In short

SMC PENTAX-M 1:1.4 50mm Asahi OPT. CO., Japan - a good classic manual high-aperture fifty kopeck piece from a bygone era. There is a whole family of such lenses, in which there are approximately 8-9 main models.

Nowadays SMC PENTAX-M 1:1.4 50mm Asahi OPT. CO., Japan is interesting for the 'legendary pattern' common to all similar Takumar/Pentax 50/1.4 lenses, compact size and high aperture.

All lenses of this family (except for the first and the last) use the same optical scheme of 7 elements in 6 groups (classic planar scheme [Planar]). The first was'Planar killer'and used an advanced scheme for those times 8/6 (difference between 7/6 and 8/6), and last - super-modern circuit 15/9!.

This SMC PENTAX-M 1:1.4 50mm Asahi OPT. CO., Japan refers to the 'PENTAX-M' with Pentax K mount.

In parallel with the '50 / 1.4' line, the Pentax / Takumar lens lines of the 50 / 1.7, 50 / 1.8, 50 / 2, 55 / 1.8, 55 / 1.9, 55 / 2, 55 / 2.2, 58 / 2, 58 / 2.4 classes developed and 50/1.2.

It's important: This lens does not suffer from lens coating degradation. For example older versions like Super-Multi-Coated TAKUMAR 1: 1.4 / 50 ASAHI OPT. CO., JAPANsuffered from severe degradation of enlightenment.

Please tell me if the focus indication lamp lights up when using SMC Pentax-M 1: 1.7 50 mm on the Pentax K10D

  • Goalkeeper

I believe you will be happy. Using MF lenses makes me feel more involved in a result. Let me know how it goes with Pentax.

  • Pavlo

    I want to try out such a Pentax-M 1: 1,7 50mm Asahi lens on the Nikon d700.
Is such a crossroads safer without interruption and is it possible to know the macro?

Which is better (from the point of view of the picture) to take Super-Takumar 50 / 1.4 Pentax 50 / 1.4?
    Thank you!

    • Carl Zeiss

Better to take Pentax of course! And even better than him, only the "K" series.

Hello, I've been trying to find a lens for portrait and art photography for a week now, the Fujifilm X-T10 camera with a whale lens.
He is obsessed with sharpness and bokeh, before that he photographed on kenon with Soviet lenses such as Helios 44m, Industar 61ls, Jupiter 37a. Please advise something that is not expensive $ 50-150, which ideally combines sharpness on an open hole, on infinity, and bokeh. I looked closely at the Japanese, but honestly I was already confused. I would be grateful for a couple of three standing lenses in response.
    Thank you

By the way, the adapter is currently on the m42

      • anonym

        Olympus OM-System Zuiko Auto-S 50mm f / 1.8 or 85 2. but it is more expensive.

    • Yarkiya

I understand that the answer is not the topic, but given your requests, you needed a Nikon 5300 with a Nikon AF-S 50mm 1: 1.8G

      • zengarden

Almost any manual lens can be mounted on a mirrorless mirror, unlike Nikon.
In Fuji, of course, native glass is better, but their price ...

        > Please advise something not expensive $ 50-150, in which the sharpness on an open hole, to infinity, and bokeh were ideally combined.

You set mutually exclusive requirements :) use what you have so far and think what exactly you are missing - or sharpness in the open, or bokeh, or money.

    Good afternoon!
Recently I bought such a lens + Pentax ME Super camera as a gift. I wanted to put on the lens right away, but I just can’t remove the back cover from the lens. ((Tell me, please, this may not be the case, and do you need to perform some special manipulations, and not just unscrew it clockwise? Before with Pentax technology did not contact.

    • Carl Zeiss

Need to unscrew. Only not clockwise, but counterclockwise.

  • ZiNTeR

Arkady, hello. I read about your "misadventures" with the aperture: the fact is that modern Pentax cameras have a parameter: recognition of the aperture values from the lens ring. For manual optics, you just need to turn it on in the settings (by default it is turned off), and then the camera will “understand” the aperture.
By the way, Pentax is also unique in that it has a green button - it is made in essence for manual optics. By pressing it, the system calculates the desired parameters for shooting, and sets them in the camera. Thus, through the green button, manual shooting occurs almost at the speed of automatic mode :)

    • Alexander

Dear ZiNTeR, thank you very much for the information about the green button!) I bought a PentaxK200D with a manual 50mmf2 lens a few months ago and constantly first turned on the aperture priority, “caught” the exposure, switched to manual and lengthened the shutter speed the required number of stops. Thanks to you, everything has been simplified many times!))))

For some reason, everyone has forgotten the topic of radioactivity in old Japanese optics. In this review, she is also ignored. Why, in my opinion, do not forget about this? I remembered how once all day I wore a Konica Hexanon AR 57mm F1.2 lens (it draws great, I took it from the seller for testing). Towards evening I noticed that I constantly scratched my leg in the same place (as I later realized, this lens was in the bag opposite). Guessed to measure his radiation background. It amounted to more than 600 microroentgen per hour (norm 20). The lens was returned to the seller.
Why am I writing about it here. As I understand it, the SMC Pentax-M is the reincarnation of Super-tumors that are lit up as the 4th unit of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.

    • Onotole

      Revelations of a young radiophobe)))
I'll tell you a little secret - radiation does not itch)))) Moreover, such microscopic doses as 600 microroentgens))) Otherwise, during a flight in airplanes with their 200-300 microroentgens per hour, (and even not a background somewhere locally, near the foot, and absolutely everywhere permeates the entire fuselage and everyone who is in it) would make everyone disappear into the blood. Especially 10-11 hour transatlantic flights, passing at an elevated altitude up to 13000 meters)))
Probably, then they also drank iodine for 2 months to "remove the radiation"?

    • KalekseyG

))))))))) This is generally beyond description. Scabies from gamma radiation))))))))

  • anonym

troll in vain, on the street the norm is 15 microdistrict (usually), in rooms 20, 25 (a little more is possible), but 600 microdistrict is ten times more than the norm, radiation does not have a color of taste smell, but nevertheless a person can do something an unpleasant feeling, my father had a work colleague, asked for a dosimeter, at home to check it, he came running scared, the device went off scale, my father went to see what was going on, already on the doorstep, and in the apartment in general ... it turned out they bought shoes, and under the buckle, tape, a plate of size with a fingernail ... it turned out to be an isotope of cobalt, they lay well for 2-3 days, they had not yet been worn ... but the owner felt something unpleasant (this plate was naturally in the enterprise, for special storage) these were the 90s, then Yeltsin issued a decree (on the subject of radiation ), so my father was doing this, a helicopter flew over the city, a car with special equipment drove, spotted where what, then on foot ... he found a lot of things, including paint, tow, etc. now pretty much everything is cleaned up

    • Onotole

You read your text yourself - where are 600 microroentgens and where “the device has gone off scale even on the threshold”, is there a difference ??? At ultra-high radiation intensities, there may indeed be specific sensations, in particular, metal taste in the mouth, diarrhea, but this occurs at radiation levels that can quickly lead to lethal consequences.

  • anonym

Onotole, dear, I just brought a case ... but 600 md is still a lot

  • Mark

    Hey.
Tell me, I want to put SMC Pentax-K 50 1.4 or SMC Pentax-M 50 1.4 on Canon through an adapter.
Who tried? What kind of adapter do you need? such?

    • Arkady Shapoval

      Yes, such

  • Fedorov Andrey

please enlighten who knows whether such a lens is radioactive or not? and even want, and scary

    • Rodion

      No

    • Vitaly N

Take a dosimeter somewhere and measure for the sake of interest what is next to you: a stone corner, granite, crushed stone, marble ... You don’t wear it in panties, but a little fonite is all around. For example, the background of a coal-fired thermal power plant is higher than that of a nuclear power plant.

  • Fedorov Andrey

Enlighten, please, is there a fundamental difference between SMC Pentax-M 1.7 and SMC Pentax-M 1.4? will there be a gap between them in aperture? I want to know not to buy an extra lens? thanks in advance for your reply

    • R'RёS,R ° F "RёR№

Of course very late. Probably, but I will prompt. There is not much difference. Another thing is that 1.4 Pentax is a bit better in sharpness. However, I was sitting on the pentax for a long time and when I needed to shoot on slides indoors (it was a long time ago) I chose Olympus 1.4 of the latest versions. The Pentax 1.4AF follows him, and the Pentax vaunted Zeiss 1.4 then the rest. Now digital devices can shoot code even under a blanket, the criteria for aperture ratio only in the background blur and all. Here it is necessary to select. If on the crop, then some cheap staffers 50mm / 2.0 are quite suitable. What do they have a nice drawing and do not overpay for money.

  • Kateryna

hello ... help, I didn't know, and even got confused:) I have a Pentax 6 × 7 carcass, I want to buy a lens, but I still don't understand if SMC PENTAX 50mm F 1,4 is suitable ... ..without any letter marking .. this is what a bayonet ... K, M ... for the first time I come across the Pentax technique and I don't want to buy an unsuitable lens for the carcass ... :(

    • B. R. P.

Pentax 6 × 7? Film medium format camera? Then this lens is definitely not suitable for you. As a standard on this camera, non-autofocus 105mm 2,4 is used. And by the way, the camera is also not autofocus.
