First impression of the camera - sits perfectly in the hand, has a significant weight of 790 g, very well shot down. Rubberized handles. The case and control parts are very well knocked down. I personally liked the Canon 10D much more than its competitor Nikon D100. Of course, time takes its toll, and the camera does not have many modern functions, but it still shoots - which means it was made wisely and properly, and the inscription Made in Japan pleasing to the eye.

As usual, the important points that a photographer should pay attention to when buying and / or using a Canon 10D.
- Camera only supports Canon EF lenses. The camera does not support EF-S crop lenses. This limits the choice of lenses, it is especially difficult to choose a native super wide-angle lens.

- Canon 10D has an APS-C sensor with crop factor 1.6. This means that the angle of view with the lenses will decrease and the Canon EF 50mm f / 1.8 II lens will have an angle of view equivalent to the angle of view of the 80mm (50mm * 1.6 = 80mm) lens on a film camera or in full frame. - Canon 10D excellent ergonomics. Maybe the display is small, but large selector. Moreover, its size is huge - because it is very convenient when rotating in a circle. For me, this is even more important than a huge display. Using the buttons you can quickly change BB, ISO, amendment exposurefocus point. The camera has a bracketing function.

- Optional monochrome displayon which all the most necessary information is displayed. The presence of an additional display is difficult to overestimate, and this is not archaism, but simply a well-designed functional tool. The monochrome display has a yellow backlight, which is activated by an additional button.

- Camera Canon 10D can measure exposure with any lens and even without it. This feature is sorely missed by Nikon's entry-level and mid-range cameras. This means that you can put on the camera a cheap Helios-44m-2 and get just the prohibitive quality of images in a semi-automatic aperture priority mode. True, there is one minus when working - no confirmation of focusing when working with manual lenses, which is on the Nikon system. If you need confirmation of focusing, then purchase an adapter with a built-in chip (Dandelion Lushnikova for Canon) will help with this.
High ISO Photos at Canon 10D
- The camera uses large CF UDMA, which allow to achieve very high write / read speeds.
- Canon 10D has buffer for 9 RAW frames. This is a good indicator. My Nikon D90 has a buffer of 11 frames, and a direct competitor Nikon D100 only 4 frames. In serial shooting, the Canon 10D works 3 seconds before starting to slow down. It pleasantly surprised me. Of course, in JPEG you can shoot much more before the buffer is full.
- ISO 100 - 1600, can be increased to 3.200, if you enable the ISO Expansion menu item
- In the camera Canon 10D no Russian language. It will not be convenient for someone to use.
- Canon 10D shoots at maximum speed 3 frames per second. It's not much, but on my Nikon D40 2.5 frames per second is enough for me for all tasks. Each has its own shooting style, because each person's attitude to rate of fire is also different.

- The weight of the RAW file is 5-7MB. JPEG file weight from 1 to 5MB.
- Flash sync with minimal shutter speed 1/200. The camera does not have the ability to quickly synchronize with flashes and can not control the flashes remotely.
- The camera turns on in 2 seconds. Pretty long. Especially when you need to frame as quickly as possible. Also, when viewing images, the camera thinks a little.
- At the bottom of the camera, where there are tripod mounts, there is a lid for a tablet battery. I think the battery is needed for an intra-system timer. I've never met this before.

Personal experiencee: Canon 10D does not have the usual multi-selector with left-right keys, it is rather unusual, and in order to move around the selected area when viewing an image, you need to change the directions up-down and left-right with an additional button. Viewfinder is small, complicates focusing with manual optics. But I really liked the ergonomics in general, and if not for the small display, then I would not hesitate to take the camera to one of the modern Canon 50D, Canon 60D.

The camera almost always quite correctly determines BBThe colors are great. Noises - yes, without them anywhere. The camera gives out high noise at high ISO above ISO 800. Personally, I have long stopped bothering with noise, especially after I conducted the test described in the article Battle of Megapixels. True, the Canon 10D does not always correctly guess the exposure, you just need to get used to it and make the necessary correction when shooting, or just shoot in RAW with post-processing. It is clear that it can be proved that the picture with the Canon 10D is much worse than modern super-duper cameras, but Radozhiva does not do this and is of the opinion that important how to take pictures, and not by what means. And each person chooses the technique individually.
To date, the Canon 10D is the camera at the best price-quality performance for people who value the final result, rather than a million chips on the camera. I recommend the camera for beginners and even for advanced enthusiasts. For about six years I often shoot 10D. I use it for portrait photography in a mobile studio and stationary. I have never seen the best camera in terms of visual quality! Portrait shots are so subtle, so vivid, saturated with delicate nuances !! Working sensitivities are not higher than 400 units, better than 100. In the studio, you can adjust the illumination level! The camera works great with ANY Canon optics, it is not capricious at all and surprisingly reliable for our days. Yes, it turns on very slowly and records slowly. But where to rush in the studio? Several of my colleagues, after my feedback about this "grandfather", almost for nothing in the thrift shops bought 10D as an addition to their 50, 5, 7D and were very pleased with the purchase.

Everything about it is good, in the absence of the speed of work with a memory card ... here it certainly loses to its top models today ... but otherwise, the main thing in it is the quality of the picture, well, the look at what you see in the end captivates! I recommend to everyone with the smallest budget who wants super pictures for a minimum of banknotes! I wish you could find a camera with a shutter not killed!
