cleaning kit Lenspen SensorKlear Loupe Kit + matrix mops + matrix liquid for cleaning the matrix, it’s convenient and everything is very clearly visible. But if you are not confident in your abilities, hand it over to a service center.
It’s very simple to manually clean the matrix from any Sony SLR camera: turn off the camera, remove the lens from it, press the latch holding the translucent mirror, and the mirror itself will rise up and open the camera’s matrix for cleaning, then blow off the remaining ones on the matrix after it automatically dusted, if it doesn’t help (some dust particles remain), then you can carefully remove them from the matrix with a small clean brush to clean the optics, the main thing is to do this very carefully so as not to damage the camera’s matrix, the camera itself The rat should be turned down with a bayonet mount. If there is frank dirt on the matrix, as I did once, when I accidentally dropped the camera while replacing the lens directly on the swamp and when it fell, the mirror on the camera rose and there were drops of dirty water on the matrix, then you can remove this dirt with a regular towel moistened with a spray cleaning optics.
By the way, I want to share: dirt on the matrix is very dangerous when shooting a video for a long time, due to the strong heating of the matrix, dust particles are sintered with the matrix and ... expensive repairs in the service, inexpedient at current prices on the secondary. repair does not get cheaper.
I have two questions about this camera. 1) how many bits does this camera have 12,14,16? 2) How compatible are Nikon lenses with the Sony system and adapter with this camera?
1) 12 bit
2) not compatible
Even through the adapter?
Even through the adapter. Moreover, the adapter is only with a lens, which will degrade image quality. Moreover, all such adapters are expensive and at the same time all manual (there will be no AF or stabilizer). You are just trying to put a mirror lens from one camera to another SLR camera. If it were Sony with E mount, then the question would be much simpler. This is a bad idea for Nikon F lenses on Sony A to use.
Thank you for the clarification.
An excellent device, I bought not long ago with a kit 18-55 lens with a range of 600 frames ... With a kit 18-55 lens, good and sharp photos are obtained in sunny weather at 50mm FR. Can I get such a whale? Now I installed Tamron 28-200, and of course on the glass is dark at the long end, but not catastrophic, the photos are excellent. The device itself is very pleasant, reliable constructive, richly equipped. Today I bought Helios 44M-6SM 58mm and Mir 1V + adapter with a chip, I will try.
And what about the weather? How does it affect the sharpness and "goodness" of the frame. The dark lenses are full of the highest class. What is the point?
There are several questions for the author of the article. Now I have a Sony NEX-5R, and everything would be fine, but I would like a stub on the matrix, 24MP, and something better in terms of noise ... Stub on the matrix means Sony again, and possibly A65 or A77. In terms of noise - probably still Nikon D5300 ... By the way, a question - you said that the 5300 was the quietest camera at that time ... And different tests show that the 3300 makes even less noise ... What can you say about this? My question is getting somewhat confusing. The fact is that I have 20 pieces of manual lenses, Helios, Industara, Canon FD (zooms 3,8 and 4), Minolta MD (zoom 3,9 and fifty dollars 1,7). All of them work fine on the Nex-5R, but there is no stub and not enough megapixels for the subsequent crop. On the A65, I can fully screw only Helios and some Industars and lose in noise, on Nikon - even less and again without a stub, but I will gain a little in noise, but on the A65 I will get a stabilizer ... I don't know what to choose. Good lenses, but shooting at shutter speeds over 400 and not breathing is not always acceptable. Or maybe theirs ...? I would like to hear advice from those who are much more experienced than me. I shoot mainly children, nature, all sorts of macro-leaves, droplets, grass, just portraits. I'm not going to sell the 5R yet, and I'm thinking, maybe I just buy him something like SEL 55-210 ...? But it seems to me that the focusing of the A65 will be faster, and that of the A77 even faster ... Unfortunately, the budget is limited, otherwise I would not ask :)
I would stay until 5R. If you change, then already on Sony a7 II, the stub and the full frame will give a real tangible increase in working ISO.
Thanks for the answer. I was planning A7 II in the near future. But so far we are not talking about a replacement, but about another inexpensive camera. I really like the nature of Nikon's shots, this is the main problem of choice, because "theoretically" I still tend to a65. And I immediately understand that I will not get anything fundamentally new. And in this sense, your advice is absolutely accurate. I understand with my mind, but my soul still wants something :) Okay, I'll think. Thanks again for the advice!
Who knows, tell me, does the Sony A-58 use the same or a different matrix?
different, this can be seen from the resolution: the A58 has 20MP, and the A65 has 24MP
Does this camera have "Auto Focus Adjustment"? And is it even on SLT cameras?
As far as I know, there is no A65, but A77, A77 II, A99, A99 II have this adjustment
An excellent device A65 and even now quite successfully competes with modern devices, Alphas from A 100 to A 900, A 65, A 77 passed through my hands and none of the cameras let me down. … It is a pity that this type of cameras will no longer be produced.
A mileage of 45000 frames is far from the limit for this camera….
Bargain ... the whale is not the best.
although SAM II lens (modified).
Video recording or not? I can't find information anywhere.
He writes.
Tell me please,
How do Sony SLT cameras compensate for the portion of light that is diverted from the sensor to the focusing system? After all, as far as I understand, 30% of the light is reflected from a translucent mirror and only 70% reaches the matrix. Logically, the pictures should be dark and underexposed. But this does not happen, the pictures are no worse than from Canon or Nikon DSLRs. What is the secret, the physics of the process? Thank you
The metering is based on the exposure that hits the metering sensor, and not on the mirror.
I have a question about the working ISO. Today I tried to take pictures of the birds, it was already twilight, so I set it to auto ISO. The camera took photos at ISO 1600. The result is completely unacceptable. Not only are there no birds visible, but even the sky is all grainy and noisy. I used to have an A68 - a wonderful camera, although I mainly took pictures with it at home with flash, i.e. at ISO 160 or something like that. Therefore, I would like to know at what ISO values the A65 produces a decent picture.
For most crop cameras (except Fujifilm X-T3, X-Pro3, X-T4, etc. at 26 MP, as well as Pentax K3 on the same matrix), ISO1600 is problematic or close to it. Here you can either look at Fuji with 26MP BSi matrices, or at the Sony cropped bzk a6000 series and higher.
Thanks for the answer, but the a6000 costs much more. Moreover, my lens for Sony-A is heavy, 1.5 kg, so I don’t want to attach an adapter to it. I wanted to try this camera for photographing animals with a 400mm lens. It’s just that if ISO 1600 is not suitable, then it turns out that the auto-ISO function cannot be used...
You see, a lot depends on the lighting. With good lighting, but a fairly short shutter speed, the result at 6400 may be satisfactory, but if, on the contrary, it is not good enough, and at 800 it may be unacceptable. Here only you can answer this question yourself, taking into account YOUR scenes and YOUR attitude towards noise in the photo.
I will support
Today I tried to take photos at ISO 800 at home ;)
Yes, unfortunately, with zoo animals it is quite difficult to find good lighting. Probably this camera is still not suitable for my plan.
