Review MC Granite-11N F4,5 80-200mm

Review MC Granite-11N F4,5 80-200mm

There are several lens modifications in which the devil will break his leg. The most common:

  1. MS Granite 11Н 4,5 / 80-200, then the lens began to be called ZOOM ARSAT H  1: 4.5 80-200mm. Although the names are different, it is one and the same lens.
  2. Granite 11Н 4,5 / 80-200, version of the lens with N mount (similar to Nikon mount), but without multi-enlightenment. The name can be found in Latin letters as Granit-11N 4,5 / 80-200
  3. MS Granite 11М 4,5 / 80-200, then the lens began to be called ZOOM ARSAT M 1: 4.5 80-200mm. Although the names are different, it's the same lens.
  4. Granite 11М 4,5 / 80-200, lens version for M42 thread without multi-enlightenment
  5. Granite 11-Automatic 4,5 / 80-200 for cameras Kiev-10 and Kiev-15.
  6. Granite-11 4,5 / 80-200 is the earliest version (shown in the gallery below). It has no multi-coating, it is designed for M42 threads. Perhaps a simple Granite-11 was also under the "N" mount.
  7. Granite 11А 4,5 / 80-200 is a rather rare specimen. Had MDF 2 meters, versus 1.2 meters in other modifications.

To summarize, there are basic modifications for the M42 thread and the H bayonet. The threaded ones are designated as "M", and the bayonet ones as "H". The confusion is added by the fact that after the collapse of the USSR, the Arsenal plant began to call the lenses "Arsat". Because, ZOOM ARSAT 80-200 and Granite 11 80-200 are the same lens with different names. And also, there were export options with the name Granit-11N in Latin.

This review presents exactly ZOOM ARSAT H 1: 4.5 80-200mm. This is the same lens as MS Granite 11Н 4,5 / 80-200. I already have a lens review ZOOM ARSAT M 1: 4.5 80-200mm, all the main points when working with the lens are painted there. Here I just describe the nuances of the H version.

I will use the old name MC Granit-11N. The lens attracts with the ability to mount on modern Nikon cameras without adapters. MC Granit-11N has the same mount (mount to the camera) as the native Nikon lenses with F mount. MC Granit-11N is also AI-S lens for Nikon. I just took the MC Granite-11N and installed it on my camera. How to use old lenses on modern Nikon cameras can be found in the section Soviet optics. For use on Nikon cameras, I recommend the following lens versions: MS Granite 11Н 4.5 / 80-200, ZOOM ARSAT H  1:4.5 80-200mm, Гранит-11Н 4.5 / 80-200 they will allow you to get the ability to focus on infinity on Nikon cameras and do not require any adapters.

Lens Granit-11 is the most popular Soviet telephoto zoom lens. It is very easy to find, the Internet is literally teeming with offers for sale. For me personally, ZOOM ARSAT M 1: 4.5 80-200mm was the first Soviet lens, I did not have infinity on my camera Nikon D90because I sold it.

Lens Features:

  • Smooth focusing, focus ring travel: approximately 300 degrees. When focusing from infinity to MDF 1.2 meters, the lens changes its length by 3 centimeters. The focus ring is comfortable, rubberized.
  • Internal zoom. When zooming, the lens does not change its size. When zooming, focus is lost.
  • The diameter of the front filter is 58mm. Lenses have multi-enlightenment. When focusing, the front lens rotates.
  • Aperture constant at all focal lengths
  • Sharpness floats at different focal lengths
  • The weight of the lens allows you to easily take off.

All photos without processing. Reduced size, added data from EXIF.

Image quality:

My first copy ZOOM ARSAT M 1: 4.5 80-200mm showed not very good image quality. But an instance from this review ZOOM ARSAT H 1: 4.5 80-200mm much better pleased with the quality. On F4.5 there is light software, but within normal limits. Very little distortion, the lack of vignetting on the crop and the huge focal length make it possible to get excellent portraits. HA and poor sharpness are the main disadvantages of the lens.

Conclusions:

MC GRANIT-11N - a good telezoom lens. There is a huge variation in quality due to long-term production and a number of lens modifications. If you get a good copy in your hands, then the image quality will please.

I bought a lens (MC granite) in a shop in the city center for 280 litas (3400 rubles) for my Nikon D5100 - I shoot a video and here it is GREAT because of its constant aperture ratio and smooth focusing. I also help my beloved during photo sessions - the sharpness of Granite in the center is higher than that of Helios 81n, but there is soap on the edges ...

Arkady, through which adapter would it be better to use the Granite-11 4,5 / 80-200 (threaded) with the Nikon d5100?

Hello Arkady, give advice. There is a choice between ARSAT H 4,5 / 80-200 and Tamron 80-210 F3.8. I rely on your choice, but I myself am more inclined to Tamron.

  • HELMET

Good day to all. I want to thank you so much Arkady for your patience with people just starting their journey into the world of photography. And all the best to you.

  • Asya

Good day! please tell me, as a beginner amateur photographer, what is better to buy from telephoto Jupiter 21m, Tair 3 or Arsat 11? how can I shoot with a slow shutter speed without a tripod and where will the bokeh in the portraits be prettier? or is it better not to bother and buy a modern lens of a new generation, like Nikon 70-300 f 4-5,6?

  • anonym

They offer Granite 11 without any letters. It says in his passport that you can change the shank from the kit. Tell me, this means that you can put KP-A / N

    • anonym

NO ! There is absolutely no place for KP-A / N. But everything is written in the passport correctly. The lens comes with interchangeable shanks for three systems at once: Kiev - 10, Kiev-17 (Nikon), M 42. Changing the shank consists in unscrewing three screws from the end of the lens and installing any shank from the kit for YOUR SYSTEM! (They unscrewed three screws. They removed the unnecessary tail. Put the desired tail. Tightened three screws. VOIL! :-)) Granit-11 lenses have nothing to do with the “A” mount.

    • Arkady Shapoval

Most likely, but then it should be called Granite-11A.

  • straship

I can't change the aperture on Granite 11H, nikon d90 - the aperture ring becomes only in position 4,5 when the lens is installed and does not rotate anymore

  • Jura ^ __ ^

May such an object. The traditional “fog” on a sleepy day gives it a radian feel (oily garno in b / w). Already, even stronger, XA and distortion, especially in new finishes. Ass is povna. Maybe I just got one of the greedy versions of the 82nd rock =) I want to pick up the latest angles and behavior with light (“Croc, right-handed, crock-right-handed”) and when I have a lot of fire, take a garnish. Naylіpshe go for black-bіloї zyomka. The effect of photographs of babus and didus is easily manifested (quietly, behind the great tree frames). But for the big color zoom-snapshots, they are still better than the Japanese, etc.

  • Adrey

I read your review about this lens and I have a desire to buy it myself. I am a beginner photographer, I shoot more for myself and for my family. Using the kit (18-55), after 5 months, I clearly see that a stronger zoom is needed. I shoot in nature and at home. If possible, in a few phrases, explain: how will the aperture control from the camera work, how will the exposure metering work? Or just your hands and head in M mode.

  • Alexander

    Good day, dear Arkady.
    1. - many thanks for this resource, review articles….
Recently I became the proud owner of ARSAT 80-200 ... Your article fully describes its main advantages and disadvantages ...
    a) The lens for portraits is not bad and daytime refinements in nature
    b) nevertheless, you have to close the aperture (so that you “overlook” with focus as little as possible), while shortening the shutter speed and raising the ISO ... without a tripod this is the only way ... even a small shake makes a blur ...
    c) I liked the fact that the camera “prompts” about focusing
    d) the lens is sharp enough (if you didn’t make a mistake with focusing and prevent grease)
    e) the article says that when zooming, focusing is lost ... this is not entirely true ... it depends on the aperture at which we shoot (and therefore on the depth of field) I have, during the test, on aperture 16 from 80mm to 200mm focusing on sharpness did not get lost
______ and now the main thing is the question: do you know where to find the depth of field plate for this lens? Google did not help (((
    Thank you) Regards.

  • Alexey

    Arkady, good day!
    I am now choosing one of two lenses - Granit 11M 80-200 / 4.5 and Vivitar MC 80-200 mm f / 4.5
Granite has a couple of advantages - more weight (for shooting without a tripod) and thread diameter for filters (no need to spend extra money); and Vivitar can shoot macro
    interested in your opinion

  • B.R.P.

bought in 2000 in the store of the Arsenal plant was all wobbling, rattling and rattling the glass like an old Soviet sideboard)

  • Sergei

Please tell me, is it suitable for Nikon d40x or 5100?

  • anonym

Do not tell me and Kenon D60, this lens is suitable?

  • Alexander

Hello ! Again I ask for your advice. Once there was a choice between Zeiss 135 fix and Jupiter and I, on your advice, bought Jupiter 37 (chipped). Thanks for the advice - everything suits, friends and family really like the pictures from it;) And now I want "Play" with this Arsat with a "Nikon" bayonet. I have Nikon Crop d3000 which I will change to d5200 in the near future. Question: Does it make sense to take it (they offer a completely new one, in a package) with the prospect of using it on the d5200 (also a crop)?

    • Amatich

Take it and do not hesitate!

      • Alexander

Took it !!!! Thing !!! Manufactured in 11.2000, absolutely new in the factory "Soviet" packaging. On fotik became like a native! The first pictures are pleasing :))) I think I also stick a chip on it, but I doubt whether it is possible to sculpt a dandelion on a zoom lens (I asked the seller on Slando - I'm waiting for an answer. Thank you Amatic for your attention!

        • Alexander

dandelion, somehow, you still have a zoom or fix)) dandelion just helps in metering) and to focus - with and without a dandelion, and on a carcass with a screwdriver and without it - only handles) * though without a dandelion it will help a little " green dot, and with a dandelion, a squeak from the device can also be added to it)
          something like this)

  • Novel

please tell me ... will this lens go to the Nikon D3000 ??.

    • Arkady Shapoval

Yes, it does. The camera will only work in M mode.

  • Novel

Thank you very much) Is it manual in M mode?
I just bought a current camera down to the end of what and how.

  • Novel

And does the focus on infinity wake you up?

    • Arkady Shapoval

      Yes, it will.

  • Novel

    Thank you so much.

  • Valentine

Good evening. I have the wrong food, tell me if it’s a weasel, I can use the flash drive from the Nikon D3000 camera, as it failed at the window between the pink micro sd, and the camera’s stick, don’t mess around with the photo I can see it, I don’t know how to robiti (((

  • Nikita

    Hello Arkady!
The focus ring on this lens runs smoothly.
But should the zoom ring on such lenses go so “dry” (not as smoothly as the focusing one)? It's just that I only used Soviet fixes before

  • Vladimir

The banal question is whether the weight of the lens will harm the camera (Nikon d3000)?
I took it, because good people banged my Nikonovsky 55-200 from a meter and a half, and the repair costs more than a new lens, so I decided to buy Granite, which I was very pleased with)

    • Arkady Shapoval

      No harm :)
