Overview I23U 4,5 / 110

I23U 4,5 / 110 (Industar-23U F4,5 110mm) - lens from the de-format photoУa magnifier. Made at the Lytkarinsky plant.

Due to the fact that the lens is designed to work with a photo enlarger, I23U 4,5 / 110 does not have a focus ring and thread under the filter. Using I23U 4,5 / 110 you can not focus. The lens has a thread mount M39. I used I23U 4,5 / 110 with 5 centimeters macro rings to achieve focus on infinity on CZK Nikon. As a primitive sharpening method, I used the easy twisting of the macro rings from each other. The lens has a 6-blade aperture, which can take the values F / 4.5, 5.6, 8, 11, 16. You can read how to use such lenses on modern cameras here.

Sample photos and image quality

The lens is not really designed for ordinary photography. Industar-23U F4,5 110mm does not tolerate backlight, is afraid of any light. Image contrast is very low. Typically, lenses with an optical design such as Tessar show good bokeh quality, but the bokeh on the Industar-23U F4,5 110mm turned out to be rather meager. The only advantage of the lens is the lack of vignetting when used on full-frame cameras. Sample photos have been finalized since the original pictures have very low contrast.

Personal experience

Industar-23U F4,5 110mm can be used for macro photography due to the fact that focusing is not particularly important for macro photography, and focusing can be done by zooming in or out of the camera from the subject. By the way, I have more reviews of similar lenses - Vega-5U 105 mm F4.0 и Amar 4,5 /105.

the meaning of such a review, followed by processing
judging even by the photo, they were not made by him))) such an impression

    • Arkady Shapoval

By increasing the contrast, the lens pattern does not deteriorate. Also, the meaning is in the description of the lens itself and the method of its use.

    • Alexey

You are kind of dark ... What do you mean, what's the point? The meaning of any review is to show the pros and cons of the monitored object, even if there are only minuses ... A person does a tremendous amount of work, thanks to which I and people like me can somehow navigate the flea markets ...
      Arkady - thanks!

      • Romeo

"You are kind of dark ..."
Vasily has f4.5 - it will be really dark!

For a long time, the fashion went to try on all kinds of technical and not very lenses. From security cameras, from film projectors from cinemas, from cinemas, night vision devices, microscopes (macro) and so on ...

  • smol4un

Your article really hung, I think you can attach anything to the camera as a lens. I like to read your site, every day I look for a new article.
Already I see the headings of the next article, we photograph through the bottom of the bottle.
Optical design 1 lens in 1 block, unforgettable bokeh, focus running-run away (legs, legs))))

    • Arkady Shapoval

Thanks for the idea, I went to choose the right bottle :)

      • Andrei

the bottom of the champagne bottle will be a great width with super distortion)))

    • R'RёS,R ° F "RёR№

I also wanted to joke about the unique drawing of a bag filled with water, but you beat me to it. I am sure that Arkady will take a picture of everyone that can let light through, and those that cannot still take off "on reflection", after that there will be a description of the process)))

  • Ivan

Thanks for your review. Although glass is not of interest, reading your articles is always very interesting. Anyone out there who like to express themselves, they say what's the point, or in general (I recently read one commentary) they say why put old "Soviet" lenses on the figure, make your blog and see your popularity.

  • Michael

Of course, such a lens can be perverted, but it's interesting to look at the result :) Is the pinhole camera next?
But seriously - thanks for the reviews! Few people write with their own examples and do not pretend to be an absolute truth. Development of the site and creative success !!!

    • Arkady Shapoval

      Thank you.

  • Konstantin

Hello! I look at your photos (EXIF), not even from this article, the question immediately arises of why you use such high ISO, and even in the afternoon (2 photos with a cat-toy)! ISO 1000 units, shutter speed 1/8000 s. Isn't it easier to reduce both? Moreover, you yourself wrote in one of the articles that you should try, if light allows, to use min ISO values!

    • Arkady Shapoval

You don’t always have time to rebuild the ISO, in this case with the F / 16 aperture a high ISO was required, and then you forget to lower it elementarily, it’s good that the D700 does not feel the differences so much.

  • Juniper

It would be interesting to see a macro from him

    • Arkady Shapoval

I have only one set of rings, I need a couple more for macro.

  • Stas

I will tell you this, the site is not commercial, but how much gives FREE information, read and rejoice, go out !!!!!!

  • Juniper

It’s probably good for macro work

    • nukemall

Very much. Although 90U and 100U are even better. There are also apochromatic lenses for magnifiers (eg APO Rodagon), those in general in macro photography the current autofocus junk with internal focusing (like Canon 100 / 2.8) "tear like a hot water bottle". If you find fur with tilt-shift, it turns out quite well.

      • Sergey

No need to carry nonsense !!
There apo is just a marketing ploy.
Canon macro 100 2,8 these rodenstocks vomit with a whistle….

  • Destroy

the pictures are also quite interesting ... I am even shocked a little by the result of such a lens :)

    • Arkady Shapoval

It's funny, but about my reviews of such trinkets Vega-5U 105mm F4.0, Amar 4,5 / 105 and a few more, there were practically no comments.

  • Centuries

on the side this lens reminds me of something))))))))

    • Arkady Shapoval

      Thor's hammer?

  • Centuries

Well, you can call it that)))

  • nukemall

Since when did the Tessars “show good bokeh”? Bokeh they always had a hard, "rattling". Contrast is added by blackening the ends of the lenses - there are only three of them, there is not much work. I usually blacken with a solvent marker, if with alcohol, the cleaning agents are dissolved. You can also blacken the diaphragm. The technique is here: http://nukemall.livejournal.com/60011.html

    • Romeo

It has long been clear to everyone that arguing about bokeh is a very “exciting” activity)).
If a person wrote “good bokeh” then it is for him. He likes it, and I also like it, there is nothing you can do about it. ))

  • Alexey

Arkady, yesterday I tried I23u for Nikon 3000 with all the adapters, and I won’t catch his focus on the rings. Do not share in what range it is? How did you achieve focus and how did you achieve infinity ??

    • Arkady Shapoval

See the macro rings in the last picture? With such macro rings (about 5 cm) the lens is focused on about 1-1.5 meters.

  • Alexey

Sorry, but how is the house rented so sharply ??? there 10-12 meters

    • Arkady Shapoval

The macro ring was different, shorter.

  • Eugene

And I just connected the I23U to 50mm f1.8d and in this way you can get quite an interesting macro) Although not of the best quality, but it turns out quite interesting)
At the same time, it is “screwed in” like a light filter - which allows without any adapters, etc. use it, autofocus and exposure metering works on my D90.

  • Igor T.

I shot it with the help of macro-fur.
It is quite possible to shoot from macro to infinity.
Somewhat inconvenient due to the bulkiness of the design, but it turned out quite well as a result.
    Very sharp, nice bokeh.

  • Vyacheslav

Very interesting thing, be sure to purchase it.

  • Alex

I used this lens as follows: Through an adapter 39-42 I screwed it onto a Soviet double-stretch macromech. And the macro fur through the adapter SonyA-M42 to the mirrors SonyA100 and SonyA77. And he was sharpened by moving the slide of the macromech. At the same time, it turned out both infinity and a quite decent macro. With macro shooting, the distance to the object was pretty decent due to the large focal length, which is important when shooting for example insects. With enough light, it turned out to be removed from the hands. The sharpness of it, like that of any lens calculated for a magnifier, is quite decent especially at an aperture of about 8. The picture is peculiar. I liked the lens. Thanks for the review.))

  • Alexey R

The same situation with the CANON 60D. Soviet fur with a quality mark, works great with the I23U, even with it. It looks unusual, but you quickly get used to it and it’s convenient to aim.

  • Hope

Thanks for the review. And then today I came across this miracle and could not understand what kind of person he was.

  • Ганс

thanks for the information! I had such a magnifier for a long time, now with the acquisition of the NX2000 I was going to look for this lens from him, but I feel that this is problematic. After reading the article, I decided that the sheepskin is not worth the candle. but I found Lomo T-22 4,5 / 75 from an amateur 166 (and the top sight with 1 lens). Do you think they can be adapted somehow?

  • AlexandrBu

I found one in the Bologna! Dismantled and assembled, it seems not correct to have a scheme?

  • patriot

It is strange to humiliate the lens. After all, “Moscow-2” also has a film like Industar 23, and the pictures are excellent. Maybe it's time to think that digital cameras are just g….

Just today, dabbled in a macro lens from this lens, attaching it to a Jiayu G4S phone. Quite a decent macro!
