Nikon D300 review

Nikon D300 review

Nikon D300 is positioned by Nikon as a professional APS-C camera (a camera with a matrix in which crop factor 1.5X). The camera was introduced on 23.08.2007 along with Nikon D3. D300 and D3 have opened up a whole new level of camera engineering among all Nikon cameras. A whole bunch of innovations was laid in them.

Popularly, Nikon D300 is legendary 'shooter', 'armor piercing', 'small D3', 'cropped D3', 'workhorse', etc. Actually, such epithets are the best characteristic of the camera.

View of Nikon D300 from different sides

The main parameters of the Nikon D300, which should be paid attention to the photographer:

1. Professional ergonomics in a very high quality case. The camera body is waterproof and dustproof. The entire body is made of magnesium alloy, this affects the weight of the camera (about 1 kg). The heavy weight of the camera helps with handheld photography and keeps weight balance well with heavy lenses. Even the lugs for the strap are asymmetrically positioned for proper weight distribution. The camera grip is rubberized, and the front and rear control dials are also rubberized. The camera fits perfectly in the hand.

The camera is very convenient to control, all the necessary control buttons are moved to convenient places. The Nikon D300 has an excellent large monochrome display for quick setup. Such a large monochrome display is only in Nikon D200 и Nikon D300s, other cropped models have this display 'cut down'. In general, Nikon D300 can be controlled only by this display and not enter the camera menu itself. But for whom it is not enough, Nikon D300 has an excellent 3-inch color display with 920.000 dots. The same display is used in Nikon D3, D3s, D700, D300s, D90... The camera has an 'info' button which calls up all basic settings on the color display.

2. The D300 uses a cropped CMOS sensor. Most likely the same matrix is taken as the basis for the camera Nikon D300s, D90 and D5000. The ISO range is available from 200 to 3200 units. Strange, but in the professional camera Nikon D300 ISO is used instead of ISO 100 lo1, which is a plug-in and is equivalent to ISO 100. The ISO value can be expanded up to 6400 units (indicated by 'Hi1'). I do not recommend shooting at ISO higher than 1600. At present, the matrix does not show very clear images at high ISO. 12 megapixels are enough for any kind of standard tasks.

3. The camera has a huge maximum continuous shooting speed - Nikon D300 is one of the fastest "crop". The camera can shoot 6 frames per second. And if you connect an additional power supply unit (booster), then the speed increases to 8 k / s.

4. Nikon D300 has a built-in focusing motor, which allows the use of non-motorized lenses marked with 'AF', sometimes this allows you to save on optics. Also the camera can work with old AI lenses and AI-S types. You can store information on 10 manual lenses.

5. A very important indicator of camera speed is the frame buffer capacity. The buffer is the fast internal memory of the camera, where the captured photos are stored before they are written to the memory card. The Nikon D300 can hold a maximum of 18 frames in RAW format.

  • 17 frames with 12 bit RAW lossless compression
  • 18 frames with 12 bit RAW standard compression
  • 15 frames at 14 bit RAW
  • 14 frames in TIFF format
  • 21 frames in JPEG L format, quality priority

You can save RAW files in the camera in several ways: 12 or 14 bits per pixel and one of three compression levels. TIFF format is available.

Important: when shooting in RAW format with 14 bit color depth, the maximum shooting speed will be only 2.5 frames per second. This is a serious limitation, so if you count on a 14-bit color depth, you will need to sacrifice speed. One RAW file with 14 bit color depth occupies 25 MB on the card. The problem with a low shooting speed at 14 bit was solved in Nikon D7000but she surfaced again in Nikon D7100.

Important: when you turn on noise reduction at high ISO, noise reduction at slow shutter speeds, enable Active D-lighting frame buffer can be reduced to only 6 shots. I usually turn off all these features when shooting in RAW.

6. The camera can use Live View. True, the activation of the mode occurs through the mode selection ring near the "tower" of control. This location of the Live View switch is very inconvenient. Live View works in two modes: “tripod” and “manual”. In one of them, you can compose images through the display, but when you press the shutter button, the camera turns off Live View and focuses through the focus sensors, and only then takes a picture. In the other mode, Live View works like a conventional point-and-shoot camera, allowing you to focus using contrast focusing. When zoomed in on a portion of the image using Live View, the image begins slow down, such a defect is no longer in Nikon D90.

7. The Nikon D300 has one of the best Multi-CAM 3500DX Focusing Systems, which includes 51 focus points (15 of which are cross-shaped). The same number of focus points have Nikon D3, D3s, D3x, D4,D4s, D800,D800e, D7100 и D700. Focusing is very tenacious and has a huge amount of settings. Focus speed is very dependent on the lens.

8. The camera’s battery can withstand over 1000 shots on a single charge. In fact, if you use a lens without autofocus and without a stabilizer, you can squeeze over 2000 frames on a single charge. Batteries are fully compatible with Nikon D90, D200, D80, D700.

9. Camera supports fast FP sync with external flashes. This means that with external flash it will be possible to shoot at any shutter speed, even for 1 \ 8000 s (the shortest excerpt in the camera). Also, the flash may work in command mode and control two groups of flashes using Nikon CLS. You can set the sync speed to 1 \ 320 s.

10. The camera has another million useful little things: fine-tuning the focus for different lenses, the processing functions of captured images, bracketing for different values, etc.

Nikon D300 is the continuation of the line, which previously included Nikon D100 и D200. The camera body is very, very similar to D200after I exchanged my camera Nikon D200 on Nikon D300, for writing a review, when manipulating the camera during shooting, I did not feel any difference. The controls are in their convenient places, all the buttons are the same.

Separately, it is worth considering the difference between Nikon D200 and D300

  1. The main difference in the number of focus points. 11 points D200 and 51 points on the D300. The difference is almost 5 times.
  2. The D300 optical viewfinder covers 100% of the frame, the D200 only 95%, which allows you not to be afraid of the edges of the frame when shooting.
  3. D300 has Live View
  4. The D300 has a matrix cleaning system. The types of matrices are also different: CCD vs CMOS.
  5. The D300 has a much quieter sensor than the D200. The D200's biggest problem is its very “noisy” matrix.
  6. Burst speed increased to 6 (up to 8 with a booster) frames per second, versus 5 fps for D200
  7. The display has increased. The difference in the display when viewing pictures is very much felt.
  8. D300 works much better with voluminous memory cards
  9. D300 consumes an order of magnitude better battery life. One battery charge in the D300 is enough for 1000-1500 frames, and in the D200 only for 400-500.
  10. The D300 can save 14-bit RAW files, which improves the original image during processing.

The rest of the cameras are very similar. The old D200 has even one advantage over the D300: frame buffer holds 21 frames, while the D300 has only 18, given the camera speeds, the D200 can shoot continuous high-speed shooting for a couple of seconds longer than the D300. (21/5 = 4,2 seconds versus 18/6 = 3 seconds, or 18/8 = 2,25 seconds). But since the D300 works better with memory cards, the difference is not particularly noticeable. I do not recommend upgrading D200 to D300, D300s without much need.

To date, the Nikon D300 is morally obsolete, it has successor Nikon D300s. Details the difference between Nikon D300 and D300s described in Nikon D300s review.

For whom will such a camera be useful?

First of all, Nikon D300 will be useful for professional photographers who can apply all the useful functions hidden behind the huge camera menu. Especially the D300 is good at reporting. For beginners, I do not recommend buying the Nikon D300. If there is a desire to join the ranks of the owners of the CZK, then to begin Nikon D90, D7000 much better, but you can even start with Nikon D40.

Sample photos on Nikon D300

All photos in this review were shot on Nikon D300, RAW + JPEG, JPEG L quality priority, ADL normal, Noise reduction on. The size is reduced to 2048 * 1536 and the data about the shooting parameters from EXIF. All photos were taken with Nikon 50mm F1.8D.

UPDATE 2

Examples of photos on HELIOS-44M 2/58 and camera Nikon D300 with readers of Radozhiva shared by photographer Alexander Gvozd.

Personal experience:

I really like the Nikon D300 because it has a full Live View, but there is no video mode that I do not need. Working with the Nikon D300 is very pleasant, since all the controls are at hand. The camera works with any optics that can be planted on it. In hand Nikon D7000 и Nikon D7100 inferior to the convenience of the D300, and for me, convenience is a very important indicator, since I have to run around with the camera all day. On the other hand, Nikon D300 is much inferior in some respects to brand new cameras.

Hack and predictor Aviator

Nikon D300 performs very well in use, it is one of the best Nikon 'crop'. In an unequal struggle with time, it began to yield in some parameters to newer amateur cameras. But still, when working at low ISO - Nikon D300 is a camera, after 'talking' with which you don't want to use something else.

Good evening. Question to the Guru: “We offered Nikon d300 2008 onwards, all the time in the same hands, mileage up to 17000, excellent condition (perfect). I have d 90. Should you buy the d300? " Thanks.

    • Michael

Arkady wrote a little higher that no

    • Oleg

Good day . Found on the purchased D300 3 white pixels. How to be with them? Will the whole matrix increase and can it be changed?

      • Michael

cheaper to buy a camera than to change a matrix. These are broken pixels, if so annoying, contact the service for remapping

  • Berimor

And why ? If you can briefly describe. Thanks .

    • Michael

I’m not Arkady, I can’t know why he has such an opinion. Most likely due to the fact that you will not get an increase in image quality, because matrices are the same. And the improvement in ergonomics, apparently, is not worth the double difference in price. Although I personally really like this device

      • Koba

I would venture to give some advice - if you often shoot fast-moving subjects with autofocus, if a large viewfinder is not a luxury for you, then the D300 is definitely better. Besides, all the same, the pictures from it turn out a little better, especially if you shoot in 14 bits at a reduced speed. In terms of convenience, the D300 surpasses not only the D90, but also most modern cameras. The atvertka works about 50 percent faster on it than on the D90, and more precisely. In general, focus on it misses less often, including low light, when the D90 even just stands up, the D300 focuses slowly. If you have a 1.4 aperture lens and want to shoot something when the sun is open, then a shutter speed of 1/8000 will just save you ...

  • anonym

Well, 1/8000 is also on d90, but otherwise you are right. The 300-ki autofocus is very good and the large viewfinder is also a good thing. In 300 there is a fine-tuning AF, you can score a parameter for a lens without AF, and also matrix metering with any glass, and if you put the camera in aperture priority mode, the camera will automatically select the necessary shutter speed. By the way, this will work with any lens, even if it does not have a repeater, for example with the Yu-37. The main thing is that the BB works better there, also from the buns, you can download various mods of the piccolot of the control from the site, which will allow you to confidently use the camera in jpg

    • Alexander

At d90, the minimum shutter speed is 1/4000

  • Vladimir

I thought about changing the camera. I began to study the question. Now I'm shooting on D300 - I really like the controls, but the camera is still 10 years old. I thought modern cameras like the D5500 improved the photo quality on ISO 1600-3200, only because of this I had a desire to update. Lots of laudatory reviews on the net. BUT I studied full sizes on a pixelpeper from both cameras on iso 1600 and oh, horror! The quality is no better. The D300 certainly has noise, and the D5500 has a watercolor - all the "quality" is provided by a new processor with noise reduction. Conclusion: change D300 only to D500. Links to full sizes:

    Hello

I work as a teacher at school, and in my free time I photograph our school activities.
I shoot on d5100 + 35mm 1.8 in the auditorium (darkish) + kit inside the classroom.

Children are very nimble creatures both in life and on stage, and I lack the capabilities of this technique - they smear individual characters.

Decided that replacing the camera might help. And I decided to consult - can you tell me:
    1) Can the d300 solve this problem with insufficient focus speed?
    2) Will it provide speed if you put a Nikon 20mm 2.8 lens on it (without an internal motor)?

    • KalekseyG

From the carcass 35 will not accelerate, but with an external flash to the ceiling, the children will freeze in the pictures. Take the puff of kitaymeyd and with a shutter speed of 1/200 or so the aunts will not smear.

    • Oleg

Photos are blurry, not because of the speed of autofocus, but because of the long exposure. Focusing speed will allow you to quickly capture the moment, but will not solve the problem of lubrication due to the long shutter speed. Set ISO higher to shorten shutter speed. If the camera does not allow you to set a high ISO value or gives a low-quality picture at high ISO, then you need to look for a camera that works well at high ISO.

    • Arkady Shapoval

      Good afternoon.
      1) 35 1.8 in itself is rather slow, therefore there is no problem in the camera. D300 with 35 1.8 will not help
      2) with 20 2.8 it will be very fast
But the problem is exposure. You need at least 1/200, but it is better to shoot with an external flash.

  • Alexander

I heard the shutter speed and flash

I’m unlikely to resolve the issue with ISO due to the budget of my initiatives amid the desire to use relatively affordable af lenses.

But I will conduct experiments with the flash. thanks

  • sasha

Hello. I'm interested in this camera, Nikon D300. Here's the question-
Will the camera's exposure meter work with manual optics? Soviet. The article says: “The camera can also work with older AI and AI-S lenses. You can store information for 10 manual lenses. ” but I don’t know what that means.
I have a Nikon F80 film camera; the aperture cannot be read on it and I have to adjust everything through an extraneous exposure meter (in the phone)
On a friend’s camera on Canon, there is a light meter that simply determines the desired shutter speed.

    • KalekseyG

It will be itself, even without a lens. Set the aperture to the desired value, and the shutter speed itself.

      • sasha

How is it myself? that is, in manual mode, the exposure meter will show where to turn the shutter speed? If so then excellent. I just have a Nikkor autofocus lens, and 3 Soviet ones. Jupiter 37a and Helios. I'm interested in shooting on a manual.

        • KalekseyG

He will be in the aperture priority mode. "AND"

        • Michael

It will fully work in modes M and A.

  • Alex

    Hello.
I want a digital camera. Here the choice fell on the Nikon D300 and canon 60d.
The price is almost the same. Which advise is better?

    • Michael

Watching for what. D300 class taller and harder

      • Alex

I'm not interested in the video. I want for a photo. Here is one plus in convenience I see this rotary screen. I have optics for Nikon. But in kenon like 18 megapixels.

        • Michael

I didn't mean the video. I meant what to shoot. 18 PM Canon is pretty lousy, better to take newer matrices (70D), they are almost the same in image quality as the old ones (450 was). The question is in optics. If you like taking pictures of people or need a TV range of up to 300 mm - Canon is preferable, because cheaper. If there is more landscape, Nikon is better. Because of what I sold Canon and.

        • Michael

It is also worth considering the reporting features (if needed). The 60D camera is truncated, it is better to take the 50D for reporting, or the same D300 - they are sharpened for this.

  • Oleg

Tell me which mode when shooting in Jpeg is preferable for a portrait? standard neutral or saturated? Or is it better to create your own mode specifically for a portrait? I have not yet figured out how to do this and whether it is possible.

  • Love

    Hello!
Now I'm shooting on the d3200, but I feel that I’m already "missing" it. I choose between d7000 and d300. What do you advise?
I am shooting reports and walking photo sessions, and I plan to start shooting at weddings.

    • Denis

      d7100 is better than d7000

  • Vladimir

I generally shoot on d1 and do not worry!

  • Igor

I bought myself a “boo” with low mileage in a pair to d7100 I really like the camera both in terms of ergonomics and work

  • Alexey

Good day. Advise which camera is better to take after 7000 Nikon?

    • rafonpro

After 7000 it only makes sense for a full frame. D600, D750, D800

  • Yevgeniy

But I still take a 300-ku in a pair to the 7500th Nikon (found a carcass in very good condition, shot less than 35k, for 17k rubles). I wanted to take a D200 from a friend, it was painful for me to like the picture this camera draws, but the age was embarrassing for a bit (15 years).

    • Alexey

Why paired up? Are you a professional photographer?

      • Valery A.

Why professional? It is enough to be an amateur experimenter.

        • Alexey

Well, if for the sake of experiment, it is better not to buy D200, but to sell 7500, and still experiment with D 600/610

          • Valery A.

Money-money. I would experiment with 800. And the available d200 or even d40,50 in good light give a very picture.

            • Alexey

Well, minus 7500, plus 17kr. which is ready to pay for d300, quite d600-610. And play around, then yes - d40.

            • Eugene

About the D200 - I agree: when I used it, I had a Canon 1300D in a pair, and I liked the picture of 15-year-old Nikon more than that of the almost unworn Canon. Therefore, I collected all the Canon's in a heap, gave and took a zero D7500, which suits me 100500%, no matter what they write about it.
As for the older models like 600/610/800 - I'm not yet ready for a full frame, even though almost all the optics I have are designed specifically for it (AF Nikkor 50 mm 1.8D, 35-70 mm 2.8 (non -D), 80-200 mm 2.8D; one single cropped lens - superzoom AF-S 18-300 mm 3.5 - 5.6). Yes, and it is unrealistic to find 600/610/800 in good condition (with or without mileage) for reasonable money

              • anonym

And what is the lack of readiness for a full frame? You have glasses for a full frame of the film era, and 24 mp. on f.f. this is exactly what the “doctor ordered”. In terms of money, zero 7500 costs as much as zero 610. In terms of shooting, a full frame is much simpler, because forgives photographers mistakes much more willingly than crop. It's something in your head.

    • Alexander

17t.r. for such a run is not so cheap. Look at eWow, there are offers much more interesting. Just yesterday I took my d300 with mileage of 5500 at the post office and paid only 16400 for it, so the Japanese also put a high-speed memory card as a gift. By the way, I took it in pair to d200.

  • Alex

Guys. I use d300 god. I am happy. Ergonomics and professionalism are felt. After upgrading from D-90. But I don’t understand one thing. In lifeview mode, the shutter opens… I take a picture… and the photo is not recorded. Just does not take pictures. Although there is a sound of the shutter. I re-read the instructions. Everything is simple there ... but in practice, in this mode, the camera does not shoot. Who faced?

    • Victor

There was something similar with d300s, then I tried just longer to press the shutter button and the photo was displayed. Glitchy, of course.

  • Lyuban

Arkady, tell me please, does it make sense to change d5100 to d300? I rent most often my son, smart as an electric broom). Sometimes friends / acquaintances when asked. Not commerce. Although offers are periodically received. Maybe someday I will decide and agree). Sometimes I walk around the city, take off all sorts of different things.

    • Lyuban

The lack of automatic modes is not scary. There is no problem with that. I always shoot in the “man” mode) (M). Sigma 50 1.4EX lens

  • Dmitriy

Arkady, if you compare the autofocus d300 and d7000, is the difference significant?

  • Mayan

this question is also of interest, what the author has above, is it worth changing d5100 to d300? I have Sigma 50 1/4

    • Alexander

If you have this question, then most likely it’s not worth it.
d300 will give promptness, good autofocus, slim body, 400 g of mass, greater autonomy, the best viewfinder, the ability to configure anything (you can really dig into the settings). But the picture will remain at the same level, and maybe even a little roll back to ISO. Decide whether you need it or not.

    • Valery

I use both d5100 and d300, and I just like this sigma of 50 1.4 to d300 more like the natural color rendering, like film colors. If you have questions, write, I will answer as an experienced user of such a technique.

  • Tatyana

Good evening! Tell me, I have a Canon 600d, I want a more professional one, for working with manual optics, the budget is limited, is it possible to take the d300 in good condition, does it make sense to take it?

    • Oleg

Why not? What confuses you? An excellent device, albeit quite old, but in terms of functionality it will give odds to many modern junior models. It depends on what you expect from him, as it were ...

    • Novel

To begin with, you cannot work with manual optics on the M42 without an adapter with a lens that degrades the image. This is more than half of Soviet lenses (well, except for those that allow you to change the shank).

Next, you change the system, i.e. your canon autofocus lenses go forest.

As for the "more professional" ... More focusing points (but you have manual optics, that is, you will most often focus on the center or on the eye in general) and moisture protection. Actually, that's all. You will not get significant advantages that make it easier to work with manual glasses (in some places, even vice versa), well, unless it will be Nikon's manual glasses.

It may be worth looking in the direction of a budget full frame. Even the notorious Canon 5D, if it can be found in good condition and at a normal price. In a large full-frame viewfinder it is more convenient to focus, and the M42 optics will become without problems.

Manual optics is a pleasure for an amateur. Especially on the crop. I played around, realized that it is more important for me to think about the composition and the frame, and not to solve constant problems with focusing and hope that the frame will be sharp.

      • Valery

You are not right for a manual brush. I used Helios and there is for example 135 mm on which the thread changes to Nikon. And no lenses needed. Everything works fine

        • Novel

"This is more than half of Soviet lenses (well, except for those that allow you to change the shank)."

And there is also an H-mount, that is, even without an adapter. But almost everything available - either dark, or not very suitable for crop. And everything interesting is inaccessible. Jasper-4, for example (300 / 2.8)

It’s better to sit on OLX / Avito and others and hunt for inexpensive autofocus with something for the native system. 50 / 1.8, 85 / 1.8, 135 / 2.8, 24 / 2.8, 50 / 1.4. Native zoom is enough. The whim will pass, and with these glasses it will be possible to work. It is to work, and not one dozen more years.

    • Valery

I have d300 and I used Helios and there is Jupiter 37A 135mm. For example, he has a thread replaced by a Nikon bayonet. Everything works and no additional lenses that degrade the quality are needed. By the way, I sell d300, like new.

      • Dalv

Hello, what is the price of your device?

  • Vladimir

CAN I USE THE MC-DC2 REMOTE CONTROL WITH THIS CAMERA?

  • Novel

Guys! Need some advice ... tired of choosing between D7000 and D300
Now I'm using the D3100, it really doesn't carry ...
Visually, the D300 is more to my liking - the placement of the keys is more laconic, autofocus is the same as in the D7100 (sometimes I work with it), but confuses CF (SD is more familiar, perhaps)
On optics I have 50 1.8G and Sigma 17-50mm 1: 2.8 EX DC OS HSM
I would take the D7100 for myself, but the budget does not ...

    • Oleg

The D300 is definitely better than 7000, but the 300s are even better. A CompactFlash is now quite affordable, especially used.

    • 1Ds_mk3

Only because of the capabilities of the matrix - d7000.
$ 300 a lot of ushatannye. They were taken for work, not for a hobby.

      • anonym

I agree, the matrix in d7000 Sonya Exmore is much better.
and between SD and CF is better and more reliable CF.

I shot the d300 and d90, now in the bag are the d7100 and d40. D7100 almost stopped shooting and I will sell it. I think either to buy a sete back d300 or to buy Nikkor 35mm 1.8 glass, since nikkor 24-70 2.8 is not always convenient to carry with you. Why is d300 better than d7100 for me.
the 7100 has a cool matrix from toshiba without a filter, this device provides very good sharpness and detail, it also has a very good screen for viewing footage. And now why am I selling it. 24MP, a very small pixel on the crop, in order to get a sharp frame (for me) with a focal 50mm shutter speed I had to set 1 \ 70 minimum, or better 1 \ 120. Weight is neither this nor that. It is much larger than d40 or d3000, but not much lighter and less than d300, with a heavy lens the brush gets tired and it is not as cool to hold it as the AK-74 (d300). Well, the most (for me) oops are his raves and color, I take pictures of more people, pale-faced European people, what to make a good, lively skin. it takes a long time to pick the converter, too long for me. The ergonomics after 300 are simply meager, and never used to it. Conclusion if the guru is ACR or RawTherapee, then you will like the 7100, provided that you have good optics: sigma art, gold fixes nikkora, carl cesa, etc. and you will be shooting in the studio or in landscapes - yes the 7100 would be a great budget option. But if you have a reportage and people or a family and do not have a lot of time to process, then d300 will be much better. Just don't take the d300s, you can't import presets from D2X into it, only d300, d700 and D3. With these persets, you can peel right away in jpg and with skin tone and color everything will be ok at once, good luck in choosing.

“Import presets from D2X, only to d300” - can you tell more about that? How different is the color? I haven't walked my d300 well yet, but its color seems to be pretty good, and its settings in the menu are quite flexible.

        • Michael

Standard thing. Record the preset to a USB flash drive and import into the camera. It turns out a new custom style. You can do them yourself in ViewNX.

Nikon has an official preset for the d300 d700 and d3 cameras on their website. Below is a link with a description, instructions and URL to download.

          Mode1 - for photographing people;
          Mode2 - neutral option;
          Mode3 - landscapes

Hello, is it worth changing d7000 to d300? comparing these cameras, I noticed that the d300 wins only in autofocus. And this is essential

        • anonym

to understand why to change, decide what you want to get at the output.
What exactly does not suit you in the d7000 so much that you want the d300?

If you shoot sports events for real money and you have a park of decent smart fast lenses, then yes.
But you lose in the picture. DD and noise will become worse. Working ISO 800-1200. The D7000-D5100 and 1600 can be set there.
If you shoot not for money, then there is no sense in changing it unambiguously.
D300 / D300s are a lot of ushatany and they are not so expensive on the secondary.
D7000 is a lot of fresh. I would not sell the D7000. Because if the camera is in good condition, then it can stretch for a long time. And on the secondary D7000 are now criminally cheap, despite the fact that it once cost $ 1200. Well i.e. steal for money and all.

Hello. Please tell me where can I import presets from Nikon D2? I will be very grateful. Sincerely, Igor.

        • Arkady Shapoval

The native converters have them by default.

d300 wins not only in focus, it lies much better in the hand, it has professional ergonomics. If for home shooting, then the shots are better, you just hold this camera in your hands, and it “somehow itself” provokes, inspires for successful shots, I did it)). I bought d80, d90, d2h, d7000, d7100, d40 at flea markets - the easiest way for me was to get nice, sincere shots with d300 and d40. The lenses were different: MC HELIOS-77M-4, Jupiter-37A, Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f / 1.8G, Nikon AF Nikkor 35-70mm 1: 2.8D and Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f / 2.8G ED - with all these lenses, the d300 produced memorable shots. The D300 is not a panacea, it is just now very cheap, but at the same time it takes cool pictures, not only does it, but inspires to take cool shots.

Please help me choose a lens for D3000. For a portrait, shooting outdoors, just high-quality pictures. Recently I bought a Nikkor 50 diaphragm for 220 euros, God, what a horror. It darkens all the blackouts on the face, making the drops even darker, in order to make them full-length, it is necessary to move 20 meters away from the person, and the focusing is often not clear on what is being done, because the face is without sharpness .... Before that there was 15-35, two, the autofocus breaks for a month or two, the pictures are also so-so ... ..

    • Michael

Which nikkor 50? Model can be more precise?

    • Alex

"Darkens all blackouts on the face, making the differences even darker" - after that there can be only one advice - "Study, study and study again!" Only your incorrect settings and misunderstanding of the processes of creating snapshots "obscure". In order not to move 20m away from the person (by the way, there is not 20m at all), buy a 35 / 1.8.

Learn materiel))) judging by your descriptions, you have only the most vague ideas about photography. Learn ma'am 🌹

welcome! How is the camera in terms of reliability? but something very little information on this issue. Is the mileage of 120000 frames in the used d300 scary, or does it last much longer?

    • Alexander

The reliability of the d300 is good, but you should not take a camera with such a mileage. The market is full of much more recent options for quite reasonable money.

D300 runs up to 300k easily, often changing the shutter to ~. 500k
