Despite the fact that the lens is positioned as SP (Super Performance), the build quality is better. The new Tamron A09 lenses feature lightweight play on the retractable body frame. Over time, the backlash becomes stronger, the backlash of the zoom ring and the focus ring appears. Holding the lens in my hands it seems that it is about to crumble. Also, over time, the rubber bands of the zoom ring swell and exfoliate. Parts of the lens can sometimes creak. Build quality is similar to Tamron 17-50mm F / 2.8 XR Di II LD Aspherical (IF). But unlike 17-50, the 28-75mm version lasts a very long time, and the picture quality does not suffer from the shakiness of the case.

The focus and zoom rings are rubberized. Tamron A09 has metal bayonet mount. The retractable trunk of the lens consists of one section.

There is a mark on the case for quick installation of the hood. The lens uses a plastic lens Tamron DA09, which is fixed in special grooves located near the front lens of the lens. The hood can be installed in the opposite direction for transportation. In this position, access to the zoom and focus ring is practically not lost.

To prevent such an unpleasant nuance, the lens lock button 'LOCK' (the so-called 'lock') is present on the lens body, which tightly locks focal length at a value of 28 mm.

To fix the trunk of the lens, you must first set the 28 mm focal length.

The lens is inconvenient to 'remove from the lock' before shooting, since the button is in a very inconvenient place.

Also, note that while changing the focal length, the rear lens moves in the middle of the lens body like a pump - it draws in and pushes out air. This behavior of the rear lens is called 'effect' of a vacuum cleaner, which can increase the amount of dust that accumulates in the camera.

Focusing

The focus ring rotates only 45 degrees, which makes manual focusing quite difficult. During auto focus the ring rotates and cannot be touched.

Auto focus fast, internal type... Auto focus is quite noisy. The lens has a scale with a focusing distance scale in meters and feet. The closest focusing distance is 33cm and the maximum zoom ratio is 1: 3.9, which is quite good. The inscription 'Macro' on the lens is more for show, since the 'real' macro lens cannot shoot.

Versions A09N and A09N II

There are two versions of the Tamron A09 lens for Nikon cameras: Tamron SP AF Aspherical XR Di LD [IF] 28-75mm 1: 2.8 Macro A09 (Model A09N) and Aspherical LD ​​XR DI SP Tamron AF 28-75mm f / 2.8 [IF] Macro A09 (Model A09N II).

  1. Version A09N was released from 2003 to 2008. Version A09N II is available from 2008 to the present day.
  2. The A09N II version has a built-in micro-focus motor, which allows the lens to be used with any Nikon camera, even entry-level amateur cameras. In fact, for Nikon cameras, the A09N II version is 'AF-S' alike. Unfortunately, the name does not show the presence of a focusing motor.
  3. Different names. Tamron is generally very fond of long names for their lenses. If you look closely, the A09N version in its name has the following sequence of 'titles': “Tamron SP AF Aspherical XR Di LD [IF] 28-75mm 1: 2.8 Macro”. The A09N II version has a different name, with rearranged 'titles' and a different aperture designation: “Aspherical LD ​​XR DI SP Tamron AF 28-75mm f / 2.8 [IF] Macro”.
  4. The auto focus speed of the A09N II is slightly lower than the previous version. Especially the difference in focusing speed is felt on TOP cameras that have fast and powerful built-in focus motor.
  5. The A09N II has an 'AF / MF' focus mode switch located on the lens barrel. The A09N version does not have such a switch.
  6. A09N II removed the aperture control ring.
  7. Other changes and improvements to the lenses are possible, but exact additional information is not available.

Important: There are two sub-versions of A09N with different enlightenment. The first sub-versions have enlightenment, which makes the picture yellowish in JVI and seriously biases white balance in the yellow line (bottle glass). Image quality

In the center, the lens is sharp across the entire range of focal lengths and even at F / 2.8. True, on F / 2.8 I would like better lens performance. If you cover the aperture to F / 4.0, then the claims for sharpness in the center of the frame disappear altogether. Unfortunately, the sharpness at the corners and edges of the frame on a full-format camera is much better. Also, the lens suffers from severe vignetting at open apertures, especially at 28 mm focal length.

Needless to say, distortion is indispensable here, however, it has a uniform appearance and is easily corrected by the editor. Chromatic aberrations pretty well fixed and rarely seen in the frame. Tamron A09 has a good contrast and behaves well in backlight. In addition, the lens has at least some of its own more or less nice design. In general, Tamron A09 does not create anything revolutionary for the money, but at the same time, image quality should be sufficient for most tasks.

As an example, this Tamron gives a magnification of 1: 3.9, which means that the image is projected onto the sensor about 4 times less than in reality. True “macro” is a ratio of 1: 1, but only “real” specialized macro lenses use it. Of the most affordable macrushniks for the d3300 are Nikon 40 / 2.8G, Tamron 60 / 2.0, Tamron 90 / 2.8 II.

The forest was coniferous and the shadow was not strong. For an acceptable shutter speed, I had to raise the ISO to 400, and this is at 2.8 aperture. This made me think, and at home I decided to compare Tamron 28-75 and Nikkor 24-70 in terms of light transmittance. Immediately, of course, it's worth saying - I was comparing in a hurry - Tamron was on d700 and Nikkor on d800. As a result, it turned out that at the same settings at an aperture of 2.8, Nikkor takes pictures noticeably darker than Tamron! How can this be, because there are all sorts of nano-glasses against the usual plastic nonsense from tamron!

      And the more they pass through your hands, the faster this understanding will come.
      Take both lenses and one camera and alternately change and compare the picture, shooting in the same conditions.

    I bought this device along with the Nikon D610 carcass. He doubted very much, but still decided on the advice of Arkady. I don't regret it at all. I checked the focusing accuracy in the store - neither the back nor the front focus was found, everything is clear. It says “made in Japan” on the case. I did not notice any autofocus misses. Filmed indoors and outdoors. This lens may not be an option for the pros, but as an amateur I am very pleased. The wide angle is a little lacking, but on the crop I used the 18-55 kit and in terms of conversion it turned out the same - 27mm. As for the build quality, I can't say anything bad, it is well assembled, nothing loosens, nothing dangles. For this money - the best option, I chose for a long time, went through many options. If you are limited in the budget then I advise you will not go wrong.

    For use on the Nikon D7500, I choose between this lens and the Nikon 24-85mm f / 3.5-4.5G ED VR AF-S. The main planned directions for shooting: everyday scenes, street photography, portraits, mid-range sports. Lenses with focal 17-50 are not very suitable for my conditions. The DX equivalent of these two lenses in question just covers the need.
    In Nikon, 24-85 was very confused by image distortion. On Tamron they are less unpleasant.

    I want to add my little review about this lens. I do not pretend to an expert opinion, rather, this is an amateur's opinion.
    I bought the lens by reading this and other reviews, where the authors are more likely to call the lens work good rather than satisfactory. Recently I switched to FF and NIKON D750, on which I tested the lens. After the store for the test, I shot a Christmas tree with toys and lights. Of the first 30 frames, not one was in focus! I tested primarily on aperture 2.8, for which this lens wanted. He continued testing on the street and indoors, in daylight and at home: portraits, still lifes, landscape, details, different angles, but 2.8. Out of about 100 frames, there were about 10 in focus! And then I think this is more an error and a case.
    At a wide angle, the picture often seems sharp, but at other than 100% sharpness does not even smell. I did not expect a fix from the zoom razor sharpness, but not to the same degree. At 4-5 aperture, the result is better, but overall the picture looks kind of cheap. As on the famous kit 18-55 nikon for crops. Sorry, but we're talking about a fast full frame lens ?! The detail is bad, the picture is soapy, the colors are very, very average. Then I spent the whole day dancing with targets and a ruler to correct the lens, but I could not achieve a stable result. At different angles, the focus continued to “walk”. And to the point of absurdity: at the same angle with the same correction, the focus is that is, then no. Before that, I used NIKON 16-85VR 3.5-5.5 on the crop, which left the most pleasant impressions, the pictures from it turned out much better and there was always a field for framing, which this lens simply cannot offer! But one of the meanings of a full frame is the ability to crop without losing detail, right? ))
    I understand that no one has canceled the problem of crooked hands and my experience is insignificant in comparison with the professionalism of Arkady, but I could not cope with this lens. By the way, sometimes it seems that Arkady likes all the lenses on the tests, because I have not read any negative ratings and crushing reviews here :-)
    TOTAL IMHO: Perhaps a pro who is able to evaluate the frame instantly and has a scent to quickly fix the situation will be able to successfully work with this lens, but a beginner with him is definitely not on the way! To avoid accusations of promoting NIKON products, I note that I returned this lens to the store and took the TAMRON 24-70 VR G2, a review of which I did not find here. Yes, it costs 3 (horror) times more expensive than the subject, but their work is incomparable. It is just earth and sky! Beginners are advised to think many, many times before buying this lens!
