Nikon D3200 review

For the opportunity Nikon D3200 body camera review Many thanks to Natriashvili George, who sent me a camera from another area to Kiev for writing this review.

Nikon 105mm f / 2.8 VR Micro on Nikon D3200

Nikon 105mm f / 2.8 VR Micro on the Nikon D3200 camera

Nikon D3200 is an excellent consumer DSLR camera from Nikon. Nikon D3200 was released in the summer of 2012 and is now quite popular among Nikon amateur cameras. Title 'Nikon D3200 body ' means that the camera in the box does not have a lens. Usually Nikon D3200 comes with a lens Nikon 18-55mm f / 3.5-5.6G VR AF-S DX Nikkor. Such a lens is called 'whale', and the set itself is called Nikon D3200 kit. In this review, sample photos were not taken with a whale lens, but with Nikon 50mm f / 1.4G AF-S Nikkor.

Nikon D3200 boasts 24 MegaPixels on its CMOS matrix with crop factor 1.5X. Nikon D3200 camera can take pictures 6016 X 4000 pixels (24.064.000 pixels). Newer Model Nikon D5200 a slightly different matrix is used, with almost the same, but slightly fewer pixels. Among the cameras with a sprinkled matrix APS-C format Nikon DX, so far the Nikon D3200 has the largest number of pixels... By the way, the newer model is Nikon D3300 has a little less pixels :)

Users who like to crop pictures on a computer a lot should like the small functional Nikon D3200. A very interesting point is that if we build a full-frame matrix with the same pixel sizes as the Nikon D3200, we will get a 54MP camera. Similar thoughts came true with Nikon D7000 (16mp) -> Nikon D800 (36MP = 16MP * 2.25).

A huge number of megapixels Nikon D3200 requires special attention. A large number of pixels on the camera can sometimes play a trick. It concerns:

  • huge file sizes, especially when shooting in RAW format. Personally, I don’t particularly like the long copying of files to a computer and the resource consumption of batch processing of 'heavy' photos.
  • It is quite difficult to achieve the so-called 'pixel-by-pixel' sharpness with such a matrix, for this you need to use lenses with good resolution, that is, very sharp lenses. Sometimes closing the aperture to a certain value of the number F just helps. There are a lot of rumors about this, I can reassure you that it’s not worth worrying. Most likely in the comments to this review you will find many bright thoughts about manipulating sharpness.
  • a matrix with a large number of pixels has a lower diffraction threshold. This topic is quite complicated for the average amateur and deserves a separate article, who are interested, can be read here.
  • when using matrices with a huge number of pixels, you need to enter an additional coefficient for calculating excerpts. On the fingers, this can be explained in such a way that shorter values are required for handheld photography excerpts. When I worked with Nikon D3200, instead of my favorite excerpts in 1 \ 60 seconds for fifty lens, I had to use at least 1 \ 80 seconds to get a frame without stirring.

Personally, I need a camera with a large number of megapixels only for more flexible processing of photos on a computer, since with a large number of pixels you can pull out more useful data. But if processing is not needed, then I am quite pleased with the 6 megapixel Nikon D40... On the topic of pixels, I have another interesting article - Battle of Megapixels.

Nikon D3200 can work with photosensitivity ISO 100 to 6400 units and expand your ISO range to Hi1, equivalent to ISO 12.800. I do not recommend shooting at ISO above 3200. Very interesting, but as for a cropped camera, the Nikon D3200 does a good job in low light. In my opinion, the noise level at high ISOs of the Nikon D3200 is comparable to such cameras as Nikon D5100 и D7000. One can safely say that the Nikon D3200 is one of the quietest cameras among other Nikon crop (at the beginning of 2013). Unlike older Nikon cameras, this model when operating in auto ISO can set the minimum shutter speed itself, exiting the parameters of the mounted lens.

Nikon D3200 uses for focusing 11 pointswhich the Nikon Multi-CAM 1000 focus sensor is responsible for working with. The exact same focusing system can be found on cameras. D200, D80, D90, D3000, D5000, D3100, D5100 и S5 pro. 11 focusing points are enough for uncomplicated amateur photography. The Nikon D3200 has the 'points' of focus that are visually visible in the viewfinder, not the 'areas' of focus, as on many other Nikon cameras. You can read more about focusing on Nikon cameras. here и here.

Measurement exposure implemented with 420 pixel RGB sensor. The same sensor can be found in many other Nikon hobby cameras. About froze exposure you can read on Nikon cameras here. In general, the Nikon D3200 normally copes with metering in difficult lighting conditions. exposure. But automatic white balance going crazy. I shot in a room with mixed light sources, white balance very often he lied, and shooting people under incandescent lamps was just horror - in the gallery below you will find one such photo. Due to the camera's huge dynamic range and vivid saturated colors, incorrect BB leads to the fact that the picture does not look the best.

Nikon D3200 - very compact SLR camera, one of Nikon's lightest CZK, weighing only 500 grams. The battery of the EN-EL14 camera holds a charge quite well. The same battery is used for cameras Nikon D3100, D5100, D5200.

Nikon D3200 uses a large 3-inch display at 920.00 points. The same display can be found in more advanced cameras, by type D3, D3s, D3x, D700, D300, D300s, D90, D7000 etc. Working with such a display is very convenient. Nikon D3200 display is better than that of Nikon D3100, which has the same 3 inches, but is divided into 230.000 points.

Example photo on Nikon D3200

Example photo on the Nikon D3200. Job BB in difficult conditions

Nikon D3200 can shoot at speed 4 frames per second. Nikon D3200 shows very good performance results, this is due to the use of the processor from Nikon D800. Performance rating from Radozhiva can be viewed here. At the same time, in the RAW mode, the buffer indicator shows 8 shots, but in fact the camera takes about one shot 12 RAW format shots and with disabled advanced features that enhance the image. In JPEG mode, the buffer shows 14 pictures, but the camera takes about 19 pictures in one series until it starts to slow down. If you enable additional settings to improve image quality, then in RAW format and in the JPEG formatter 7 pictures are available in one burst. These are pretty good results for an amateur camera.

Sample photo on Nikon D3200

Sample photo on Nikon D3200

I was very surprised that Nikon D3200 uses RAW files only with 12-bit color depth. For example, cameras D5100 и D5200 use RAW files with 14-bit color depth. RAW files average approximately 20-25MB each. Camera supports SD, SDHC, SDXC (UHS-I) memory card, I used a 32GB SDHC memory card without any problems.

Nikon D3200 allows you to shoot video Full HD up to 1920 x 1080 pixels and up to 25 fps. In the 1280 by 720 mode, you can shoot video at up to 50 fps. Uses MOV format and H.264 codec, you can set the quality level to 'High' or 'Norm'. When shooting video, the built-in monaural microphone. You can use manual or automatic adjustment of the microphone sensitivity, and you can also turn off the microphone altogether.

The camera has an additional stereo microphone jack, Nikon recommends using the native ME-1 microphone. The camera can use continuous tracking focus AF-F for shooting video. AF-F focus mode must be set using the 'I' button while Live View is on. The accuracy and focusing speed in the video shooting mode is not fast; the focusing model is very strongly affected by the lens model used on the camera. The camera can be connected to the TV using a Type C HDMI mini cable.

In the camera menu, you can activate the 'Manual video setting' item. When this function is enabled, in manual mode of camera control 'M', manual shooting video available excerpts and ISO. Exposure can be set from 1 \ 30 to 1 \ 4000 seconds. When shooting video, you can immediately change the ISO value using the FN button if you set the FN button to control ISO sensitivity. It is convenient to shoot video in manual mode and with the included auto ISO function.

In P, A, S modes, you can shoot video and make corrections exposure for video using '+ \ -' button. In other scene modes, the correction exposure not available. Attention: during video recording, you cannot change the aperture value on which the video will be recorded, therefore, you need to set the F value before pressing the video recording button.

Example photo on Nikon D3200

Attention: The Nikon D3200 does not have a built-in focus motor, so be careful when choosing lenses for the Nikon D3200. Nikon D3200 fits all lenses with the designation DX, as well as any lenses with the designation AF-S, AF-I, or with any another designation, which indicates the presence of a focusing motor built into the lens. This disadvantage of the Nikon D3200 may slightly affect the cost of purchasing additional lenses. Personally, I don't see anything wrong with this, since all modern lenses have a built-in focusing motor.

All the photos in the gallery below were taken on the Nikon D3200. All photos without treatment... RAW -> JPEG Q80%. Reduced size to 1600 * 1200 and printed data from EXIF.

RAW source files ('.NEF') can be download from this link (28 files, 350 MB).

Nikon D3200 has a bunch of useful features:

  1. Function face priority focusing Live View - quickly helps you focus on people's faces.
  2. Function matrix cleaning. I recommend setting this function to clear the matrix when the camera is turned off.
  3. Guide Mode to quickly familiarize yourself with the camera and quickly learn the basic settings. By the way, in this mode there is a mode of softening the background area, which allows you to take pictures with blurry background, the camera recommends using lenses no shorter than 80mm.
  4. Tips & Tricks when working with the camera. A nice little thing for beginners. To see the prompt, you need to click on the button with the image of the question mark.
  5. Scene Recognition System, for people who need effortless results in the photo.
  6. Active D-lighting and noise reduction function at high ISO. You can read more about these functions. here.
  7. Picture Control with 'Standard', 'Neutral', 'Vivid', 'Monochrome', 'Portrait', 'Landscape' modes. I love that you can customize the Picture Control for color and taste. For this review I used the Vivid mode with a sharpness level of 7-9.
  8. Possibility remote controlfor example using a cheap remote control ML-L3. By the way, the camera has two infrared receivers of the remote control signal, one is located behind the camera, the other in front. This arrangement of receivers is very convenient to use.
  9. The ability to connect an additional wi-fi module WU-1 for instant transfer of photos / videos to a computer or other compatible devices. Not included in delivery.
  10. Quiet mirror operation.
  11. Electronic rangefindersorry range finder does not work with old class optics AI-S.
  12. The built-in flash can operate at shutter speeds up to 1 \ 200 second. The flash guide number in manual flash control is 13 meters. Nikon D3200 does not support FP mode works with flash and does not support creative lighting system Nikon CLS.
  13. Auto release function. The self-timer can be set to a series of 9 shots. It is convenient to take self-portraits, especially with a group of people.
  14. automatic adjustment distortions.
  15. An additional button has appeared on the Nikon D3200 body, which is responsible for the shooting mode - you can select burst, single-frame shooting, self-timer and release with a delay
  16. the D3200 has a rubberized insert on the body under the thumb of the right hand, as well as the camera grip-holder is also rubberized. Black rubber is clearly visible on the red camera housing shown in the photo below.
  17. You can buy a camera in a red case :)

Personal experience:

In this cell, I found fault with the following:

  • Pentazor-based viewfinder with 95% frame coverage
  • UC-E17 Series Custom USB Cable
  • the Fn function button is programmable for only 4 functions: quality / image size, ISO sensitivity, white balanceactive D-lighting. I configure this button to control ISO.
  • Active D-lighting It can be either turned on or off and has no gradations. And here is the passive D-lighting in post-processing it already has 3 gradations: normal, moderate, enhanced.
  • When the battery is depleted, the camera blocks the shutter, but you can still dig into the menu for a long time and watch the shot material. This annoys me very much, the camera works but does not take pictures.
  • the 'noise reduction' function is not divided, but immediately includes noise reduction in pictures taken with high sensitivity, and noise reduction in pictures taken at long excerpts. Also, this function does not have any gradation of noise reduction, but can be either turned on or off. On other cameras, you can set the noise reduction level
  • in RAW + JPEG mode, only 12-bit RAW and only JPEG with high image quality are available
  • it is not clear which lenses will work with the 'Aut. distortion control '. The menu states that these must be CPU lenses with distortion control support.
  • the ISO step does not change and is 1 step, which means that you cannot manually select the ISO with values of 125, 500, 2500, etc. Only ISO 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600, 3200, 6400, Hi1 can be used.
  • you cannot control the aperture value while shooting a video, most likely this is due to mechanical limitations and the aperture control method itself, which use Nikon cameras.
  • you cannot immediately start recording video by pressing the 'rec' button. Be sure to turn on Live View, and then press the 'rec' button.
  • lack of additional features that are in more advanced cameras, such as Nikon D7000. These functions include bracketing, multiple exposure, HDR, etc.

In general, I really liked the small and remote Nikon D3200. It would not hurt to improve the operation of the automatic BB. I even thought if I could change my old woman Nikon D40 on the Nikon D3200. After Nikon D40 Pictures taken with the Nikon D3200 appear very vibrant and juicy.

  • Ruslan

Arkady, tell me please, is it worth buying a D3300 without a low-pass filter or is it better to save and take the D3200 and additional optics?

  • Diodor

Tell me which lens on the Nikon D3200 is suitable for video shooting?

    • Arkady Shapoval

For example, any DX lens, a complete list here.

  • Eugene

Please tell me which lens is better for shooting children in the apartment and for shooting video? I suffer with a choice of 50 1/8 g or 35 1 / 8g camera d3200 with a whale kit

    • Valery A.

Probably 35 / 1,8, with 50 widths may not be enough. You yourself can try the FR data on your whale and see for yourself.

      • Eugene

        Thank you!

    • Egrus

35mm is preferable for this, it has a larger angle, respectively. more options in the composition of the frame, and with a 50mm lens on cropped in small rooms it may not be possible to make the desired frame, all the time there will be a desire to move further away into the wall. 50mm is still more portraiture, I personally bought myself 35mm for everyday use (a child in the apartment and on a walk) + helios 81 for portraits, cheap and cheerful

    • Egrus

for shooting video, it’s better to buy a video camera, especially if the child is small up to 5 years, the quality and smoothness of video from the camera is incomparably better even from an inexpensive camera.

      • Eugene

Thanks!!! It’s also an option and what kind of video camera can I take in the region of 300u.e

        • Egrus

Before my birth I bought a Panasonic HC-V760, it was in the region of 15 thousand, now it is from 23 thousand and above, which does not fit into the budget, at that time in the middle of 2015 it was the optimum in terms of price and quality.

          • Eugene

It’s a little out of the budget, we have 450 worth it. I’ll think the kids are more expensive

  • Anatoly

Hello, tell me how to deal with the huge file size of the D3200 with a resolution of 24M matrix and when installing high quality. I shoot in JPG. I don’t want to lower the resolution to 12M, they do not recommend lowering the quality either. If you still lower, then what? Or it makes sense to shoot to the maximum, and then compress it with a lightroom. It’s just that there are a lot of photos on the disk, and slow photos with the same weight as the D3200 gives out. I would like to know some least painless option so as not to lose much in quality. I look through part of the photo on the screen, sometimes it becomes necessary to print some photos. I think not only I have such a problem. Thanks in advance for the recommendations.

    • Arkady Shapoval

Use “image quality” - “JPEG avg. quality " (NORM L), in quality you will not lose, visually do not distinguish in any way, the size will be 2 times smaller. It's just a pity. that RAW + JPEG is only available in FINE + L mode.

      • Anatoly

thank you very much for the quick reply

  • Alexandra

Hello! Everything is described so well for you, but unfortunately, I’m not a specialist, my daughter is engaged in it, they now need to purchase a new lens that would be suitable for portrait shooting, nature and night shooting, as well as use it for a tripod. Advise which lenses to consider when buying, so that you can apply for these types of shooting. Perhaps there is one lens that can be applied to all the functions that I described
Nikon 3200dx model, the lens has an AF-S NIKKOR 18-55mm 1: 3,5-5,6G VR
Thank you very much in advance

    • Arkady Shapoval

For portraits, a super budget option - Nikon 50 1.8G
For nature, its full-time AF-S NIKKOR 18-55mm 1: 3,5-5,6G VR will fit perfectly
For night photography - you need to clarify what exactly she should shoot. A tripod + its AF-S NIKKOR 18-55mm 1: 3,5-5,6G VR will do just fine.

      • Alexandra

        thank you!

For night shooting people, and the city

        • Arkady Shapoval

As an option, another inexpensive option 35 1.8GDX.

          • Alexandra

That is, for portrait photography it is better to Nikon 50 1.8G (Nikon AF-S Nikkor 50mm 1: 1.8G), and take 35 1.8G DX for night shooting. (35 mm f / 1.8G AF-S DX)?

    • Valery A.

Hello. If by nature we mean close-up plants, etc., and not wide landscapes, I would suggest 50 / 1,8G. He's not an ideal portrait lens like the 85, 105 mm lenses, but he does. inexpensive and more versatile. With a tripod, you can shoot with any lens, at night - preferably with a high-aperture, like 50 / 1,8.

      • Alexandra

        Thank you for the answer!

        The principal difference is 50 / 1,8G and 50 / 1,8?

        • anonym

For the D3200 is very principled, only 50 1,8 G

        • Denis

in this case, they meant the same thing, namely 50 / 1,8G, just did not indicate the letter

  • Sergey Nizhegorodtsev

Thanks for the review, Arkady! This fotik bought his daughter 2 years ago in DR, she is happy. Sometimes I use it myself, I like everything, although I don’t know all the functions, I use it automatically :) I’m glad I didn’t miss the choice :)

  • Victor

Hello Arkady! I read all your reviews on cameras that I would like to buy in a used condition. For the price I settled on Nikon D3200 (mileage 12 thousand), Nikon D5100 (mileage 25 thousand), Canon 550D (12 thousand), Sony nex5n (mileage unknown). It turns out more than one my head swells from the choice. I took pictures with Soviet cameras.
In digital cameras, I’m a teapot and in this article it confuses me that “the Nikon D3200 does not have a built-in focus motor, so be careful when choosing lenses for the Nikon D3200”.
Do the Canon 550D and Nikon D5100 have such a problem?
This question arose with the fact that I have Soviet lenses (Helios, Jupiter 37a, World 10 and a couple of small ones) and a lens from Canon 3000 QD and can I use this optics on the Nikon D3200 (first of all, because it is acceptable in price), Nikon D5100, Canon 550D. In general, I tend to choose the Canon 550D but it is more expensive. All cameras with whale lenses.
I also read your articles on the use of “Soviet Lenses” and others.
But still, cereal in my head.
    Help me please.

    • Lynx

In your situation, they are essentially the same.
Just feel each, or their counterparts in stores.
Whichever falls in the paw is yours.

    • Maugli

Soviet M42 threaded lenses are much easier to use on the Canon EOS system. Sony will get everything, even rangefinder optics.

    • Arkady Shapoval

Any Nikon SLR camera with M42 optics will not focus on infinity. With any digital SLR camera, kenon with optics for M42 threads will have infinity. This is discussed in detail in articles about manual optics for nikon and kenon.

  • Victor

    Thanks so much guys.

  • Victor

    Thank you all guys.

  • Maksim

    Thanks. Good review.
I decided to start with this model.

  • Dima

Hello ! Tell me in which resolution is better to take pictures with this camera? Since 24 megapixels were put in here, which was not necessary, but for a marketing move! Yes, and for these pixels you need expensive lenses! What are your thoughts on this? Can shoot this camera in average quality just right? And the same question, if you use Soviet lenses, can they open at 24 pixels or still so much is not needed ???

    • anonym

Well, ideally, you need to reduce the width and height by an integer, i.e. if 2 times, then it will be 24 / (2 * 2) = 6 Megapixels, if 3 times, then it will be 24 / (3 * 3)

  • Elena

Tell me what are you doing with BB? I tried all the methods, it still “yellows” (

    • Ivan

Shoot in raw and, if necessary, adjust in Lightroom.

  • Aisylu

Hello, is there an opportunity on this camera to write the full name of the photographer in the photograph?

    • Arkady Shapoval

No, there is no such possibility.

  • Vadim

Good evening, please tell me which camera is better to buy for a beginner Nikon D3400 Kit 18-55 VR AF-P Black or Nikon D 3200 Kit 18-140 VR

  • Fedor

And about working with Soviet optics, is everything okay with her?

    • Jury

      far from all right

  • Fanil

Hello Arkady, thanks to your site, I bought a nikon 3200 5400 mileage for 19 ty I don’t know, maybe it’s just a little expensive 3200 in our Ulyanovs there weren’t any options and for 14 ty I was interested in the fact that the great-grandfather didn’t even know what mileage is and urgent price. There is a lens from the zenith of helios 44 how many meters will sharpen and how the device will lead without a chip.

    • KalekseyG

To you in the section with manual optics, in particular to helios. Well, what kind of adapter is available, with or without a lens.

      • Fanil

I read about lenses just like a portrait adapter; for now there is just zenith lying idle bought in the 87th years I didn’t know what the aperture ring needed to be closed back consulted with the photographer taught and went cool pictures and put army and then went soap dishes. I think just simple I just wanted to find out how many meters you can focus on.

    • Vitaly.

It is better to look for Helios-81N, and no adapters and alterations to infinity will be needed. A review is on this site.

  • Fanil

And what about adjusting the helios. Someone tried to share your experience

    • Maugli

44 Helios perfectly rises on Nikon with infinity. It takes a little desire and hands friendly with the file. There are a lot of "recipes" in the net. In short: you unscrew the native threaded flange from the helios with three or four screws. And screw in its place the m42-nikon adapter, in which you drilled similar holes according to the template from the native flange, do not forget to remove the chamfers. Place a spacer between the lens and the new mount to avoid skewing, you will understand the shape along the way. The diaphragm lead is locked. From the tool, a screwdriver or dremel, sandpaper. It took me an hour and a half, I did it for the first time.

    • Maugli

The working segment may not ideally coincide, but for portraiture this is enough. Much better than 1,5-2 meters without alteration.

  • Catherine

Good afternoon, thanks for the interesting article, I learned new nuances, although I already use 3200 decently.
Please tell me what the factory shutter mileage on this camera.

  • Incognito

    Brilliant articles.

  • Sasha

but I took it to my wife for my birthday, was in a hurry, but read hard, read read, and now I regret a little, for the same amount of money I could have taken a Canon EOS 5D, so this is a full-frame !!!!! so the choice is difficult with these photos, you just need to figure it out in order to buy successfully ... ..

  • Andrei

Hello, tell me please, is it possible to shoot a video for more than 20 minutes in a row, (40 minutes or 130 minutes a seminar or a lecture), what is the maximum permissible continuous shooting in time, please tell me something to shoot a video as much as possible and not kill a DSLR? Thank you so much for the answer.

    • Arkady Shapoval

You can shoot videos for 20 minutes (or less if the video file exceeds 4 GB). You can shoot videos one by one. It will be killed only with a very strong load (shooting all day long, for example).

      • Andrei

        Thanks again.

  • Sergei

Hello! I accidentally discovered such a moment. D3200 + 35mm. 1,8. There was not enough DOF in the room to shoot a group of guests. If you clamp in the aperture priority mode, then the ISO crawls strongly and the picture becomes bad. Forcibly set ISO 100 and not more. If without a flash, the shutter speed grows up to 3-4 seconds, but with a flash it fits into my 1/60 limit. In this case, the exposure bar is filled with minus signs. Clamped the aperture to f / 8. The result was an excellent sharp shot and it did not become dark as the exposure scale showed. And so it works up to the f / 22 minimum aperture. How is this possible? Of the flaws, I saw only the red-eye effect. Please explain why the frame did not become dark as indicated by exposure metering? Maybe I’m asking a stupid question, but this would give many people the opportunity to take high-quality photographs indoors at ISO 100. The machine will never let you do this.

The flash saved you. You set the minimum ISO, with the flash the maximum shutter speed is 1/60, the aperture is also fixed. Camera output - adjust the flash output. You decrease the aperture, the camera increases the flash output. But you shouldn't take pictures of people at ISO 100. Place 400-800. On the D3200, the noise is not very noticeable at this sensitivity. And metering just shows without taking into account the flash. Exposure metering and power adjustment occurs only after you have pressed the shutter.

Thank you for the clarification. It’s just that in the automatic machine, the flash also turns on, but it won’t allow you to take such a photo with the ISO as high as possible and set the most open aperture. In my case, it helped a lot to take pictures with a lack of lighting. I wonder if this has side effects or is it worse in the end?

Of course it works. Overall exposure is low, flash output is high. It turns out like on a soap dish - a strongly illuminated object and a black background, a strong flash hits the eyes and burns out shadows. Flash makes it easier to take pictures in M.

Sergey, you yourself need to understand what you want from the camera. Mode A allows you to control the depth of field, and in the menu you can set the maximum ISO that the camera will use (for example, 1600 or 800). If you shoot with a flash, then the lack of lighting will compensate for it. Another important method for you is metering. If matrix is selected, then the automation will select the power sufficient to illuminate the entire frame and the foreground may be overexposed. Therefore, center-weighted or spot metering may become preferable, in which an object can be more accurately illuminated, but the background is worse. An external flash in this case will give you more freedom.

I feel that these are common truths of manual settings. Now I understand how the flash works and what gives. And how will + - exposure compensation work in this case? What will the device do physically? Tell me please, does the built-in flash have a working resource? Do they break often? And whether it depends on the power of use.

            • Valentine

Exposure is controlled by shutter speed, aperture, and ISO. Correction will affect these parameters depending on the mode and settings of your camera. Simplified and for a simple case: mode A, you set the aperture and ISO, and the device selected the shutter speed X. Next, you set the correction, for example, +1, respectively, it lengthens the shutter speed 2 times. In S mode, the same, but with aperture. When auto-ISO is a little different, automation works. With flash too + there is still the possibility of flash correction. And the resource, of course, depends on the power and the number of trips, especially sequential tripping. The more intensively you use it (full power, successive puffs, just a high shooting frequency), the greater the chance of breakdown. This also applies to an external flash.

Thanks so much for the article. Very popular and intelligible.

Help me make the right choice, I’ve already broken my whole head.

Area of interest from macro to super macro / micro inanimate objects (e.g. match head). The amateur always has no money for special equipment and never will.
Now I use Nikon J3 mirrorless (14 megapixels) kit 10-30mm VR + macro ring kit + macro lens + 10. The optics are very sharp (clear lines of 2 pixels), but the lenses are unreliable. The second lens began to fail. Despite the fact that I’m not shooting so often.
    I’m looking at the D3200 24mpix DSLR.
What is IMPORTANT to me: chromatic aberration, geometric distortion (within reason), artistic picture, bokeh, beautiful tones and other troubles.
What I want to receive: a tough, technically sharp, as far as possible contrasting picture with details not worse than Nikon J3 (the more, the better).
In one place I can’t collect and test everything.

Which is better for me ?:
    a) Kit Nikkor af-s 18-55mm DX VR with macro rings
    b) Nikkor af-p 18-55 dx, but true without VR (problem) + macro rings
    c) Nikon kit 18-55, after a while order a full-frame macro fix AF Micro Nikor 60mm / 2.8D on the crop camera
    d) Canon 650D + kit 18-55mm + macro rings. For some reason, Kenon lenses are often written about what is worse than Nikon.
    d) Sony A58 / A390 kit + Vega11U or any projection lens. Sony is interested in the built-in stub.
    e) your option.

    Thank you.

With AF Micro Nikkor 60mm / 2.8D on the D3200 you will not have autofocus (if you need it). Nikon has excellent macro manuals, there are articles on this site. I think the best choice is a macro lens + macro rings or macro lens and light (macro lenses). Moreover, in the macro range, the coincidence of the working segments is not important, the same Nikkor can be used through the adapter on both Canon and Sony.

I have a whale D3200, I chose because of its compactness and it is really small, it does not take up much space on trips.
I would like to choose a lens for all occasions and I think to take a 35mm f / 1.8G, so the camera will become even more compact.
Is it normal to take landscapes / architecture / people / street photos with him at a time and everything that is usually taken during trips?

    • Valery A.

It’s not always normal, people / street photos can still be cropped with your feet if needed, and landscapes / archives may not have enough space to retreat. You yourself can appreciate the convenience of this FR by setting it on a whale 35mm and going for a walk to shoot without changing the focal length.

Hmm, what advise then? Aperture is necessary, and then with more at dusk and in cloudy weather you have to photograph.

    • Michael

As you like. In principle, this is a standard lens and it can handle most of the subjects.
