Review of the Nikon D3100. View Nikon D3100 body

Nikon D3100 is a wonderful amateur DSLR camera. I am often asked what good and not expensive Nikon SLR camera I would recommend to buy - I almost always I recommend Nikon D3100. In this review you can find information only about Nikon D3100 Points - that is, only about the camera itself without a lens. Nikon D3100 usually comes with an inexpensive lens kit, such a kit is called a 'kit kit'. Nikon D3100 with lens Nikkor 18-55mm F3.5-5.6VR is the most common option. If the complexity of an SLR camera is scary - do not be afraid, a special explanatory GUIDE mode is built into the camera, which will tell and tell everything. If the whale lens is not satisfactory, then at the end of this review, I give some tips for choosing good and inexpensive lenses.

View of Nikon D3100 from different sides

Nikon D3100 has excellent featureswhich are wired into a very light and small camera body. It has everything you need, from a 14.2 MP matrix, to the ability to shoot video in Full HD quality 1920 × 1080.

Key Features of Nikon D3100

1. The first thing to remember is that APS-C a camera in which, in comparison with the classic 3 mm film, the matrix is reduced. The matrix area of this baby is 5 times smaller than that of professional giants such as Nikon D800 or Nikon D3s. And at the same time, the area of the matrix (matrix value) same as for more advanced cameras Nikon D7100, D300s, D7000 и D5200... The matrix is the heart of a DSLR. The quality of photographs depends very much on its value. Therefore, picking up Nikon D3100, you can be sure that you can get photos from it no worse than on a very expensive professional Nikon D300s.

2. The Nikon D3100 sensor has crop factor in 1.5x. If you decide to use a cropped digital SLR camera, then you should understand that when using full-frame lenses, the viewing angle will be less than on Full Frame cameras. This is neither bad nor good. On the one hand, the TV range automatically increases, and on the other hand, the wide angle becomes a luxury. If you haven’t shot a film or a full frame before, then this remark about crop factor you can’t take it to heart.

3. Yes, the small Nikon D3100 has as many 14.2 Megapixels... This is really a lot, and if you megapixels are importantthen the Nikon D3100 will be just right. More megapixels, at the moment, only at Nikon D5100, D7000, D3x, D4, D800,D800E, D3200, D5200, D600, D610, D810, D4, D4s. If someone wants to be happy for the little Nikon D3100, then know that 14,2MP give 4608 x 3072 more pixels than expensive professional Nikon D3s, Nikon D3, Nikon D700, Nikon D300s etc. But, in fact, the number of megapixels does not affect the image so much. Their huge number is most likely just a marketing ploy. You can read my little note on the topic Battle of Megapixels.

4. ISO limits. Nikon D3100 can change its value ISO 100 to 12.800... Although, in fact, only from 100 to 3200, the values 6400 and 12800 are a kind of software cheat, even in the camera settings they are denoted by a tricky one - ISO HI1 and ISO HI2. I strongly advise against shooting at high ISO values. For comparison, Nikon D90, Nikon D300, Nikon D300s has an ISO 6400 ceiling.

5. Everyone is probably interested in the noise of the matrix. Understand correctly, any matrix will make noise at high ISO, even Nikon D4  with its ISO 204.800. There is only one question here - to what extent this or that noise level is acceptable for a person. With a camera for amateur shooting, it is quite possible to shoot at ISO up to 3200. Considering that this is an amateur camera, I have no complaints about the noise level at high ISO. Here sample photo without processing at high ISO, no noise reduction enabled, exported directly from RAW at ISO 3200 - View Example.

6. 3 frames per second. Speed is enough for many types of shooting. I recommend always thinking, but do you need more than 1 frame per second? Yes, there are sports photographers, wedding photography and many other commercial areas of photography, where speed plays an important role, but you should not demand a high rate of fire from an amateur camera. It is unlikely that anyone will be filming a serious report or wedding on the Nikon D3100. I have enough head speed of 2.5 frames per second on my favorite Nikon D40, and the same 3 frames per second on Nikon D80.

7. Autofocus. Focus system consists of 11 points. This is very good news for all Nikon D1 users. D1h, D1x, D100, D40, D40x, D50, D60, D70, D70swho are planning to upgrade. Focusing with 11 points is very convenient. Focus points as many as cameras Nikon D90, D5000, D5100, D200, D80, D2hs, D2x, D2xs, D2h. Nikon Multi-CAM1000 is responsible for focusing. I had this focusing system on Nikon D90, there is no doubt about the quality of her work. You can read more about focusing systems on Nikon cameras here.

8. Display. 3-inch display, large, beautiful, contrasting, the same size as the Nikon D5000, Nikon D5100. The only thing is that he has only 230.000 points displaying information. More advanced cameras have over 900,000 points.

9. Video. Yes, Nikon D3100 can shoot Full HD 1920 × 1080 video. I am not a specialist in video quality. A nice innovation is the factor that the D3100 has autofocus when shooting video. For example, Nikon D90, D3s, D5000 does not auto focus when shooting movies. Autofocus is activated when the shutter button is pressed halfway, or is always on in mode AF-C... You can shoot at lower quality to save memory. The Live View button is combined with the start / stop button for video recording - it's very convenient. In video mode, aperture control is not available, to change the aperture values, you must first turn off Live View, set the desired aperture value, then turn Live View back on and start shooting.

10. The camera uses SD Flashcards. You can also use very high-capacity SDXCs. My device handles 32GB well SD HC Class 10. This is an important parameter; the speed of the camera depends on the speed of the card. A regular RAW file weighs on average 11-15 MB, 1 minute of FULL HD video weighs on average 150 MB. A JPEG L photo weighs on average from 3 to 8 MB.

11. The camera has a nice menu. The menu is made in the classic Nikon style. Everything is clear and accessible.

Photo on Nikon D3100

12. The camera is very compact and light. Weight is very important for the average camera user. The weight of the camera is one of the smallest among all DSLRs at Nikon. Nikon D3100 is even lighter for Nikon D40. Weight is very important, for example, when take pictures on a hike. The battery also holds a charge well, and without a flash it works out about 1000 frames.

Nikon D3100 has many other useful things:

  • dust matrix cleaning system
  • fast processor expeed 2
  • auto adjustment distortions
  • airflow control system to prevent matrix contamination
  • Live View Focus Mode
  • many tips on the menu and during shooting
  • good built-in flash
  • excerpt from 30s to 1 / 4000s
  • outputs for connecting to a computer and TV, port for GPS
  • Active D-lighting (which is either on or off).
  • Frame buffer puts 13 RAW files. Oddly enough, but the buffer is more than advanced Nikon D90, which has only 11 frames in the buffer for RAW. With this buffer, you can shoot continuously for more than 4 seconds in high-speed mode.

Disadvantages

This is an entry-level amateur Nikon digital SLR camera, therefore, it is not worth demanding anything more from it. But still, by the camera no focus motorthat will not allow the use of autofocus with cheap non-motor optics, for example, with the legendary Nikon 50mm F1.8D. At the camera no quick flash sync, minimum is 1 / 200s. Also, there is no flash control command mode, additional monochrome display. The camera does not know how to work with manual (old, without a microprocessor) type lenses AI-S. RAW files are available only with 12 bit color depth and with automatic compression. There is no rotary display and many other useful things.

Very often there is a choice of the first SLR camera among models Nikon D3000, D3100, D3200. Of course, everything new is always better than the old one, here is a comparative plate of the main parameters of these three cameras:

It can also be noted that the Nikon D3100 uses a pentaser mirror, a cheaper version of the pentaprism with 95% frame coverage. The camera does not support remote control, no bracketing and the camera has a new battery, not like in D3000That does not allow to combine batteries and chargers.

Personal impressions

The camera is very, very similar to its predecessors. The design looks a lot like Nikon D60, D3000. The only thing added a Live View button and a convenient switch of the shooting method. To the left of the camera there are cracks for microphone. The camera is really very light and small, almost the same as a baby Nikon D40. I recommend Nikon D3100 to anyone who wants an inexpensive DSLR with video function.

Important Note

If you choose your first DSLR, pay attention to the fact that the quality of photos depends very much on other parameters than on the camera. I wrote in more detail in my article - It is important how to take pictures, and not by what means. I note that I'm still shooting on the simplest Nikon D40.

At low ISO, the image itself depends little on the camera - the whole photo, its dynamics, color, tonal transitions, etc. very much depend on the lens and on camera shooting mode (saturated, portrait, etc.). Here sample image at ISO 3200 original resolution.

Recommendations

If there is free money, it would not be bad to buy a pretty fast lens, it could be Nikon 35mm F1.8AF-S и Nikon 50mm AF-S F1.8, in order to unleash the potential of the camera. The whale lens that comes with the kit can be used as a good option to achieve a wide viewing angle. If you have a lens Nikon 18-105mm f / 3.5-5.6G ED VR AF-S DX Nikkorthen they can shoot anything. What if 18-200mm - then this is one of the best options for all occasions.

Also, you can configure the Fn programmable button on the camera, I configure it to choose ISO. Before photographing set the shooting mode correctlyfor example, setting VI (saturated) for sharp and vibrant photos.

The camera has a super trick. When working with optics in manual focusing mode, the Rangefinder function can be used. The function helps you focus through the optical viewfinder. I am a big fan of manual optics, such as Helios-81H, therefore, along with Live View, this is an indispensable thing for improving manual focusing. But, as it turned out, Rangefinder does not work with manual optics, so it upset me a lot.

Conclusions

Nikon D3100 great camera for beginner photographers and for people who just need a good photo without unnecessary problems. Also, the camera shoots Full HD video with autofocus. Nikon D3100 is a compact, inexpensive and functional camera. It is enough to turn on the camera, remove the lens cap and press the shutter button and the sophisticated DSLR will do its job with a bang. Recommend.

  • This is my first digital-SLR camera, very good for a start, its biggest drawback is that you won't be able to unleash your potential right away. he is motorless, article super author +

  • Roman Yamborko

Good day. I have such a camera - I'm happy with everything except the size =) I have a big hand: (((I didn't pay attention when buying, unfortunately. How do you think if I take d90 (in principle I sell this and buy d 90 practically without overpaying =)) will I feel the difference in size and pentaprism.

    • Arkady Shapoval

Feel the size. The pentaprism is felt with dark lenses.

    • Dimdimych

buy yourself a Grippe better (a battery container is attached to the bottom of the carcass) and then your hand will hold the camera very tightly.

  • Roman Yamborko

And in a difference of matrixes there will be a difference ????

    • Arkady Shapoval

There will be, but just a little. Everything very much depends on the type and method of filming. In raw RAW without shallow adjustments at low ISOs it will be difficult to tell the difference. It's such a thing that the D3100 slightly overexposes the frame to make it more juicy, that is, it is aimed at the average consumer who needs a ready-made result right away. The D90 handles the exposure more accurately, and the pictures will not be so juicy. On the one hand, there is a difference, but on the other, it's just a trick.

  • Vadim

somewhere I stumbled upon a review in which the 3100 and 90th were tested for noise levels, and so, according to the d3100 review, it’s better than 90. I myself believe in it a little (owner of 3100) but the fact that the noise matrices are very similar

  • Crelian

Thanks for the brief and informative review! I myself am the owner of this device. I was going to buy another Nikon D3000, but so far I was already here and D3100 arrived in time. I have been using it for almost 3 months. After 1,5 months I realized that I needed to shoot only in RAW. Although the in-camera JPEG is good too. I shoot with a whale 18-55 and Helios 77 M4 through an adapter without infinity. I realized such a thing that real photography begins only in modes S, A, M and partly in P. Mode M with Helios is generally pure creativity and an endless process of cognition. By the way, in-camera JPEG is greatly improved by the Picture Control function. Reading the instructions and numerous review forums, I did not find a description of the Picture Control setting. Either no one configured this function, or I simply did not find it. A little description of this function. The available modes are SD (Standard), NL (Neutral), Vi (Vivid), PT (Portrait), LS (Landscape) + MC (Monochrome). When you set the cursor to any mode and press the “magnifying glass +” button, the “Saturation-Contrast” grid appears. So the modes SD, PT and NL and Vi and Ls are concentrated in 2 areas (SD and PT generally lie in one point). With fine tuning of any mode, we find 5 (!) Parameters: Sharpness, Contrast, Brightness, Saturation, Hue. Changing the location of a point on the coordinate grid occurs only when the Contrast and Saturation are changed. This feature is disabled when using Active D-Lightning and is not reflected in RAW images. I would like to say right away about using RAW and image correction in processors. Yes, this is a way out, but there are situations when you need a normal JPEG right away and there is no way to process RAW either in time or at will (for example, you live in another city and came to visit your parents in the summer on the sea, and their Lightroom computer is simply not pulls), and besides that, when shooting RAW, about 3 times fewer frames fit on a flash drive. Here are the feature settings that I recommend to everyone:
    SD (New Standart): Sharpness - “+4”; Contrast - “+1”; Brightness - “0”; Saturation - “+1”; Shade - “0” - for all occasions, except for Portraits;
    LS (New Landscape): Sharpness - “+6”; Contrast - “0”; Brightness - “0”; Saturation - “+1”; Hue - “0” - when shooting Landscapes;
    VI (New Vivid): Sharpness - “+7”; Contrast - “+1”; Brightness - “0”; Saturation - “+1”; Hue - “0” - when shooting Macro.
After entering these parameters into the camera, you will have 5 different JPEG processing modes located approximately on the ascending line. Such a function. Have a nice shot!

    • Arkady Shapoval

Thanks for the comment. I already wrote about the camera settings in the section fine-tuning Nikon cameras

  • Vadim

Thanks for the link, I think this device is one of the best amateur ones (probably, except for the baby d40, it's an eternal device)
the most significant disadvantage, however, like all cameras of this class, is the lack of a motor)
but this is a different story)

P.S. By the way, the Nikon d3100 is equipped with a chipped lithium-ion battery. Those. the camera does not perceive analogues, if you are interested, I can tell you a way around this bureaucratic incident)

    • Arkady Shapoval

If not difficult, then tell. The Nikon D3100 has the same battery and charger as the D5100, I think it will be useful to many. Thanks.

  • Vadim

Unfortunately, the wise Chinese allowed to bypass the chip system only by buying a booster.
I will not give lectures on how I like the battery pack (the camera is small for my hands.

Craftsmen learned that the camera scans the inserted battery immediately after closing the lid.
So, if you first insert the original EN-EL14 battery into the battery pack and pass a test on it, then you can insert an analog, and it picks up like the original! After such manipulations, the original one can be removed and the camera still works from the analogue as from the native one.
But in the reverse order, the camera even perceives a native one as a third-party one. So, the key is the moment when we insert the battery into the battery pack - the check is in progress.
I actually found a video on YouTube where everyone was laid out on the shelves

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKmfu8cgSPw&feature=player_embedded

    • Arkady Shapoval

      thanks, quite an interesting way)

  • Sergei

I’ve rented this device for half a year, except for the whale I use Helios 81N, Kaleinar 5N, Vega 12B, Mir 26B, a 2x teleconverter with Kaleinar, and a pair of lenses on the kit for macro x2 and x4, I only have the carcass in M mode, I haven’t even tried the rest, so more familiar, it was the first film from the FED, to Kiev 60 TTL and Moscow 4, the first and last I still regret it, I was stupid, I sold it, now maybe I would take out more money and take the D90, but in principle I’m satisfied, the biggest minus , small, for women’s hands, rather, and expo-briquetting would not hurt.

  • Jury

I myself shoot with such a camera, it seemed to me just excellent, apart from the lack of a screwdriver and synchro with a flash of only 1 \ 200 (but to be honest, I do not shoot with a flash practically)

    matrix generally pleases

on ISO 800 you can still get an excellent picture, on 1600 - as you are lucky, 3200 - only a 10x15 photo in a family album or a character BW (here you can already get 20x30) =) which is also not bad

the video is pretty decent, but something for six months I almost never used it =)

  • Catherine

Arkady, please explain, you write that the camera does not know how to work with manual (old, without a microprocessor) lenses, does this mean that it will not be possible to work on this camera with old Soviet lenses through an adapter?

    • Arkady Shapoval

This means that the camera is all the same, that it is without a lens, and that with an old manual lens. Therefore, exposure metering will not work (except in video mode) and the camera will want to shoot only in mode M. It will be possible to work through an adapter. More details on the Soviet Lenses page.

  • Valery

Hello. I read your reviews with great interest, but I ask your advice. I choose the first DSLR (when it was the zenith). I will use it for home for my family - traveling, walking, etc. Chose D3100 but continue to "torment vague doubts", D3100 or D5100. And about the lenses. As I understand the whale 18-55 will not be enough, and if you take the body, which set will be the most rational: 18-55, 55-200; or 18-105. And recommend an inexpensive portrait lens. Thanks for attention.

    • Arkady Shapoval

D3100 just right. 18-105 will be just right for all purposes, even for a 105mm portrait.

    • Crelian

Valery! In your case, I would consider the Nikon D3100 body + Tamron 17-50mm F / 2.8 XR Di II LD Aspherical (IF) option (with a Nikon motor). This option will be 10-15% more expensive than Nikon D3100 + 18-105 or Nikon D5100 + 18-55, but you will have a good fast lens, the analog from Nikon costs about 1,5 kbps. The only thing is not to chase the stabilizer in the lens, this version of this lens costs one and a half times more, and the advantage of using it at such focal lengths is almost imperceptible. Then, over time, you will decide if you need a telephoto lens. Moreover, when using a telephoto lens, it is advisable to put the camera on a tripod, but for amateurs who are not particularly keen on photography, this device is more of a burden. If you are still ripe for a telephoto, then I recommend Jupiter 37A for a start. Its focal length is 135 mm, and on the crop it is 200 mm with a constant aperture of 3,5. BUT IMMEDIATELY WARNING! NO EXPOSURE MEASURING - EVERYTHING HAS TO BE DONE BY HANDS IN M MODE !!! At the same time, you will understand whether you need a telephoto lens at all. And further! Consider this option: Nikon d3100 + 18-55 + Nissin Di622 Mark2 for Nikon flash. Believe me, this option is preferable in the premises for family and family holidays. Glass 18-55 is not so bad, in any case 18-105 is not much better, and the price for 18-105 is 2500 UAH. Tamron is asking for 2900-3000. Only these are glasses from different price and quality categories. 18-105 is generally highly overvalued - its price is 1500-1800, no more. But it's up to you! Happy shots and good choice!

    • Crelian

Here a little poyuzat Internet about prices. On the example of a digital shop.
      Nikon D3100 body = 4727 UAH.
      Nikon D3100 kit 18-55 = 5212 UAH.
      Nikon D3100 kit 18-105 = 7313 UAH.
      Nikon D5100 kit 18-55 = 6618 UAH.
      Nikon D5100 kit 18-105 = 8298 UAH.
      Nikon D3100 kit 18-55 + Nissin Di622 Mark2 for Nikon = 6747 UAH.
Nikon D3100 body + Tamron SP AF 17-50mm F2.8 XR Di II LD Aspherical (IF) for Nikon = 7636 UAH.
I would take with a limited budget up to 6000 UAH. Nikon D3100 kit 18-55, from 6000 to 7000 UAH Nikon D3100 kit 18-55 + Nissin Di622 Mark2 for Nikon, over 7000 UAH Nikon D3100 body + Tamron SP AF 17-50mm F2.8 XR Di II LD Aspherical (IF) for Nikon. Why Nikon D3100? Because the D5100 is in many ways a marketing camera. The D7000's sensor doesn't make it 7000. The swivel screen is handy, but not decisive. In addition, any mobile connection tends to become loose over time. The ergonomics of the D5100 are different from those found on many Nikon cameras. When moving from the D3100 to the D7000, the problems of getting used to the new camera will be minimal, unlike the D5100. All the gadgets in the D5100 are only applicable to JPG, as soon as you start (and you will start) shooting in RAW, all these gadgets will become unnecessary, and you pay for these gadgets! Believe me, the D3100 has good glass and an excellent camera in capable hands. Happy shots!

      • Arkady Shapoval

Thanks for the analysis and recommendations.

  • Valery

Well. Tormented by the problem of choice and feeling that the brain is no longer coping with the information, yesterday I went and bought it. D3100 and 18-105 were not on sale and I did not want to postpone the purchase. Therefore, I purchased the D3100 kit 18-55; and 55-200. I am satisfied with the purchase and thank everyone for the advice and recommendations. I will also use the industrial 61l / 3-ms 2,8 / 50 that I still have and I will buy a flash over time.
And tell me about the protective filters. I bought one, it costs about $ 30. And for every lens, taking a toad smothers. Or take on each, even with one thread, so as not to twist on the go?

    • Arkady Shapoval

You can take a cheaper one, around $ 15. - often no one can define the difference.

    • Crelian

Valery! Congratulations on your purchase, good choice! I own a kit D3100 and 18-55. Over time, I also want a 55-200 TV set. As for the filters, I decided for myself that I only need a polaric, I did not buy a protective one, because when the camera is not used, the cover is attached to the lens, and when I take it off, I don’t grab the lens with my hands. Of the other filters, there are still interesting options for gradient and neutral. but with a polarizer and a gradient at 18-55, there will be a slight inconvenience - this glass has a front lens that rotates when focusing and the filters will have to be tweaked manually after autofocusing. But this is not such a problem. The UV filter now only plays the role of a protective glass, the protection against UV radiation on modern cameras is already integrated into the matrix. In general, I congratulate you on a successful purchase and Welcome to the club!)))))

  • Alexey

Thank you for this review - it’s very interesting to read your reviews! I am the proud owner of this DSLR with a whale 18-55 for almost a year and do not regret it. In the summer I bought another 55-200 with a stub, after that I hardly use 18-55, only when shooting indoors, tk. 55-200 because of the focal length is not always convenient. But on the other hand, 55-200 in open areas is an irreplaceable thing! I especially felt it on vacation at sea - while I was riding a banana and a pill, my sister was shooting from the shore - the pictures turned out to be great! In addition to the 55-200 zoom, there is another plus - this lens is very smart. It is a pity that at that time I did not have time to buy a polarik (probably, I did not quite understand its purpose). But I bought the UV filter right away (I already understand that in vain), now I use it as a protective one. But about the video, I disagree with the author - this is a very useful thing and now there is no need to spend money on a video camera (unless, of course, to shoot weddings, etc.). Some moments (for example, when we looked at dolphins in the sea or drinking a sambuca cocktail) are better conveyed through video (IMHO). Have you seen videos about the cars of our majors (Beha X6 from Odessa) on YouTube? I advise you to look - I think after that many people will change their attitude towards video in DSLRs. And one more nuance (again IMHO) - it is better to shoot a video on a whale 18-55.
I would also like to note one plus of this camera (for me personally as an amateur, I think the pros do not use it) - it is a built-in editor. I often use the crop function (I'm just not a fan of Photoshop and processing photos on a computer). An interesting thing is also the overlay of frames.

Another question to the author - is it worth overpaying for a motor 50mm / 1.8 or taking a non-motorized fifty kopeck piece and shooting only in M mode? Or take Helios-81N instead of a non-motorized aircraft?

    • Arkady Shapoval

Thanks for the comment. I have a normal attitude towards the video, I just do not know how to handle it in the right way - therefore, I write in the review very briefly. Regarding the 50mm - I advise you to take the expensive 50mm F1.8G, any interest in working with a non-motorized one disappears - I have tried D40 and Nikon 50mm F1.8D AF many times. If the budget is very critical, then Helios-81n will help you with manual settings, and the drawing from Helios can be much more interesting than the classic fifty from Nikon.

Arkady, I'm going to buy a camera to take portrait shots. I have not had SLR cameras yet. Nikon D3100 kit 18-55 vr interested. Do you think it's worth buying it?

    • Arkady Shapoval

Hello. The D3100 is the best option to start with, and in general, a very positive camera. But for portraits, the Nikon 18-55VR lens itself is not suitable. I advise you to take Nikon D3100 body + Nikon 50mm F1.8G and you will be able to get more or less classic pictures with their beauty that are not inferior to pictures from the Internet.

  • Novel

I don't know where to ask the question - I will ask here :) you can put a focusing screen from KIEV 19 on Nikon D3100 ??? :))) with Doden wedges :)

    • Arkady Shapoval

People install, but I have no experience how to do it.

    • Stas

It is impossible, Kiev-19 is full-frame, and its focusing screen is one and a half times larger than that of cropped Nikons, with the exception of the D100, which has guts from a full-frame filmmaker.

  • Margot

Tell me how to check the camera when buying so that it is in perfect order ???

    • Arkady Shapoval

It is enough just to take a few pictures. It either works or it doesn't work. It takes a lot of time to check all the functions.

  • Kirill

Good day! Thank you for the huge amount of information provided by your site, a lot of new and interesting.
I have such a question, I want to purchase Nikon d3100 + kit 18-55VR, my mother’s birthday is coming soon, calls everyone to the restaurant, can I, as an amateur, take an amateur photo of the event.
Before that, there was only communication with digital soap dishes.
Or is it worth, after reading your reviews, to purchase 55-200VR?

    • Arkady Shapoval

You can. For a lover I advise D3100 + 18-105VR - it is enough for all occasions. 55-200VR should only be available as an addition to 18-55VR.

  • Sofia

There is a new D3200. Which do you think is better than d3200 or d3100?

  • Lily

please tell me whether it is worth changing your d3100 to d80 ??

    • Arkady Shapoval

      Do not be.

  • Svetlana

    Arkady, hello. Tell me, can I use Nikon d3100 with lenses Industar -61L / Z-MS 50 / 2.8 and Industar -50 / 3.5?

    • Arkady Shapoval

Only with appropriate adapters in M mode.

  • Maroussia

Oh, but tell me please, what is the number of shutter releases claimed by this model?

    • Arkady Shapoval

for younger models the number of operations is not announced.

  • Danel

I bought D3100 mainly for photos on documents. I shoot with Falcon Ice flashes, but the pictures come out with a yellow or red tint.
How to get rid of them?

    • Arkady Shapoval

BB change. Light distribution. There may be many treatment options.

  • Olga

Good day everyone. A question from a beginner - in the photo taken indoors, the face seems pink or orange, so it should be or change something in the settings, tell me where exactly.

    • Arkady Shapoval

This is due to the high ISO and automatic BB errors. You will find part of the solution in the rezdel white balance.

  • Olga

Thanks Arkady for a quick reply, I’ll be looking for it, I hope everything works out. Arkady if you have questions, you can somehow contact you or already arrogance. Have a good day.

    • Arkady Shapoval

Ask questions in similar branches on the site, many face similar problems.

  • Olga

    Thank you.
