For the opportunity Nikon D600 body review many thanks to Ivan Berdnik.
Nikon D600 is the first full-length amateur Nikon digital SLR camera. Prior to this, all full-frame CZK belonged only to a professional level. Nikon D600 is 'Full Frame to the Masses!'. The difference between the size of the matrix for type cameras APS-C Nikon DX and the size of the matrix for type cameras APS Nikon FXwhich the Nikon D600 belongs to is approximately 2.25 times. And believe me, in many cases matrix size really matters. True, a full-format camera requires only Fx lenses.
The Nikon D600 has a 24,3MP sensor. This is a good indicator for a full-frame camera, I believe that about 20MP for full-frame cameras is quite enough for almost any photo task, and for those who need to print posters there are monsters. Nikon D800, Nikon D800E and digital backs. If you are a miser and count all the pixels in the resulting image from the Nikon D600, then you can count 24.160.256 pixels, which allows you to reproduce a photo of 6016 by 4016 pixels.
In the spring of 2013, Nikon already has 5 cameras with 24MP and two cameras with 36MP.
- Nikon D3X - 24.38.553 pixels
- Nikon D600 - 24.160.256 pixels
- Nikon D3200 - 24.064.000 pixels
- Nikon D5200 - 24.000.000 pixels
- Nikon D7100 - 24.000.000 pixels
Before the release of the D600, only the Nikon D24x had a full-frame 3MP sensor, which, by the way, is already damn old, but the price of which does not fall at all. For me, the number of megapixels is practically not important. Personally, I’m even offended that manufacturers are increasing their number, and the noise level at high ISOs remains practically unchanged. Megapixels are not always as good as marketers assure, you can read more details in the section Battle of Megapixels.
Nikon D600 can work on ISO 100 to 6400 units and expand the value to Lo1 (equivalent ISO 50) and up to Hi2 (equivalent ISO 25.600) Here is the original example on ISO 6400 (noise reduction function is on). It's a sin to complain about the performance of the Nikon D600 at high ISO. The D600 has a lower level and a slightly different type of noise than my old lady Nikon D700.
With noise levels at high ISOs, the Nikon D600 is fine. True sorry that the Nikon D600, D800 and D800E have an ISO 6400 ceiling, older cameras could work at this value Nikon D700 и D3... It turns out that the pixels were added to the new cameras, but the ISO was forgotten. Only two models remain more efficient cameras in terms of high ISO for 2013 - Nikon D3s и D4that have a ceiling of ISO 12.800.
Nikon D600 uses the updated Nikon Multi-CAM 4800 focus sensor, this is an upgraded Nikon Multi-CAM 4800DX sensor, which can be found in Nikon D7000 и D5200. The camera uses 39 focus points, 9 of which are cruciforms. Unlike Nikon D7000 The new D600 can work with lenses with aperture up to F / 8.0. In practice, this means that the Nikon D600 focuses better in poor lighting conditions than D7000, D5200. I really don't like small viewfinder coverage with focus points. All the focus points of the Nikon D600 are in the center, which is not surprising, because here is just a modified focus system from a cropped camera. You can see more details about focus modules and their comparison here.
Many users have a choice between three Nikon D600 cameras, D700, D800 (E), such a plate may clarify the choice a bit:

For myself, I see no reason to switch from Nikon D700 on Nikon D600. Some may need video in the D600 and slightly more RAW processing due to better DD and lower noise. If the choice is the first full-frame camera, then, in my opinion, the D600 is an excellent option. When it comes to dynamic range, color depth, etc. in modern full-length cameras, I advise you to look here.
Despite the fact that the Nikon D600 camera has as much as 24 MP, with any RAW quality setting frame buffer, puts 15 frames in FX mode, 22 frames in DX mode. If you shoot in JPEG and turn off all the additional functions of software image enhancement, then 28 JPEG L frames in FX mode and 46 frames in DX mode are placed in the buffer. The buffer readings are just great for an amateur camera. The only negative is the inability to use a RAW file without compression. RAW is available with 12 or 14 bit color depth and with conventional or lossless compression.
The maximum shooting speed in any mode (with and without a booster) is 5.5 frames per second. This is enough for any type of shooting, it may not be enough for reporting, but the D600 is not a reporting camera.
The Nikon D600 has a nice viewfinder with 100% lens field of view and 0.7x magnification. It was pleasant enough for me to work with such a viewfinder, it is much more for the 'peephole' of amateur cameras like Nikon D3200, D40. In general, it is very pleasant to work with the camera. Settings and buttons are not very different from Nikon D7000. Dealing with the camera is not difficult.
Nikon D600 has a built-in focus motor, you can use any lens without a focus motor, for example, such inexpensive legendary lenses as Nikon 85mm F1.8D AF Nikkor и Nikon 70-210 F4 Nikkor.
From the pleasant moments in the Nikon D600:
- Measurement exposure performed using 2016 pixel like u D7000, D7100, D5200. About measurement exposure can read here.
- Function auto ISO works very well, the camera can automatically adjust the desired shutter speed depending on the installed lens.
- Two locks on the camera control wheel. This is very convenient, it really helps to avoid accidentally changing the shooting mode. I really missed such a thing on my old Nikon D90.
- Full HD video 1.920 x 1.080 30p, recorded in MOV format with the H.264 codec. Attention, sound recording is performed using a monaural microphone. You can buy an external stereo microphone for the camera. Video has a common problem with auto focus quality. Also, the Nikon D600 is not able to control the aperture value when shooting video. If full control over all the parameters when shooting movies is important, then you will have to look to the side Nikon D800.
- Support for older lenses AI-S type and any other lenses that can only be mounted on the camera.
- Two memory card slots SD (SDHC, SDXC, UHS-I). You can set up various methods of working with cards as your heart desires.
- System for cleaning the matrix from dust.
- Nikon D600 supports remote control of external flash units. I am a big fan of the system Nikon CLS
- Of course, the Nikon D600 supports high-speed 'FP' sync with external flash units. By the way, if you are looking for an extra flash, here my recommendations.
- A large 3.2-inch display, however, recently the number of dots in the new Nikon cameras has not changed and remains equal to 921,000. The display is the same as Nikon D800,D800E, D4.
- The case is half made of magnesium alloy, very similar to the case Nikon D7000.
- The camera has an additional monochrome display with which it is very convenient to control the camera and change the basic settings.
- USB, HDMI, Microphone in, 3.5mm headphone jack
- Battery EN-EL15, same as Nikon D7000, D7100, D800, D800E. Holds a charge well.
- Programmable buttons U1 and U2, which can be configured for different tasks.
- The camera supports automatic vignetting correction.
- Electronic level.
- Active D-lighting, bracketing exposure, ADL bracketing, bracketing white balance and HDR function
- Fine tune focus
What I did not like:
- The center button is not programmable for instant zoom. After Nikon D700 Without this feature, I’m extremely uncomfortable working with the Nikon D600. It seemed a trifle, but it seriously ruined my nerves.
- Not the entire body is made of an alloy of metals. The front part is made of polycarbonate.
- Minimum excerpt 1/4000 s shutter Many inflate with '1/4000s' great trouble. But it’s not so scary, for example, Nikon D600 can dose using ISO 50 (Lo 1) and 1/4000 seconds as much light as Nikon D3S at ISO 100 (Lo 1) and 1/8000 seconds. By the way D1H can work with shutter speed in 1 / 16.000 seconds:).
- When shooting video, you cannot control the aperture value. So far only Nikon D4, D800, D800E can afford full control when shooting video.
Personal experience
Nikon D600 is not so small and light as many people write about it. The camera is much larger than crumbs like D5100 or D3200. In general, the Nikon D600 is an excellent amateur camera, it is a pity that the Nikon D600 does not use 51 focus points as on older Nikon cameras, it is also a pity that not all of the camera body is made of metal alloy. But, of course, for that kind of money just cannot get a copy Nikon D4 in the housing from Nikon D7000 :). And Nikon added fuel to the fire, which covers a person’s head when choosing a camera. To new Nikon D7100 installed the updated module at 51 focus points, now many will puzzle over what to buy - Nikon D7100 or Nikon D600. I am often asked to indicate approximate prices for a particular photo equipment, Nikon D600 is still the cheapest Nikon full-format CZK:
By the way, I personally wonder what is better when working with poor lighting, the updated focus module on the Nikon D600 or the good old module on Nikon D700, D3, D3s, D300, D300s. Personally, I am more inclined to the latter. During the time that I had the D600, I did not feel any serious differences in focusing accuracy when working with high-aperture optics. You can leave your ideas in the comments.
A popular resource for comparing cameras snapsort gave the Nikon D600 the maximum number of points - 100 out of 100. Attention: they say that the Nikon D600 has serious problems with the contamination of the matrix (video problem review) Most likely for this reason, on October 8.10.2013, XNUMX, Nikon released a new camera. Nikon D610 to replace the D600, in order to remove the poor reputation of the latter due to problems with the contamination of the matrix.

Conclusions
Nikon D600 - very good amateur full frame cameraYou can easily get normal quality photos without external flash in poor light conditions. Perfect for advanced amateurs and professionals. And even for beginners in the camera it will be easier to understand. I recommend.
Material prepared Arkady Shapoval.
Do not bother so much, if there is a defect, it can be corrected, and if there is no desire to face troubles - buy d610, and all business then ...
Nikon replaces some Nikon D600 cameras with Nikon D610
http://vmirefoto.blogspot.ca/2014/01/nikon-nikon-d600-nikon-d610.html
Personally, I do not intend to take risks, after Nikon d7000 I will take d610
It so happened that the camera fell into the water, at that time it was turned on and still working. we put it to dry and then couldn’t turn it on, what do you think, how much will the repair cost?
US law firm collects Nikon D600 owners / buyers complaints about a problem with dust on the sensor / matrix to open a case

can they force Nikon to make an official recall of all D600?
The focus trap does not work on the d600, maybe this will be fixed in firmware updates
How doesn’t work ?! Looks like I figured it out poorly !!!

For owners of nikon d800, d600, d4. This function, alas, does not work. I wrote a request in nikon, this is what they answered:
Regarding the situation you described.
Yes, this situation is known -
the shutter is still released when you press the shutter button, even when the subject is out of focus (in the situation you described, autofocus when using the AF-ON option displayed on the Fn button). The settings for AF-S focus priority.
This situation also occurs if you set autofocus via the Controls menu for the AE-L button; with AF-S settings, focus priority.
The situation is normal.
Thus, the cameras D600, D4, D800 are designed.
D3s and D700 cameras work differently.
As our European Department explained, this innovation was made according to the feedback of photographers.
We regret if this circumstance caused inconvenience.
I bought my d800 + nikor 24-70, the second photo is d610 + sigma 35 mm 1.4 art - well, sooooo happy with both the photo and the glass!
I would like to know if to use manual optics or versions D by putting them into manual mode .. is it possible to control the diaphragm or does the camera still block it in video mode?
Guys, who from Ukraine already gave their D600 for a free shutter replacement and matrix cleaning? I found out here http://www.ravis.kiev.ua/rav/page6.html (AC), they said we will bring you a replacement, there seem to be spare parts in the warehouse! It takes 3-5 days !!! If there are no spare parts in stock, we will order, but you will need to wait 2-3 weeks !!!
Does the manufacturer play an important role? Please tell the amateur.
Of course! When buying a Nikon DSLR, be sure to see it made by Canon!
Good day !!!
A year ago, he acquired a Nikon D600 and a Nikon AF Nikkor 24-85mm 1: 2.8-4D IF lens.
Prior to that, I shot on a soap dish SONY DSH-2. I processed all the photos in the editor.
I really like the increased sharpness on the main subject. On Nikon AF Nikkor 24-85mm 1: 2.8-4D IF, I’m disastrously lacking it, I have to finalize it again in the editor.
Question: will the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 600mm 50: 1G SWM Aspherical cope with this problem on the D1.8 (the price and the description of the lens in your articles are fine). Since the camera is a motor, you may not have to overpay and take the Nikon 50mm f / 1.8D AF Nikkor. But the main thing is quality and sharpness !!!
I mainly shoot landscapes and portraits in nature. Zoom with your feet doesn’t bother. Maybe suggest something else?
Thank you in advance !!!
Nikon AF-S Nikkor 50mm 1: 1.8G is a very sharp lens, one minus is HA, but not strong, if you need a really high-quality figure, take 70-200 2,8 of the second version, a very good lens.
Good evening everyone! Colegs, tell me this question: there is d5100. His photos are very good. I am starting to engage in photography more than amateurish. The essence of the question: is there any point in changing to d610 and is there a difference in the processing of equal formats. Only this question is interesting. A big request to write the answer of those photographers who have practice on these devices and not analyzing the rumors heard on the forums. Thanks in advance!
I have a D600, I can tell you with confidence that if you are seriously engaged in photography, then this carcass with a full frame will give you the following:
1) Wider dynamic range. In frames where there is a high contrast of light, more details will be preserved, as well as in the rav-converter, there are more chances to draw something from overexposures and deep shadows.
2) The ability to shoot at higher ISO. I have the very first D5100 carcass, the shooting there ended after 2000, because then the picture fell apart and the noise was color. Here I make a limitation of 4000, the noise is not colored, the grain is somewhat reminiscent of film.
3) Ergonomics. There are many buttons for controlling shooting parameters on the case, and not in the menu, like the D5100. Ergonomics of course differs from the Nikon prof series, but it is much more convenient than climbing through the on-screen menu. Also, the presence of a second screen and a more contrast display will allow you to feel the advantage.
4) Great shooting opportunities. There was a customizable CL high-speed shooting mode, a MUP mirror pre-shooting mode, the ability to fine-tune white balance (down to Kelvin), a virtual horizon, support for FR high-speed sync mode and Nikon CLS external flash remote control system, much more.
5) I could be wrong, but a sharper image. I bought Nikon 24-70 f2.8 right away and it turned out to be sharper even on the open than the D5100 and Nikon 35 f1.8 fix.
These are the conclusions I made on the basis of operation.
Thank you!
Guys, unfortunately the myth about butter, in my case, is not a myth. The oil appeared, even up to 3 thousand shots. I noticed it when shooting landscapes in the sky at F8. This is bad news. I thought it was the machinations of enemies, but ... There is good news. On the website of the Nikon company, they wrote about the unquestioning acceptance of cameras for cleaning the matrix. I had to go to replace. Pleasantly pleased with the terms of the "purge" -. But what surprised me most of all was that, in fact, they did not clean the matrix, but replace it, as well as replace the entire shutter! This news was for me! It's amazing how much money Nikon lost on such a service replacement, but in the end I didn't lose a dime. And most importantly - no oil stains! If anyone is interested, I can send you a photo of oil stains and a scan of the replacement certificate. One thing I do not understand: why would Nikon waste so much money on such expensive shortcomings! I took it for 54 tr. with an official guarantee (and it is 4 years) with a lens 24-70. The technique itself is super!
It is cheaper for Nikon to replace the shutter / clean the matrix than to refund your money for a new device, having accepted it from you already used ... Moreover, not all the oil will be noticed, not everyone will apply, someone will clean it himself ...
guys, let's get some garlic. d600, d610, 750 x..ya, fuck ... her ..
You can list their pros, cons .., but all this is relative.
as there was oil ... and the more you take off, the more, more and more !!!!!!!!!!!
I have 610 !!!!!!!!!!! DO NOT BUY!!!!!!!!! HU ... HEY !!!
Write to the mail: dexer_boy@mail.ru I will send pictures at aperture 7-14 .. (air show in the open sky), the matrix is completely fucked up !!!!!!!!! all bl..t !!!! Nikon 600-610-750 hui..t..en full ... the camera is 4 months old ... developed by NIKON pido ... races - throw out 65.000 rubles and admire the muddy oil halos? Bl..di and scammers !!! Ban me, delete me, Nikonists should know the truth .. The problem was, is, and no one is working on it !!!
Took 610 3 months ago: after d7K is good, no words. Good in everything !!! Another level !!! FX is not just a stage, it is the era of photography ... BUT !!! 2,8, 3,5, -5,6 are more than worthy. Already at 7,1, the wafer begins to crawl out from the matrix in the form of oil drops ..
Yes, it can be removed programmatically ... but it's a bitch, a jamb !!!!!!!!!!!! from which you will not get away !!!!
I repeat d610 - the problem is not fixed !!! write to the mail I will prove it !!!
For rudeness sent to hug Ray.
Sory, Arkady for censorship)) is boiling simply)) the device is actually gorgeous. But after the acquisition, 16-35 he began to shoot on a covered diaphragm, and these artifacts popped up began to strain.
Hello. What do you think on Alibaba, Nikon 610 for 700 ye is not scary to take
Before you go to full frame ... make a printout of the files on a machine tied to you, with APS and D610 ... paper pictures can puzzle you ... and bring you to life.
Before you go to full frame ... make a printout of the files on a machine tied to you, with APS and D610 ... paper pictures can puzzle you ... and bring you to life.
Tell someone about the colors d610 or d600? I want to buy a D70 (D200) to the Nikkor 2,8-600 610 II lens. Thanks :)
The color rendering picture of the D600 is very correct (after the D200, D300s, D700). I shoot in RAW, BB Auto works very correctly. If the lighting is absolutely disgusting, in Lightroom 5 it is much easier to edit than, again, the old people D200, D300s, D700. I really like my D700, but the D600 has a more “correct” color, there are three times more WB settings, although I twisted them and don't touch them anymore - the machine does an excellent job. Now the camera has a mileage of about 50 thousand, there is no oil on the matrix, and there was none. Dust appears, I blow it off.
My D700 is getting out of my bag less and less, only when I need to quickly remove it, and there is no time to change lenses, then D700 + D600. But basically now the D600 is the main camera, it’s not my first wedding, it makes me happy. This is IT !!!
My very first (then still free) wedding shoot was almost 35 years ago, in April 1980. If I had D600 + 24-70 f2,8 (14-24 f2,8) in my hands then, and in my bag there was also a D700 + 70-200 f2,8 - now I would not be so ashamed to remember that shooting with Zenith E with fifty dollars and a flash on the forehead. After that there were many, many, many weddings, many, many, many film cameras, then digital cameras, there was always a desire to "upgrade". Like Zenith - sucks, you have to take "Practice", or Kiev 19 sucks, you need to take Kiev 6s. Then Kiev 6c sucks, you have to take Pentacon Six, and then Kiev 88 (like Hassel), and film Nikons and Canons appeared, and how many of them appeared, and how many of them changed. And now, for some reason, on the contrary, that they will not release a new one - the people immediately roar indiscriminately “fu… nya” !!! And we used to have shorter than 600 \ 610, and they filmed sports, and children, and weddings on fixes with an open aperture, on the 750th film, without stubs. Were the photographers on a different level? Not so spoiled? How did Henri Cartier Bresson “rivet” so many masterpieces with his old Leica without 1 \ 8000? And without the autofocus trap, which is not even (horrible!) On the D1? Maybe for the general development take the same camera as Ansel Adams, and try to “make masterpieces” like him? And then crap the D1000-D130-D1, because some button is not there. Here is rushing me ...
The D600 is a very good camera! Moses Solomonovich Nappelbaum would have to go to the studio, otherwise he was filming his portraits with some kind of plywood box ...
Thank you, I will take note! Good luck in photo sketches!
I fully support Brownie !! D600 is a very good camera! Already 2 wedding seasons plowed away! Mileage in the region of 70 thousand. I do not see oil! Dust particles sometimes happen, this is normal (change windows)! After each shooting, I’m not too lazy to work with a photo-pear and wipe the camera body with a damp soft cloth!
I thought under the general noise (the dust-oil situation, recognized by Nikon) on the D600 to change the shutter! I wrote a letter to the official nikon! A couple of hours later, a representative calls, he asked me everything on the shelves and advised not to "smack the hot pot" if everything is OK with the device! From his words, the first batches were definitely with dust and oil, and in the last batches this problem was eliminated! I took my D600 almost a year after the start of sales and I have it without oil already! For the sake of interest, I asked how often D600s get into services! The answer reassured and reassured me !! In the meantime, I calmly use it and cannot get enough of it! It is clear that the D750 will already be better, and the D810 is generally cool, but you cannot keep up with the technique, especially at the present time with prices and the rate of “evergreen”! So, friends, use and improve! Fortunately, there are a lot of interesting and unique courses, IR, etc. Here are the things!
Advise what to take 610 or 7200
610 or 7100.
I don’t see any special buns on the 7200, unless you really need built-in wi-fi, or a more convenient time-lapse shot.
Wi-fi and video in the camera are superfluous in 7200 focus chain and 600-610 full frame and more interesting where the noise is less and the pictures are cleaner and I think I can keep up with the money in 350 thousand tenge / dividers by 4 how many in hryvnias I don’t know / the amount is decent for me here I’m asking those who know the money for a long time from the family you can’t hide the answer who knows the day in 2-3
Take Rinat 610, anyway, after 7100 or 7200, in a year or two you want to get a full frame. I am a year and a half from 7100 and already starting to want.
Do you need FF?
What are the priority tasks: a highly blurred background, or a large depth of field, a wider angle, or a larger EGF (to look away)?
Answer these questions, and the question "what to choose" will be immediately resolved.
Arkady has an article on the topic "FF or crop", read it.
Question to experienced photographers!
Help determine the set of techniques for wedding photography.
I am a beginner self-taught photographer with an experience of 2 years. I have experience shooting weddings and other events with friends and acquaintances. I'm going to do this business more professionally and make money on it. My current kit: Nikon D300, Sigma 10-12 f4.5-5.6 DC, Nikon 35 f1.8G DX, Nikon 50 1.8D FX, Nikon 55-200 f4-5.6G VR and about 5 manual glasses, SB-600 puff . In practice, this is not enough for me. I want to switch to FF, leave the D300 as a spare. And here is the dilemma:
1.What is better for weddings D610 (about $ 1300) or used (up to 30000 mileage) legend D700 (about $ 1000)?
2. I will leave a set of lenses - 50 1.8D, but I don’t know whether it is worth selling the cropped Sigma and 35-ku, or leave one for the D300 (maybe Sigma for a wide angle)?
3. What other inexpensive shirik to buy on FF Nikon 28 f2.8D or something else?
4.And for portraits of Nikon 85 f1.8G or Nikon 80-200D f2.8 III?
Budget 2000 $
Thanks in advance!
Stop spamming all topics.
I apologize! I won’t!
Help with the problem. When shooting video, tracking autofocus does not work, AF-F is in the settings. When you turn on the live view, it induces and everything reacts only to the half-pressed shutter button. What am I doing wrong?
Guys, tell me please, is it worth switching from d300s to this camera, or is it still worth collecting for something more serious?
Hello everybody! Tell me the memory card at what speed to take? Is there a priority in the card format? I plan to buy on Ali ... thanks for earlier!
I’ve been shooting it for 3 years with this camera. The camera is normal. I used to film Zenit 122, Minolta 5xi, Minolta 5 Dynax 5, Yashika, f90 f100 then Nikon d90 d600 Optics Nikor 35-70 2.8d 70-210 f4 50 1.8d further sigma 85 1.4. I won’t list with the rest. What can I say, I always liked the film (I shot it more economically, I always looked for the perfect moment, I was more disciplined about the composition, black-and-white drawing, exposure, etc.) And the figure spoiled the progress))). But the result statistics on side of the numbers. I always shot on an open 2.8 3.5 on fixes 1.4 1.6 1.8. 2.5 and still have not seen garbage (the matrix has not been cleaned for 3 years, only blowing a pear, lucky !!!!) Color, you need to get used to it. In the native converter, everything is fine. In the rest, worse. In Kaptura, onet about Skinton is interesting, for management I like some modes of what U1.U2 costs. You can adjust the camera for yourself, price))) I don’t really like old optics, I need to cover the diaphragm, (megapixels).
