Review MC Granite-11N F4,5 80-200mm

Review MC Granite-11N F4,5 80-200mm

There are several lens modifications in which the devil will break his leg. The most common:

  1. MS Granite 11Н 4,5 / 80-200, then the lens began to be called ZOOM ARSAT H  1: 4.5 80-200mm. Although the names are different, it is one and the same lens.
  2. Granite 11Н 4,5 / 80-200, version of the lens with N mount (similar to Nikon mount), but without multi-enlightenment. The name can be found in Latin letters as Granit-11N 4,5 / 80-200
  3. MS Granite 11М 4,5 / 80-200, then the lens began to be called ZOOM ARSAT M 1: 4.5 80-200mm. Although the names are different, it's the same lens.
  4. Granite 11М 4,5 / 80-200, lens version for M42 thread without multi-enlightenment
  5. Granite 11-Automatic 4,5 / 80-200 for cameras Kiev-10 and Kiev-15.
  6. Granite-11 4,5 / 80-200 is the earliest version (shown in the gallery below). It has no multi-coating, it is designed for M42 threads. Perhaps a simple Granite-11 was also under the "N" mount.
  7. Granite 11А 4,5 / 80-200 is a rather rare specimen. Had MDF 2 meters, versus 1.2 meters in other modifications.

To summarize, there are basic modifications for the M42 thread and the H bayonet. The threaded ones are designated as "M", and the bayonet ones as "H". The confusion is added by the fact that after the collapse of the USSR, the Arsenal plant began to call the lenses "Arsat". Because, ZOOM ARSAT 80-200 and Granite 11 80-200 are the same lens with different names. And also, there were export options with the name Granit-11N in Latin.

This review presents exactly ZOOM ARSAT H 1: 4.5 80-200mm. This is the same lens as MS Granite 11Н 4,5 / 80-200. I already have a lens review ZOOM ARSAT M 1: 4.5 80-200mm, all the main points when working with the lens are painted there. Here I just describe the nuances of the H version.

I will use the old name MC Granit-11N. The lens attracts with the ability to mount on modern Nikon cameras without adapters. MC Granit-11N has the same mount (mount to the camera) as the native Nikon lenses with F mount. MC Granit-11N is also AI-S lens for Nikon. I just took the MC Granite-11N and installed it on my camera. How to use old lenses on modern Nikon cameras can be found in the section Soviet optics. For use on Nikon cameras, I recommend the following lens versions: MS Granite 11Н 4.5 / 80-200, ZOOM ARSAT H  1:4.5 80-200mm, Гранит-11Н 4.5 / 80-200 they will allow you to get the ability to focus on infinity on Nikon cameras and do not require any adapters.

Lens Granit-11 is the most popular Soviet telephoto zoom lens. It is very easy to find, the Internet is literally teeming with offers for sale. For me personally, ZOOM ARSAT M 1: 4.5 80-200mm was the first Soviet lens, I did not have infinity on my camera Nikon D90because I sold it.

Lens Features:

  • Smooth focusing, focus ring travel: approximately 300 degrees. When focusing from infinity to MDF 1.2 meters, the lens changes its length by 3 centimeters. The focus ring is comfortable, rubberized.
  • Internal zoom. When zooming, the lens does not change its size. When zooming, focus is lost.
  • The diameter of the front filter is 58mm. Lenses have multi-enlightenment. When focusing, the front lens rotates.
  • Aperture constant at all focal lengths
  • Sharpness floats at different focal lengths
  • The weight of the lens allows you to easily take off.

All photos without processing. Reduced size, added data from EXIF.

Image quality:

My first copy ZOOM ARSAT M 1: 4.5 80-200mm showed not very good image quality. But an instance from this review ZOOM ARSAT H 1: 4.5 80-200mm much better pleased with the quality. On F4.5 there is light software, but within normal limits. Very little distortion, the lack of vignetting on the crop and the huge focal length make it possible to get excellent portraits. HA and poor sharpness are the main disadvantages of the lens.

Sharpness MS Granite-11. No processing. Crop quality 100 percent

Conclusions:

MC GRANIT-11N - a good telezoom lens. There is a huge variation in quality due to long-term production and a number of lens modifications. If you get a good copy in your hands, then the image quality will please.

  • Smetanka

Taki yes !!! SPRING in Kiev !!! Gorgeous photos)))

  • Serqey

On some photos for f4,5 aperture, sharpness is good - on a photo with a bird and a photo where there is a STOP sign, and if you shoot with a f 5,6 aperture, is sharpness better?

    • Arkady Shapoval

If you cover up, the sharpness is only slightly improved. Therefore, I always shoot at 4.5

I bought myself the Granite 11n on nikond80, all day I enjoyed the vivid pictures and new opportunities, until it got dark and it didn't come to a flash. Flare refuses to work with this lens because of its ms? Or is it something I don’t know yet (don’t understand?) I would be grateful for the answer.

    • Arkady Shapoval

Read about working with flash in the Soviet optics section. The flash needs to switch to manual mode.

  • Sergei

    Thank you!

  • Eugene White

Already almost acquired the option MS Granit-11M 4,5 / 80-200. Reviews and opinions on inconsistency are consistent with many different versions of Granite. However, examples of photographs even of those who scold glass in all lenses are quite impressive in quality (there probably people compared no less than with top-end optics such as Kenonovskie L-ek).

I think that for 2 thousand it is at least a good exhibit, but otherwise it is a good everyday lens. And it's just intersny to compare tasty with cold - for comparison, there is also a Japanese zoom with the same focal and hole, Jupiter-21M and Jupiter-36B (yeah, the same one - 3,5 / 250)

  • Maksim

Please tell me whether to caress yaku blond before you can buy it. Bo know, what a trima lateral light. Dyakuyu

    • Arkady Shapoval

Any that you can screw on it.

      • Maksim

Well, won’t you win any money?

        • Arkady Shapoval

For crop, to get a vignette, you need a very long hood.

  • Maksim

    Dujaku dyakoy :)

  • pavl123

please tell me ... will this lens go to Nikon D3100 ?? .. or something needs to be redone? ..

    • Arkady Shapoval

Suitable as a native, for which it is written in the review.

  • Masha

I like the photo from him)))
but it turns out only for landscape and macro?
because because of the distance the portrait will be difficult to shoot?

    • Arkady Shapoval

No, he has almost classic distances for a portrait. It is not for macro and not for landscape.

  • Sasha

In my opinion, if you do not have a focusing screen with wedges,
it makes no sense to buy a TV / portrait without autofocus.
no matter how wonderful (optically) he is.
because of errors in the focus (human factor) there will be too much marriage.
all manufacturers have cheap 70-300 F3.5-5.6 - I think they are much better.

    • Arkady Shapoval

70-300 and make mistakes with autofocus, they are afraid of a wolf - do not go into the forest.

      • Jura ^ __ ^

Vernyak. Since Sasha thinks so, then it’s not just

  • Michael

    When comparing Zoom Arsat H 4,5 / 80-200mm, Nikon 200mm f4 nikkor-Q and Nikon 18-200mm F / 3.5-5.6 II VR Nikkor AF-S DX ED G
which lens to choose? Their cost does not count! Purely technically (shooting speed, performance, workmanship, optics) and image quality.

    • Arkady Shapoval

Because of the stabilizer, 18-200 is preferable.

      • Michael

Thank you, but I find it annoying to work with the Nikon 18-200mm F / 3.5-5.6 II VR Nikkor AF-S DX ED G. I can't accept that he decides everything for me. For example, in “M” mode, the zoom will automatically change the aperture setting (D3000).
And he doesn't fit as a portraitist at all. The picture seems to be sharp, but not sincere. For example, I tried to shoot with Jupiter-9 from “4” all the pores on the face, all the wrinkles are very clearly visible. You can take pictures, mood, pictures, images. That's about the other two models (indicated by me), many speak of as possible portraiture. Is it so? Can I get a soulful portrait on them? Thanks in advance.

        • Arkady Shapoval

Yes, Jupiter-9 is a portrait lens.

          • alexey

And ka granite, in comparison with Nikon 18-105, is better or worse, the price at the flea market is about the same.

  • Andrii

“6. Granit-11 4,5 / 80-200 is the earliest version. It has no multi-coating, it is designed for M42 threads. Perhaps it was just that Granit-11 was also under the "N" mount. "

having gotten to such an objec- tive, it’s just Granit 11, 1981 rock Vipusku, without MS, without mark H, protez with a Nikon mount =)
I don’t know why, aly the bayonet mount itself was incorrectly rotated, I’ve turned it on 180 degrees, and then the bullet scale was turned on to the camera =) I’ve turned on the corridor until I’m gone, I’m not much longer than I’ve said, I’ve turned on the bolt =)

"The focusing ring is comfortable, rubberized"

most of the time, then in one instance I’ve got all of the metal, but anyway, such an oak guma =))) tomorrow I will write exactly =)) at the same time, I’ll test the image =)

    Bulbik

    • Andrii

the diaphragm is manual, there is no such a pump =)

  • Michael

First of all, thank you for your great work.
I understand that you have already gotten amateurs with their questions, but I can not help but take the moment.
I have a Nikon D3100 + kit 18 * 55 VR. I re-read a lot of information about lenses, and all the same I can not decide: (the budget is very small)
    1. I photograph mostly my wife and child at home - I don’t know which lens is better to take: MC Helios-81H or Nikon Nikkor AF-S 35mm f / 1.8G DX.
    2.in the kindergarten of the child - Granit-11N or Nikon AF-S 55-200mm f / 4.0-5.6 IF-ED DX VR
    3. And of course on the street - maybe in the second point or something else I don't know.
I think I won’t get carried away with landscapes, but if a nice picture hits, then maybe I won’t resist.
The question is accordingly standard: help the teapot decide.
I understand that branded ones have autofocus and it’s easier for a beginner, but many say that autofocus is not always needed and not always accurate, and if you learn a little from the manual, you can learn to take good pictures. therefore I ask for advice between Soviet optics and proprietary.
    Sorry if something went wrong.

    • Michael

      PS
In the kindergarten, I want to zoom because I will only take pictures of the child’s performances at distances from 5 to 20 m. Therefore, I’m not sure if the fix is suitable here (it seems to me not enough for standard 18-55)

      • Arkady Shapoval

In kindergarten, both granite and 55-200 will be darkish, either high ISO or flash.

    • Arkady Shapoval

      They wrote everything correctly.
      1. Better 35tka - there is autofocus and a normal viewing angle, and it is sharp to the point of disgrace. With Helios, you will also have to measure the exposure by eye, people do not like it when 3-4 test shots are taken on them.
      2. Better 55-200 because of the stabilizer and focus. It’s difficult to focus manually at 200mm.

  • Michael

or can take Jupiter-37A - for the weight of these needs
Well, MS Helios-81N in the delivery

and to all this a good flash.

    • Arkady Shapoval

Once again, I note that without a dandelion with these lenses there will be a full manual, and with a flash it is quite difficult.

  • Michael

And if you put Dandelion on Soviet cameras and accordingly torment yourself and understand the essence of Soviet technology, does it make sense to take this Soviet technology, or is it better not to bother and save money on the branded above lenses (35mm 1.8g + 55-200 vr + kit 18- 55vr (already available)) which should be enough for all occasions. I think that with 35mm you can wait, but it’s better to work out for 18-55 cp with an external flash and decide if this fix is needed.
And of course, for all this (regardless of lens choice), take the SB-600 (used since they are no longer available) or the SB-700. Well, if not money for a branded flash, then take for example the Nissin Di 622 Mark II.
If you are looking for a 35mm wide increase, you need to move about 2 m away, and what would be closer, which lens is needed?

    • Arkady Shapoval

      Better native lenses.
If closer than two meters - then the focal point should be less than 35mm, any lens will fit.
      I recommend native flash.

      • Michael

Thank you very much. I thought so, but I needed a professional opinion.

        • Arkady

          It's my pleasure

        • Michael

There is a lot of information on the Internet, and it is normally impossible to determine. there is no obvious opportunity to try out all the equipment, which is why people like me strain you. Thanks again. I will save money for native equipment.

  • Michael

Another question in the continuation of the last conversation.
And if, instead of 55-200, you take Nikkor 900-70mm f / 300-4G AF for 5.6 UAH
Not considering the lack of a stabilizer, will it be problematic to work with it, how will it work with the SB-700 flash.
300 mm I doubt that I will shoot.

  • Arkady Shapoval

The D3100 will not have autofocus, it is an AF lens, not an AF-S.

    • Michael

I understand that the focus must be brought manually, as a result of which the shooting will be delayed, but I am interested in the quality of the images and work with an external flash. and how hard it is to catch the focus manually at 70-300.
if you take 55-200 for 1380 UAH. (new) and 70-300 for 900 UAH. (used) which is better and more profitable?

      • Arkady Shapoval

It’s difficult to catch the focus on the body, the image quality of 70-300 is average (in my opinion). Better 55-200 and do not fool yourself, if you want a manual for creative shooting, then you need to look at more fast-moving options. With a flash, both 55-200 and 70-300 will work fine.

        • Michael

          Clear. Sorry for the trouble.

  • Dmitro

and what will be better precisely as a TV set:
    1. Granite 11 n;
    2. Jupiter 37a (135mm)
    3. your option?
    Thank you.

    • Arkady Shapoval

As my option, I can offer some sort of super expensive option, but the Jupiter-37A is a very good lens for the money.

  • Dmitro

Granite attracts focal points ... I like to photograph squirrels. And the buzzer - in terms of decreasing running around - is also a plus ... But what about the quality?
    Is Jupiter far ahead?

    • Arkady Shapoval

It is difficult for me to give a qualitative assessment of how much Granite leaves from Jupiter, but the difference is noticeable.

  • Razor

While training with whale Nikkor 55-200.
They suggest taking for a while the MS Granit-11N 4,5 / 80-200 with a tripod. Does it make sense or the difference will not be noticeable?
The lack of autofocus is not scary.

    • Arkady Shapoval

Take it for a while, you will know for sure whether the difference is huge. I would not mess with Granite, if there is 55-200

      • Razor

I looked, did not fit, turned out to be with a threaded mount M42. :(

  • Glory

There is Granite-11 1978, m-42, although the condition is not very good, there are signs of disassembly. I’m shooting on a canon. The quality is not happy. The sharpness is only in the center of norms., At the edges it’s weak even at a minimum focus of 80 mm. The colors are dark, the contrast is weak. Perhaps the reason is that this is the very first model, without multilayer enlightenment. You correctly wrote that it is not for landscapes. In my opinion, it is suitable for shooting distant objects (bird, plane, etc.), because who feel sorry for the money for branded optics (this applies to this modification, maybe others are better judging by your pictures). It is better to take a canon of 75-300 mm., about as long as there is no desire to spend money and buy this before even at the zenith.

  • Garrick_K

I have one on my farm. I bought it right in the shop of the Arsenal plant
hryvnia so for 400. It was a long time ago. About four years ago. Heavy, iron ...
I bought it only out of a desire to try telephoto on crop in work.
After the purchase, the 70-300VR simply took it out of sight.
Now he “walks” through the hands of his friends - pusshshshai learn.
By the way: I like the other Arsat 100 / 2.8 lens very much on the new camera.

  • Alexander

Please tell me about this lens with Nikon d 90 ... is it worth buying a lens?

    • Arkady Shapoval

The review describes its properties, disadvantages, etc., to buy or not to buy - it is up to you to decide.

  • Valery

I have a Nikon D3100, please tell me whether I need to buy a tripod ring for this lens (even the weight is 1.5kg) or will the camera stand like that? (I shot from this lens I really liked the picture just super!)
