Yashica Auto Yashinon-DX 1: 1,7 f = 50mm is a very good fifty dollars. He has several brothers such as the Yashica Yashinon DS-M 50 mm f / 1.7 and the Yashica ML 50 mm f / 1.7. The optical design is very similar to the Planar.

В Promotions from Radozhiva №2 it was the Yashica 1,7 / 50 that was the intended lens, and many participants correctly expressed their opinions in the direction of the Planar 50mm F1.4-1.8. Interesting, but you can find information that Yashica collected some Carl Zeiss lenses.

The Yashica 1,7 / 50 focus ring rotates about 200 degrees, focusing is very smooth and light. Manual lenses usually have a tighter focus ring. The focus ring on the Yashica 1,7 / 50 can be rotated with one finger and at the same time it is well fixed and does not spontaneously spontaneously. When focusing, the trunk of the lens is extended by a centimeter.

The lens has a large enough aperture with aperture F / 1.7. This is 1.12 times larger than F / 1.8 and 1.47 times smaller than F / 1.4. When closing the diaphragm in the blur zone, you can get hexagons, since there are only 6 aperture blades. The lens has an aperture ring for switching the aperture control mode M \ A, which makes it possible to use it on modern central controllers without problems. Also, the lens has a depth of field and focusing distance.

Image quality

The lens gives a good contrast image. Sharp from F / 1.7. The drawing is 'soft and pliable'. The bokeh of the lens is slightly swirling, the so-called "cat's eye" (the discs of confusion are similar to lemons, the eyes of a cat). In general, you cannot complain about the quality.

How to use with modern cameras?

Lenses with mounting thread M42 (M42 X 1 / 45.5), such as the lens from this review, are very easy to use on almost any modern digital camera (both SLR and mirrorless), for this it is enough to choose the right adapter (adapter). You do not need to carry out any additional steps to modify the lens.

The cheapest adapters can be found at Aliexpress.com... There are adapters (adapters) with a chip that provide more convenience during shooting, usually chips are used to confirm focus and / or metering exposure, and form the correct EXIF. The chip does not affect the image quality in any way.

For some SLR cameras (for example, with the Nikon F-mount), you need to use adapters with a corrective lens, which allows you to focus correctly at all focusing distances. For any mirrorless cameras, such a lens is not needed, and the adapter is a simple decorated hollow metal tube with an appropriate mount.

For SLR cameras

  1. Canon: For cameras Canon EOS with bayonet mount EF / EF-S need an M42-Canon EOS adapter, such an adapter with a chip can be found herewithout chip here.
  2. NIKON: For cameras Nikon DX / FXas well as for cameras Fujifilm и Kodak with a Nikon F mount, you need an M42-Nikon F adapter, you can buy such an adapter without a lens and a chip here, with a lens without a chip herewith chip without lens here, with lens and chip here. Why a lens? Why chip?
  3. PENTAX: For Pentax cameras with K mount, you need an M42-Pentax K adapter, you can buy such an adapter here.
  4. SONY/MINOLTA: For cameras with a Sony / Minolta A mount, you need the M42-Sony A adapter, you can find such an adapter without a chip at this linkwith a chip at this link.
  5. OLYMPUS/PANASONIC/LEICA: For cameras with a 4/3 bayonet mount (not to be confused with Micro 4/3!) You need an M42-4 / 3 adapter, you can buy such an adapter here.

For mirrorless cameras

  1. SONY: For cameras with 'E'/'FE' mount series SonyNEX и Sony Alpha you need an adapter M42-Sony E (aka M42-Sony Nex), you can find it at this link. An autofocus adapter is also available for these cameras. Techart PRO Leica M - Sony E Autofocus Adapterwhich can be found at this link.
  2. OLYMPUS / PANASONIC / KODAK / XIAOMI: For cameras with a bayonet mount Micro 4/3 (Micro 4:3) you need an adapter M42-Micro 4/3, you can find it at this link.
  3. CANON M: For cameras with Canon EF-M mount need adapter M42-Canon M, it can be found at this link.
  4. CANON R and RF-S: For cameras with Canon RF mount need adapter M42-Canon R, it can be found at this link.
  5. Nikon 1: For cameras Nikon 1 Series need adapter M42-Nikon 1, you can find it at this link.
  6. Nikon Z: For cameras Nikon Z series (FX/DX) need an adapter M42-Nikon Z, it can be found at this link.

  8. FUJIFILM GFX: For medium format cameras G-mount need M42-Fuji GFX adapter, you can find it at this link.
  9. SAMSUNG: For cameras with NX mount, you need an M42-Samsung NX adapter, you can find it at this link. There are no adapters for the NX mini camera yet.

Personal experience

Yashica 1,7 / 50 is a good fifty dollars; it doesn't twist as much as Helios, it looks more like Carl Zeiss Planar, but for a more modest price. Focusing and working with the lens is very easy and enjoyable. By the way, Nikon owners do not need to think that the designation DX in this case, it somehow affects the work with FX, DX cameras. A prefix Cars it doesn’t mean the presence of autofocus, but only speaks for the ability to automatically control the iris.

Conclusions

Yashica Auto Yashinon-DX 1: 1,7 f = 50mm is an excellent fast prime with good image quality. Recommend.

  • Deimos

Thanks for the review and for the share. I think he guessed faster
PS Let's take another action, just don’t overdo it, otherwise there may be a D700 prize in the last action (I personally do not mind) = D

    • Arkady Shapoval

I’ll come up with a prize.

      • Vasil

I’m selling a lot of bad things to the market for money and yak a prize to go badly (: I thought of a lot of things, I’m sorry I didn’t forget how much they’ve forgotten (: So, we’ll wait for new ones:

  • Paul

At the expense of the lens. You wrote that you can use it without problems on the Central Control Commission, on Nikon there are no problems with infinity? And then with M42 this story is forever.

    • Arkady Shapoval

You can find about infinity in the section Soviet lenses. With m42, infinity is lost, but for me this is not a problem.

  • Glory

    Hello.
He doesn't take this lens for the most ... ... even such a motley pussy with her lemon eyes did not express!
He crawls up to our Helios-44 in color rendition as to KIEV ra ... ..
Definitely put him under the hammer. Amen.

    • Arkady Shapoval

This lens should not chase the Helios, since the Helios-44 is 58mm, and the Yashik is 50mm. There you have the difference.

    • Misha

To me personally, the drawing in the out-of-focus area on Helios 44 seems to be more “dirty”, here it smears not so much into a mess, but the outline clarity is lower, although it does not reach the takumara. (This is purely my personal opinion, in no way I pretend to be an absolute truth :))

      • Arkady Shapoval

If I tested it on crop, it would be more like Helios.

        • Misha

It would be interesting to look at Helios in full frame, especially with sharpness around the edges of the frame. I think it will be very, very soapy.

PS. Arkady, given the appearance of your D700, it's time to think about re-reviews of all lenses, but already at full frame.

          • Vasil

Seriously, you puzzled Arkadia, once again repeated test of all objects (:

      • Alexander

Mikhail, the truth is that in order to see contour sharpness, and in general the sharpness on any manual lens, you need practice. I purchased Yashica Auto Yashinon-DX 1: 1,7 f = 50mm in March 2021 for 3500 rubles. in perfect condition. I didn’t shoot a lot, because we shoot close-ups, where only 6 days a year there is no wind, no nerves are enough when everything is moving. But here's a pigeon in the park, in order to understand what kind of glass, I shot it at F / 2 on a Canon EOS 600D.

        • Novel

I have seen many assurances that you need to learn to see color, but learning to see sharpness is a revelation.

          • Alexander

Roman, and I also read such nonsense - “to learn to see sharpness” in the first. So, we are talking about the practice of shooting with manual lenses. Apparently it is not given to understand what I have read. An hour, not a relative of Klitschko?

            • Novel

So let's drink to the fact that in spite of everything ...

    • Alexander

Slava, this is helios to Yashik as to China with cancer. Your hands don't grow from there. It worked out for me. Great glass! And for Helios 44-M6 that I have, I completely forgot. The dog is shot at f / 2.8)

  • Egor

Great lens, very interesting picture! It is a pity that m42, but for Kenon a great option!

    • Arkady Shapoval

Take a look at the Helios-81N, Jupiter-37A, Vega-11U section, I have no other mine.

  • Arkady Shapoval

In fact, the picture of the lens from the full frame does not change, it just gets stronger / weaker in some scenes.

  • Glory

I have such a lens, I removed the Yashik I bought from my hands, the release is approximately 1974-75. I shot it on the 1100 canon. I noticed good sharpness, better than the Helios-44m and the industrial-61ls. But for some reason, my device is very strong overestimated ISO on it, you need to manually set it. But still, the quality of the landscapes is good, better, in my opinion, than that of helios and industrial. I was surprised at how sharp the optics of the Japanese were in the 70s, almost like the modern canon staffer. Objective very compact, smaller than our lenses mentioned above and several times smaller than the standard lens, convenient o.Dumayu shoot them esche.Gelios and Industar already clocked back to the zenith, Large Live will not shoot them, do not see the point, but this can be useful.

  • Valentine

    Good evening!
I came across a Yashica MC Zoom 35-70 mm f / 3.5-4.5 lens. The film is interesting.
But how to put it on Nikon? You haven’t found a review on it, unfortunately. The M42 adapter does not fit the lens thread.

    • anonym

Speak good on film? What kind of camera did you shoot on film? Minolta?

Recently purchased. Good plastic glass. I did not notice any special twisting of the bokeh. Extra large multi-turn focus ring travel - works great with macro rings. I also have a DS version (completely black, have not tested it yet)

    Radioactive Lens - Yashica Auto Yashinon-DX 50mm f / 1.4 (M42)

This video is probably closer to this lens.
      Radioactive Lens - Yashica Auto Yashinon-DS 50mm f / 1.7 (M42)
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2DyF3o7hQ4

Who does not know English - subtitles and further discussion can be briefly translated something like this:
Most of the radiation comes from the back of the lens. Thorium oxide was used to cover the rear lens in those days. The lens cap has not become radioactive for many years. The thickness of the camera is enough so that the particles do not reach the photographer. The author of the video writes that most people on the Internet find the lens safe for taking pictures. But there is a minority opinion that believes that the lens adds a little to your exposure and cannot be considered completely safe.

  • Yurii

and what does it mean - can you be irradiated when using this lens? ))

    • Zir

Yes you can, but for this you need to implant it in your body and wait ... 10 years ... You can still eat it. But 24-36 hours won't be enough. You will have to do this many times, well, if you need a result :) The Yashica TL-Electro camera works with film up to 1600 ISO. If his staff had at least minimal significant radiation, then if the camera was stored for a long time (days, weeks, months), it would light up the frame. And about the video - let him check the soles of his shoes. Surely they give no less radiation. Takeaway - don't lick the soles of your shoes and don't eat Yashica lenses! They are not tasty (I guess I haven't tested)! But the optical and mechanical quality of them is excellent, the Helios need to go through more than a dozen to find an equal copy.

With a bayonet mount, I would like to know how I can put it on the nikon d60.

I'd love to take pictures of him.

It looks like a Contax / Yashica mount. You can put it through the adapter Contax / Yashica - Nikon. But on Nikon, the tip will be a couple of meters.

  • Yar

A couple of years ago I bought a lens of the Yashik family - yashinon ds 1.9 / 50.

How many meters does it focus on Nikon?

How he will behave on SONY alpha 700 through an adapter. The same questions - how to shoot with infinity and whether the mirror will touch?

    • Zir

On SONY, through a regular adapter (M42-SONY A), it will become like a native one - Yashika's flange is 1mm longer than SONY's. Those. infinity will be and the mirror will not touch. If you have a version with a C / Y mount, then you need an adapter with a lens. But this will already be a completely different lens ...

Hello, there is the opportunity to purchase Yashica Auto Yashinon-DX 1: 1,7 f = 45mm.
Tell me if there are significant differences between this lens and the Yashica Auto Yashinon-DX 1: 1,7 f = 50mm lens.
    Is it possible to install Yashica Auto Yashinon-DX 1: 1,7 f = 45mm on the Kenon 1100D.

Hello, Arkady. This lens is on the Yashica fx-1. Tell me, please, in order to use it with Pentax sp-10 you need an adapter from T mount to K mount? And is it possible to get something from this duet? =)
    Thank you for your reply.

The question is, who used this glass on FF canon. Tail his mirror does not catch? as happens with 44-2 helios

    Hello
I have a Zenitar 50mm 1.7. Tell me, does it make sense to take the lens from a review or not. The quality is better / worse ???

    • anonym

If the zenithar is normal, not soapy, then there is no sense for sure.

  • Vladimir

I own such a lens. Good glass. Flexible, sharp, well made. As for me it’s slightly cold. Working with an open diaphragm.

  • Vladimir

Zenitar and yashica are completely different lenses. Boke so for sure

    Help)
I have a Nikon D70s. Is there any kind of adapter for the Yashica Lens DSB 50mm lens?

    • Oleg

Adapter C / Y - Nikon F. On aliexpress without a lens about 15 dollars, without a lens there will be no infinity, it will be possible to take pictures for a fifty-kopeck piece for a maximum of 2-3 meters, an adapter with a lens so that infinity appears, 2 times more expensive, probably corresponds to the price of the lens itself. And the additional lens will affect the quality. On the whole, the game is not worth the candle. It is unlikely that this is some kind of super unique lens, so as not to look for an alternative to it among manual fifty dollars. If with M42 thread, there will be no infinity without a lens, but the adapters themselves are sold at every corner and much cheaper. Or look for a manual fifty-kopeck piece for your native bayonet, from inexpensive ones, Helios 81H or its analogue called Arsat 81H.

      • Oleg

        If there is a C / Y mount (Contax / Yashica)
