Canon 7D Review

For the opportunity review of the legendary Canon EOS 7D body camera Many thanks to Georgy Abramashvili.

Canon EOS 7D review

Canon EOS 7D review

The Canon 7D is a very unusual semi-professional camera, although I personally consider the Canon 7D to be a true professional crop camera. The Canon 7D is the only camera in its subclass of Canon's DLC, the newer EOS 6D is already full-frame, and the EOS 50D and eos 60D lower level.

The Canon 7D uses an 18MP CMOS sensor. Now with a large number of megapixels you will not surprise anyone, especially after the release Nikon D800... For most amateur tasks, 18MP is quite a lot, but professionals can squeeze all their potential out of 18MP. The camera can form images 5184 by 3456 pixels (17.9MP). Cameras have the same matrix. Canon 600D, 650D, 550D и 60D. True, it is worth noting that in Canon 650D a slightly modified version of the matrix is used, which made it possible to double the maximum ISO value. You can take a look at my interesting article, which conducts an experiment on 'megapixel' - Battle of Megapixels.

Canon 7D attracts itself very high speed burst shooting. Shooting speed reaches 8 fps - This is an excellent indicator for a crop camera. No other crop camera with APS-C sensor from Canon can shoot at such high speed, only Canon APS-H and APS cameras can do it. Interestingly, Nikon has as many as 6 APS-C cameras that can reach this speed, but Nikon has a lot of limitations and nuances to achieve this burst speed.

Canon EOS 7D sample photo

However, in order to process such a large amount of data when shooting at 8 fps, the Canon 7D uses two DIGIC 4 processors. The weakness of the Canon 7D is a small frame bufferhowever, the new firmware slightly increases the number of frames during continuous shooting. Canon 7D outperforms even some of its full-frame brothers in performance - see the section for more details. the performance of all Canon.

Canon 7D is very well made, the camera body is made of magnesium alloy. The camera body has weather protection. In the hand, the Canon 7D sits very comfortably, it feels like a serious level device.

An additional monochrome display is simply an indispensable item for quickly adjusting basic camera parameters. The additional display has a backlight function. I really appreciate advanced cameras with an additional display, top-level cameras even have 2 such displays. The camera has a variety of controls that you can quickly get used to.

Canon 7D has a 3-inch display with 920 thousand dots. Now you won't surprise anyone with such a display, it is very convenient to view the footage, dig into the menu settings and shoot video.

Canon 7D can use ISO 100 to 6400 units and expand the value to 12.800. I can’t say that the camera has a low noise level at high ISOs, since now there are cameras that make noise an order of magnitude lower, especially considering the full-frame line of cameras. Minimum excerpt is 1 \ 8000, which is an excellent indicator.

The optical viewfinder deserves special attention - it has 100% frame coverage, which means that no extra details on the sides of the frame will get into the picture. For example, even on my full frame Nikon D700 the viewfinder does not cover 100% and you have to remember that after pressing the shutter button, extra details will appear at the edges of the picture.

Canon 7D uses 14-bit color depth, the camera supports 14-bit RAW (CR2). A deep color depth is very important in image processing. By the way, I updated the review Nikon D1X, with new software it can use 16-bit color depth.

Of course, the Canon 7D's very strong point is video. The camera can shoot Full HD 1920 × 1080 29.97 fps in MOV format, H.264 codec. Also, you can shoot 1280 × 720 and 640 × 480 at 60 or 50 frames per second. When shooting video, all basic parameters are available, the camera has a special button for starting / stopping video recording

Focusing is based on a 19-point sensor, with all 19 points being cruciform. The focus menu has several interesting settings, during the review I still did not understand the full possibility of the focus system working methods. The Canon 7D does not have an autofocus backlight.

Measurement exposure built on the basis of a 63-segment sensor, the sensor takes into account the focus, color and brightness of objects in the field of view of the camera. Many Canon EOS cameras use 63-segment metering exposure. You need to get used to the operation of an exnometer of any camera, just like the work of an automatic white balance.

Canon 7D camera has huge amount of useful features:

  • Matrix dust cleaning system
  • Great battery with over 1000 shots. The number of frames shot is highly dependent on many parameters.
  • Automatic bracketing exposure и white balance
  • Creative auto mode and image management system
  • Automatic ISO first versions available from 100 to 3200 units
  • The camera uses fast memory cards CF. True, the camera has only one slot for memory cards
  • INFO key, with which you can set the basic camera settings, a very convenient thing
  • Canon 7D can automatically correct vignetting with 'Peripheral Illumination Correction'
  • Auto brightness correction, allows you to expand the dynamic range of the image
  • Fine-tuning the focus, the camera remembers 20 lenses
  • An optional battery pack can be attached to the camera
  • and many, many others

The camera using the built-in flash may control external flashes remotely. Only 4 Canon cameras can do this: Canon EOS 600D, Canon EOS 650D, Canon EOS 60DCanon EOS 7D. By the way, with Nikon, as many as 12 models have such a function, however, Canon EOS 7D can control 3 groups of flashes, and Nikon's built-in flash can only control 2 groups. In this case, the Canon EOS 7D can use high speed sync with external flashes in this mode excerpt with flash not limited to threshold XSync in 1 \ 250 seconds and can even be set to 1 \ 8000. High-speed sync is a must have for flash photography during the day.

There is a modification of Canon EOS 7D, which is called Canon EOS 7DSV, which is aimed at the use by professional photographers in the studio, but I do not see any serious differences, except for the barcode scanner and a slightly different menu. Also, Canon EOS 7D of old releases can be updated using firmware version 2.03, the new firmware adds a couple of useful little things.

Personal experience

Personally, it seemed to me that the camera control system was not very convenient, most likely this is due to the fact that I was simply used to the Nikon system, which I use most often. In general, the Canon EOS 7D is just a fairy tale, especially for advanced amateurs who are trying to squeeze the maximum out of cameras. A simpler alternative is Canon 60D.

Prices for modern Canon cameras in popular stores can look at this link.

In comments Can I ask you a question on the topic and you will answer, and you can also express your opinion or describe your experience. Many little things for a photo can be found on AliExpress.

Conclusions:

Canon EOS 7D is an excellent camera with tremendous burst shooting speed, unmatched in terms of speed among other crop cameras from Canon. The quality of video and photos is at a high level, the Canon EOS 7D has an excellent focusing system and an excellent protected body. You can write about advantages for a very long time, in a word - I recommend.

as a user I’ll add 5 kopecks to the test. Good test, everything on the shelves. but the trouble is that it repeats the specification in the instruction.
(It so happened that I read another material, saw familiar letters, decided to check)

So that's it. The seven are doing well. Fast, grasping, for 3-4 days of feeling, all the keys are already felt without peeping (and if before that there was, for example, 20-30-40-50D - it's generally gorgeous to get used to!)
But! It was rightly said that the camera is professional (by the way, the manufacturer calls the second penny an amateur camera!). And since it is professional, it requires two things - high-resolution optics and photo processing. The root of all evil is in the 18 megapixel matrix. Small pixel ... you need highly detailed photos - pay. But even with some elks, grain comes out on low isos! ISO 100-320 in good weather and grain! Veterans (20d, 500d) did not allow themselves that. For example, with a native 17-40 / 4 with ISO 320, I got a small but nasty grain in a flawless blue sky. And therefore to process.

Grain is not the only thing that you can find fault with in the seven (you can easily put up with it, in most cases, even on ISO 800-1250 and a short exposure, the picture is amazing, and what appears is easily removable).

A much more serious problem is carcass alignment. In fact, a lot of people have encountered it, it is simply not particularly discussed. Due to the presence of focus inside the microadjustment, the manufacturer does not bother too much. Personally, when buying, I went through three pieces to choose the most accurate one. A friend had 1100d, I had 500d, the second number is now 20d. All autofocus optics on the above work strictly “on target”. With a seven - a miss. And it turned out to be the fault of the carcasses ... 18-55, and 75-300, and 50 / 1,8, (and even more so 50 / 1,4) and 100 / 2,8 - we had to adjust for each glass (it's good that there is memory and 20 lenses can be saved)

and the third moment that spoils the barrel of honey is accessories. Or rather a battery grip. The camera is declared dust-proof and moisture-proof. And even like 15 minutes of rain to her side. In the complete set “as is” it may be so. But! we install the battery grip and even with the naked eye we see huge millimeter slots through which direct access to the space of the battery compartment and electronic filling. Thought maybe the PIXCO bat block was to blame? An, no. It turned out to be an exact copy of a real native at a price 3 times less. I screwed my own in the store - the same thing.

With all that is present? would refuse such a camera? no. firstly, kenon has no replacement for it now. professional equipment with cropped matrix only for 7D. 5D full frame, but it is the standard of slowness. 6d - livelier (according to technical data), but there is no functionality either, and there are no half keys.
secondly, in her environment - in reporting, in field work - she has no equal.

    • Arkady Shapoval

Yes, there is no replacement yet. Nikon has the same thing with the d7 - there is no replacement for the crop. They are trying to transfer us to a full frame.

      • Alexey

The funny thing is, because a full frame is unreasonably expensive. Manufacturers cite the complexity of manufacturing full-frame matrices, but this is not so. It is much more difficult to cram 18 small pixels into a crop than to place 22 large pixels into a full frame. Alas, marketing and all.

        • Eugene White

rather, it’s expensive to deal with the consequences of stuffing, and even that is probably not expensive, but troublesome. one cure another cripple.

          • Arkady Shapoval

            That's for sure :)

        • Ruben Karapetyan

For a full format, it is difficult to obtain a crystal with uniform characteristics. The presence of one or two defects (for example, due to impurities in silicon) makes the entire matrix unusable. Therefore, the cost of a crystal is determined not by the amount of MPix, but by its area.
Modern technologies make it possible to place 1 MPix on a matrix 10/15 of a full frame and equip it with a digital dust camera with a cost of $ 200. Digital crystals are less critical to defects in the semiconductor, some zones there can be duplicated or bypassed. Therefore, for computers, the cost of a chip with the same number of transistors is significantly lower.

      • Dmitriy

But what about 70d? Doesn’t it serve as its replacement?

        • Arkady Shapoval

No, 70d is not a replacement.

          • Tatyana

Why 70d “not a replacement” can you explain please? I just can't decide what to take 7d or 70d ...

    • Alexey

As for the grain for 100-200 ISO, it can get out on any camera, even on ff. it does not matter nikon-kenon. I shot at 7 - you need to give more light, in my opinion XNUMXd darkens a little when metering the exposure, a small exposure correction completely corrects the grain.
At 7d, I like that it copes with overexposures very well, the old cameras could not afford this. (300d) also shot Nikon D7000, D90, Canon 5dm2. (by the way, even noise can come out on it, even if ff !!!!, so first of all, the exposition !!!)

  • Alexey

Great camera. Despite her age (3 years already), she is still the best Canon among all cropped cameras (1.6).
I dodged for a long time before choosing a new thing (after almost 4 years of using the Canon EOS 40D). The choice was essentially between 60d, 7d and 5d2. 60d after 40d did not suit either the case or the convenience, it’s somehow not like that. 5d2 liked only the full matrix. Otherwise, he lost a lot to the seven. Autofocus is worse, the serial shooting speed is less, and for me, these factors are almost the most important in the camera.
In general, I chose 7d. And my happiness knew no bounds. Yes, and still see the replacement of the seven only in 5d3. For 5d3, Canon's only balanced full-frame camera. Recently I began to think about the second camera, but now there is a need for a full frame, because for leisurely photo shoots I began to use manual optics for the sake of beautiful bokeh, and here, alas, the lenses will be drawn much more beautifully in the full frame. But I decided to take the full frame already 5d3, because after 7d the second nickle did not like the controls.

  • Alex

interesting review, we are waiting for further information on Canon

  • cdriper

    took such a drive.
the carcass has great impressions, but the 24-70L standing on it disappointed wildly. unsharp, with blurry focus.

    • Eugene White

what soap is - again to the issue of adjustment. You can contact the service, but it's better to try it programmatically.

  • Alexey

And by the way, the matrix in 7d is slightly different than the other 18 megapixel crop. In 7d, the matrix has 2-channel readout, in contrast to the single-channel in other cameras. Actually, for this, there are 2 processors. This increased the speed of reading information and reduced noise. Even the newest 650d loses to it by noise, although the difference in output is almost 3 years.

    • Arkady Shapoval

By the way, a great observation that the 650d makes a lot more noise for the old 7d :)

    • Vadim Shibaev

      That's right!

  • Mahal Makhalych

    That's interesting.
I’m thinking about acquiring a new camera. As such, there will be no upgrade, I use the old Fuji. Plus several post-Soviet film cameras.
Therefore, free to choose a system.
The main candidates are the given 7d and Nikon 7000d.
Video is an important part of future use. I know that Sony has the same advantage here, but we immediately exclude it.
The only thing that confuses the future cameras of the beginning of 2013 from both Nikon and Kenon.
There is hope for an even better video.
What do you think about this?

    • Arkady Shapoval

7d is already quite old, and in the 7th thousandth amateur case. I think, maybe all the same they will release a new flagship crop, otherwise you will have to look at full-frame.

      • Eugene White

hope for 7d mark 2? I don’t think so. In kenon, they put a bet on a full frame and mirrorless.
And where else to improve the seven? MP to grow? third processor? 10-12 fps

Although something I would be glad to have in this carcass
        - GPS tag for photo
        - good, “finished” picture, at least in auto mode
        - interchangeable focusing screen (wedges are insanely lacking for hand glasses!)
        Something like that))
        - full support for STM lenses. What? I tried pancake 40 / 2,8 in the store and do you know for a crop the compact fix is very pleasant.

        • Alexey

If you are more interested in video, then it is better to look towards 60d and 650d. They will be better in this regard. And if there is also a GPS, then take 6d. There is a full frame and other goodies. =)

And this is what the owner of 7d says to you. )))

          • Eugene White

for 80-90 thousand 6d looks wretched. is the second nickel better then? crop is more suitable for me by the way, thanks to a smaller angle of view

        • Alexey

Watching than wretched. It will obviously be better to shoot than 5d2. I don’t like 6d a lot of things, I’m sure that it will be better than a spider in the picture, although I would never take 6d myself, I would personally dislike 60d and 6d. =)

  • Denis

Thank Arkady for the reviews and Canon systems! A year ago, I was faced with the choice of Canon 7D, Nikon D300s or Nikon D7000 (the price difference was not significant). He stopped at the Nikon D7000. I thought about D300s as outdated. Today, on the D7000 (on a relatively new model), the price has fallen sharply, and the D300s and 7D are still in price (!), Even in the secondary market they are not cheap. There are a lot of good reviews (and read) for the D300s, probably it is a competitor to many cameras. And the Canon 7D is very impressive with the speed of burst shooting, and of course the video.

    • Arkady Shapoval

3 weaving and 7rka - professional cameras, in the west even at d200 the price is kept.

  • Denis

Interestingly, with the D7000, you can think of acquiring a 3-x hundredth as the second (or as the main camera paired with the D7000) camera so as not to change the lenses on the set, etc.?

    • Arkady Shapoval

Yes, it will be a good set.

  • Eugene

The year I changed from 400d to 7d, emotions are completely positive, the camera is indeed much more functional. The degree of “professionalism” should be left at the mercy of marketers, in one of the reviews the “seven” was called the second camera of a photographer of any specialization, and this is perhaps the most apt definition: if the “wishlist” is not entirely related to making money - the price and functions, “necessary in everyday life ”meet the needs of 101%.
Comparing with the previous camera - the seven has a pentaprism, not a penta mirror, this makes the viewfinder noticeably lighter and has greater coverage, high ISOs, in addition to their actual presence, generate noises that do not make you sick at all: not film grain, but not a nightmare, like at ISO400-800 at 400d.
Mass-dimensional “seven” is heavier and larger, but it does not cause discomfort and fatigue.
The battery is noticeably more capacious than that of the 400, in addition, “it is distinguished by intelligence and ingenuity” - tells the camera its serial number and monitors the effective capacity, the camera will warn about the dying battery until the moment of complete dying.
Working with the butblock is also for the top five: if the butblock for the 400 simply connected two batteries in parallel, and so increased the capacity, the 7's are all grown-up. The power supply is completely separate, in the menu of the device there are both batteries separately, and moreover - the algorithm of use is such that when the charge is consumed, from some moment the camera starts to use one of the batteries until exhaustion, after which this battery can be charged. ”On the remainder.
A fast card is desirable, but I would not say that it is required: the built-in buffer is sufficient for shooting in small series on a x133 card, HD video is also recorded. with Lexar Pro x400 - there is no delay with recording at all, everything instantly gets to the card.
Fly in the ointment - some unpleasant limitations when working with non-branded flashes, here's more details: http://kkk-ua.blogspot.com/2012/12/canon.html
In general, if anyone has any questions, I will answer, ask.

    • Anatoly

Nicely written, all thoughts revolve around the "masterpiece" button
Only it’s not the camera that is shooting, but the photographer.

      • Eugene

That is why it makes sense to discuss only "buttons". When the tool is more convenient - less need to be distracted by technical nuances. And the implementation of more technically complex ideas becomes possible. So, undoubtedly, the photographer is shooting. But the camera :)

        • Dmitriy

I have been using 5DM3 for almost a year and 6D for a couple of weeks - just fascinated by the latest model, as it was done for me!

          • Arkady

If you try ..1Ds mark2 you will be YOUR ... fascinated ...

      • anonym

        So shoot on ZENITH

    • Jury

      Eugene please tell me which is better today;
Kenon 7d or Nikon D7100? Going to take the first SLR

    • Vladislav

Good day. Eugene’s comment was many years ago. I wonder if he now uses canon7d? If so, let them answer which lenses turned out to be the most successful paired with 7d, including both sigma and tamron. I'm especially interested in travellists. This question is also for everyone who has and had canon 7d cameras. I read all the comments, many people write about God, and almost no one knows about the experience with their lenses.

  • Ivan

Good review, as always a pleasure to read.
Arkady, please tell me if you had the choice of D7000 and 7D, what would you choose if you do not take into account your existing optics and the fact that the D7000 is much cheaper than the 7D carcass (we also do not take into account the more options for shooting video from 7D)?
I shot it on my D5100 for about half a year (the counter for 65000 had already passed) and realized that I was missing a lot of things in it, I needed to change ...
I immediately looked at the Pentax K-5, it’s not a bad thing, but the autofocus loses much to both the D7000 and D7, and my family is expensive, it attracts good work with m42 glasses (when I’m taking pictures to Jupiter 37A, there’s a couple Zeiss old).

    • Arkady Shapoval

If I had nothing, I would take 7d because of the short length of the m42 optics and excellent housing. Although, the choice is difficult.

      • Ivan

Well, if you look towards the working segment under m42 and the body, then clearly K-5 is a leader by a large margin + its matrix is the least noisy. Somewhere I saw a video of how a K-5 in a river under water was shot without any protection and nothing .. :)
7D is much more expensive (and its DD is worse ...
The choice is not easy, indeed, I have been thinking about what to take for 2 weeks))))

        • Alexey

And you feel all these cameras and what will fall into your hand - then take it. The most important thing is that the camera is comfortable. After all, let you have the most top-end DSLR from any of the manufacturers, but it will not be convenient - you will not get the pleasure of shooting. And the main thing is that the shooting brings joy, and some small pros and cons are already nonsense. There is no perfect camera alas. =)

          • Ivan

            I agree with you :)
According to this financial principle, it was mainly determined with the choice of the D5100 :)
Yes, and you will not keep up with progress, half a year will not pass as new good matrices appear, etc. :)
As an amateur, I don’t have much sense in changing them like socks, but professional photographers cannot be envied in this matter, the new D600 is already regarded as an amateur ff (by the way, I like the picture from it more than from the 3rd nickle + the price is not bad) :(

        • Arkady Shapoval

The question was clear - d7000 or 7d, they did not ask about Pentax.

  • Mahal Makhalych

    Hey.
Thanks for the answers. I'm talking about the difficult choice of a system — either d7000 or 7d there.
And yet I’ll probably wait 2-3 months. I hope for new products from the grandees. Reporting and sprinkled, like the hero of the review.
A full frame, to my unpretentious IMHO (I can’t stand this acronym), in ordinary life turns into terabytes of disk space and a very considerable expenditure on optics.
And a decent loss of speed, as such.
The advantages of FF are clear, only with the current crop the difference is not so great. Kramola.
    Forward.

    • Alexey

And now let's think about how much the file with 18mp 7d and 22mp 5d2 or 5d3 will weigh a lot more? =)

And the quality of optics 7d is more moody. For the pixel density of 7d is almost 2 times higher than that of five-copecks. Well, of course, she needs more the center of the lens than its edges.

I am also a supporter of crop (while the price of FF is inflated by marketers), but for the sake of all there Helios I want a full frame, because the picture of these lenses is fully disclosed only in full frame, alas and ah. =)

But as the main camera - I will have 7d for a long time. Then I will add 5d3, they are just great in a pair. =)

  • Eugene

until he himself came across, for there is no third nickle, but information skips that they do not work with old dandelions. Have marketers decided to cover up the possibility of using cheap glasses?

about the drawing of helios on FF - try this drawing on a film on a budget. Personally, he did not bring me to awe.

    • Alexey

Well, the drawing, so to speak, is not for everybody. I like. Someone does not like, everyone has their own tastes. =)

I shot them both on 5d2 and on film - the drawing pleases, very much even. =)

  • Cyprus

    Very colorful winter gallery.

    • Arkady

      Glad you liked it.

  • Sergei

Arkady, many tests are different on the network, but there is no certainty as such. For myself, I want to compare potential candidates d7000, 7D, K-5 in the following ways. I kept these cameras only in the store, and you tested fully. I would like to know your opinion. So far I have decided for myself like this:
    Ergonomics
    Nikon d7000 - Good
Canon 7D - Excellent (especially with Magic Lantern)
Pentax k-5 - Good (but fewer buttons than Nikon)

    Viewfinder
    Nikon d7000 - Good
Canon 7D - Good (true big AF points in viewfinder)
    Pentax k-5 - Good

    Auto focus
Nikon has more focus points, and all models seem to have no problems. (I didn’t hold the new pentax in my hands ... but it seems that the new SAFOX is at the level of competitors.)

    Work with manual optics
Nikon d7000 - with any old, motorized or non-motorized, but only with its own. You can stick on Lushnikov and get a focus trap, a jump rope (by the way, can it focus on the open one or on the one that you set from the ring?) And exposure metering.

Canon 7D - only EF mount (old ones do not fit), you can screw Nikon, Pentax, M42 optics through an adapter with a chip and get a trap, metering the exposure. But the camera will focus on a covered aperture.

Pentax K5 - any old native optics is suitable, both fully manual and non-motorized, and M42 is not expensive. There is a trap and metering for any lens.

Prices for new optics are, in my opinion, about the same. In addition there is Tamron, Sigma, Tokina.

    Video___________
Here 7D with the addition to the Magic Lantern firmware - puts everyone on the shoulder blades. You can shoot clips fully.
Nikon - there is no focus-picking, well, there is no everything that is in Magic Lantern.
Pentax is of little use for video. Writes only to MJPEG / 4GB files, no aperture or shutter speed control, no picking (although it is in the k30)
    DEF
Pentax + WR lenses - full ... plus a tempered glass screen for the K5-II.
    Pentax, Canon - only carcasses
Nikon - Not sure if there are rubber seals in there.

    • Arkady Shapoval

About old Nikon optics - here - https://radojuva.com.ua/2011/04/optika-na-nikon/.
Pentax does not have the development of a full-frame segment; I don’t see the point as a system. 7000 Nikon noise is less than 7D. The choice is always difficult.

  • Sergei

... I haven’t decided on the quality of the image.
If you believe the synthetic tests that the d7000 and K5 is a step better in noise (ISO 800 on kenon is almost equal to ISO 1600 among competitors), if you believe others, then the noise already with ISO 800 on 7D is such that you don’t want to shoot anymore. ??? Dodger DD is an order of magnitude worse. Although in other DDs it is not much worse (worse, but not critical).

Yes, Pentax also has a matrix shift stabilizer ... that is, taking into account the price of used lenses, the Pentax stub for working with old glasses is the best choice.

The 7D has the best body and control and video.

Nikon and Pentax have a better matrix.

I have been choosing for two weeks already ... tin ... I don’t want a camera below the class (I can shoot ... I have old M42 lenses ...) Probably you just need to stop at something. Only I can't decide on what!

    • Arkady Shapoval

Still, given the old optics under the m42, I would stop at Canon.

      • Sergei

Thanks, Arkady. Your opinion is important to me (especially since this is the opinion of Nikonist :))

    • Alexey

On 7D, working ISO 1600, with mRAW it is possible to work fine on 3200.

If the video is interesting, it is better to look towards 60D. There is a rotary display, and the matrix heats up less, the 7D goes off faster during video. Due to the noise, Semyon gets a little out of his little brother. Semyon is undoubtedly better in ergonomics, and yes. Semyon has dust and moisture, 60D does not ...

Nikon D7000, as far as I understand the competitor is 60D, 7D has a competitor D300s.

    • Konstantin

Sergey, have you already decided on the choice of a camera? I, too, like you, am in a similar situation ...

  • Igor

I have been using 600D for more than a year, two months ago I bought myself a 7D. First impressions - a great car, everything suits it! The euphoria passed, began to compare in more detail with the 600th and noticed that in absolutely identical conditions, installations, with the same glasses, the seven is much more noisy! On 600, up to 800 grain is not visible at all, the clearest picture !!! And on the seed - rushing !!!
    Who can explain why? ...

    • Michael

In younger models, noise suppressors are more aggressive, even in graves

  • Alevtina

Thank you very much for the article, very useful information !!

Please tell me the points of view of a professional!)
Which is more suitable for Nikon d7000 or Canon d7?

  • Olga

I re-read all the opinions, but I haven’t decided for myself what I want more for Canon 7d or Nikon D7000. Now they have a significant price difference ... But for some reason I like Canon more ... maybe just because of all the previous soap dishes of this company.

Because the art of photography for myself is just starting to discover (I'm learning so to speak), advise what to take ??? I just think for the future that if I buy optics for Nikon now, then if I decide to switch to Canon more than prof. level, you have to change all the lenses.

  • Paul

All the same .. for a beginner (not yet understanding anything) photographer, what is better to take 650D or 7D?
// provided that there is a possibility ..

    • Arkady Shapoval

7D will be more interesting for the photographer :)

  • anonym

Regarding the choice of the 7D camera or ... The choice should be made by you yourself based on: 1) Intuition, so to speak - take it slowly in your hands and take pictures in comparison right there in the store (at one time it helped me to make a choice between D7000 and 7D); 2) Cameras D7000, 7D and older (but not younger) on these systems have the ability to fine-tune focusing with different lenses (it is better for a photographer to have this opportunity); 3) 7D is a kind of professional camera like Nikon D300s - which means (!!!) that you will have more “degrees of freedom” in your work; 4) Burst speed is not always important, but it is important, especially when you get a taste of shooting dynamic scenes (7D is strong here, like Nikon D300s); 5) You should never think that “I am a beginner” and I do not need serious advanced cameras, you need to try to shoot with cameras where there are no green automatic settings - take the shutter speed, aperture and ISO settings into your own hands and after a while you will understand what you are doing, and then say thank you to yourself. PS Advanced and professional cameras have a fairly high cost in the secondary market! (This is in case you want something even more serious or even change the system).

  • Mark

I didn’t understand, Sony a77 is not even discussed or compared with the 7d and c nikon D7000s such as Sony they are not a competitor, well, well, Sony developed, introduced and released devices with new developments that are now in kenon 4 years after buying Konik-minolta I never dreamed of Nikon. I think Sony will drive them in full fart, now they will have to smash their heads what to provide as a counterbalance in terms of new developments

    • anonym

This is not a technoportal ... Trying to express your thoughts here, you need to act in the same spirit as Arkady - to write about the technique that you specifically use in practice! Few photographers shoot simultaneously with Canon, Nikon, Sony, Pentax, etc.

  • Nikolai (sn797)

Well, finally! Review of the seven! Thank you! Although I’ve already been with this camera for the third year, I still enjoyed reading it!
There was a morally difficult upgrade from the forties (40D), spoiled the last matrix with an unsuccessful cleaning and for a long time could not get used to the noisy 18 megapixel matrix of the seven ... But I got used to it and now I love the seven much more than the 40D! I just stopped paying attention to the noise, or rather, just , stopped looking for it :) And as a last resort, when I really want to have a "crystal" clear picture, I discovered Topaz DeNoise, which, unlike Neat Image and others, radically removes black dots appearing at high ISOs. By the way, at 40D they are not it was, there was just noise. But in general, the device is a dream, especially for an amateur, and it is true that at the moment Canon has no replacement for it. By the way again :) maybe someone will be interested to see the photos taken by the seven with different glasses , then I have them here
    http://fotki.yandex.ru/users/signumnobilis/albums/
Of course, there are a lot of them on the network, but I have everything in full size, except for one :)
    Thanks again for the review!

  • POlik

Arkady, tell me whether it is worth waiting for reviews of the 1D (s) series cameras, I would like to know your opinion about this line from Canon.

  • jamila

Hello! I have Kenon1100D how to take pictures with it so as not to approximate what you shoot to make the background blurry, for example, a full-length person, but when I shoot a full-height person everything merges with the background, I don’t know how to take pictures :(

    • Olga

Most of these questions are answered in the instructions for the camera. Do not be lazy, carefully read the instructions on the disk and you will understand a lot.
