Focal length: 58mm

In the review, I visited two of these lenses, with serial numbers 5753025 and 5785412. The first copy was converted to a Nikon F mount, so it turned into a Nikon NON AI lens without automatic iris control.

When used on a full-frame camera Nikon D700 converted lens Minolta MC Rokkor-PF 1: 1.4 f = 58mm catches зеркало when focusing on infinity. Most likely, in the redone version, he will hook a mirror on all full-size cameras Nikon and Canon.

Minolta MC Rokkor-PF 1: 1.4 f = 58mm

The lens is perfectly assembled - all made of metal and glass. The front lens gives off a pleasant blue-violet coating. Visually, the lens looks very nice and nice.

Minolta MC Rokkor-PF 1: 1.4 f = 58mm with covers.

Focus ring rotates on 180 degrees, while the front lens does not rotate, but the trunk of the lens lengthens by about one centimeter. The focusing ring is metal, the MDF of the lens is 60 centimeters, and the depth of field is indicated for F / 4, 8, 11, 16. The aperture ring has only a fixed set of values and rotates with characteristic clicks.

For native cameras with a Minolta MD (MC) mount, an automatic blinking diaphragm is provided.

Minolta MC Rokkor-PF 1: 1.4 f = 58mm

The lens uses an aperture of just 6 blades and this is one of the few obvious flaws. On covered diaphragms, nuts in the blur zone can be seen.

Personal experience

Minolta MC Rokkor-PF 1: 1.4 f = 58mm - nice 'about fifty dollars'. It is comfortable to work with it and the quality of the images, as for such an old lens, is at a good level.

How to use SR/MC/MD mount lenses

To use a MINOLTA SR, MC, MD mount lens on modern mirrorless cameras, you should use the appropriate adapter:

The adapters are compatible with SR, MC and MD mount lenses and these mounts are backwards compatible. But the use of lenses with a MINOLTA SR, MC, MD mount on SLR cameras is difficult due to the long working distance. In such cases, a corrective lens adapter must be used, which will degrade the image quality.

The Minolta MC Rokkor-PF 1: 1.4 f = 58mm is a good lens with characteristic bokeh. It tolerates side and back light well, gives good image contrast.

  • Alexey

Thank you for another interesting review, Arkady! the photos are amazing, very gentle .. beauty ..

  • Andrei

Boke is really gorgeous! But the complexity of the alteration is not encouraging; (

    • Sergiy

Nothing folding. For a year old I have broken the smut of veneration of information.

      • Fedir

Sergiy, I’m gonna blow it out to you, you can tell me about the information on the installation of * Active Menu on the Nikon 5100, otherwise you can share it with us.

  • Jesus

Probably the worst bokeh I've ever seen and I've seen a lot.

  • Sergiy

I want to give it to myself. I was even honored with the video from the object - "cinema quality", the sharpness on the bright and bright background.

  • Alexey

    terrible bokeh

  • Misha

I had it, ordered with ebay, also remade it but only for Canon. My specimen was noticeably washed on 1.4, perhaps not the last role and played a fungus on the back lens. I sold it, about which I do not regret :-)

  • Az

Bokeh is not from this universe, Arkady, he is limping wildly. Why didn’t you write this?

    • Arkady Shapoval

      This is already evident.

  • Alexander

About the bokeh, for someone like, for me it is very artistic, and a very interesting effect, like brush strokes, is very beautiful

    • Gregor_S

      like everything is spinning

  • Anatoly

I don’t know for what reason, but your blog, Arkady, is losing his spark. I really want more articles specifically on current topics: sunlight and how to deal with it, for more tips, for more articles about photo work. And about technology all the more manual it is possible and for less. But this is my personal opinion.

    • Arkady Shapoval

So it’s time to close Radozhivka, I don’t have time to take reviews, it’s much more interesting to do the shooting process itself.

      • Anatoly

Why close the already finished material is more than enough for a novice photographer, for which thank you

      • Oleg Muravitsky

Take me as a co-author, I will help with the reviews :)

        • Arkady Shapoval

          Sure, not a problem)

    • Gregor

"For more tips, for more articles on photography work."

Anatoly, I apologize, but you would first learn to write correctly.

  • vas_nik

Arkady, I’ve become the owner of such a lens, though the shank has not been redone. Carefully examining the lens, I found that the aperture blades are not 6, but 8. Are the lenses available with 6 and 8 blades? If so, why, for what purpose?

    • Sergei

Tell the exact name of the lens

  • Alex

The mirror did not cling to full frame? Was focusing on infinity?
It touches me on a nickle, so I had to remove infinity :(

  • Alex LV

I also have the way petals 8 and not 6

  • Alex LV

I apologize for my kind of one-on-one, there is only a jump, and the name has the word AUTO

  • Roman

The bokeh is just super, like with an oil painting!

  • Damir

I have this lens, competently transplanted to Sony. This is a favorite lens, although there are native glasses that are considered the best ... The picture is artistic, soft warm tones, very competent soft bokeh

    • Nicholas

And where do you see soft boke ???

    • Sergei

      Hi, I have a Minolta MC Rokkor-PF 1: 1.4 f = 58mm and a Minolta MC Rokkor-PF 1: 2,8 f = 135mm., Tell me how to correctly remake on Sony.

  • Jury

Tell me, what will be the approximate distance for focusing when using Minolta MD 50mm, 135mm lenses on the Ninon D90 through a lensless adapter?

  • Alexander

An excellent portraitist !? - and not a single portrait in the review!

    • Vitaly U.

You are a photographer (IMHO ARTIST)! Turn up your imagination and imagine a face instead of a twig ... is it not a portrait? From the focal and aperture ratio it is clear that this is a portrait lens (ON THE CROP !!!). Arcadia, separate, THANKS for your efforts.

    • Damir

I do not know how to add a photo here ... I can send it to you by mail, if necessary.

  • asp

The lens bokeh is terrible. I don’t understand people who like paranoid back blur.

    • Arkady Shapoval

      Tastes differ.

    • Nicholas

I don’t understand people who like to stick labels.
Bokeh is great, they need to be able to use.

  • Maksim

Wonderful wonderful bokeh! Gives photos a touch of 70-80s. A wonderful tool in creative research. Arkady only delicately uses the word "interesting" to describe it.

  • Pawel

The lens is excellent !!! If you don’t like it, take plastic optics and take pictures. And regarding such reviews, many thanks to the author for taking the time for such very useful articles. I myself have several personal sites, and I know how difficult it is to find the time to write at least one article. MANY THANKS TO THE AUTHOR FOR LABOR !!! And the bokeh of the lens is excellent !!!

  • Tankx2

Actually, there is nothing complicated in remaking this lens. Here's an article on remaking the Minolta MC Rokkor-PF 58 / 1.4 on Nikon ( http://ussrlens.com/adaptation/mc-minolta-rokkor-pf-58-1-4-adaptation-to-nikon-pentax-canon-sony )

  • Pentyuh

    Boke hellish !!!

  • travel

Well, praising something is usually much easier than scolding constructively. With all the advantages of the lens, examining the pictures, we see that it chromatite, strongly soft on the open and boke ... uh ... well, let's say, very much for an amateur ...

    • Vitaliy U

... his "software" on a woman's portrait is CINUS!

      • travel

The software on a woman's portrait can be added during processing. But on the contrary - no way ...

        • Vitaliy U

... that, it is not that. The effect of a monocle can also be done, but only an EFFECT ...

          • travel

Well, just as it seems to me, there are a lot of such “beautiful” soft and chromate on open glasses. but to make a decent hole and all the other "artistic glitches" were in moderation - you still need to look.

            • Vitaliy U

In-in: "full" ... And I would say that there are practically no glasses with aperture ratio 1.4 and higher (with the exception of units for 1000-1300 $)! And no one says that this Rokkor is a masterpiece of optical construction. But it has much more pluses than minuses, it's a fact.

  • Sergyg

Thanks for the review and samples! I’m waiting for the lens myself, I suddenly found out that there will be problems on FF (Sony) at infinity (?)

About bokeh: in my opinion, such bokeh is really DIKOVATO (near open) - but only for silhouettes of grass / leaves, because "ghosts" really settle there))

I myself plan to use this INTERESTING bokeh in shots where there are few (few) bokeh sources, when another lens could not light anything at all, turning it into a bokeh disk. Roughly speaking, on a dark scene, where there will be several candles to generate bokeh, with a low brightness (ideally, of course, a whole gamut of brightness drops) - then, IMHO, the strongly transparent (low density) but SECURE bokeh of this lens will look especially gorgeous.

  • Vitaliy U

I have been using this lens for about a year on Nikon D 7000 and Fuja 5 Pro. I can unequivocally state: the lens is WONDERFUL! But ... with character. It is difficult to get into the depth of field on an open (f 1,4), out of focus area. I got used to it, now the marriage is 2,5 percent, but at first it was 10/50 (there was not enough evil)))) When open, on very contrasting scenes, HA, of course, are present. With high-aperture optics, this is practically the norm (sadly this is) ... Knowing this drawback, you can avoid such scenes (with hard light), or cover the aperture by 50-1 stops. The lens is very good. Like a set of brushes for an artist (softness-hardness). On the crop it turns out a classic portrait lens. Conducted statistical research (:)))), I sell almost everything that they shoot. People like (important!) With a certain skill , will delight any thinking photographer.
