Focusing

The lens has an average auto focus speed. On the Canon EF 75-300mm f / 4.0-5.6 III there is a focus mode switch; in manual focus mode, the focus ring rotates approximately 90 degrees.

Aperture

The lens can’t boast good. aperture. True, Canon EF 75-300mm f / 4.0-5.6 III can close aperture up to f / 45.

Weight Management

The lens is not heavy, the zoom and focus ring is pretty nice. The diameter of the front filter is not large, only 58mm, like a whale lens. I recommend using protective filter along with the lens.

Image quality

The lens showed not very good image quality. Canon EF 75-300mm f / 4.0-5.6 III suffers from aberrations. Holds back light normally. The image sharpness is not very good. Bokeh, a subjective factor, I didn't like it.

Personal experience

This is a rather dark telephoto, it cannot boast of anything interesting, except for its low price. It's too bad that when used on cropped cameras, the lens doesn't have an Image Stabilizer. At full frame, the Canon EF 75-300mm f / 4.0-5.6 III is more user-friendly due to its wider field of view than crop and better ISO values, which allow for faster shutter speeds and thus less shake. If you are going to buy this lens, then you need to know about handheld photography basics.

Conclusions:

Canon EF 75-300mm f / 4.0-5.6 III - very simple, not good aperture and image stabilizer tele lens. It can serve as an addition to a whale lens.

My madame has a canon fotik, she wants a macro lens to take food. Tell me which one to buy is better, so that it is cheap and cheerful). I do not understand or intend to study this issue at all. So I ask you not to answer supposedly google) thanks

    • Arkady Shapoval

You need to know which camera she has. There are 4 main types: a full-frame DSLR, a full-frame mirrorless, a cropped SLR and a cropped mirrorless. Under them, you can advise 4 different lenses. Find out the model and write here and they will tell you.

Hello Arkady. This is what I encountered when shooting with this lens: when I twist the zoom ring and then focus in the automatic mode, everything is fine, but when I turn off the camera, I twist the zoom ring to push the trunk all the way in, it does not move and it needs to be pushed in with focusing ring. In general, this is not much and annoying, but just wondering, is this a malfunction? Thank you very much in advance.

... Helios 44-2 is normal for any mirror with M42-EOS adapter

      • derpanzer92

helios - glass is not for everyone. it’s difficult for some to work with manual focus, so it’s better to just take half a canon, preferably stm

  • Alex

And for shooting the moon will go

    • Michael

      Not enough focus

    • derpanzer92

the moon must be shot at least fr 500 mm or more. probably this one is also possible, but the question is how adequately to sprinkle it all

  • Dmitriy

Friends, tell me which lens to take both for shooting from 10 meters and for shooting from 100, for example?

    • B. R. P.

      Anyone will do.

  • Valentine

Hello! there is an option to buy this almost new lens together with the canon 1100d camera (while it is still with the kit 18-55) for all 7000r. Do you think it's worth thinking?))

    • B. R. P.

If everything is working, why not.

  • Novel

Hello. Recently I bought this lens for generally ridiculous money (1000 rubles), I shot it a little, well, for 1000 rubles it shoots well, the motor buzzes, but not critical, it focuses quite acceptable, but that's what I ran into when I twist the zoom ring and then point it at sharpness in the machine, everything is fine, but when I turn off the camera, I twist the focusing ring to push the trunk all the way in, it does not move and it must be pushed in with the focusing ring. In general, this is not very annoying and annoying, but just wondering, is this a malfunction? Thank you very much in advance.

I don’t know how it works with this particular lens, but at the zooms that I have, the trunk “drives” into the lens body by zooming (implied by the design).

      > twist the focusing ring
      > using the focusing ring
Duck is still talking about the zoom ring. Or focusing?
By the way, if you turn off the camera and try to manually focus, will it work? Or is the focusing ring not physically associated with the focusing mechanism?

      • Victor

2TWM is normal for this lens, it's just that its trunk travels back and forth when focusing, as well as when zooming, and apparently, a person would like the trunk to be retracted as much as possible when carrying. Of course, here either focus every time at a certain point before turning off the camera, or manually push the trunk to the end with the focusing ring.

    • Alexander

This is normal for this lens. I always do this, slide the switch to mf, and tighten the focusing ring so that the trunk goes inside to the end.
I have 75-300 III USM true, but it does not matter, as I understood.

  • Ramon

I bought one in May 2021 for 1000 hryvnia ($ 36). I do not quite agree with the author about the "bad picture", etc., because for the money it is just a super-duper lens. Before that I used Exakta 70-210 (copy of Sigma 70-210), and it is in comparison with 75-300 III (on the same stretches) as the earth and the sky.

    • Vladimir

Yes, he is boring, and dark.

      • Ramon

Boring is it like? Well, yes, a bit dark, so what? Again, for my money (on the secondary, of course) - the lens is just a bomb. Better in terms of price / quality ratio cannot be found. I will say more, I recently bought a dinosaur, Sigma 170-500, I use both on 5D, and 75-300 III breaks Sigma in image quality only in this way (on the corresponding focal length 170-300 mm).

Lenses that will not be “boring” and at the same time light (or at least with a constant f / 4 aperture, etc.) will cost at least 8 times more on the same secondary market. So again, for the money, 75-300 is as good as possible.

        • Joe

Boring is a black lens barrel, regular lenses, no special effects.
For comparison, an example of a much funnier lens (Holga Turret Lens): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5vBomsc4Ug

        • Dima

I agree precisely if you need a long-range telephoto and there is not much money, then this is a super option. And he washes the background nicely.

  • R'RёS,R ° F "RёR№

On the secondary market, the choice is not great for the money. I bought it for 3 thousand rubles, ideally. Similar sigma and tamrons are flimsy, their trunks are loose, lather more. I advise you not to take a new one, I see no reason. And so - a gift for a penny.

  • Azake

Is there a big difference in speed and noise with the 75-300 III USM version? does it make sense to change from a version without USM?

  • Anna

    Good afternoon.
Please tell a beginner how to choose a telephoto on canon 7d:
    Sigma 70-300mm F4-5.6 DG MACRO
    or still
    Canon 70-300mm F4-5.6 III USM.
    Thank you

    • Arkady Shapoval

Take your own, and even better Sigma 70-300 OS with a stabilizer

  • Igor

I don’t agree with the review, a very good lens in terms of picture sharpness and focusing speed, versions with usm, the speed is no more, but excellent for its price and weight!

  • Dima

For my money, this is a telephoto fire under ff. Only yes, very slow. The sharpness in the frame was very surprising. To ask for a stub and aperture ratio for such money - seriously?)

    • Dima
