Nikon D200 review

Nikon D200 great camera, which was released back in 2005, but can still please you with a wonderful picture. The camera has a nice clone: Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro, which differs from the Nikon D200 only in software and better matrix.

It is very funny that now on the official website of Nikon there are only two sections for modern SLR cameras - this is a professional section and amateur. So, on the same site, the camera is positioned as semi-professional. Just after dividing only into two classes, D200 was not transferred to the “professional” section. Why am I? And to the fact that Nikon D200 is really a professional camera with which it’s not a shame to shoot any type of picture. Can here see the evolution of all Nikon cameras.

In general, I am delighted with the Nikon D200, and after a day of working with it, I don’t feel like shooting anything else. The camera is quite weighty, sits perfectly in my hand, behaves perfectly with heavy lenses.

When working with a Nikon D200 camera, I highly recommend paying attention to such important parameters as:

  1. Great ergonomics. This is expressed in everything from a rubberized handle and discs to a shooting mode lock. Using well-thought-out ergonomics, the camera is very convenient to control; all the most necessary settings are always available and always at hand. By the way, even the bottom of the camera (where the tripod socket is) is also rubberized.
  2. Optional monochrome display. Just an indispensable thing for a professional. The display shows all the most important settings - ISO, aperture values, excerptsamendments exposure, the amount of free space on the card, white balance, picture quality, flash mode, battery charge, focus point and all that is possible. When the camera is turned off, the number of frames that can be taken to the remaining space on the memory card remains on the display. The monochrome display is larger than in younger models Nikon D90, D80, D70(s) D50, D7000.

  3. Dust and moisture protection. Of course, it is worth mentioning that the protection will be complete only if there are dust and moisture protective lenses, but in nature I have not seen such, because I will say that the camera perfectly tolerates light rain, dust, dirt and slight frosts.
  4. Using the card CF. Big card CF can reach enormous read/write speeds, which is very important for continuous shooting, and indeed for copying files to a computer. Although, my CF 32GB 400x during operation showed itself to be only 5MB/sec better than SD 32 GB class 10. As you understand, the Nikon D200 can handle even 32 GB normally.
  5. Huge continuous shooting buffer. Buffer can store 21 RAW files. Given that the maximum shooting speed 5 frames per second, the camera can click as long as 4 seconds in quick mode. 4 seconds is already a normal indicator. For example, my Nikon D90 starts to slow down after three seconds of filming at a speed of 4.5 frames per second. Also, keep in mind that when shooting in JPEG, the buffer becomes almost dimensionless.
  6. Whole 10.2 megapixels. Chasing megapixels is not worth it at all, but still 10.2 MP is enough for shooting in almost any genre. Of course, more is better, but I do not see any difference between the 10.2 megapixels of my Nikon D200, D80 and 12.3 megapixels of mine Nikon D90. Anyway, baby Nikon D40 with its 6.1 MP it can sometimes do with sharpness Nikon D90 with the same lens - look at the section Battle of Megapixels.

An example of a photograph on a Nikon D200 without processing. High ISO 1600

  7. The matrix on ISO 100 allows you to get just a very good picture, everything above ISO 400 is already a very bad result. About it a little lower. Having experience working with processing images from different cameras, I can say that at low ISOs, at some points, a CCD image is simpler and easier to “bring to mind”. The matrix of the Nikon D200, although in some respects similar to the sensors used in the models Nikon D80, D40x, D60, D3000but still different. Details here.
  8. The camera has focus motor, this will allow you to use any optics that can focus on Nikon, for example, the camera works great with non-motorized lenses Nikon 50mm F1.8D, Nikon 70-210 F4, etc. The motor buzzes when focusing, but nothing can be done, in order to save money on non-motorized lenses, you can be patient.

An example of a photograph on a Nikon D200 without processing. High ISO 1600

  9. The camera can measure exposure with any lens (and without a lens at all). This means that it will be possible to work in semi-automatic aperture priority mode with any manual lens. Even if you wear instead of a lens tin can, the camera will still measure exposure meter correctly. Also, for older lenses, a menu for setting the focal length and maximum aperture is provided. It is very, very convenient. Personally, I put on the programmable button the choice of focal length and aperture for manual optics. When I use my Helios-81N AI-s type, the Nikon D200 camera correctly displays 50mm focal length and maximum aperture F / 2.0, and if I twist the aperture ring on the lens, the camera also understands this and shows the following values F / 2.8, F / 4.0, etc. Important set manual lens parametersfor matrix metering to work, otherwise only spot and center-weighted will work.
  10. At the camera 11 focus points and just one cross-shaped sensor. Now 11 focus points put on the simplest Nikon D3000You won’t be surprised. But the camera has 4 focus modes and a special switch for them.

Sample photo on Nikon D200 without processing

Sample photo on Nikon D200 without processing

  11. Nikon D200 has a minimum 1/8000 short shutter speed, sometimes a very useful thing, especially when you need to shoot at aperture of 1.4 (or higher) on a sunny day. And still, Nikon D200 can fulfill non-standard excerpts type 1 \ 750, 1 \ 3000, 1 \ 90s, etc., which cannot be selected in priority mode excerpts or in manual mode. Intermediate values shutter speed allow adjust exposure more precisely. For example, with such shutter speeds, younger cameras, like Nikon D80, D90.
  12. The camera can control flashes in command mode. That is, if you have a Nikon D200 and any flash like Nikon SB-600, SB-700, SB-800, SB-900, SB-910 or third-party manufacturers, you can put it in a radius of 10 meters and shoot using Nikon's creative lighting system NIKON-CLS.

    Sample photo on Nikon D200

    Sample photo on Nikon D200

  13. And of course, fast flash sync. You can shoot with an external flash that supports FP mode, with any shutter speedup to 1/8000. Very important and necessary parameter.
  14. A bunch of all sorts of connectors that you rarely use, it's just too lazy to write about them, who cares, download the instructions and read for yourself.

    Example photo on Nikon D200

    Example photo on Nikon D200

  15. Limit ISO 100-1600 (100-3200). At the moment, this is not the best indicator, but I would say very low.
  16. The camera has  1.005-pixel RGB matrix metering sensor exposureinherited from the flagship camera D2X. Measurement works very accurately.

Example photo on Nikon D200. Portert

  17. Those who have read up to this seventeenth paragraph have probably already grown tired. There are many more important points that should be written about, but this is already necessary for a very narrow circle of people, therefore we will limit ourselves to this list of important aspects of the camera.

Disadvantages. Since I took the camera to a professional type, you can demand a lot from it. because I consider serious shortcomings:

  1. The delay when you turn on the menu or view pictures. Delay does not always occur, depending on whether you watched or took a picture on the camera. Usually, after turning on the camera and pressing the menu button or viewing the image, the camera “thinks” for 3-5 seconds, which is a disastrously long period of time. The card activity indicator is on. Actually the “communication" of the camera with the card takes this time. On my two cards, 2GB and 32GB 400x, the delay time is the same. This is not a very important point, but sometimes waiting for 3-5 seconds is still not a hunt. But the camera turns on instantly.

Example photo on Nikon D200. The light meter easily copes with non-standard tasks

Example photo on Nikon D200. The light meter easily copes with non-standard tasks

  2. The battery runs out very quickly. Really I have enough battery for 400 shots. You can still take a small photo shoot on one charge. But, for example, at a wedding without 2-3 batteries just can not do (checked more than once). This disease is treated by buying a special booster. The booster adds convenience when shooting, but it takes extra space in the case and adds extra weight.

    Example photo on Nikon D200

  3. The viewfinder does not give 100% frame coverage, but only the usual 95%. It's really annoying when after the picture you find an extra piece in the photo that fits in these 5%, which were not visible behind the scenes.

    Example photo on Nikon D200.

  4. 2.5 inch display. Yes after Nikon D90, D300 look at 230.000 points after 900.000 points at D90 not that anymore. Of course, offending the old D200 is bad, but the display is not the same as before. Many say that the D200 gives a bad picture, from personal experience I will say that professionals will not distinguish a picture from Nikon D200 and Nikon D7000 with the same lens and the same settings at low ISO when printing and / or on a computer monitor (I personally conducted an experiment that confirmed this). But almost everyone will say that the picture looks much worse on the Nikon D200 display than anywhere else. Why is not known.

  5. The standard lack of gum in all Nikon cameras is that they swell and fall off. Let me explain - the rubber, which is so nice to the touch, swells over time and comes off.

    Example photo on Nikon D200.

  6. Very poor results at high ISO. Given the age of the camera, you can come to terms with this.

  7. It’s bad that when switching the compression level, the RAW buffer still shows 21 frames. For example: compressed RAW weighs about 10 MB, and not compressed about 16 MB, it would not be bad if the camera placed more frames in the buffer with the compressed format.

    Example photo on Nikon D200.

  8. No focus adjustment. Honestly, when I bought a Nikon D200, I was just saddened by this, since for some of my lenses adjustment would not hurt.

    Example photo on Nikon D200.

    Example photo on Nikon D200.

  9. Nikon D200 is one of the few cameras that does not have a menu for post-processing photos. In general, no processing of the filmed material with the camera is provided. I was very surprised when I discovered this. You can't even convert from RAW to JPEG.

A couple more moments:

Nikon D200 bribes with its ability to enlarge the image is actually 1 to 1 with one button. This is real, very much accelerates the choice of a sharp picture. Moreover, the camera enlarges the picture at the focus point. The camera is not such a familiar (for all users of the line below) the method of zooming the picture. To enlarge the picture you need to press as many as two buttons and the main control dial. But the multi selector has 8 directions. Impressions are positive.

Choose and don’t know what to take?

It is unlikely that someone will say with certainty whether the camera is suitable for you or not. At the moment Nikon D200 is outdatedher descendant Nikon D300 Has matrix cleaning, Live View and less noise at high ISO. Nikon D300s in addition, it also shoots video and clicks the shutter much faster, and even on 2 cards. Well and Nikon D7000 in general can still better. Well, if it’s at all hot to take a camera of a similar level, you can look at Nikon D80, which has similar image quality with the Nikon D200 and the only significant difference is not the ability to work with manual optics. Hack and predictor Aviator:

Nikon D200 - professional digital SLR camera, which is now not available and which can be taken at a ridiculous price. Able to do almost everything you need. Not suitable for beginners in photography - there is not a single automatic shooting mode, for everything you need to think for yourself. It is also hardly suitable for the pros, since it quickly eats up the battery and has strong noises at high ISO. But in fact, the only drawback of the camera is that now there are much more advanced Nikon D300(s) D7000that make things even better. So who will suit Nikon D200 - I can’t say for sure, but in skillful hands you can squeeze a lot from her.

  • What

Indeed, a very reliable camera. Mileage more than 500000 thousand, without any maintenance. They took new ones. Still alive.

  • Alexander

Give some advice please. I can not decide with a choice between D200 and D90. Which one to take?

    • Arkady Shapoval

What are the goals, objectives, skills, optics park?

      • Alexander

The goal is just a set of experience in small photo shoots (children's parties, etc.). Of the optics, only 18-55, sigma 28-80 and helios 81n.

        • Arkady Shapoval

          Still recommend d90.

          • Alexander

Thanks. I was inclined to this option too because of the opportunity to get the best result at high ISO

  • Anders

    D7100

    • Alexander

Question about D200 and D90. It is clear that the D7100 is better in all respects.

      • Cruel Kronos

And the D7500 is even better. And the D500 is even better, and new cameras are just around the corner. It is because of them that the d200 is no longer worth a thousand bucks and patchats from a district like us can get it. And this is good

  • anonym

    Great review, thanks!

  • User

Hello Arkady. Tell me, is it possible to install firmware from Fujifilm FinePix S200 on the D5?
I would like post-processing in the camera menu

    • Arkady Shapoval

      Must not

      • User

Tell me more, on d300 without s, is there also no post-processing? and if you choose the color rendering quality, what is better than d200 or d300? Thanks!

        • Michael

is like. on s there definitely

          • User

For 300s yes, but only it costs almost 2 times more expensive. but in d300 most likely I don’t, as it seems to me, I wanted to clarify

    • Charles

      Their matrices are radically different.

      • User

I know. That's why I asked what would be better

  • Melnik373

Good day. Just bought a d200. There is firmware 1.01 and 1.00. The site Nikon is 2.01 and 2.00. Is it worth it to reflash or not? If it’s easy, give a more detailed answer (pros and cons). Bought a wife as a gift, she really wanted a good mirror. They dashed for a long time, but thanks to your site, they finally decided. And, lo and behold, we bought a d200 with a Nikor 35-70 lens, 3 batteries (+ pen), a memory card, and all at an affordable price. Now the wife is happy and completely immersed in the study of materiel.)

    • Ruslan

It’s worth reflashing, at 2.01 a rare, but still unpleasant error was fixed, in which with some lenses at the most inopportune moment of shooting the charging indicator began to blink, as if the battery had run out, although there was still enough charge.

      In version 2.01:
-Fixed an issue where, in rare cases, the battery indicator blinked regardless of the remaining battery power (Dead Battery Syndrome).
      In version 2.00:
-Image authentication item added A new item “Image authentication” has been added to the setup menu.
      - A wireless transmitter item has been added to the setup menu. This item is available only if the optional WT-3 wireless transmitter is connected to the camera.

  • Stanislas

Does it make sense to change d3100 to d200?

    • Arkady Shapoval

Only if there are lenses without a motor. Otherwise, I do not see the point.

      • Stanislas

I have now 35 mm, YONGNUO 50 mm, Jupiter 25m and Helios 44

  • Paul

The camera is probably not bad, but for some reason the author forgot to mention that it is cropped. Who is tight with finances, but really want to have a DSLR, maybe it makes sense to get it.

    • Valery A.

The author mentioned that she has a matrix like 4 other cropped cameras. And the camera is not the cheapest and easiest to this day.

  • Alexander

    Hello!
I want to buy this unit with very low mileage. I already wanted to make an advance payment for the shipment, but then one “expert” warned that they could be used to rewind the shutter counter in the service. A question for knowledgeable colleagues, is this really so?
    Thank you

    • Valery A.

The service workers will better answer you. According to rumors, this is not an easy matter, it's easier not to touch the mileage, you still can't cheat by the external state of the photo.

    • Alexander

I also heard that they learned to reel, and not only in the service. On Avito, externally killed cameras with miserable mileage indirectly confirm these rumors. Look at the e-Wow, almost new cameras often skip over there.

      • Charles

        Long ago we learned ...

  • Dima

Are the d200 colors worse than the fujifilm s5 pro?

    • anonym

D200 is noticeably weaker in terms of DD - i.e. the camera will be extremely sensitive to contrasting lighting and contrasting scenes. A typical example is sunny weather, where the sun goes / goes into the clouds.
The D200 will be like the old crop Canon. Also a sadly broken sky.
S5Pro in Wide mode will pull this.
Pripyatka has an interesting preset for working with portraits. Skinton is very good.
At Propyatka, the real resolution is only 6MP (3000x2000), which was not enough even 10 years ago.
Both cameras have a rather thick AA filter on the matrix like the D700. Because of this, Impregnation is extremely demanding on expensive sharp lenses, which will show better results on other cameras than on Impregnation ...
Both cameras are selling more expensive than they should be due to their popularity.
Good unbroken ghouls go to Avito now after 20 thousand rubles.
D200 can be bought cheaper, but DD is noticeably worse. The color is not bad.
But if you need a GOOD COLOR, but there is no money, then take D80 or D40.
Do not believe me - look at the pictures from Arkady. They have the nicest color for TsTSD Nikon, not D200.

      • Charles

As the owner of the D40 and D200, I will express my own opinion that the magpie is more colorful, but works poorly with scenes in which there are no warm tones at all. For example, a lady’s photo in natural light in a room with pale blue wallpaper turned out to be so terrible that I had to take it in monochrome. The D200 easily copes with such scenes, but it doesn’t act so warmly with warm colors.

      • Dima

        Thank you.

      • Basil

Does it make sense to buy s5pro when there is a d40 for the reason of just taking a picture? Preferred portraits? Attracts the presence of a screwdriver and film stimulation effects

        • Charles

Of course there is, this is a unique camera.

  • Cruel Kronos

After d60 and d5100 I decided to buy d200. The device is sold for 5000 rubles, with a mileage of 25000, but without a front elastic band (that is, the grip is obtained for the metal of the case, and not the rubber of the handle. The purchase is experimental - a) a little money out of your photographic equipment and b) get acquainted with professional management and exposure metering on manuplists. Now the seller just gave him a drive. Lenses - 35mm 1.8 AF-S, 18-250 Tamron without vr, 17-50 2.8 with vr.
I want to get a comment from experienced guys)

    • Alexander

It will probably be uncomfortable without an elastic band. On eVau it costs about 3000r - inhumane. You can try to make something out of leather. Be sure to buy a spare battery (1000r at the world flea market), d200 is very gluttonous, there is enough charge for 400 frames.

      • Cruel Kronos

Thank you for your comment, I have been using the device for six months at the moment. Two batteries included. The front elastic band is dear, scanty (stretched out - soaked - shrunk more than necessary) But all are better with an elastic band than without it. I like the device, despite its antiquity. Fast optics compensate for ISO limitations. I don't think about new carcasses yet. Use profile - family and amateur

    • Denis

in professional cameras, constantly all gum falls off on the run, which amateur pass without a trace)))

      • Alexander

It is not a matter of professionalism, but of the material used. Nikon uses rubber, it is more pleasant to the touch and better in grip with the hand, but it absorbs sweat from the palms, swells and comes off. The canons are deprived of this drawback, because there is not rubber, but rubber, it is worse in tactile qualities, but it doesn’t fall off after 30 thousand (and with someone before) a run.

        • Denis

actually the mileage is just twisted
I have d7100, there is no hint of exfoliation for now. mileage 40 thousand frames

          • Charles

People's hands are very different ...
And they shoot everything in very different ways. Someone snaps off 40 K frames in three days, someone in three years.

            • Alexander

That's right. It's one thing to shoot in the cold, and quite another under the scorching sun. In the first case and after 150 thousand gums nothing will happen, and in the second after 10000 they can fall off, as happened with my s200exr fuj (there is also rubber).

              • Dima

Some kind of heresy, Nikon just can’t put in so many years that you need to install normal rubber bands. How many D90s have I seen with mileages of up to 20 thousand, all these rubber bands come off. On my d5100 it’s ok so far. Natural rubber is a very wear-resistant material, even shoe soles are made from it. Why not make these handles from silicone? Not only is the material very resistant to physical and temperature influences, it is also very environmentally friendly. So that's kind of an excuse. Fuji also does not differ in the quality of these rubber bands and the case as a whole.

    Hello!
Please tell me if the focus trap on the D200 will work when using manual lenses without a chip?
Where to read about it in more detail?

    • Alexander

Autofocus hover will work on ALL Nikon with all the lenses that you can install. No chip is needed, the cheapest adapter for 70p is enough if the lens is not with a native mount.
On older cameras, a type d200 camera will also measure exposure, i.e. can be shot in aperture priority mode.

      • anonym

I know about the green dot that it works on all Nikons with all lenses.
But about the automatic shutter release when it gets into focus when the button is fully held down, is there any doubt, is a chip needed for this, or does this function work without a chip too?

        • Alexander

Is such a function in d200? I don’t remember something.

          • anonym

In the D40, this function only works with chip lenses. Called "02 Focus Mode"

            • Alexander

It is necessary to check on your d200, maybe there is a trap. Honestly, I didn’t even read the instructions, I just looked at a couple of incomprehensible moments and that's it.

    • Arkady Shapoval

      will not, here - https://radojuva.com/2011/04/optika-na-nikon/#how-focusing

    NEEDED ADVICE!
Is it worth taking a NIKON D2019 in 200 for UAH 2500 with mileage of 83 thousand?
    Thank you in advance!)

    • Semen

Although the price is small, the mileage is already quite serious. I'd rather dig up and take the device fresher.

  • Dmitriy

Six months ago, I took 47000 mileage for 3100 UAH, with two batteries and a memory card, with perfect rubber. I made a conclusion for myself long ago - there is no need to rush, after a while, something cheaper and better than what you hurried to take will appear at the CFM ...

  • Vadim

Dinosaur but cool. I have been using it for more than 5 years.

  • Archie

It seemed as if the skinton was yellow everywhere. That's all the camera is good, but the old and yellow.

    • B. R. P.

So this is a proprietary CCD color) Some lenses turn yellow.

    • Alex

It’s probably better to turn to Canon for a skinton. But if you compare Nikon's CCD and CMOS, then I like the first more, their color is more bold, especially warm colors. I made a comparison of the d200 and d300, a very similar color, except for red, in some cases it is difficult to make it normal in the pictures with d300 even in the editor, and for two hundred it goes straight to the jeep.

      • Michael

Canon also "turns yellow")) Features of AutoBB)

    • 1Ds_mk3

Perhaps the yellow accentuates the lens. For example old Sigma or some Nikkory.
There are 3 solutions to the problem: 1) The cheapest ~ buy Kenko Skylight UV filter. Its trick is that it is pink and even on old Nikonovsky cmos with this filter the skinton comes out more healthy.
      2) Processing in lightroom or a native new developer. On older cameras, you always need to control the BB.
      3) If everything is tired ~ buy modern Fuji or Canon. Canon is even non-modern.

  • Vadym

"9. The camera can measure exposure with any lens ...." - Can Canon 40D do that?
    Can someone say something?

    • Arkady Shapoval

      can

  • Eugene

How will electromagnetic diaphragm lenses behave on this camera? Will they work at all?

    • Arkady Shapoval

They will always shoot in the open. Details here.

      • Eugene

Arkady, what about a lens with a variable aperture value (for example, 100-400 mm f / 4.5-6.3)? Will the value 6.3 apply, I guess for all FRs?

        • Arkady Shapoval

Do not understand correctly. It will be from 4.5 to 6.3 depending on the focal.

I tried it yesterday - it works without problems

  • Melnik373

    Good afternoon.
    I apologize for the offtopic.
Wife, suddenly decided to print, on paper, pictures taken on the D200.
And now, only then, I realized - the money was not wasted in vain! On lenses, bag. Still, the screen transfers much worse. And if you compare, then only printed photos. We compared it with others (made on LG, Samsung, Fuji, and Zenit E-type soap dishes), just day and night! Once again, many thanks to Arkady and everyone on this site !!!
I thought that the D200 is just a whim of a blonde wife, and even the fullhd TV did not impress the photos on the screen. Now, I'm for it! Yesterday I even bought her a 55-200 lens as a gift!
Thanks to everyone who helped determine the choice of camera-

    Nikkor AF 70-210mm F4
who used this device on d200

    • Sergei

I will answer myself. With your permission. Took 80-200 f4. Super. Spontaneous manual focus sealed with electrical tape. Cheap and cheerful. Now the trunk does not succumb to the pens of gravity.

      • Sergei

Of course, the aesthetic component is lame.

  • Sergei

    Somewhere like that.

  • Sergei

    And on the other hand.

People who have a Nikon D200, please tell me how to shoot on it with autofocus, I got tired I can’t understand how to do this. Thanks.

    • Arkady Shapoval

In the same way as with any other CZK. Turn on the AF (on the lens and near the mount on the camera), configure the button that activates the AF and shoot for your own pleasure.

      • Andrew

Clear, then broken. The only strange thing is that this happened on 2 cameras in a row bought on Ebay, maybe radiation affected the plane?

        • Pokemon

          And what kind of lens?
Does it work correctly on another camera?
The D200 is a fairly strong camera, and sellers on ebay with a good rating honestly write if there is a problem. D200 is clearly not the camera, because of which it is worth risking a rating.

            I tried Nikkor AF-S 50mm 1.4G, Nikkor AF-S 24-85mm 3.5-4.5G, Nikkor AF 70-300mm 4-5.6D

All AF-S ki work fine on d3200

              Mystic.

When I updated the firmware three years ago on my D200, it began to fail. I don’t remember how or what, but glitches disappeared after the firmware was rolled back. There was a whole brood of fresh cockroaches, with AF and flashes and burst shooting. Although in theory this should not be.

Good day! And how can you roll back to the previous firmware, or to the one that was. Now I have A-2.00 B-1.00 Everything works. Do I need to switch to the latest A-2.01 B-2.01. No blinking of the battery icon was noticed.

      • Andrew

        Can go to manual? :)

    • Peter Sh.

And further. Often on professional cameras, the AF is turned off at the shutter button, and focused through the af-on button.

      • Pokemon

Peter, this is for working in the studio?

        • Michael

Yes, not necessarily. It's just convenient to untie the shutter button and AF. Flies separately, cutlets separately) The report is also very convenient

          • Pokemon

            Curious, thanks!

            • Jury

try once and you won’t come back :)

          • Peter Sh.

            Whoever you like, actually)
For example, I fully hold the camera with my right hand, and turn the zoom with my left. It's not easy for me to move my thumb - it is always firmly rested against the camera, hence I never use af-on.

          • Peter Sh.

That day there were quite intense competitions, I shot 5 thousand frames. If you do not hold the camera with a dead grip, feeling for the buttons with your thumb, then in 12 hours your hands just fall off. I have tried more than once, but I’m not used to it.

          • Peter Sh.

By the way, to shoot 5 thousand frames on D3s, one battery was enough for me)

Acquired Nikon D200 in September. Yes, it is even more noisy at high ISOs than the D70. I made special tests from a tripod with the same 35-70 2.8D lens, it turned out that the D200 has a sharper picture, but also noisier. But "out of the box" in good light gives more fat than the D7100 with the same lens. You can use the noise of the matrix for the good, if you want a type of artistry. Portraits work well on the street and in the studio; if you have a flash, you can shoot a subject and food. For the soul - a great option.
