Optically, they are one and the same lens. Mir-26 is a lens upgrade Carl Zeiss Jena Flektogon 4 / 50. I didn’t use the optogon, but Mir-26V turned out to be a pretty good lens. This review presents exactly Mir-26V 3.5 / 45, released by the Arsenal plant in 1973.

Mir-26V 3.5 / 45 is a lens from medium format cameras, therefore, it has a rather large working distance, which allows its use on almost all modern central control centers and central control centers with interchangeable lenses. I used Mir-26V 3.5 / 45 with cameras Nikon D700, D40. An adapter is needed for use on Nikon cameras KP-88 / N (B mount / Nikon F mount). On the medium format Mir-26V 3.5/45 is a real wide-angle. On a full frame (narrow format) - this is something very similar to a fifty dollars in terms of viewing angle. On the Mir-26V 3.5 / 45 crop, it can even be a portrait lens. For Canon APS-C cameras k=1.6x EGF will be 72mm.

Focusing on the lens, like most old manual lenses, is very smooth. The focus ring rotates approximately 180 degrees. When focusing, the front lens does not rotate, but only the trunk travels half a centimeter forward. MDF is 50cm, I would like a little smaller MDF.

The aperture has automatic control, but it can also be set manually on cameras that do not support blinking aperture control. The diaphragm has only 6 blades.

Image quality

Mir-26V 3.5 / 45 showed good sharpness on any aperture. The lens has a good contrast, color reproduction with a classic yellowish-greenish Soviet hue. Auto white balance normally copes with yellowness, I'm not focusing on that. Aberrations are very small. Vignetting is almost not noticeable. The only slightly noticeable distortion. Also, Mir-26V 3.5 / 45 works very poorly with backlight, with such lighting the contrast decreases greatly. The bokeh of the lens is rather unusual, slightly twisted, I can not say that it is bad.

Personal experience

The front lens of Mir-26V 3.5 / 45 is large and convex, therefore, it requires a huge diameter filter. The lens is heavy, but it's nice to shoot it. Unfortunately, in a narrow format (on APS, APS-C cameras), the Mir-26V 3.5 / 45 is of no interest, since ordinary fifty dollars is lighter and faster than the Mir-26V 3.5 / 45. Mir-26V 3.5 / 45 can be used for photo experiments.

    At one time he actively used both “Mir” and “Flektogon”. The Zeiss lens is far ahead of the Arsenal lens in terms of contour sharpness, contrast, and detail. I don’t remember about boke, since it was in the mid-eighties, but I still remember the sharpness of the memory. Even for the negative 6 * 6, the detail in the photos from the Flektogon was unusually large, as if it had been printed by “contact”. What can not be said about "Mir": the drawing is soft, and the edges are smeared all the same ... For nothing, that the scheme is German.

      The schemes of Mir-26 and Flektogon are completely different and there are no “German schemes” in Mir, and the image quality in it largely depends on the specimen. I compared my Mir-26 with three Flektogons (2 zebras and 1 MC) - only MC turned out to be close in sharpness, so that one could call them equivalent. Zebras were worse.

And now I am faced with the question of either leaving my flektogon or looking for Mir-26. If there is “Mir”, it will probably be a new modification of ARSAT or ARAX. Much has been said about this old lens, but almost nothing about these. It is clear that their manufacturer advertises what they are better, but is this so, and what is better? Can anyone tell? There was my first serious camera "Kiev-19" with Arsat-N 50mm-swan song simply. They gave me a barter "Konika" and a 57mm / 1,4 staff. So this couple was losing to Kiev in everything, the color was sometimes better - and even then on the slides, and so the loss is complete! - I sold. (although at that time they actively smacked their fathers in magazines). According to my assumptions, this is precisely the merit of the new production (or maybe such a copy).

      The merit of production, for sure: one copy is candy, the other is a complete UG. I just came across such a world: consider it not open; works distinctly with 5,6. The difference between open and closed by one and a half feet is huge, and this is in the center (except through the adapter). What's going on in the 6x6 field is scary to think. Still, the Germans, even the GDR, do not allow such a spread. I regularly hear about successful Worlds that Flektogons are tearing apart, but have not seen a single one.

    If you remove the lens from the camera, the focusing ring travels smoothly. When attached to the camera, the focusing ring is slow and jerky, making focusing extremely difficult. (kiev-88, araks)

      If you really need an adapter, you can do it yourself: for the lenses of Salyut, Kiev88 cameras, there are macro rings, they are sometimes sold on the Internet or at photo flea markets. I needed an adapter for B-mount lenses - threaded (not to be confused with B-mount) for Nikon. I bought two extension rings from Salut (sold as a kit) and an adapter KP-A / N. And from a short ring marked “19” and KP-A / N I made the adapter I needed. It is better to disassemble the macro ring completely, so that it is easier to clean the chips afterwards, remove the jump rope extension from the macro ring (it spins up and is simply removed), cut off its bracket (one of the two, which is closer to the camera), flush with the inner diameter. Unscrew three fixing screws from KP-A / N. Carefully grind the KP-A / N adapter case from the outside so that it fits inside the macro ring. This must be done carefully so as not to sharpen too much and it does not begin to fall into the macro ring. I did it on a regular grinding wheel. Next, the most important thing is to sharpen evenly so that there is no skew when connecting the two parts. It is important to “fit” the KP-A / N inside the macro ring to the correct depth, ie. make the correct flange. The total length of my adapter was 40 mm, but it is better to choose it empirically, so that there is infinity, it is possible with a short flight. It is necessary to connect the two parts of the adapter with a slight interference. After cutting, grinding, it is necessary to wash two parts from all sawdust under water and dry. You can start putting on a camera with a lens and setting the flange distance (carefully so that the structure does not fall apart in your hands and the lens does not sink into oblivion :)). After setting the flange distance, it is necessary to check the same length of the adapter along its entire circumference with a caliper, so that there is no distortion of the optical axis. Then I took three non-native screws M3x4, for a hex key and screwed them in from the inside of the KP-A / N, fixing it inside the macro ring (native screws have a straight slot - they are inconvenient to screw in from the inside). Next, paint with black matte paint all the places with bare metal. The paint should not fall on the outer part of the KP-A / N, otherwise it will spill into the camera. As a result, what we have: two macro rings - about $ 15, KP-A / N - about $ 3-4, the result is a working adapter that is placed on the factory thread of the lens and can be used with several lenses with a B mount, a whole lens - we don't saw anything on it, a long whole macro ring (my set consisted of two macro rings - 19 and 48), which can be used for macro photography.
