Personal experience
The Nikon D3s is simply a chic camera, really made for professionals. The camera is very responsive to any reaction, with instant activation. The shutter does not work loudly. I do not recommend chasing the flagship Nikon D3, D4 line of cameras, as it requires considerable photography skills to unlock their potential. After an hour of working with Nikon D3s, I don’t want to part with it. Nikon D3s loses a little in terms of dynamic range Nikon D3x, D800, D800E, but these cameras have slightly different tasks. Whether it is worth changing Nikon D3, Nikon D700 to Nikon D3s, everyone must decide for himself. I believe that Nikon D3s - one of the best cameras from Nikon.

Personally, I can no longer afford to work only for equipment, it should already start to pay off ... With digital shooting it seems harder and harder, 14.5 bits in DD for D800 and 14.2 bits for D600, stacked in one RAW - this is some kind of cut. You have to dig into all this and get a beautiful picture for a long time, a really "dark room", as it used to be in film times. And at the same time, with everything, use lighting correctly so as not to ruin the picture and yourself at the computer.
What's better? Better is what you have learned to be more productive, work more efficiently and get the desired result. IMHO. Well, comrade. PHOTOGURU is right) the camera is just a tool, it will not replace self-education.
it so happened that I had the opportunity to shoot for many years with different cameras from different manufacturers including top ones. I think it's funny to talk about some kind of poor quality of modern devices, most likely the quality depends on the lenses. top-end cameras generally allow you to shoot everything in the world, or almost everything ... the worst impressions were from Laika cameras, new, very expensive ones. This is some kind of deception of buyers, who then console themselves with the fact that they have some kind of spirit of photography ... I feel sorry for them! but it should also be noted that all the lenses from Laik really excelled others in optical performance, especially in aberrations, then during processing there were practically no white lines around contrasting objects, including branches on a white background. You should pay special attention to aberration when buying lenses, as they cannot be corrected later. Even on the fifth canon of the third version, the picture is good when using high-quality lenses, and its resolution is just excellent ... D3S is a phenomenal camera, it’s very interesting to whom it might not bring great pleasure? I wish you all good photos!

I have been using this device for 3 months already. I have already shot 3 weddings with it, and one interior photography for a church, plus a lot of test shots of petal flowers. I can conclude: D3s is just a gorgeous camera for reporting and everything in a row, it is a kind of photo-combine, the only 12 megapixels impose restrictions on studio shooting, but Nikon has more interesting bodies for the studio. ISO 6400 is the cleanest, but I work at 12800 as well, because it does not fade color either, and noise can still be easily suppressed. The weight of the camera is very noticeable when shooting a 12-hour wedding day, especially in conjunction with the Nikkor 80-200mm 2.8D, my neck just hurts terribly all the next day. I noticed that with D3s you can pull out even knocked-out clouds from RAW, which blink if the backlight indicator is on, on D300s and D700 and D7100 I could not do this, there if clouds are knocked out, then you cannot pull them out in any way, in D3s it immediately caught my eye that you can pull RAW from overexposure. In general, I will say that RAW D3s stretches like rubber, and when pulling out of the shadows, the noise practically does not climb. Perhaps the only drawbacks that I want to announce this: weight (but you can get used to it) visibility (very much attracts the attention of others and it sometimes annoys, you can't get the camera anywhere from the bag) useless buttons on the tower (it would be better if there were WB, ISO , QUAL as everywhere else) the absence of “+, -” buttons to increase or decrease the picture (it is inconvenient to zoom the picture by turning the dial) Well, that's probably all the disadvantages that I could notice, but as you can see that these disadvantages are not critical, otherwise the camera is just wonderful ALL parameters. I deliberately didn’t write a comment on the first day of buying the camera, I worked with the camera for 3 months, and only now I’m writing my opinion, which is supported by some experience with the camera. In general, if you shoot weddings, reports, sports and other dynamics, or even shoot in the studio but do not print your work more than in A3 format, then this camera is for you (I had cameras D3100, D5100, D7100, D300s, D700, D800e , D3s and of them I like D3s the most, with this camera it is just easy and convenient to work and earn money, with this camera you will no longer think about buying new equipment, but simply shoot and earn money, focusing on processing and shooting technique) ... In such cases, when you press the center, the unnecessary area of the frame increases, sometimes it’s just bokeh, and you have to cross it for a long time to the right place to make out. Although in fact the focus is always accurate, and lately I haven’t bothered with this, and haven’t looked at the photo under 100% magnification. He began to trust the camera more often. Is the difference between the d700 and d3s significant?
In D3s - there is less noise at high ISO, after 4000 it is noticeable very much, the noise chokes well, the colors do not float; BB balance is somewhat more accurate; more accurate and faster autofocus, especially noticeable in the tracking mode, twists the screwdriver a little faster - the AF modules are the same for the hardware, apparently the matter is in the software refinement; the burst speed is higher, the buffer is larger; the battery seems limitless after 700; more settings in the menu.
For myself, I decided that with D3s I can safely wait for D5 without jumping to “fours”.

The difference in D700 and D3s is not very direct significant. D700 is a very successful camera, one can say the legend of all Nikons. The only difference is in the higher working ISOs of the latter, that is, D3s. I fully support the words of A.N. Onim, especially in the fact that on D3s you can safely stay until D5 or D5s or that there will be the following. D4 and D4s are not directly radically better than the old man D3s. If you take the camera really for work and not for fun, then I think the D3s will be a cost-effective workhorse that can work in any situation.

My humble impression from a short meeting with D3 - the camera gives freedom. Freedom not to think, but suddenly it will make noise, suddenly out of focus ... The probability of working accurately and getting the desired frame is very high. With each new camera, you can more and more get hung up on the frame, and not on “dancing” with the equipment (when it comes to difficult shooting conditions, such as action, sports, low lighting, etc.).
