I also want to tell you about my experience, I purchased a device called a 50mm version D because of an inexpensive price tag, that is, without autofocus, but the picture is of course after the whale fire, but I use it one pain, my friends invited me to the photo studio, it's tin, I shot 1500 70 percent of them didn’t fall into sharpness, that's why there are so many, so the shutter is a pity))) when you are not in a hurry to work even at home and even with a more closed aperture, you still often miss.
Who plans to take heed, it is better to dig up on version G.
And now about the focal length of 50mm (with crop matrix) for the street, large rooms, yes, but damn it is not necessary to take a person to the full height in large rooms, I have to try my best at the photo studio, and in some cases I got a maximum large portrait.
Better consider 35mm (for crop) it takes wider.

Did you use the camera's automation to focus (prompts under-flight of the rangefinder scale and confirmation of focusing accuracy by the indicator in the OVI) or "by eye"? I had a small percentage of focus missing by 3100.

About 18-55. Used with a Nikon D300 camera.
Provided there is sufficient lighting and shooting at a distance of up to 2,5 m, it will do.
If the distance is greater, you have to adjust.
At 3 meters with an aperture of 4.5, it is already undershot. True, almost imperceptible, but there is.
More distance means more offset. Moreover, it can be both a plus and a minus.
In order to shoot at 18 mm you need to be a magician at all. Either a flight, then a shortage.
    This is about focus.
As for the color rendering, it is generally dark. Yes, in the light it is acceptable .. But on condition that the sun does not go down xza cloud and so on. The BB on the machine, with insufficient light, gives faces of the color of beetroot or ripe carrots.
As Arkady wrote, "... to take a wonderful photo with the simplest cheap and plastic zoom Nikon 18-55mm 1: 3.5-5.6GII lens - you have to try." Yes, and a thousand times yes. I'm not saying it's impossible. I say that it will take a thousand and one features of this lens to hold.
As for 50 / 1,8 AF - SUPER, such a cool combination as nikon d300s and nikkor 50 / 1,8 is something to look for. !! EXACT COLORING !! No sarcasm! Precise autofocus! This is a song, or even a Kallashnikov assault rifle, not otherwise.
Nikkor 24-70 / 2,8 is generally the coolest song - on the D300 crop it turns out something like 31-90.

I bought this lens before a trip to Venice (2010) for the simple Nikon D50. I took a few more lenses with me.
Upon my return, having examined the results of the session, I was amazed at the fantastic, ringing sharpness of the image, including its depth - at seemingly very modest indicators and a rather sparing price.

I thought for a long time that this version is better than VR
but when I saw a glow around bright objects (what VR does not suffer from), I realized that I was wrong

Well, the d50 has 6 megapixels, what is there to allow then? There, the bottom of the bottle will normally remove. Even Canon 20d and then 8.

Tell me who has such a lens. I bought it for an old D50, but it constantly rattles something, and when it is turned on and off, otherwise everything is fine both in sharpness and in autofocus and in the stabilizer. I don’t pay attention to rattling, but all the same, what is it, a bug or a feature?

There is no VR in the lens viewed here. “Rattling” - you mean something rattles when shaken? This is probably a bug. I have this lens, when rocking something knocks inside, when looking at it you can see a deformed cuff on the front glass, etc. traces of disassembly, but the image is very decent, better than its next brother.

it seems like they don't have a bayonet-style hood. on the pictures only the thread 52 is inside. and the advantages and disadvantages are useful to divide by weight. newer VR multi-lenses have fewer technical drawbacks but fewer photographic advantages. the version has a lot of technical flaws - but they are subtle or fixable in the post or by Nikon-gen2 itself in jypeg (chromabre and we can distort in newer ones). in the presence of photographic merits - purity of color and contrast and low clearance and much more photo-side. to correct dignity already unnecessarily and they can be immediately written to jypeg. but the newer VRs have some of their shortcomings fixed by hardware, but their shortcomings in more spoiled colors and terrible technical bokeh and flares already have no special opportunity to fix it in a post or a robot in fotik-gen2. photo difference however. the development of nikon's whales after these shydevrov went to a photo-degenerate with a higher technical quality for megapuxels.

“good / excellent resolution in the center of the frame at covered apertures (around F / 5.6-F / 10) over the entire range of focal lengths.” How to understand it? How many lines per mm in the center and along the edge?

For modern lenses, even manufacturers have not provided such information for a long time.
