Overview of the MC HELIOS-44M-7 58mm 1: 2

Interesting, but I never met lenses 44m-5 (6,7) with the name written in Cyrillic - MS Helios-44m-5 (6, 7) 2/58, but saw only the names in Latin - MC Helios-44M-5 (6, 7) 2/58for example, such MC Helios-44M-7 58mm F2.0as in this review. If someone has information about the existence of lenses 44m-5, 44-m6,44m-7 with Cyrillic designation, please unsubscribe in the comments. The four latest versions of the MC Helios-44m-X series lenses, where X = 4, 5, 6, 7, come with the inscription 'Zenit' next to the name of the lens, and the logo of the optical-mechanical plant on Valdai.

As an exception, you can still find 'MC Helios 44M-4 2/58' (Valdai) without the Zenit inscription and without a dash between the name and number, or with the Latin script 'MC Helios 44m-4 2/58' (Krasnogorsk plant).

Lens MC HELIOS-44M-7 58mm 1: 2 and its aperture. The diaphragm petals are metallic, which is embarrassing.

By the way, there is another interesting modification of class 2/58 lenses - this is a rare version Helios44-7 (not MS) from the Zenith-7 camera, it should not be confused with version 44m-7.

MS Helios-44m-7 2 58 - front view

MC Helios-44m-7 2 58 - front view

Concerning MC Helios-44M-7 2/58 - that is the sharpest a copy among all lenses of the 'Helios' brand with the specification 2/58. Its resolution is 50 lines / mm in the center and 30 lines / mm at the edges of the image. Information on the resolution of Helios 2/58 you can see here. I do not recommend overpaying for the best option in the face of MC Helios-44m-7, since the real situation with the sharpness of the lens very much depends on its real state, because Soviet lenses pretty old. Personally, the 44m-7 lens that I had for this review seemed less sharp than the version Helios-44m-6 58mm F2.0 MS. You can read an interesting comparison of sharpness Carl Zeiss Planar 50 / 1.4 and Helios 44M-7 MS 58/2.

All Helios lenses with F2.0 58mm were built on the basis of the optical scheme of grandfather Carl Zeiss Jena Biotar 2/58.  MC Helios-44M-7 2/58 - is a kind of flagship of the Helios-44m-X line. If I were asked what modification of the Helios-44 lens I kept for myself, then my choice would have stopped at one of the first Helios-44 lenses with a white body due to the fact that the first Helios-44 lenses had a 13-blade diaphragm and a diaphragm control ring ... You can read about the 13-petal white version for the m39 thread here.

MC Helios-44m-7 2 58 - serial number. My copy came to me for review in perfect condition.

Also, interesting conclusions about the Helios-44x-X line are written on the website of Sergei Elizarov here. By the way, there are rumors that the first white Helios-44 lenses were made from German glass, which was taken out of Germany after the end of the war. If you have information about this, please leave it in the comments on this review.

A characteristic highlight of the MC HELIOS-44M-7 58mm 1: 2 is the twist of the bokeh. Many people like the 'twisted' bokeh, and MC HELIOS-44M-7 58mm 1: 2 also has a nice 'pattern' in photographs, especially when used at open apertures.

Type of enlightenment of the lenses of the MC Helios 44m-7 2 58 lens

Type of enlightenment of the lenses of the MC Helios 44m-7 2 58 lens

The lens has a smooth focusing, a metal focusing ring. When focusing, the front lens does not rotate, and the lens trunk extends by 1 cm. The focus ring rotates approximately 220 degrees. The minimum focusing distance is 50 cm. The aperture ring can be fixed at F2.0 to F16. The number of aperture blades is 6 pieces. With the number of diaphragm blades, their shape and blackening, 44m-7 disappointed.

The lens has a blinking aperture device. In order to MC Helios-44M-7 2/58 to obtain aperture control when used on digital cameras, you need to lock (clamp) the automatic aperture control lever. Lenses that have a blinking aperture are designated by the letter 'm', for example, 'Heli0s-44м'. Personally, I shot everything at F2.0.

How to use with modern cameras?

Lenses with mounting thread M42 (M42 X 1 / 45.5), such as the lens from this review, are very easy to use on almost any modern digital camera (both SLR and mirrorless), for this it is enough to choose the right adapter (adapter). You do not need to carry out any additional steps to modify the lens.

The cheapest adapters can be found at Aliexpress.com... There are adapters (adapters) with a chip that provide more convenience during shooting, usually chips are used to confirm focus and / or metering exposure, and form the correct EXIF. The chip does not affect the image quality in any way.

For some SLR cameras (for example, with the Nikon F-mount), you need to use adapters with a corrective lens, which allows you to focus correctly at all focusing distances. For any mirrorless cameras, such a lens is not needed, and the adapter is a simple decorated hollow metal tube with an appropriate mount.

For SLR cameras

  1. Canon: For cameras Canon EOS with bayonet mount EF / EF-S need an M42-Canon EOS adapter, such an adapter with a chip can be found herewithout chip here.
  2. NIKON: For cameras Nikon DX / FXas well as for cameras Fujifilm и Kodak with a Nikon F mount, you need an M42-Nikon F adapter, you can buy such an adapter without a lens and a chip here, with a lens without a chip herewith chip without lens here, with lens and chip here. Why a lens? Why chip?
  3. PENTAX: For Pentax cameras with K mount, you need an M42-Pentax K adapter, you can buy such an adapter here.
  4. SONY/MINOLTA: For cameras with a Sony / Minolta A mount, you need the M42-Sony A adapter, you can find such an adapter without a chip at this linkwith a chip at this link.
  5. OLYMPUS/PANASONIC/LEICA: For cameras with a 4/3 bayonet mount (not to be confused with Micro 4/3!) You need an M42-4 / 3 adapter, you can buy such an adapter here.

For mirrorless cameras

  1. SONY: For cameras with 'E'/'FE' mount series SonyNEX и Sony Alpha you need an adapter M42-Sony E (aka M42-Sony Nex), you can find it at this link. An autofocus adapter is also available for these cameras. Techart PRO Leica M - Sony E Autofocus Adapterwhich can be found at this link.
  2. OLYMPUS / PANASONIC / KODAK / XIAOMI: For cameras with a bayonet mount Micro 4/3 (Micro 4:3) you need an adapter M42-Micro 4/3, you can find it at this link.
  3. CANON M: For cameras with Canon EF-M mount need adapter M42-Canon M, it can be found at this link.
  4. CANON R and RF-S: For cameras with Canon RF mount need adapter M42-Canon R, it can be found at this link.
  5. Nikon 1: For cameras Nikon 1 Series need adapter M42-Nikon 1, you can find it at this link.
  6. Nikon Z: For cameras Nikon Z series (FX/DX) need an adapter M42-Nikon Z, it can be found at this link.
  7. FUJIFILM X: For cameras with mount X need an M42-Fuji X adapter, you can find it at this link.
  8. FUJIFILM GFX: For medium format cameras G-mount need M42-Fuji GFX adapter, you can find it at this link.
  9. SAMSUNG: For cameras with NX mount, you need an M42-Samsung NX adapter, you can find it at this link. There are no adapters for the NX mini camera yet.
  10. PENTAX: For Q-mount cameras, you need an M42-Pentax Q adapter, you can find it at this link.

Two lenses: MC HELIOS-44M-7 58mm 1: 2 and Helios 44-2 2 58

Two lenses: MC HELIOS-44M-7 58mm 1: 2 and Helios 44-2 2 58. Strong differences are seen in the frame of the case.

Conclusions:

MC HELIOS-44M-7 58mm 1: 2 is an excellent sharp lens. On modern digital cameras MC HELIOS-44M-7 58mm 1: 2 can serve as a good portrait lens, a lens for creative shooting. The lens gives an interesting 'twisted bokeh' effect.

Familiarity with the Soviet Helios brand lenses I recommend starting with an inexpensive and common lens Helios-44-2 2/58 (aka HELIOS-44-2 2/58). The following links can look at modern lenses Zenitar и HELIOS.

I bought Helios 44m-7 for 500 rubles. The front lens was scratched, but it didn’t affect the image, and the aperture closing mechanism was damaged. It worked from f2,8 to f5,6. I was able to disassemble it, so as not to break it, I unscrewed the rear lens and put it on Helios 44m-4. Seven gives a good color, and strongly twists the background, but my copy was soapy. After installing the rear lens on the four, I got a relatively sharp modernized copy, but with an improved color and a stronger background twist. A very artistic drawing turned out, though for some reason infinity began to arise in the middle between the ten and the symbol of infinity. Seven is good in color and pattern, but there is a problem with sharpness, maybe other copies are better.

    • Rodion

As mentioned in the article about the early Helios-44P, the MC of helios and non-MC may not be quite compatible - the lenses are quite a bit different. Therefore, when replacing, a rearrangement of the rear section is required. But in general, everything is the same - the background swirl increases, the sharpness and infinity position change after changing the lens.

    • Sergei

The same trouble. The diaphragm is only up to 5.6. I don't understand the reason for the breakdown. The portrait is not affected

  • Alexander

Good afternoon, Thank you Arkady for the great articles. Can you give a little advice, I do not have much experience in this simple. I purchased the MC HELIOS-44M-7 lens, although I wanted and was looking for the MS HELIOS-77M-4. Is it worth it to bother and look for the MS HELIOS-77M-4 yet, or will I not see a significant difference? Thanks in advance.

    • Arkady Shapoval

Not worth it. Learn, for starters, what you already have.

      • Alexander

        Thank you :)

  • Jury

Gentlemen, help mi pliz! I have such a lens on my hands - absolutely new, without run, but with a defect - the diaphragm does not work. I know about the mechanism - pressing does not help. The diaphragm itself - in order, when you press the pin on which the leash presses - it opens and closes. The leash itself looks normal, no damage or bends. Springs are normal. But all together - does not push the diaphragm as expected ... Google is silent like partisans during interrogation (Which way to dig? Logic suggests that something is wrong with the leash (pieces of iron with springs)

    • Jury

During the experiments, I found out that the lens opens the diaphragm with the adjustment ring, but does not close it ... only with a finger on the lever if

      • Andrei

This is normal. The diaphragm is not controlled by the ring, but its value is only set. It is controlled by a “skipping rope”. Those. if you fasten the adapter (it should be with a protrusion or flange to the side that will sink the jumper pin), then the diaphragm will ALWAYS be controlled by the ring.
        Good luck!

    • mAlex

Recently, a “G-77” with such a defect was presented on an utensil - there was too much grease in its internal cavities, as a result, the diaphragm was simply sealed with it, like plasticine; the repair was reduced to disassembling and washing the diaphragm block from these very surpluses. "G-44M" is no different from 77 in design at all. The only difference is that in 77 the lens unit consists of assemblies, and in 44 it consists of lenses, that is, its contents will need to be handled more carefully. If the shells of the lenses are unpainted - blacken !!!

I still propose to you, Pan Arcadia, yak to the owner of the author of the central and main site. Why don't you see the adverts on sale at the comments? And in the first statty, and in those in the comments before them, ominous by your order, the stench gives a power to your side with the rant about the sale of pink photo junk. I can look more beautifully around an article about photoselling, if the stench in the comments was given on their own announcement about the sale, and they did not tulle them everywhere, deprived of the abi shit who are in vtyuhati. First of all one sold - one posilannya.

    • Arkady Shapoval

This will not solve the issue. They don’t really break anything. Also, tracking all comments from the entire site is extremely difficult for me. A spam filter per day only catches about 200-300 comments.

  • Victor Stargazer

  • I want Helios

Arkady, I beg your pardon. I saw an announcement at a local flea market: “Fully adapted for Nikon, with a change in the working distance.
Focuses on the entire range, including infinity.
Optical unit without disassembly, no optical changes
no block was made. The details of the helicoid are reground on a lathe. "
How to understand this? Did the man remake Helios under Nikon mount?
Should I take this? Or is the usual better? And yet - I read that Helios has some kind of weird aperture control, not like normal glass. Can I open it at 2.8 and leave it there without thinking, or do I need to constantly fix it somehow at this value?

    • R'RёS,R ° F "RёR№

Or maybe look for Helios-81? And the diaphragm is working, and Nikon mount.

    • Arkady Shapoval

Yes, this is a frequent occurrence, it is not difficult to do. You can almost always control it manually using the aperture ring.

      • I want Helios

Arkady, and if you take a regular, not sawed-up lens, then on the D700 it will touch the mirror ??
Is this critical to its damage? :(

        • Arkady Shapoval

Will not touch the mirror. But without alteration, you can focus no further than 2 meters.

          • I want Helios

            Damn, complicated. Well, hentai.
Arkady advise a newbie where to spend money - what is better to buy a sawn Helios 44M-7 or add a little and take a used Nikkor 28-105 / 3.5-4.5. Sorry for the weird question. It's just that I like the picture in Helios, I don't like the need to look for a sawn specimen and then suffer with it, but at 28-105 I like the versatility and for the money it costs like two sawed Helios 44-7.

            • Arkady Shapoval

Good afternoon. Very different lenses. I advise you just by 28-105 to take Helios 44-2 and not to defame your head.

                Arigato :-)
Nice models for you, Arkady, and masterpieces)

            • Igor

That's why you bought a D700 for yourself, dear? Probably think, since this is prof. carcass, then the beauty in the pictures right out of the box will go out. We spent 50 thousand on the camera, lay at least + normal courses + a lot of practice on the harness. Then maybe something comes out.

              • I want Helios

                Igor:
Sorry, but this is not your business. There was money, so I bought it. And I don’t think anything. And yes, D700, just a sturdy camera with an outdated God knows how many years ago a DD matrix. Spent a little and she was worth her money. But not 50 thousand. 50 thousand it cost 2-2,5 years ago at the huckster with Avito. And cameras over time do not turn into elite wine. D600 can be bought for half an hour, and D800 for 60-65k. So I just bought an outdated ff camera no more and no less.
And now I’m thinking of buying a cheaper one from used D-series lenses.
I was just interested in Helios because of the bokeh. But fucking with manual lenses when the autofocus is like dirt is a dubious topic.
Practice will appear, courses for the money for which they ask for at the Nikon school in Moscow time can go on an erotic journey. I’ll learn it myself.
And how much to lay on the glass is my business. Buying something new and expensive on the D700 is crazy. Used zoom and fix will be enough.

              • Michael

Glasses need good, anyway. New or used, you will find expensive or cheap, but they should be good. Otherwise, they wrote to you correctly, a full frame will not give anything.

              • Valentine

There was a case, Jupiter was selling. The owner of the D800 is renting a wedding, in the park only 50 1.8D. He could not switch to mode A, had to show (and in vain). It turned out it takes off only in M, focusing on the central point, only in jpeg (considered all this a virtue). Well, there are clients who want a cheaper photographer, let them enjoy the staff. And yes, the budget should be appropriately divided between carcass and optics. Good optics are not cheap. Yes, and the D700 is a very good camera to this day.

              • I want Helios

                Michael:
The full frame has already given me something that no one will take away:
                1) Work on ISO above 1200 (compared to D90)
                2) Another DOF.
Glasses are now all expensive with the current rate. While I will think. If I still take the sawn Helios, I will not sell it, but try to master it.

              • Michael

D90 with a range of up to 10 thousand frames can be taken for 15 thousand rubles. D700 with mileage on the verge of a resource (the first or third shutter is still a question) is extremely difficult to find cheaper than 35 thousand rubles. So here I am for the D90 with optics and flash, if the money is 35-45 thousand rubles. And I'm for the D700, if the money is 90-110 thousand. Work on high ISOs for the D700 is clearly better, but this is a relative advantage, and a couple of years ago I owned the D90 for a considerable period of time, I never regretted about the lack of ISO.

        • Valentine

Helios with M42 thread is placed through an adapter on a Nikon mount. On the D700, I did not cling to the mirror. Note that there will be no infinity: either the adapter is needed with the lens, or the lens will have to be redone. Helios 81N / 81M has a mount compatible with Nikons without alterations (that is, infinity is originally). But there was just a copy of this from Kiev 19, which clung to the D800, despite the fact that it worked without problems on the D90 and younger cameras. You need to try everything, if you need Helios at all. My photographs from them, as they are, are not very impressive either in sharpness, in contrast, or in the correctness of colors. Is it possible that the twisted bokeh is interesting at the full frame, but on the clamped aperture it shoots, of course, it shoots with the desired sharpness. Modified photos can be quite good.

          • Igor

Did he cling to a mirror?

            • Valentine

              Yes.

  • Ivanov

    Hello.
Recently acquired a similar Helios in new condition.
Very pleased with the contrast of the picture. I use it on crop.

I recently noticed that if you look closely from the front lens, you can replace something like small bubbles at the edges.
Has anyone encountered a similar phenomenon? Thanks.
Of course, this is not reflected in the photographs.

    • Arkady Shapoval

Yes, these are the usual bubbles in optical glass (poor quality control). In Helios, I often saw this. If the picture suits you, just accept it.

      • Ivanov

        Arkady hello.

        Thanks for the quick response.
        Yes, the picture completely erases.
What we are talking about is located on the edges of the inner lens.
        Noticeable if you look closely.
At the full frame, I also think that the photo will not come out in any way.
Nevertheless, I was surprised to notice them.

By the way, here - if someone is interested in what is at stake.

        • Vitaly N

It looks more like a fungus. If contrast suits you, then forget it. Or change the lens. It may not affect the picture, but when the lens is exposed, the contrast may drop sharply. Use a hood.

        • Jury

These are small drops of condensate, most likely. Should add software to the image and reduce contrast. Have it repaired so that the lenses are washed, the old grease is removed and greased with a new, non-volatile.

          • Ivanov

I just took a photo for them.
            Laid out in full size

            https://500px.com/gregor_s/galleries/helios

            • Vitaly N

Quite normal. Just attach a lens hood just in case. All the same, a lens for pampering, oops, creativity. It will probably get bored quickly.

      • Valentine

Rather bad glass (by strict standards) than bad control. Because the norms were allowed. Notes were even made in the passport, for example, the J37A states: "Visible bubbles and opaque inclusions in the glass, which do not go beyond the requirements of the technical specifications, do not affect the image quality and are not a defect."

        • Rodion

Welding such a thick lens as in Jupiter, without bubbles, is a skill.

          • Valentine

all manufacturers have tolerances for this, just some specimens come across lenses with bubbles and frequent, and quite large

            • Ivanov

In fairness, I must say that the bubbles are located only at the edges of the lens, so it’s really obvious that they do not affect the picture.
However, an unprepared photographer can be very confused)

      • Oleg

We are all paying attention, Irina. Enlighten us on the issue of optics manufacturing techniques. Are looking forward to!!!

        • Arkady Shapoval

As the summary shows me, this is not Irina, but Valery in the past.
I really have errors in my review and articles and I am ready to make any corrections if they correspond to the real state of things.

      • Arkady Shapoval

You can indicate the correct answer, from this I and other users will enrich their knowledge, thanks.

  • Veron

Hello, it is better to take helios 44-2 or helios 44m-7, on canon 1100d

    • Rodion

      There is no fundamental difference.

  • Novel

Hello, Arkady, I always read your reviews with interest. I recently decided to recall my passion for youth and took up photography. I was fascinated by the topic of using Soviet lenses on a Canon camera. Reading your reviews, I got a few and I wanted to buy Helios 44m-7 MC. All reviews indicate its weight is 270 grams, I recently bought it, they sent it to me by mail, its weight was 230 grams. Tell me, have you been deceived by me? Thank you in advance.

    • KalekseyG

Maybe seven partially with plastic parts.

  • I want Helios

I bought the same 44M-7, re-sharpened under the Nikon F mount on Avito.
Not cheap, but everything works as it should.
I was struck by the sharpness on the open aperture.
In the portrait, you can count the pores on the person’s face without wearing glasses.
In the camera profile, all the sliders in the middle stood.
I was surprised how calmly I took this D4 lens (yes, I have a Nikon D4 and I bought Helios for it).
The light meter always worked out without errors. Skinton is amazing - a little better than in life)) Very nice skin.
Sharpness on open (2.0) as not every 35-70 / 2.8D on open with the same focal.
The mirror does not touch - there are no extraneous sounds.
The camera itself helps to focus in the priority of the aperture where to turn the focus ring.
The focus ring travel is unusually large and at the same time thick and very smooth.
The diaphragm ring also runs smoothly with noticeable but quiet clicks.

    • Bald

All good health! I listened to you and bought for the existing Nikon D4, 44M-7. And it looks like the same seller from Novogireevo. I have a question. When the camera helps to focus and the focus confirmation sensor is on, it's only up to 5,6 for some reason. From 8 to 16, only arrows blink in both directions. That is how it should be? Thank you in advance.

  • I want Helios

The lens likes when there is a lot of light - except for backlight.
When you close the aperture, it gets dark right before your eyes with every click in the viewfinder.
The lens noticeably warms up the picture - like old cheap Sigma screwdrivers.
MDF - half a meter. This is certainly not very convenient. People are still ok to take pictures, but with flowers it is somewhat inconvenient, I would very much like to get closer, but not closer.
The sharpness at infinity at f / 8.0 was not particularly pleasing, but at f / 11.0 it was already very good.
On covered diaphragms, corners and edges remain in excellent condition even at full frame, which sincerely surprised. I did not expect much from this lens for the money. Its purpose is clear and I won’t take pictures of it.
Focusing on short distances (close to MDF) is convenient, especially when fully open.
At infinity, on closed ones until 8-11, there is a chance to get soap, the old habit of AF glasses interferes - and here you have to wait for the green dot to constantly burn in the viewfinder without disappearing. Curious glass for little money.

    • Bald

Do you have this green dot on all the covered ones? With me, from 8 to 16, the dot is no longer lit, but instead the arrows blink in both directions.

  • Pokemon

Arkady, and a peculiar light glow like a veil, about white (for example, a child’s T-shirt) is this spherical aberration? Visibly on open 2.0 and on a diaphragm covered up to 11. But on the covered quite a bit.

  • Sergei

Accidentally read the review. You asked about Helios 44M-7 with a completely Russian designation on the case. I have one in excellent condition.

    • Igor

      Hello!
There is Helios 44-7 with the Cyrillic inscription (sold on ebay). Thread m42. Is it worth taking? Is it possible to distinguish a fake?
      Thank you for your consultation.

      • Michael

        This is not faked)

      • B. R. P.

Maybe from Zenit-7. but where did he get Nikon's "ears"?

  • BB

And you, I see, an expert, immediately laid out all the facts.
Arkady's articles are based on his personal experience, tests and comparisons of hundreds of units of various equipment. You do not need to be an expert in optical engineering in order to test the lens and understand that it is rubbish, or vice versa.

  • Arkady Shapoval

To each his own, I have my blog and my personal opinion. Your right to have a different point of view, and if it helps others to make the right choice, describe it and help others.

  • Maria

Well it is all the same. what to write: in Hollywood, films are shot better than in Europe, because there the technology of shooting at a height while not saying a word about drama), for the example

There are subtleties of industrial technology, etc.
And there are endusers. For whom, this is essentially an empty phrase. Because the most important thing is not the feeling of a techie, but of the same photographer (s) who uses technology a lot.

+ All these insinuations about anything at all.

We are all adults, and even Arcadia does not perceive information as an absolute.

Everyone has their own vision of “what is better (cooler)”.

But this is absolutely no reason to write angry comments to a person who already spends a lot of energy and soul on reviews. After all, their main goal is not to create a correct picture of the world according to GOST, but to interest, give an occasion to debate.

And it's cool that he created a platform for this and supports it. The rest are either less informative (forums) or more pathos.

  • Andrei

    Irina, what surprises you?
This is the same as with cars, someone likes Toyta with leather, someone needs a “rag”, and some are content with old Zhiguli.
Therefore, to make an objective review on lenses and cameras is not realistic, because the perception and analysis of the result is different for all people, including Arkady.

  • Alexander

Hello! Today I went to the garage and found 44m-7 ... I never took pictures of it ... In 2012 I bought a carcass ... I read about manual optics, went to the experts and took half a bucket of optics (literally ... I read it on the forums - I liked the industrial -61 ( lz) ... The rest were gathering dust .. The son then threw out these half-buckets, there were 2-3 pieces left on the shelf ... I can't really assess the quality of sharpness with a monitor - 15 inches on a laptop ... ), a44 carcass ... It seemed to me that the sharpness is good ... How do you like it?

    • Arkady Shapoval

On samples of 1200 × 800, you will not especially consider sharpness

      • Alexander

        I can send the source

        • Arkady Shapoval

Better send a link to the source archive

      • Alexander

or upload files here, but even the standard ones are not more than 2 mb

        • Arkady Shapoval

I erased the attached images, since they are not signed on which apertures. I'm waiting for a link to the source from you, thanks for the efforts

          • Alexander

https://yadi.sk/d/IUE4M9RQFhjenw the quality is standard there ...

            • Arkady Shapoval

              Super! Thanks :)

          • Alexander

yes diaphragm from 2 to 16 in file order ...

  • Alexander

Will you surprise me? What are the supporting facts about the quality of optics? Refraction measurements? Light sensitivity? Resolution in lines? Absolute data are more or less (this is the strength of steel, chemistry, physics, etc.) !!! There are more than 6 billion eyes in the world ... And how to write - “I know it”? "I say it"? You are delusional !!! Never put your opinion above others !!! Do not judge, but do not be judged !!! You insult the author with phrases- “I think it seemed to me” - And your comment “Quote from his“ scientific article ”-“ Personally, the 44m-7 lens that I had for this review seemed less sharp than the Helios-44m version -6 58mm F2.0 MS. ”!!! If it seems, cross yourself !!! And don't touch the avor !!! I will explain, eyes, optics is a purely subjective opinion !!! And with 44m-7 you were just out of luck !!! Its sharpness is ideal - even there is no deflation at 16 !!!

  • Julia

Hello, I am a happy owner of Helios 44-2, now I also want to buy 44M-7, tell me which adapter to buy, so that infinity would work ... And if with a lens, how does it affect the photo? Thanks!

    • Michael

An adapter with a lens - this is the only way there will be infinity on Nikon. In the photo, the lens, of course, affects and not in the best way.

    • Pokemon

Julia, if you live in Moscow, then in Novogireevo there is a master selling 44M-7, already transferred to the Nikon mount for infinity. No adapters needed.

  • Alexander

I found here such a Helios 44m lens. But I can’t understand what series it is. Maybe someone knows?

  • Nicholas

Dear author, please tell me how can I beginner choose a pair of old lenses on the M42 for the elderly Sony A-37 (A mount).

The problem is the following - just starting self-training (mainly on YouTube, video) in the plans to try to shoot a short meter. skills are zero and confused in the abundance of terms and techniques.

There is a whale lens from Sonya, but it is absolutely not suitable for my tasks:
    1. Shooting in darkened conditions in small rooms of the gaming amateur "kin"
    2. Shooting of nature, passages at a great distance.
    3. Shooting active actions - running around, fighting, activity.

What set of old lenses with a minimum of manual work do I need? Willow in St. Petersburg has a budget of 5-8 rubles

    Thank you!

    • Arkady Shapoval

I strongly recommend that instead of Soviet lenses take something like the old autofocus Tamron 17-50 / 2.8, it will be many times better and more convenient for your tasks. Soviet optics lacks wide-angle for crop, and is also difficult to work with.

  • Arthur

Hello everyone! I always loved to shoot Soviet optics for the soul) Recently I got myself an interesting copy machine. I have never met Helios MS 44M-7 in such a case before.

  • Stanislas

Good time of day. So I have a question. How much I look and so much wonder how many versions 44M-7. In the overview, for example, the front protective ring with the inscription marking has no holes. But for some reason I have these holes. Here, a person still has a new plastic case of the 96th year. So how many varieties?
