Canon EOS 5D review

Canon EOS 5D - this is a legendary old full frame semi-professional camera (or advanced amateur - as it is convenient to count), which was produced from 2005 to 2008. My version made in japan. Canon 5D became the third camera after Canon EOS 1DS и Canon EOS 1Ds Mark II with a full-frame sensor, the Canon EOS 5D is the first in a new class of professional cameras with a lightweight body (often referred to as 'semi-pro'). Canon EOS 5D has direct descendants: this 5D MarkII, 5D Mark III и 5D Mark IV... Canon EOS 5D is often referred to simply as'first dime'or' 5D classic '.

The Canon EOS 5D has a 13.3 MP CMOS sensor, of which only 12.8 MP, which by today's standards is not so much, but 12.8 MP is enough for comfortable shooting of most photo tasks. I rarely find it necessary to use cameras with a large number of megapixels. Canon EOS 5D Captures Images 4368 by 2912 pixels (total - 12.719.616 pixels), which is enough to print pictures even on the A3-A4 format. I rarely print pictures larger than 20 x 30 cm.

Canon EOS 5D can use ISO from 100 to 1600 and expand the range to a value ISO L (ISO 50), ISO H (ISO 3200). Today you won’t surprise anyone with ISO 3200, even modern Canon cropped cameras with APS-C format sensors, for example Canon 650D, can overclock their ISO up to 25.600. But still, I want to pay tribute to the old lady Canon EOS 5D: unlike the 'inflated' ISO values of many cropped cameras, the Canon EOS 5D can actually use its ISO 1600 and even ISO 3200. In terms of noise level, the Canon EOS 5D still bypasses a lot. (if not all!) cropped cameras, such as Canon 7D, Nikon D300, Pentax K5Sony SLT-A65 etc.

Canon 5D with booster

Canon 5D with booster and Canon Lens EF 50mm 1: 1.4 lens

Canon EOS 5D can shoot at speed 3 frames per second. Some argue that the speed is around 3.5 to \ s. The camera shows in the lower right corner. frame bufferequal to 9 shots (8 frames when using the ISO extended range function), but when shooting in Drive mode, you can take about 17-20 pictures in RAW format until the camera starts to slow down. In JPEG L mode, a series of shots reaches 60 frames. Generally, pretty large real frame buffer I was pleasantly surprised.

But when shooting in RAW + JPEG mode, after filling in the frame buffer, the camera goes into a stupor for a long time. In this mode, the buffer is 12 shots, the camera takes the next frame in only 10-15 seconds, which is an eternity! Using a fast memory card does not solve the problem.

Canon EOS 5D can use RAW (CR2) format only with 12 bit depth of color. RAW (CR2) files average 11 to 19 MB. JPEG L files are 2 to 10 MB on average. Canon EOS 5D uses fast cards CF. My Canon EOS 5D easily made friends with a memory card CF Transcend 32GB 400x and Transcend 32GB 133x.

Important: The data recording speed, which depends on the camera itself, is very low on the Canon EOS 5D and this cannot be corrected by using a faster memory card. One RAW file weighing about 10 MB, the camera records about one second even with the fastest CF cards.

Canon 5D Display

Canon 5D Display

I liked the Canon EOS 5D excellent ergonomicsa, large monochrome backlit secondary display. The camera weighs about 900 grams with the battery and without the lens. Almost a kilogram of weight is not scary. Canon EOS 5D does not have a dust and water resistant body. Camera display 2.5 inch with 230.000 points. When working with the display, I noticed that it reproduces the real color rather poorly in the obtained photos - it is too faded. The camera's menu is quite simple, it is very easy to understand it, in this camera it became available in Russian as well.

Canon EOS 5D supports shutter speeds from 30 s to 1 \ 8000 s. For measuring exposure 35-zone sensor responds, a large number of amateur Canon cameras have a similar sensor, more about it here.

Canon 5D has just 9 focus points (and 6 more invisible auxiliary)... In the Custom Functions menu, I recommend adjusting the focus point selection with the joystick. You can read more about the focusing system installed on the Canon 5D in the 'Canon EOS Camera Focus Sensors'.

But the Canon 5D has a good large optical viewfinder with 96% coverage, working with such a viewfinder is pretty nice. The battery holds up to 1000 shots, which is pretty good.

Sample Photos

All sample photos located in the gallery below were obtained using a Canon EOS 5D camera and lens YONGNUO 50mm 1: 1.4. Some photos were taken using a polarizing filter. HOYA 58mm PL-CIR.

Personal experience

Canon EOS 5D can be regarded as used. camera option for people who want to immediately start shooting at full frame. In nature there is no cheaper and more practical option for a full-frame camera. Although, for about the same cost you can find Canon EOS-1DS. Personally, I think Canon EOS 5D is preferable Canon EOS-1DS due to its smaller size, lithium-ion battery, larger display, larger frame buffer, more adequate work with memory cards and, most importantly, more flexible capabilities for processing RAW files.

Among the shortcomings of the Canon EOS 5D, I would like to note the absence of the Live View mode, which is very useful when working with manual optics, and the small number of focus points. At the same time, the camera does not have fine adjustment of automatic focus. True, Canon EOS 5D supports replacement focusing screens.

Many people complain that the camera sensor gets dirty quickly - Canon EOS 5D does not have a matrix cleaning system. Also in the camera no HDR, built-in flash, automatic ISO control in modes P, Av, Tv, M and many modern 'gadgets'. Many photographers have easily and painlessly switched to Canon 5D after crop cameras. Personally, I liked the color rendering of the Canon 5D much more than the color rendering on my 'workhorse' - Nikon D700.

At one time, I made a mistake - instead of Canon EOS 5D (even in the used version) I bought another cropped camera. Now i highly recommend to all novice photographers who are limited in funds and who do not need various 'gadgets', including video filming, instead of buying a 'mediocre' cropped camera, get a used one. Canon EOS 5D (not new). I think that for the growth of a photographer, immediately shooting in full frame is very, very important and useful. If you are looking for some interesting and inexpensive camera with a 'beautiful pattern', then I recommend looking at the 'Legends go to battle', as well as 'Full Frame with 28 megapixels for 240 cu :)'

Conclusions

Nowadays, the Canon EOS 5D is morally obsolete, but still attracts with its full-frame sensor and affordable price per second. option. Canon 5D only requires full-frame Ef lenses. Canon EOS 5D even nowadays shows a great picture at low ISO. Many appreciate it for its nice color rendering.

Hello. Please tell me the price of checking the mileage in a service center in Moscow, how much time and which service centers in Moscow are cheaper? thanks

  • Alexander

Hello. Tell Arkady if there are a lot of pixels burning on the matrix. for example, at a shutter speed of 20 seconds. pieces of 70 burning pixels. at a shutter speed of 1 second there are 10 somewhere. mileage of the camera is 6 thousand frames with a native shutter. Is it worth taking such a device? Will the matrix remap help or is it likely that they will appear again? thanks

    • Not Arkady but I know a little

The maximum of hot pixels is ten !!!!! Not what kind of remapping is needed! Throw it away!
In general, if you take it without any broken or hot pixels !!!!

      • Arkady Shapoval

        Why not 11?

    • Denis

I understand that it is no longer relevant, but these are trifles. in the same place the camera has a mode when it itself extinguishes (not even with software such as lightroom) such things as Nikon calls “long exposure noise suppression”. Arkady wrote about this. 2 frames are taken with the same exposure (more precisely, readout from the matrix), but one of them with the shutter closed. this is all because at a shutter speed of 20 seconds there will always be burning pixels, which at normal shutter speeds (for example, 1 / 30s) work normally

  • anonym

Hello dear photographers! Help make the right choice: Canon 5d + 28-105 usm or Nikon d7000 + 18-105 vr? The difference in ergonomics, convenience, etc. more or less understandable, only the picture quality for an amateur photo with a growth perspective is of interest.

    • Michael

      For what? Goals?

    • Novel

If that's the only choice, then the D7000. Although I am an avid Canon user and thought for a long time about buying the first one, I changed my mind on common sense - I took the second one. This despite the fact that I wanted to indulge in a full frame in addition to 7D II and already have a fleet of EF lenses. By today's standards, I cannot imagine him as the first camera.

The 5D has a terrible display, 9 focus points (cross-type only center), low rate of fire and no video at all. Working ISO - 800. In fact, of the advantages today, only a full frame. But this is a rather dubious advantage and cannot be an end in itself.

The D7000 is weatherproof, a screwdriver, 9 cross points, higher ISO, has a video. 18-105, perhaps, better than 28-105 will be, plus a stabilizer.

    • Novel

The picture quality is a head with hands, glass (up to a certain limit) and processing. The convenience of the camera, the noise level (if you have to shoot in the dark) and the quality-focusing speed are important from the camera. For the reporter, perhaps, the rate of fire (D7000 is better here - 6 frames versus 3). D7000 will be just MORE CONVENIENT. 5D now is either very cheap or frankly indulging. Yes, one more minus, it does not have a shutter counter, so that the copy can be killed in the trash. Considering the age of the camera (2005-2009) this can be significant. Nikon, too, on this score would not hurt.

      • Pokemon

With the D7000, mileage is easily verified. And the D7000 was more often bought for amateur needs, and not for wear work.
D7000 enough for Avito and ebee in good condition with low mileage.

      • Paul

How is it not a counter? they sell cameras on olx and indicate the number of shutter releases, there are online services, you drop a photo and show how many times the shutter worked

        • Novel

5D Classic does not set the number of shutter releases (perhaps this is done at Canon service centers). Therefore, the cat is in the bag, even adjusted for age. And changing the shutter now will be problematic, perhaps, and then only worse.

    • a guest

      D7000 definitely

    • Alexander

You cannot compare a sub-frame camera to a cropped one. At least because of the difference in the equivalent focal length of the optics for a full frame and crop, which is a hundred times more important than all buffer speeds, focus points, etc. Understanding these nuances, photographers will understand me. True, not many of these remain.

  • anonym

Recommend a full-time autofocus lens on the Canon 5D, the budget is limited. I am considering options for yongnuo 35mm, canon 50 mm 1.8 or canon 28-105 3,5-4,5 usm II, I want to take the canon 70-210 F4 as the second lens. I would be grateful for the advice or other options you proposed.

    • Andrey T.

Cheap dark lenses (both two) - not for 5D; You simply won't see the potential of the camera with such lenses.

    • Novel

The 50 / 1.8 STM is an excellent high-aperture staff. Sharp and decent. But the wide angle will be sorely missed. You can look in the direction of 40 / 2.8 - fifty dollars wider and higher than the zoom, but then the next lens should be something like 85 / 1.8

Darkzuma is debatable. In the end, during the release of 5D, these dark zooms were used - and nothing. Just keep in mind that these are lenses for the outdoors and for sunny weather.

I would take 50 and 70-210 or 40 and 70-210. The budget fast telephoto, alas, is from the realm of fiction.

      • Andrey T.

If for the author the "staff" is located in the range of 35-50 mm, then the best option for him really will be Canon 40 \ 2.8. And about “used - and nothing”, well, yes, the third grade, as you know, is not a marriage.

      • Alexander

About a budget high-aperture telephoto lens ... sigma 70-200 2.8 apo sell nothing. But 1.2 kg in weight. Can be found for 17-20. I just don't know what the budget is. Cheaper with such a hole never met.

      • Novel

There is a chic pump-action Canon 50-200 / 3.5-4.5L. An excellent lens in terms of color reproduction due to the presence of fluorite elements in the optical scheme and mega convenient in terms of focal length range.

    • Pokemon

From myself I will offer Sigma 28-70 / 2.8 EX DG, Sigma 24-70 / 2.8 EX DG HSM or if I’m very lucky to find a dumb (whether fungus, or aging of the inner group of lenses) and a live Canon 28-70 / 2.8 L. The third option is the most expensive, the oldest and such in good condition is difficult to find. Or you can, but for the price of two used Sigma listed above.

      • Andrey T.

If there is a desire to get the brand Canon color to the maximum (for which, in fact, 5D is acquired first of all), then with Sigma, IMHO, there will be certain losses in this regard.

        • Pokemon

You may be right, but the Sigma 24-70 EX DG is really a good lens and does not suffer a yellowing shift like previous versions. And in the secondary market, it costs very humane money for a lens with aperture of 2.8.

          • Andrey T.

I agree, it’s not bad, but under 5D Classic, I need to choose lenses, in my opinion, very carefully if you want to get the most out of it.

            • 5DM1-1DSM2-shooter

under a nickle only with 1.4 or 1.2 !! 50 / 1.4 will roll from the rogue and only relatives, no tampo-sigma

              • Novel

Yes, you are sick. It is clearly written that the budget is limited. The penny was bought only because it is the most budgetary full frame. What 1.2? What color? Where did all these show-off come from? If you need to choose lenses “very carefully” for an old camera, isn't it easier to buy a new camera?

              • kotofei

Actually 1,8 STM gives a better picture than 1.4 USM
Essno, we compare both on tightened to F2.5-2.8
And let's talk about the rogue when the crisis in our heads ends - ok?

      • Andrey T.

PS And with Yongnuo 35, these losses will be quite tangible

    • Alexander

      Good afternoon.
I had yongnuo 35mm 2.0, but on sony 7 through an adapter. Gave a good sharp picture in the open, but there were problems with autofocus. Sold it to a man with 5dm3. He is pleased. Focusing is quiet and fast. Nobody knows how long this lens will work.
But on the canon 5D itself, I really liked the work of this TAMRON SP AF 28-75 mm F / 2.8 XR Di LDAspherical. Now it costs from 8 to 11k live. At home, not light conditions with the "vaunted" 5D focusing system, I did not experience any discomfort. It is small and lightweight. If you need a lighter staff, you can find the SIGMA 50 mm 1.4. EX DG HSM, but they say that you need to choose carefully, because. range in quality and front and back focus. Prices from 9 to 12 on average. I immediately got a normal one, but outwardly not very much. With him, too, everything is fast, but from 1.4 to 1.6. does not always get to the right place, or I just did not take into account the depth of field, well, or is it a jerk. by 1.8. and then all the rules.
If not quite a budget solution, then the same kenon 25-105 with a stub or sigma 24-105 f4 ART it with a stub.

  • Alexander

Question to the 5d experts .. didn’t anyone try to hang sigma 50 mm 1.4 art on it? I used to have it on Sonya, but I sold it. I'm sorry now. Does it even take it under the nickel? Will there be a difference in comparison with the usual fifty dollars from sigma? on Sonya he was sharp with an open.

    • Andrey T.

Here a man writes about this bunch: Personally I love this set up. I also have a 5D Mark III and use it on that as well, the image quality of the Classic 5D is very good compared to the 5D Mark III. Just make sure your exposure is as close to your style ie Light and Airy vs. Dark and Moody. Otherwise if you try to adjust your exposure say by one stop in your preferred editing program you might get some color banding or funky colors. https://www.flickr.com/groups/2471391@N20/discuss/72157649311891224/ Those. he likes it, moreover, more than the same Sigma with 5D Mark III. Only, he writes, there is no need to make mistakes with the exposure ...

      • Andrey T.

PS Sorry, not "more", but comparable to M3

    • Joe

I occasionally use Canon EOS 5D + Sigma 50mm F1.4 DG HSM Art. The photos are beautiful. The lens itself is sharp with an open lens, it focuses well and stably, including with the 5D, in addition, it is with the 5D, thanks to the good optical qualities of the lens (including good contrast), photos are vivid and “voluminous”.

  • Andrey T.

Allegedly "healthy", who believe that 5D Classic is acquired by everyone solely out of poverty, are greatly mistaken. Investments in lenses are justified for him. In my experience, good manual fixes in the price range up to $ 500. he is quite worthy and fulfills them properly.

    • Novel

It is purchased because it still delivers comparable quality and full frame under normal shooting conditions for a reasonable price. This is the only reason, if not counting the esoteric infatuation with “color”, “skin tone” and other heresy from the category of “warm tube sound”. A camera and lenses for it are not an end in themselves, but a means of solving certain problems.

      • Andrey T.

Did you shoot on it, or are you talking like in general? - Judging by the statement about the working iso not higher than 800, the answer is negative.

        • Novel

Each has its own ISO performance criteria. Photos are also in the habit of being processed - the exposure is pulled up for the task, the cut-off pattern changes, and so on. To the question of the "cinematic picture", by the way, which is 90% provided with color, which is killed to hell and brought to the one that is needed. How does 5D cope with this? You answered yourself - “the picture is comparable to 5D3 - not better, it is exactly comparable - provided that it is in the exposure”. That is, just pull the shadows a little - you get noise. Okay, look for your perfect photographer with the perfect lens that will produce perfect shots.

5D is a good camera. Still a good camera down. With the obligatory prefix "for your money and for your tasks." Don't deify him. Already passed with the divine film.

          • Andrey T.

I didn't see an answer to the question about practical communication with 5D. That is, as expected, it is negative. About “comparable” I wrote, firstly, not by me, but by a person with a flicker, and, secondly, not in general, but in conjunction with a specific lens. Now about ISO. It, of course, as the unforgettable Leonid Ilyich used to say, “everyone has their own emotion,” but much more experienced and professional people than you and I define 1600 at 5D as quite working: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9YIGdopkYIw Yes, the picture is worse than on 5DM4 (and someone expected otherwise?), But ISO 1600 is not inoperative. So you don't have to talk nonsense about your own criteria. At the same time, I note a strange manner of discussing: I did not write anything about deification, skin tone and warm tube sound, and I don’t need to attribute such vulgarity to me. About color - yes, I did, but the Internet is full of high ratings for 5D color, so this is not my know-how.

            • Novel

I had enough ravok, pixelpeeper and detailed reviews. Including this one. In which one statement runs like a red thread - look, for HERE SUCH shooting conditions (day, unhurried) it is quite possible to do with THIS set (cheaper) and get comparable results. At the same time, they specifically took 50 / 1.2 in the 5D4 bundle, making the comparison even more incorrect, but the price is sky-high.

So, after digging around, I set for myself the working limit of ISO800. Anything above is just because I can. I do not know how he compares a photo - JPEG with on-camera noise reduction, which is also reduced in resolution to the screen size or post-processing, but in this case, 3200 is the "working" ISO, visually the noise is not very noticeable, and the difference is visible only when comparing side side by side in detail at night, rarely given importance. These are subjective assessments. With any serious processing the level (shooting a portrait in low light followed by D&B), the noise level will be unacceptable. Walking down the street and taking pictures of flowers and cars is ok, even at 3200.

As, by the way, your legendary “color” is subjective. For me, there is no such criterion as “high color rating”. What is it? Accuracy of color reproduction when processing equal images with intra-camera algorithms? White Balance Accuracy? A certain type of distortion in one of the channels? Different dynamic range?

              • Michael

Well, that's right, ISO800 is the limit for him. Then how lucky

    • 1Ds_Mk3

IMHO, it makes no sense now to invest in first-movers. Too loose and a lot of dead machines. It is better to look for fresh 1Ds_Mk2 or 1Ds_Mk3 or even more so 1DX / 1DH_mk2.
In units there is EVERYTHING. And color and skinton and cinema picture. But you need a good lens.
Unfortunately, the spare parts for 1Ds_mk2 are no longer in the services. There is still 1Ds_mk3.
It's funny, but the mileage of 1Ds_mk2 can still be found out, while 1Ds_mk3 has the same problem as the first-timer - the mileage is displayed incorrectly.

      • Andrey T.

The units are good, but they are different. And yes, they are more demanding on optics. In this regard, 5D has a wider range of possibilities; for example, I'm not sure that a number of projection lenses that work great on the first-timer will do the same on units. Plus, few are even more demanding of the photographer, although 5D in this sense is far from simple. When I look at the products of some of the owners of units, I am only amazed - I would never have believed that such a wonderful camera can shoot so disgusting ...

  • Alexander

Hello. A very interesting discussion of the first dime. I myself recently bought it for a modest 10k with one joint. The screen needs to be changed. Produces colors ... how to say, like an inversion or something. The new one is already going for 500. Replacing yourself in 10 minutes without straining. But these are all small things. In general, I also have a sony 7m2. Kenon never was and just wanted to see what kind of beast. My personal opinion is that in 2019, with mega fotik available for different prices, this one is still competitive. But if you take the tasks that were solved on Sonya simply and quickly, then on the kenon it is already more difficult and slower. The test in the same conditions with the same lenses showed that Sonya easily shoots at dark (4.5-5.6) zooms easily on ISO 1600-3200 at home and noise is easily removed. The same dark zoom on the kenon refused to focus. It was dark for him. With glasses 2.8 and lighter, he works quickly. But what the 5D cannon does better than Sonya is soft female portraits. And not on the native Keno optics. But the bold minus of the ZK kenon in comparison with the Sony's UPC is, of course, all sorts of back and front tricks. This is not on Sonya. Also, of course, there is no stub. On the first, there were a lot of smears in AV mode. Now, having made a little friendship, I shoot only in M. True, at 50 mm I managed to take a normal picture for children at a shutter speed of 1/20, but there are not many of them. Better with a margin of 1/100 and shorter. What's more ... lightweight conon EF 100-300 USM lenses are difficult to work with. The carcass is heavy and the glass is light. Better than glass type sigma art. They weigh almost everything or more than the carcass itself. And in the hands it is convenient. I also noticed one feature or it seemed ... the 5D kenon has more volume in the photos. On Sonya, I got these when using puff in the ceiling, but here it is right away.
Recently, I’m only shooting on the canon. Sonya is waiting for a corporate party or a children's party. There she is good. In general, friends, good fotik. Personally, I liked it. I do not feel love or sympathy for any company. It was played with Samsung and Nikon and even with sigma dp2. In each, something was and is interesting. Good photos to all.

Good afternoon. Tell me - I'm a beginner, I bought a kenon - 1100d, and now there is an opportunity to buy instead of either 5d or 350d or 600d ... tell me what to choose ... I shoot mainly landscapes, nature, sometimes city and sports - trying different things I decide for myself in preferences ... and the purchase is inevitable - I would not like to miscalculate…. Thanks.

      • Novel

What exactly is wrong with the 1100D? And what lenses are available. Based on this, you need to look where to move next - crop or full frame.

350D is definitely worse than 1100D, the matrix is smaller, the video can not, it makes no sense to exchange.
600D - nice prosumer, get a rotating screen. If you change it to something fundamentally, I would look towards the 7D - a much better focusing system, more frames per second, it's convenient for sports and waterproof - it's convenient for hiking landscapes.

The 5D only makes sense if you have a set of full-frame optics. And also understanding why. You will get less noise when shooting in the dark, a larger viewfinder and a shallower depth of field at the cost of a bunch of compromises (even compared to the 1100D - no video, no LiveView, worse screen).

Perhaps it is better to invest in lenses, and postpone the purchase of the camera until later. Canon has good native lenses for crop, which are much cheaper than full-frame originals, while much smaller and lighter, and they can compete optically.

      • anonym

Kenon 10-18 is stm if you shoot a lot of landscape and 85mm canon for portraiture, and the camera is a secondary matter. The first stub works well and you can not raise iso above 800, on your 1100d

      • Joe

After 1100D, of the cameras you listed, 5D is the best. Even with the simplest inexpensive lens like the Canon EF 50mm 1.8 II, you will see a difference in color and detail - I have both the 1100D and the 5D, and good 5D photos are much easier to take.

    • Georgy

      Good afternoon!
      I have a similar problem with a 5d screen.
Tell me a resource where you can learn more about solving the problem.

  • Andrey T.

Here is another comparison of 5D with 5DMIV from the aforementioned Pablo Strong, who walked the link above on YouTube with the same cameras in London at night, but this time in normal daylight. https://www.diyphotography.net/the-original-canon-5d-goes-up-against-the-5d-mark-iv-in-this-street-portrait-comparison/ It is clear that the eye is used to the Classic, but I like the pictures from it more. And this despite the fact that I am rather skeptical about Canon's fifty kopecks 1.8 (I worked in conjunction with 5D), and on 5DMIV I filmed at 50 \ 1.2. And I'm not the only eccentric - there are still such people in the comments.

    • Alexander

Interesting comparison. And what kind of thing is he wearing on his penny pen?

      • Andrey T.

By the method of elimination (not GPS, not an electronic viewfinder), it turns out that it is still a flash or camera light. On the top panel there is sometimes a display and something like a long Panasonic inscription, but you definitely cannot make out ...

        • Alexander

If there is a flash, then why is it in the afternoon on the street? Or he’s just dressed and he didn’t use it? Isn't it soft boxing? It is not very visible. I read somewhere that the flash helps with the oncoming set or something. Not strong yet in this topic

          • Andrey T.

Using a flash (if it's a flash) in daytime street photography is almost a classic. But there is no flash during descent. Although from the photographs I would say that the backlight on the frames with 5D is more likely to be present - it is too good that he takes 50 \ 1.8 shots. In general, there is some kind of trick ...

      • Novel

        This is a GoPro camera.

        • Andrey T.

Thank you - for this part I am a dark person.

  • Andrei

I am always pleased to read your reviews. They are some convincing, vital. And the links to the stores are correct. I bought a camera in the mail. Thanks!

  • anonym

They offer 5d in excellent condition for $ 200. Should I take it? Just for home, video is not necessary, there is optics for kenon.

    • Pokemon

If the camera is really in excellent condition and you are confident in the seller, then yes, you can take it. In extreme cases, this is a liquid product and you can easily sell it at flea markets without losing money.

  • anonym

there were all four brands. IMHO:
best in color is Mark 2
    best in convenience Mark 4
The Canon 5D is closest in color to the Mark 2.
Mark 3 (the same matrix in 6D) differs in semitones from both Mark 2 and 1 and from 4.
If you need a full frame, good color and a very limited budget, then the Canon 5D is a great choice.
Nikon D700 - no offense! - much worse in color than all brands.

    • 1Ds_mk3

I agree with you about the D700 and partly on the Marks.
It is a pity that Arkady has not yet made reviews on all Pyataks starting from the second and almost all ones.
It will be very interesting to listen to his opinion.

  • Rutin1984

I bought Canon 5D, I can not understand. How to move exposure in plus or minus mode in AV mode? On 5dM2, I’m quietly setting everything up, and on this camera there’s a straight dark forest

    • Alexey

Just after the focus and exposure metering, spin the wheel, which is next to the screen, under the thumb in one direction or another. Exposure adjustment 1/3 of the stop is displayed in the viewfinder and on the small BW screen on the right.
      In my opinion, very convenient.

  • Matthew

Oh, who would teach me how to shoot like that (((

    • Michael

Learn) Watch, analyze and, most importantly, shoot. To teach this in a month is (conditionally) unrealistic. It all comes with experience

  • Alexander

Hello weight. A lot of time has passed, and the patch pleases everything. A couple of weeks ago I tested it at my daughter's concert in the same conditions where I shot a dark zoom with a sony a7-2 + cabon ef 100-300, but for Sonya this is not a problem. Canon took the oldest from the sigma 70-200 2.8 apo. Well, and a monopod, otherwise it's hard and there is no stub. I resize all the photos to 3-4 MP, all the same, everyone looks on mobile phones ... the most interesting thing is that on ISO 1000-1600 with hole 2.8, very nice and voluminous photos turned out. The mothers of the children were delighted ... I was not very much, but in general I liked it ... .. there was also a850 .. also good, but did not go after the canon, although the color of the Sony is excellent .. now I changed the a850 to everyone discussed d700. , but in terms of control and ergonomics, it is better than a penny and a850 .. but not immediately, but after a couple of days. These are the things friends. Have a great weekend and good photos. Weather 🔥

  • Andrei

Good day. Such a question, what is better to buy 7d or 5d (ff) as a spare camera. The most budget full frame or still crop, their price is the same. Thanks.

    • B. R. P.

Watching for what purpose. For reporting, for example 7d.

    • Andrei

7d of the first and last releases differ in colors. Somehow I read that something was brought in them. Look for the latest series, it is noticeably more colorful. I had both, on the same optics they gave different results. Well, in general, the picture is nicer

  • Taras

Hello. Please tell me which lenses are suitable for this camera? Which are wide-angle? And then in matrices, etc. I am not strong. Thanks.

  • Maria

Interestingly, no one faced a similar problem with 5D MarkII: the fifty dollars infinity disappears. At first I sinned on the lenses themselves. Moreover, they focus far enough, but from 30-40 meters are gone. The same lens (though with a lens) on Nikon works fine.

I would like to refer it to the service, but I don’t know how it will be more efficient to do so that we immediately figure out whether the reason was in the lenses or not. The fact is that Kenon was bought for a manual lens, and with af it was never tried.
If I understand correctly the essence of carcass alignment, then you still need to try the camera with the lens. I really don't want to buy a modern Canon lens just to check whether it has infinity on this carcass or not ...

    • Michael

Is it missing or was it missing? Inaccuracy in the manufacture of the adapter is the most likely problem

      • Maria

        Thank you!

No, from the very first test on the day of buying the lenses - I test it right away, I just can't decide where to go to the address: to carry the lenses for "rework". Or carry the carcass to the service, but then the question is,

Is it worth it to wait and still buy a standard Canon lens and try with it.

An interesting alternative to Chinese adapters. If they still work with the M42, then the QMB bayonet comes with some kind of left-hand one on request. On the mount itself it is fastened quite tightly, and between the lens and the adapter, the “coupling” periodically disappears when you try to sharply focus or close the diaphragm. And then the lens flies out freely from the adapter socket. Although there are no special fastening options, so that it is so fatal to screw it up incorrectly

        • BB

Try to borrow a "native" lens from a friend, or ask a thrift store to try it ("check" before buying). Usually, Canon has no problems with infinity. Maybe you came across some too thick adapter?

          • Maria

            Vv, Michael, thanks!

There is another option - ask Santa Claus))

        • Michael

It’s worth the wait. You can simply take your own lens through a rental and drive. This is the cheapest option.

          • Maria

Is there a difference - SHU or the same fifty dollars?

It’s just that some tambourines on the network claim that it will be more reliable.
But without a knowledge base I can not refute this information)

            • BB

What is SHU? Wide angle? On wide-angle optics, it is more difficult to determine the hit. The easiest way to check for fast optics (F = 1,4-1,8-2,0) is 50-85-100mm.
And the "sawed down" under Nikon Helios may have a "flight" for infinity.

              • Maria

There’s almost no problem with Nikon, but there’s a lens.
Yes, wide-angle (sorry for the jargon)

No, there are no problems on Nikon, it just so happened.

                Thank you.

            • Michael

At a wide-angle, infinity just comes earlier and that’s it. More reliable on high-aperture optics. The same fifty dollars will be something to compare)

              • Maria

                Thank you!

  • Maria

    Good afternoon!
I am very glad that I did not get hung up on Nikon, and I took this camera second.

Just on the advice I bought my own optics for the test - 40mm 2.8 https://radojuva.com/2013/10/canon-ef-40mm-2-8-stm/
At first I tried in poor lighting, but here I was able to shoot completely by chance to shoot portraits in home lighting. And the camera opened.

I wanted to try some kind of high-aperture Canon fifty on it. What would you advise to rent for the fifth model? Something from their L series. In general, I hardly know the Canon line, I have heard a lot of negativity, as in my office novel I realized that you need to barge.
Or maybe portrait painters with another fr are any interesting in themselves?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

  • Oleg

A laptop with Win 7 does not see the camera via USB - the first time it was connected, it wrote “no drivers found”. It also does not connect to a smartphone via OTG. Nikon D70 of the same years ended up quietly with the laptop and with all the phones.

What actions? Download driver (which one) or just buy a card reader? I did not think that such problems would arise, given how calmly the laptop saw the D70.

    • B. R. P.

Try installing Kenon native software (Digital Photo Professional).

      • Oleg

On the offsite it says that 5d is no longer supported on the 7th windows (So this program is unlikely to help.

    • Arkady Shapoval

I have seen WIN 7 5d. Just try to insert the card in d70 and transfer it through d70.

  • valentine

As far as I know, the first nickle is the only professional camera in this line, the best professional camera is 2006-2007, with the release of 5D Mark ll, the line of subsequent cameras was assigned to the floor as professional cameras. We read the official website of Canon, or Wikipedia.

    • Ivan

There are no women half pregnant. There are no semi-professional cameras. There are professional and amateur. Among amateur ones there are simple and “advanced”, that is, low and high level.

  • kolodiazniy

    Arkady!
Why is there still no Mark II review?

    • Arkady Shapoval

      Will be soon

      • Azake

        are looking forward to!

  • Azake

and the second nickle has the same picture? even on a so-so Chinese picture lens just cosmos! Now there are a huge number of cheap offers on this camera. but I'm afraid they all worked on the filming of weddings and other celebrations. and most likely the shutter won't live there much. I don’t want to guess.

  • Eugene

Good day. I have a question! How can I realize working in the studio so that the captured photos are immediately displayed on the screen (in particular on a macbook). I used to have a Canon 1D mark III and I used DLSRRemote PRO There is something similar for the Canon 5D (I understand that the whole problem is due to the lack of LiveView). And further! Maybe someone has experience using the CF adapter for SD with the WiFi module. Thank you all so much earlier)

    • Roman

For 5D Classic, everything is sad. There were WFT-E1 / WFT-E1a adapters that supported it natively, but you need to look for them and they will be expensive.

About EyeFi came across that 4G cards work, but not on all models of CF-SD adapters.

There was also such an interesting thing, DSLR Dashboard is a special extension for routers that support OpenWRT / DD-WRT - custom linux firmware for routers. A router with USB, a camera is connected to it, software is installed on the phone, which provides focusing and downloading files, but there is support from 5D mk II.

IMHO, the cost of solutions will be such that it is easier to buy a supported camera (and this seems to be from 5D II from almost all third-party solutions). Actually, this was another reason why I refused to buy a classic.

      • Ivan

A little clarification on Eye-Fi cards:
In September 2011, SanDisk launched Eye-Fi cards for sales in the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East and Africa). Two models are currently available: 4 GB, JPEG and 8 GB, JPEG. Their distinguishing feature from the original Eye-Fi cards is the lower performance (Class 4) and the red plastic card body, and they were only officially available in Russia (unlike the original ones, which are still positioned only for the US market).

Since September 2016, online support for the client program working with these cards has been disabled, so users have lost the ability to fully use them. The previously configured cards continued to function, but now there is no possibility to change any settings (for example, choose another wifi network). At the moment, it makes no sense to buy old models of cards because of the lack of the ability to use a wifi module.

Memory cards with built-in Wi-Fi modules, but using a different technology, are also produced by Toshiba and Transcend.

        • Eugene

          Useful information! Thank)

    • Roman

You can also try a long cord and some old version of EOS utility software such as the 2nd. But it definitely will not be supported by poppy seeds.

      • Eugene

Thank you very much for your answer. There is a long cord (5m.) I will try)

Arkady, hello. Tell me how the photos in the review were converted and if there is any processing.

    • B. R. P.

exif tells us that at least photoshopped.

I don't remember anymore, in the review of 50 1.4 there is a link to the same in RAW format
