MC Soligor Wide-Auto 1: 2.8 F = 28mm It was produced on almost all well-known popular film camera systems. On my copy is indicated the number No. 9990861, the lens is in perfect condition and is made for Nikon mount (bayonet version).
This review presents the lens option. MC Soligor 2.8 / 28 for a Nikon system with a native Nikon F mount, AI-S type. This means that aperture control is available in semi-automatic mode, and the camera “understands” which aperture value is set. Such a lens is no different from modern ones, except for the lack of automatic focus and aperture control not through the camera, but through the aperture ring. Exposure metering will work only on the older model range of Nikon CZK: D1, D2, D3, D4, D200, D300, D700, D800, D7000. On younger cameras, the lens can only be used in manual control mode M. A green dot in the corner of the viewfinder will inform you about accurate focusing. When used with Live View, there will be no focus problems at all.
If there is a need for automation on younger cameras, then Dandelion Lushnikova for Nikon it can help a lot in this - exposure metering and pseudo-auto-focus mode will appear.
Briefly about MC Soligor 2.8 / 28:
1. MC Soligor Wide-Auto 1: 2.8 F = 28mm Is a wide-angle manual lens. Focusing is manual only. The minimum focusing distance is only 30cm, the lens indicates that the maximum image magnification with MDF is 1: 6. The focusing ring rotates only 45 degrees, which is not a problem for a wide-angle lens. Sighting is nice and easy. About half of the lens is reserved for the focusing ring. Focusing distance is indicated in meters and feet, after 2 meters infinity begins. When focusing at the lens, the trunk extends to the floor of the samtimeter forward, the front group of lenses does not rotate and makes it possible to use various filters. When focusing, all lenses in the helicoid move. MC Soligor Wide-Auto 1: 2.8 F = 28mm - has nothing unusual in the focusing method, everything happens like most other manual old prime lenses.
2. The maximum aperture of F2.8 turns this lens into a fast aperture. It is very difficult to make a good wide-angle lens, because, for example, the brand-new 28mm F1.4 wide-angle lenses are worth a fortune. With such aperture no problem shoot in poor light... The diaphragm has only 6 blades and even those are not rounded. In the out-of-focus area, you can get “nuts”. It is not customary to talk about bokeh for wide-angle lenses, but at F2.8 in my specimen, the discs in the out-of-focus area have an irregular shape. The depth of field scale is indicated for F5.6, F11, F22.
3. On DX cameras, this wide angle lens will turn into a normal lens with EGF 42mm. More details in the article about crop factor. In general, it is difficult to find a good old fast aperture lens on DX cameras and on other cameras of other manufacturers with a sprinkled matrix. If you are interested in a wide angle on a cropped matrix for little money, then look in the direction of Samyang 14mm f / 2.8 IF ED UMC Aspherical, which, perhaps, will delight you in a full frame. Personally, I use autofocus zoom for a wide angle on crop. Tamron 17-50mm F2.8... If you are looking for a wide-angle to replace your whale lens among old non-autofocus optics, then heed my advice - whale or superzoom like 18-55, 18-70, 18-105, 16-85, 18-135, 18-200 is the best shirik for a crop. Well, if you really want a wide-angle lens, then look towards MC Mir-73N and MC Mir-47.
4. The lens has multi-enlightenment. Lens assembly is good... The body is metal, the focuser ring is rubberized. I met somewhere that the lenses of this lens can be made of plastic - this is a delusion, since at that time there were no technologies that would allow you to combine plastic with glass. And the weight of the lens says just another thing.
5. The image quality does not stand out anything special. At F2.8 and focusing at infinity, it is difficult to achieve good sharpness, with a shorter focusing distance, the sharpness at F2.8 is normal, slightly soft. When you close the aperture to F8, sharpness increases dramatically, after F11, diffraction takes over and sharpness falls. Excellent sharpness on F2.8 lens can not boast. Image contrast also increases with aperture closing. The contrast is good. Color rendering is neutral. Most importantly, the distortion on my DX camera is very small for the wide-angle. This one MC Soligor Wide-Auto 1: 2.8 F = 28mm the same distortion as the longer Nikon 35mm F1.8G. The lens, albeit with MS, but still catches hares in the counter-openwork and side light. Vignetting on the cropped matrix disappears at F4.0, at F2.8 it is barely noticeable.
For publicity: If you are interested in this lens, you can purchase it by contacting the contacts in the manual optics section.
Sample photos on MC Soligor Wide-Auto 1: 2.8 F = 28mm.
All photos were taken on camera. Nikon D200, without processing, conversion from RAW to JPEG with 80% quality, downsizing to 1600 * 1200 and imprinting data from EXIF module snapshot.
From personal impressions PENTACON auto 2.8 / 29 MC seemed to me a whole lot more interesting. IN MC Soligor Wide-Auto 1: 2.8 F = 28mm I liked the usability, compactness. I did not like the viewing angle on the crop.

Conclusions:
MC Soligor Wide-Auto 1: 2.8 F = 28mm It will be interesting to people using full-frame cameras. The lens gives a normal picture, nothing special.

The whale is not always better than the manual 28 and 35 mm on the crop, it does not have 2.8 at 28 mm (4+) and even less at 35, and there is no convenient manual focus, which is also important, especially close. In the forest for mushrooms, it is meaningless, like barbecue.
