For the opportunity view of the lens Industar-22 1: 3,5 F = 50mm P Many thanks to Vadim Shkurat, who sent me a lens from another area for review.

Industar-22 1: 3,5 F = 50mm P

Lens overview Industar-22 1: 3,5 F = 50mm P

Industar-22 1: 3,5 F = 50mm P - lens from a rangefinder camera, folding version, with a focal distance of 28,8mm, therefore its use on modern SLR cameras is difficult. On SLR cameras, it is only suitable as a macro lens, in more detail here... There is also a version of the lens for enlargers - I-22U 1: 3,5 F = 50mm P.

How to use with modern cameras?

Lenses with an M39 thread (for rangefinder cameras, M39 X 1/28.8), such as the lens from this review, are very easy to use on almost any modern digital camera (both SLR and mirrorless), for this you just need to choose the right adapter (adapter). There is no need to carry out any additional actions to remake the lens. The cheapest adapters can be found at Aliexpress.com.

For mirrorless cameras

  1. SONY: For cameras with 'E'/'FE' mount series SonyNEX и Sony Alpha need here is an adapter M39 -Sony E (aka L39 -Sony Nex).
  2. OLYMPUS / PANASONIC / KODAK / XIAOMI: For cameras with a bayonet mount Micro 4/3 (Micro 4:3) need here is an adapter M39-Micro 4/3.
  3. CANON M: For cameras with Canon EF-M mount need here is such an adapter M39-Canon M.
  4. CANON R and RF-S: For cameras with Canon RF mount need here is such an adapter M39-Canon R.
  5. Nikon 1: For cameras Nikon 1 Series need here is such an adapter M39-Nikon 1.
  6. Nikon Z: For cameras Nikon Z series (FX/DX) needed here is such an adapter M39-Nikon Z.
  7. FUJIFILM X: For cameras with mount X need here is such an adapter M39-Fuji X.
  8. FUJIFILM GFX: For medium format cameras G-mount need here is such an adapter M39-Fuji GFX.
  9. SAMSUNG: NX mount cameras require here is an adapter M39-Samsung NX. There are no adapters for the NX mini camera yet.
  10. SIGMA / PANASONIC / LEICA: For cameras with L mount need here is such an adapter M39-Leica L.
  11. LEICA: For cameras with a bayonet mount Leica M need here is an adapter M39-L / M.

It's important: for SLR cameras, only macro mode is possible (can only shoot at very close focusing distances).

For SLR cameras (macro mode only)

  1. Canon: For cameras Canon EOS with bayonet mount EF / EF-S need here is an adapter M39 -Canon EOS.
  2. NIKON: For cameras Nikon DX / FXas well as for cameras Fujifilm и Kodak with Nikon F mount needed here is such an adapter M39 -Nikon F (some cameras will only work in M-mode).
  3. PENTAX: For Pentax K-mount cameras, you need here is such an adapter M39 -Pentax K.
  4. SONY/MINOLTA: For cameras with a Sony/Minolta A mount, you need here is an adapter M39 -Sony A.
  5. OLYMPUS/PANASONIC/LEICA: For cameras with 4/3 mount (not to be confused with Micro 4/3!) here is an adapter M39 -4/3.

When installed on camera Canon 350D using adapters M42-Canon EOS + M39-M42, the back of the lens catches the mirror, be careful.

Attention: there is a rangefinder version of Industar-22 and a mirror version of Industar-22 and Industar-22 for enlargers.

The focus ring rotates 180 degrees, the minimum focus distance is 1 meter. On the lens you can find the depth of field scale and focusing distance. It is very interesting and unusual to work with such a lens, this is not some modern autofocus super-zoom.

Two lenses: Industar-50-2 and Industar-22

Two lenses: Industar-50-2 and Industar-22

The aperture setting is smooth, with no intermediate values from F / 3,5 to F / 16.0. The number of diaphragm blades is 8 pieces. The optical design, like that of most Industars, is very simple. Industar-22 1: 3,5 F = 50mm P has anti-reflective lenses, for which the red letter 'P' in the lens name is responsible.

All filmed without processing. Of course, it was not possible to shoot seriously with a SLR camera and a rangefinder lens.

that's what is interesting. a friend gave a vigilant to him, I picked up this industrial 22, since I have a 3m zenith with an M39 thread, as far as I understand it, to remove the industrial 22 you need only in closed form (the tube should completely drown) and the function of the extension tube is macro. only in the head does not rest. industrial was made for the vigilant. and the sharp-sighted one is not mirror then how to see the focus on macro then? what ideas?

    • Rodion

Please reread the message and rewrite it with punctuation marks. I'm stupid, I didn’t understand anything. It looks like an elven one.

    • Rodion

      In general, if essentially:
      1. Alteration of this lens for DSLRs will kill the possibility of sliding - you need to cut off the tube from behind.
      2. At the zenith, only macro can be removed by default when the tube is unfolded.
      3. The idea is to take the Industar-50 for the Zenith or look for the Zenith variant of the I-22.

    • Serge

These cameras, despite the M39 thread, have different working lengths. Zorky has 28,82 mm, while Zenith with M39 has 45,2 mm (M42 has 45,5 mm). Therefore, it is impossible to put on a Zorky lens from Zenith, despite the same M39 thread - there will be no focusing. In order for it to focus, you need to install an intermediate ring 16,38mm (45,2-28,82 = 16,38) between the flange and the lens. It will be possible to focus on the distance scale. The rangefinder will not work.

There are instances with a ten-petal diaphragm! Of course, this option is generally preferable - the aperture looks much better than with the eight-petal. The photo shows two lens units from different Industar-22 (without front lens units). I categorically do not recommend simply unscrewing the front lens block just like that, without special need, as in this photo block, when screwing, it fixes the upper diaphragm ring. If the diaphragm blades fall out during disassembly (and this will almost certainly happen) it will not be very easy to assemble everything again!

    • Victor aka @victor_vvo

with skill, there is no problem at all to assemble the diaphragm :-)
      Today I collected one 22nd.
      the second on the assembly.

Well, in addition to its optical qualities, this lens looks very stylish, for example:

I tried this lens with an L39-NEX adapter on a Sony NEX 5N. I am glad that I didn't have to sharpen anything and invent anything, everything worked right away. The lens primarily liked its stylish vintage look. On a closed diaphragm, sharp. But somewhat soapy. I shot them right after Samyang 85 1.4, of course Samyang is better ... It's nice to shoot with this Industar, I liked it :) With the trunk removed, I don't recommend wearing it on the carcass - the sunken trunk clings to the inside of the camera.

  • Paul

Thank you very much Arkady for the reviews, I always read with pleasure, a lot of useful information ...

    • Alexander Hedgehog

Great pictures came from maltz! And modern optics is a different aesthetics, both when shooting, and as a result.

  • Telepasha

installed on Lumix GF7. One of the most convenient manual lenses. (I adjust the sharpness by lengthening the tube, quickly and conveniently) I don't really touch the aperture (I like to shoot in the open). Here the diaphragm is not very conveniently located. However, so that the tube does not touch the matrix, it is necessary to buy a bayonet for 42 mm lenses and screw on the ring with an increase in thread 39 - 42. The tube will “hide” in the mount. so it will be like a lens on an SLR camera. It looks, by the way, very, very cool.

Arkady !!!! Hello! And if you put this lens on Nikon Zh1 - will it do everything? Michael

    • Oleg

Fifty is definitely not suitable for all occasions for crop. If I’m not mistaken, then the crop of j1 is one to 2,7, you will get a fairly large efr equal to 135 mm, which will be very narrow, but you can shoot portraits

Thank you, I realized that he is a good portrait

I will share my experience why I put this lens on the D800. Initially, the lens stood on an old Zorkom, and I tried to shoot it with a set of M39 macro rings on the C5Pro, indulged and put everything in storage. And recently, defective microcircuits came from China and it was necessary to open a dispute and provide evidence, but I do not have a single macro lens. I remembered this Industar, put it on the D800, took some photos, won the argument :)

Do you need an adapter for this lens on samsung nx3000?

  • Vadim

There are a couple of such an Vigilant. One Zorkiy (1953) after prevention tried with this lens. Very small aperture. Left him on sunny weather.

    Hello Arkady!
Can I use your Industar 22 lens pictures (naturally with reference to https://radojuva.com/2013/03/obzor-industar-22-3-5-50mm-p/) in your video?
Do you have the opportunity to answer a couple of questions?
    With best regards, Vladimir

    • Arkady Shapoval

Yes, no problem, use whatever you like :)

  • Vladimir

Arkady, thanks! I found more suitable shots on YouTube videos.
A few days later on my channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWQSeD3L4X0z3wiDwOSYBhg there will be a video with the analysis of Frame 34, made by the Dyatlov group in 1959.

    All the best!

I installed such an "Industar-22" adapter L39-FX on mirrorless cameras: Fujifilm X-Pro1 and X-T1
    Filmed in the open.

    • Victor aka @victor_vvo

I also bought such an industrial today and also for fuji :)

Hello! What is the value of industrial-22 Moscow? its price is 5-7t.r.

    • mAlex

Industar-22 was not installed on "Moscow" - its working segment is not the same :))))
And I-23 and I-24 were put. The second was produced in a tube version for “Zenith 3M” as a telephoto (3,5 / 105) on the M39, rarely comes across and is therefore very expensive. If you want to make excrement, it's easier to tear off the lens from the “Moscow-5”, it can be purchased for a thousand and a half thousand with live optics, and co-opted with Zenith rings and a suitable helicoid - then it will also be possible to adjust the field of focus and blur in the bokeh, therefore that there you can, by moving the entire lens, also twist the front lens.

  • Shlomo

I'm trying to use this lens on a Fujifilm X camera, using a speedbooster adapter.
For some reason I'm not able to make it focus to infinity. The lens does focus if I pull it in a bit, getting it out of the extended position.
Do you know why this is happening and if there's a fix? I thought it's supposed to work well on mirrorless bodies.
