Nikon D200 review

Nikon D200 great camera, which was released back in 2005, but can still please you with a wonderful picture. The camera has a nice clone: Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro, which differs from the Nikon D200 only in software and better matrix.

It is very funny that now on the official website of Nikon there are only two sections for modern SLR cameras - this is a professional section and amateur. So, on the same site, the camera is positioned as semi-professional. Just after dividing only into two classes, D200 was not transferred to the “professional” section. Why am I? And to the fact that Nikon D200 is really a professional camera with which it’s not a shame to shoot any type of picture. Can here see the evolution of all Nikon cameras.

Nikon D200, view of the camera Nikon D200

In general, I am delighted with the Nikon D200, and after a day of working with it, I don’t feel like shooting anything else. The camera is quite weighty, sits perfectly in my hand, behaves perfectly with heavy lenses.

When working with a Nikon D200 camera, I highly recommend paying attention to such important parameters as:

  1. Great ergonomics. This is expressed in everything from a rubberized handle and discs to a shooting mode lock. Using well-thought-out ergonomics, the camera is very convenient to control; all the most necessary settings are always available and always at hand. By the way, even the bottom of the camera (where the tripod socket is) is also rubberized.
  2. Optional monochrome display. Just an indispensable thing for a professional. The display shows all the most important settings - ISO, aperture values, excerptsamendments exposure, the amount of free space on the card, white balance, picture quality, flash mode, battery charge, focus point and all that is possible. When the camera is turned off, the number of frames that can be taken to the remaining space on the memory card remains on the display. The monochrome display is larger than in younger models Nikon D90, D80, D70(s) D50, D7000.

  3. Dust and moisture protection. Of course, it is worth mentioning that the protection will be complete only if there are dust and moisture protective lenses, but in nature I have not seen such, because I will say that the camera perfectly tolerates light rain, dust, dirt and slight frosts.
  4. Using the card CF. Big card CF can reach enormous read/write speeds, which is very important for continuous shooting, and indeed for copying files to a computer. Although, my CF 32GB 400x during operation showed itself to be only 5MB/sec better than SD 32 GB class 10. As you understand, the Nikon D200 can handle even 32 GB normally.
  5. Huge continuous shooting buffer. Buffer can store 21 RAW files. Given that the maximum shooting speed 5 frames per second, the camera can click as long as 4 seconds in quick mode. 4 seconds is already a normal indicator. For example, my Nikon D90 starts to slow down after three seconds of filming at a speed of 4.5 frames per second. Also, keep in mind that when shooting in JPEG, the buffer becomes almost dimensionless.
  6. Whole 10.2 megapixels. Chasing megapixels is not worth it at all, but still 10.2 MP is enough for shooting in almost any genre. Of course, more is better, but I do not see any difference between the 10.2 megapixels of my Nikon D200, D80 and 12.3 megapixels of mine Nikon D90. Anyway, baby Nikon D40 with its 6.1 MP it can sometimes do with sharpness Nikon D90 with the same lens - look at the section Battle of Megapixels.

An example of a photograph on a Nikon D200 without processing. High ISO 1600

  7. The matrix on ISO 100 allows you to get just a very good picture, everything above ISO 400 is already a very bad result. About it a little lower. Having experience working with processing images from different cameras, I can say that at low ISOs, at some points, a CCD image is simpler and easier to “bring to mind”. The matrix of the Nikon D200, although in some respects similar to the sensors used in the models Nikon D80, D40x, D60, D3000but still different. Details here.
  8. The camera has focus motor, this will allow you to use any optics that can focus on Nikon, for example, the camera works great with non-motorized lenses Nikon 50mm F1.8D, Nikon 70-210 F4, etc. The motor buzzes when focusing, but nothing can be done, in order to save money on non-motorized lenses, you can be patient.

An example of a photograph on a Nikon D200 without processing. High ISO 1600

  9. The camera can measure exposure with any lens (and without a lens at all). This means that it will be possible to work in semi-automatic aperture priority mode with any manual lens. Even if you wear instead of a lens tin can, the camera will still measure exposure meter correctly. Also, for older lenses, a menu for setting the focal length and maximum aperture is provided. It is very, very convenient. Personally, I put on the programmable button the choice of focal length and aperture for manual optics. When I use my Helios-81N AI-s type, the Nikon D200 camera correctly displays 50mm focal length and maximum aperture F / 2.0, and if I twist the aperture ring on the lens, the camera also understands this and shows the following values F / 2.8, F / 4.0, etc. Important set manual lens parametersfor matrix metering to work, otherwise only spot and center-weighted will work.
  10. At the camera 11 focus points and just one cross-shaped sensor. Now 11 focus points put on the simplest Nikon D3000You won’t be surprised. But the camera has 4 focus modes and a special switch for them.

  11. Nikon D200 has a minimum 1/8000 short shutter speed, sometimes a very useful thing, especially when you need to shoot at aperture of 1.4 (or higher) on a sunny day. And still, Nikon D200 can fulfill non-standard excerpts type 1 \ 750, 1 \ 3000, 1 \ 90s, etc., which cannot be selected in priority mode excerpts or in manual mode. Intermediate values shutter speed allow adjust exposure more precisely. For example, with such shutter speeds, younger cameras, like Nikon D80, D90.
  12. The camera can control flashes in command mode. That is, if you have a Nikon D200 and any flash like Nikon SB-600, SB-700, SB-800, SB-900, SB-910 or third-party manufacturers, you can put it in a radius of 10 meters and shoot using Nikon's creative lighting system NIKON-CLS.

    Sample photo on Nikon D200

    Sample photo on Nikon D200

  13. And of course, fast flash sync. You can shoot with an external flash that supports FP mode, with any shutter speedup to 1/8000. Very important and necessary parameter.
  14. A bunch of all sorts of connectors that you rarely use, it's just too lazy to write about them, who cares, download the instructions and read for yourself.

    Example photo on Nikon D200

    Example photo on Nikon D200

  15. Limit ISO 100-1600 (100-3200). At the moment, this is not the best indicator, but I would say very low.
  16. The camera has  1.005-pixel RGB matrix metering sensor exposureinherited from the flagship camera D2X. Measurement works very accurately.

  17. Those who have read up to this seventeenth paragraph have probably already grown tired. There are many more important points that should be written about, but this is already necessary for a very narrow circle of people, therefore we will limit ourselves to this list of important aspects of the camera.

Disadvantages. Since I took the camera to a professional type, you can demand a lot from it. because I consider serious shortcomings:

  1. The delay when you turn on the menu or view pictures. Delay does not always occur, depending on whether you watched or took a picture on the camera. Usually, after turning on the camera and pressing the menu button or viewing the image, the camera “thinks” for 3-5 seconds, which is a disastrously long period of time. The card activity indicator is on. Actually the “communication" of the camera with the card takes this time. On my two cards, 2GB and 32GB 400x, the delay time is the same. This is not a very important point, but sometimes waiting for 3-5 seconds is still not a hunt. But the camera turns on instantly.

Example photo on Nikon D200. The light meter easily copes with non-standard tasks

Example photo on Nikon D200. The light meter easily copes with non-standard tasks

  2. The battery runs out very quickly. Really I have enough battery for 400 shots. You can still take a small photo shoot on one charge. But, for example, at a wedding without 2-3 batteries just can not do (checked more than once). This disease is treated by buying a special booster. The booster adds convenience when shooting, but it takes extra space in the case and adds extra weight.

    Example photo on Nikon D200

  3. The viewfinder does not give 100% frame coverage, but only the usual 95%. It's really annoying when after the picture you find an extra piece in the photo that fits in these 5%, which were not visible behind the scenes.

    Example photo on Nikon D200.

  4. 2.5 inch display. Yes after Nikon D90, D300 look at 230.000 points after 900.000 points at D90 not that anymore. Of course, offending the old D200 is bad, but the display is not the same as before. Many say that the D200 gives a bad picture, from personal experience I will say that professionals will not distinguish a picture from Nikon D200 and Nikon D7000 with the same lens and the same settings at low ISO when printing and / or on a computer monitor (I personally conducted an experiment that confirmed this). But almost everyone will say that the picture looks much worse on the Nikon D200 display than anywhere else. Why is not known.

  5. The standard lack of gum in all Nikon cameras is that they swell and fall off. Let me explain - the rubber, which is so nice to the touch, swells over time and comes off.

    Example photo on Nikon D200.

  6. Very poor results at high ISO. Given the age of the camera, you can come to terms with this.

  7. It’s bad that when switching the compression level, the RAW buffer still shows 21 frames. For example: compressed RAW weighs about 10 MB, and not compressed about 16 MB, it would not be bad if the camera placed more frames in the buffer with the compressed format.

    Example photo on Nikon D200.

  8. No focus adjustment. Honestly, when I bought a Nikon D200, I was just saddened by this, since for some of my lenses adjustment would not hurt.

    Example photo on Nikon D200.

  9. Nikon D200 is one of the few cameras that does not have a menu for post-processing photos. In general, no processing of the filmed material with the camera is provided. I was very surprised when I discovered this. You can't even convert from RAW to JPEG.

A couple more moments:

Nikon D200 bribes with its ability to enlarge the image is actually 1 to 1 with one button. This is real, very much accelerates the choice of a sharp picture. Moreover, the camera enlarges the picture at the focus point. The camera is not such a familiar (for all users of the line below) the method of zooming the picture. To enlarge the picture you need to press as many as two buttons and the main control dial. But the multi selector has 8 directions. Impressions are positive.

Choose and don’t know what to take?

It is unlikely that someone will say with certainty whether the camera is suitable for you or not. At the moment Nikon D200 is outdatedher descendant Nikon D300 Has matrix cleaning, Live View and less noise at high ISO. Nikon D300s in addition, it also shoots video and clicks the shutter much faster, and even on 2 cards. Well and Nikon D7000 in general can still better. Well, if it’s at all hot to take a camera of a similar level, you can look at Nikon D80, which has similar image quality with the Nikon D200 and the only significant difference is not the ability to work with manual optics. Hack and predictor Aviator:

Nikon D200 - professional digital SLR camera, which is now not available and which can be taken at a ridiculous price. Able to do almost everything you need. Not suitable for beginners in photography - there is not a single automatic shooting mode, for everything you need to think for yourself. It is also hardly suitable for the pros, since it quickly eats up the battery and has strong noises at high ISO. But in fact, the only drawback of the camera is that now there are much more advanced Nikon D300(s) D7000that make things even better. So who will suit Nikon D200 - I can’t say for sure, but in skillful hands you can squeeze a lot from her.

A monochrome screen is a completely useless thing. Nothing is visible on it, and what is visible is not needed by anyone. The viewfinder has all the necessary information. And if you need something else, then on a large, color, luminous screen, you can humanly see NORMAL designations, and not these monochrome hieroglyphs, it is not clear what they mean.

    • Arkady Shapoval

Yes, apparently because on TOP cameras they make two monochrome displays :)

    • Lynx

      haha! dude write well!

  • anonym

For the kind of money that they charge for “your” top models, you can push not only two monochrome colors there, but also a telephone, a coffee grinder, and a heater so that your hands don't freeze in the cold. But to say that all this is necessary for high-quality photography is not worth it. And in fact, gentlemen, I have not heard from you, not one counter argument in defense of such nonsense as a monochrome screen, but only an angry chug. As you can see, you yourself cannot answer this question. In my opinion, these are just cheap show-off of young amateur photographers.

    • Pastor

Let me try to describe my view of the monochrome display. Firstly, my camera most often in the stowed position hangs around my neck, and not in front of my face. Therefore, it is more convenient for me to make the settings casually looking at the camera from above. Secondly, when you shoot from a tripod set at a height of 50-100cm, it is more convenient not to bend over, but to look from above. Thirdly, changing the viewfinder settings while keeping the camera close to your eye is a very tricky business, especially when you need to change the focus point, aperture and ISO. There is a chance to gouge my eye out :) Fourthly, at any moment I can look at this screen and immediately know most of the settings on the camera. I shoot a jpeg or rav, where is the focus point, what is the aperture and shutter speed. All there, all together and comfortable. I don't have to press any buttons - the information is always there.
In addition, in the dark, the backlight of a small screen is not as blind as the large LSD screen on the back of the camera.
I have cameras with and without a screen, but I can’t say that it is extremely difficult to work without a screen. Of course, efficiency is a little less, but for the amateur it is not so important. But reporting in a hot spot, shooting a wedding or just an important event, losing even a split second on the settings through the main display is tantamount to losing any important information.
Well, if you don't see something on a monochrome screen, then buy glasses. No kidding. The screen there is excellent and everything is perfectly visible with good vision. But I am not agitating you for the screen, if you do not want to - take a camera without it, you will not lose anything. And your phrase “But you shouldn't say that all this is necessary for high-quality photography” is definitely correct, for high-quality shooting you need good hands, not screens. Well, other technical parameters of the camera. Screens for the convenience of those who are used to it.

    • Lynx

it would be thin, but it turned out too thick, alas.

  • Peter Sh.

About battery consumption. I bought 2 Chinese, at 2000 mA / h. Enough for 1000 shots (another third of the charge shows, but I do not believe, just in case). It is without flash. Each frame is a double.

And further. When I took it, he had the latest firmware. Smeared a lot with Sigma 30mm 1.4.
I installed the previous version of the firmware, now rarely misses, as well as native fifty dollars.
Vague suspicions torment me, but what if Nikon specifically makes non-native lenses smear?

  • Peter Sh.

    * In the sense, one battery is enough for 1000 shots.

  • anonym

Arkady, there is a question, tell me, after the impact, the Mode button on the d200 stopped working, now you can shoot only in P mode (and this does not work!) Is there any other way to switch modes without a button? Thanks.

    • Dmitry K

      Nope

  • anonym

I didn't find it in the menu ... So, for repair / scrap? (

    • Lynx

replacing the button is not so problematic .. for repair.

      • anonym

Thanks. Only there not one Mode button flew out. Also, + | - stopped working, as well as the On-Off button (hung in the On position) and backlight. But all this is not as critical as the mode selection button ...

ps The LCD still dripped a little in the lower right corner, but nothing vital was lost.

By the way, there’s another question: from which camera, except d200, is the LCD suitable? Maybe from d90 or Fuji s5 Pro? Thanks.

        • Lynx

in short - the back panel for replacement, apparently.
from heap - should come up ... in theory. But on the same ebee, it is easier to find all the components from d200, and without any questions, “will fit, will not fit”.

          • anonym

Thanks for the answer, but why change the back panel? LCD drip top monochrome. On ebee, alas, I did not find anything except the shutter drive ...

  • Wellvet

Tell me what to change d200 for? I love him dearly, but rarely use it because of weight. I like to shoot nature. It’s lazy to take on trips (therefore, I’m looking for a replacement that would be no worse, but easier. Of the lenses, there is a fifty-fifty and Nikkor 16-85mm f / 3.5-5.6G ED VR. And it is also attached to it.

    • Jury

Not worse, but lighter - D7x00 - they are more compact, lighter and more modern. Anything below the level - D5x00, D3x00 - after D200 will be much less comfortable in terms of ergonomics.

    • Jury

Another important nuance - if your fifty-kopeck piece is of the “D” series, then it is definitely better to take the D7x00, because on the D5x00, D3x00 this lens does not support autofocus. If you have “G”, then the autofocus will be fine on any Nikon DSLR.

      • Arkady Shapoval

Not D and G, but AF and AF-S

  • Sergei

Hello Arkady! I am faced with the choice of Nikon d80 or D200. I read about D80 that the working segment 46,5 makes it impossible to use adapters for Soviet lenses with M42 thread with the working segment 45,5. And one more question. If you put Helios 200-44 on the D2, will the Nikon SB700 flash adjust to the exposure that the camera measures.

  • anonym

Tell me how the camera will work with speedlight sb-27 ???

    • Kirill

I have sat-25 - FP does not work and ttl everything else works, from sat-27 it will be the same

  • Dima

I look at the pictures taken by the D200, somehow soapy, sometimes dull and pale.
If you do not take into account the technical side of the issue, but just look at the pictures,
then of the three models (d80, d90, d200) the most “tasty” picture is obtained for d90.

Good day. Before the new year, I bought a D90 at a pawnshop for a ridiculous amount with the lens in a new state with a mileage of about 16.000, and today I accidentally rummaged through Olx and saw d200) It would be blasphemy for that amount, especially since the condition is like new. He brought home checked the mileage - 60.000, which is very small for such years. The previous reading of this article encouraged me to buy a lot. A thing for your money is really worth it! You take it in your hand - it’s heavy, comfortable, made of magnesium alloy, 1 \ 3 more than D90. The only negative is a small faded screen, it is very hard to look on it, as well as not quite familiar after d90 control. Well, I don’t know what I will do with two SLRs, but I'm definitely happy) If anyone really needs this model, then I think we could agree. All the best, and happy holidays!

    • Valery A.

If you shoot people, then D80 or D200, IMHO, I have D200 and D5100, it removes 200 more contrast and colors are more natural and beautiful. You yourself know the difference between 80 and 200 - 200 is bigger, heavier, the battery eats up (I have enough up to 100 pictures), but they say that the matrix is special there.

      • Vladimir

Hello! Please tell me how with the color on the D200 in jpeg format? I don’t like to mess with rams. I have a D40, but I would like to take an inexpensive camera, but with better ergonomics, for working with manual lenses. Share your experience with an amateur!

        • Arkady Shapoval

The color is good. For a great color, grab the S5 Pro.

        • Pastor

At the moment, I have accumulated both d200 and d80 and fuj s5pro. In general, the jpegs of all three are good, but nevertheless, when compared head-to-head, Fuj wins. If there is no way to buy it, then choose between d200 and d80. When shooting easier, I prefer d80 - the photos are the same as on d200. But if you need to shoot in bad weather or you need a higher rate of fire and the convenience of working with a large telephoto lens, then I take the d200. The battery eats up on the d200 really quickly, I shoot with a bat-block and during a day of active shooting, both batteries die. I may not charge the same 7d with the butblock for several weeks, for example, and the d80 lasts much longer with the butblock. But in general, if there is enough charge for a day, then what more could you want :)

          • Vladimir

Thank you for your prompt reply! I am inclined to buy a d200. The weight and battery capacity are not critical for me, I’ll have enough for a day of shooting. I don’t take weddings and corporate events. The S5 Pro is certainly good, but they are few on sale and cost twice as much Compared to the d200 and d80 with the same mileage.

            • Pastor

Yes, Fuji is still much more expensive than 200 and 80. In general, it is the convenience of working with the d200 that is higher than with the d80. But for a walk it is easier to take d80 with you - much easier and more inconspicuous. For myself, I divided them this way - into city events and any action in good light - d200, and for a studio and walks in the city / forests - d80.

              • Vladimir

That's the problem! Just for outdoor walks I need a camera. The D200 impresses with its ability to measure exposure with manual lenses, which is not in the D80. Although I can do without the D40, I’ve read a lot of reviews on these cameras, as it’s all mixed ! Having experience working with both cameras, some praise the D200, others praise the D80. And I’m thinking how not to get into trouble with the choice of camera.

              • anonym

Good day! Tell me if you’ve seen a picture of d200 and d80 by noise, DD and correct exposition? Does it really mean that d80 is often enough? Do you want to be more attractive? What is the lightest shutter sound of the d200, like the d 80 (I think it’s a good sign of good tenacity)? D200 can be taken in the studio as a student? Dyakuyu !!!

              • Pastor

Anonymous: As for me, the difference between d200 and d80 in the picture is subtle. Overexposures do appear more often at d80, but they also occur at d200. As for dd and working ISO - they are about the same for these cameras, no noticeable difference. Sharpness is also the same for me, with the same glass both give the same result. The filter can be more, but it does not really affect. As for the sound of the shutter, I am somehow at a loss in conjectures, like the claps are different, but which one is quieter or louder I did not think about. The d200 shutter is in theory more reliable, and the shooting speed is faster, but the d80 also passed 100-150 thousand for people without problems. Of course, the d200 should produce more, but since the cameras are no longer new, it will depend more on the previous user - how he shot and what he did with the cameras. I use d80 for the studio, everything suits me in it. In principle, a studio is such a thing where there are no problems with light, which means that any camera will give a good result, even a telephone one. But d80 also gives nice colors. But here, again, with d200 the difference will be minimal.

              • anonym

Duchey Dyaky for the joy !!!

            • Pastor

As for me, both are good, now I understand with my mind that two cameras that are essentially the same are not needed, but I can't decide which one to sell :) But if I had one camera and had manual glasses, then I would take the d200. Of course, you can also manual on d80, but it will be extremely difficult to remove something more or less rapidly changing in M mode. So here d200 is in the black due to exposure metering. Well, and how the protected camera d200 outperforms the d80 - with the appropriate lenses, you can safely shoot in light rain or snow. Even for reports d200 is much better, 5 frames per second versus 3 is a noticeable difference. In general, objectively, the d200 has more advantages, but it's still a pity to sell the small and energy-intensive d80 :)

              • anonym

Just a couple of nourishment: it seems that d200 has a special sync contact for studio sleepers, more beautiful, less remote transmitter? more beautifully "pulling" rav (kaut vіn more, nіzh at d200? Dyakuyu!

              • Pastor

Unfortunately, I don’t know about the synchronizer. I use a light trap in the studio.
And the raves, in my opinion, stretch about the same, the ravs with d200 do not differ in some kind of pulling. Maybe this is what I think in comparison with Fuj s5pro - the difference is immediately visible there. The lights stretch just wonderfully. And in d200 and d80 everything is about the same.

            • Lynx

              do not take "soak" ...
Then, if you have to shoot on another camera, you will be sad and sad, every time you recall the dynamic range and the colors of the spot.
too much sinks into the soul, infection.

        • Charles

The color is worse than the D40. But better than the so-called Novonicon.

        • Jury

I think that with the color of the D200 everything is fine, the ergonomics will also please. Regarding the color - here are two chamber zhpegs, one of them is Fujing (the body is from D200 and the matrix is slightly better), the second is Nikon, is there a big difference?

          • Vladimir

Thanks to the kind people for their help !!! I will look for the D200 in good condition.

          • anonym

The first photo seems a bit obscure. Is this two hundred so soaping?

            • Valery A.

How can a 12-megapixel matrix wash? This is not your current 24-ki, for which the lens is not the same, the shutter speed is long, then the differential. the limit came early (you will not envy today's amateur who took such a camera as his first). It can be seen that the focus is not there - the DOF is displaced, the front panel is out of focus, but the monitor is sharper (the aperture is probably the same).

            • Jury

Not that lathers. These are cameras, the left photo is Fuj, the sharpness is not twisted in the profile (if you set the maximum, it will be better), moreover, this is a frame crop to eliminate unnecessary details. I took these photos to compare different profiles of files on Nikon and Fuji (+ find out some more questions). I apologize if I misled you, but there is no D200 in these pictures, on the right-D800 (another reason for the seemingly poor sharpness on the left). With this photo, I wanted to show that the color of modern CMOS cameras and CCD cameras is not so different. And the CCD matrices Fuja and D200 will have even less differences.

              • anonym

If there is a two hundred, take a picture from it too!

              • Denis

it seems to the left the focus missed a bit. but the left picture is no worse than the right IMHO

          • KalekseyG

the difference is, but not terribly. gradations of black and white vary. and this is not a monitor but a window

          • Vladimir

Fuji needs optics with good resolution, because there is a tough anti-immunity filter.

          • Antip

Nikon has a harder picture and richer color. (Right)

  • Charles

My D200 takes 400 shots on one battery, and 750 on the other, fresher. I ordered another original one.

  • Sergei

In the price category nikon d 3100 and d200 are equal. But if you do not take into account the functionality of the cameras, and look only at the finished photos, which SLR has the best photo quality?

I ask such a stupid question because I want to buy one of these models.

    • Valery A.

D200. This is especially evident in the best quality on faces shot.

    • Pastor

I used both, now there are d200. It is noticeably better in most parameters. Loses at work at high ISO, but d3100 is also not enough stars from the sky. Please note that the d200 is much heavier and larger, and also does not have the "sports", "night" modes and the like, which are in demand by novice photographers.
Once again, it is with the final photo d200 much better d3100.

    • Alexey

Recently, my wife's sister called her daughter to the christening, where they suddenly handed the D3100 and asked to take pictures, of course, with a built-in flash and whale 18-55 ... The ergonomics of the Volga in comparison with the Lexus. In addition, with the same set of built-in flash and the 18-55, the D200 performed much better. I didn't see any advantages in D3100 .. Shadows last worse than in D200.

what is more convenient to work with d200 or d5100.your advice.

    • Arkady Shapoval

Management at d200 is more pleasant. In d5100 in terms of convenience, Live VIew and a pop-up display, less weight and size.

I took d200 for myself after d3100 - for the same money that I sold, impressions are positive, I like it more, both in terms of control and in the picture. And autofocus works better. True, I’m getting used to the controls, I didn’t understand everything on the fly, but there’s nothing terrible)

Good day. I have been using this camera for a couple of months. I bought it and I do not regret it; the picture is just a miracle. The only thing I can’t do is work with an external flash. I have sb900. When I take pictures with the flash, the flash first emits a lot of short pulses, and then the camera shoots. It turns out that this is a fairly long time that the camera takes a frame. It takes 3-4 seconds for one frame. Although the shutter speed is 1/250. What could be the problem?

    • Arkady Shapoval

Turn off the red-eye mode on the camera. Press the button for raising the built-in flash and turn the dial until the eye icon disappears on the monochrome display.

      • Jury

to the button with a zipper, which is under the button for raising the built-in flash

      • Tatyana

Thank you so much for the response and for the promptness! I fixed everything and now the shooting speed is just wonderful !!! Thank you for your site, which is always happy with wonderful articles !!!!

  • Bogdan

I shot a wedding with a friend (I don’t do wedding photography). And I managed to take about 1000 photos on one battery, and the charge still remained. True, I used only an auxiliary display, and a lens (sigma 50-150 2.8) with a built-in motor

  • Ivan

    Good afternoon!

Thanks for the review, it was interesting to read.
Tell me, please, what is the color depth of the d200?

    • Charles
