  • Thank you very much for the article, otherwise my friend already got it, I have a sony a33 (CMOS), and he has a minolta maxxum 7D (CCD). He claims that his colors are completely different, more realistic. We somehow tested, really different, but by tightening the saturation and darkening a little blue and green from my CMOS in Photoshop, it turned out that the colors are the same, but the detail of my Sony A33 is much higher than 14MP (and 5 years younger) against 6MP minolts ...

I think CMOS is better))) my personal opinion

  • Fedor

After reading many forums and articles, I tracked down a pattern from most statements about the superiority of CCD matrices in image quality, which is generally confirmed by theory - initially the dynamic range is higher, and no further hardware, and even more so software algorithms are not able to increase it in CMOS ; Nikon's advertised backlight only increases sensitivity. It turns out that CCDs are either extolled, or, as it were, justifying CMOS, do not find a difference in the images (sometimes switching to
“Not the importance” of this question), however, there are practically no converse statements about the superiority of CMOS - only a few expressing their personal opinion, most likely, out of patriotism towards their cameras.
Comparative tests of similar cameras with different respective matrices show a larger image volume with a CCD, possibly due to greater contrast, which is also inherent in a CCD. On the quality in these tests, opinions differ in half.
Many argue that with a CCD, the image stretches better in the editor, which again corresponds to the irrefutable theory of a larger dynamic range. At the expense of the same noise - again the theory claims the superiority of the CCD, but why, then, the majority is considered the undeniable noiselessness of CMOS? There are many theoretical and even review articles on this, where a strong CMOS noise reduction algorithm is mentioned. The CMOS technology itself allows the use of more different image conversion algorithms, since they can be placed on the same matrix.
As a result, by most opinions, it turns out that CCD and CMOS are either considered equal, or the CCD has a better image; Well, what cannot be taken away from CMOS: faster, less power-consuming, cheaper, has more advanced noise suppression algorithms - but this does not add detail :-(
I also think, like Arkady, that Nikon switched to CMOS for the sake of marketing "chips" - LifePreview, FullHD video, crazy burst shooting and other nonsense.

  • Anna

And can the same thing now, only for dynamic images? I choose a DVR and I can not decide on the matrix. Many cameras also support video recording. Which camera records the best quality video?

    • Arkady Shapoval

For video questions, I can’t help.

  • Denis

Of course, I understand that everyone got this type of questions, but still: What camera to take ???
I need a camera for everyday use, so that my wife can figure it out, chasing the super-zoom with small dimensions, but I also want good photos. So, I looked after the Canon PowerShot SX210IS and Canon PowerShot SX220 HS, they differ in the types of matrices. Which is better I did not understand !!! Please advise which one to choose or tell me something else more worthy in their price category.

    • Arkady Shapoval

I did not have experience with these cameras, I can not tell.

  • Denis

Arkady, I apologize for the persistence !!!
Perhaps you have something to say about the Canon PowerShot SX150, Canon PowerShot SX130, Nikon Coolpix S8100, Panasonic DMC-TZ7 ???
I want compactness, a good zoom, not very intricate, but at the same time the maximum quality of photos. This is my first fotik, I don’t know what to choose. Maybe you know something better, because I'm lost in the choice, and especially the parameters scare me: the type of matrix, its size, and for more complex photics, the inability to get normal photos in auto mode (I already figured out some parameters). Can you tell me the parameters which must be followed when searching ???
Thank you very much in advance!!!

  • Arkady Shapoval

It is worth adhering to the following parameters when choosing a soap box (basic)
    1. Zoom ratio
    2. Compactness
    3. The size of the sensor
    4. The ability to shoot video and its quality
    5. Battery Type

I would take some option from Canon Power Shot

  • Denis

    Thank you so much!!!

  • chlorat

Arkady, judging by the exiphs, all three pictures of Nikon D40 were taken !!!!

    • Arkady Shapoval

Strange, there is one picture in the article, therefore, EXIF is one, and it is with D40, and then two more are sewn to this picture in Photoshop, therefore, the original and only EXIF from D40.

I recommend Fujifilm FinePix S200EXR. I own such a camera now.
I chose the camera for a long time and carefully comparing it with others and a lot of pictures…. I looked through a lot of reviews (in particular, in the Internet club of the owners of these cameras)
When I realized what kind of camera it was, I began to “walk in circles” ... Because it turned out that it had been taken out of production and in the summer of 11 stores sold out warehouse leftovers in Moscow. True, only later, as I bought it from my hands, it was practically new in a complete package ... Then a couple of times I met offers for S200EXR from internet stores. But at a high price ... The camera gives out some kind of special ... a very artistic drawing ... the eye somehow relaxes when viewing photos .... It really feels right ... and I believe that this is the result of a successful coincidence of many reasons .. Both the Fujinon optics and the CCD-matrix (I spent a lot of time on this issue I picked up a lot of material and concluded that it plays a big role ... a very big one) ... In general, everything coincided and gave a synergistic effect ...

For Helsy On Post December 26th, 2011 at 1:17 am

Sorry ... I pressed the button and started an unauthorized start ... of an unfinished post :-))) I will continue ..

I'll tell you that Fujifilm FinePix S200EXR (let the DSLRs beat me with stones (although I also have DSLRs, but the truth is more expensive) ... it easily leaves standard DSLRs behind ...)
And if we touch on the issue of detail ... And I think it's easy to explain .. In the case of Fuji, you get a finished product adjusted in production conditions ... with a decent content ... In the case of a DSLR, this is all problematic ... Basically, I think, every lens to the DSLR requires a certain adjustment ... adjustment for the carcass ... if you want to get the full return ... How many owners of DSLRs have done this? And if they gave it to the workshop, then I think not every workshop is properly equipped as the manufacturer of the equipment is equipped and will the specialists in the workshop be able to do the alignment as well? And do they have the appropriate qualifications ... methodology for a particular type of technique ... ... etc. ? That is the question…
But even this will not completely define the drawing! There is a lot more ... And the camera's ability to convey the finest color shades, ... and the number of these gradations that it can transfer to the picture ... (Fuji has an EXR technology, the range is 400%) More ... Budget (and not only) DSLR optics , I will say - it does not reach the level installed on Fuji S200EXR ... This camera has amazing detailing ... amazing ...
I carefully analyzed a lot of pictures and I declare this responsibly ... As a rule, when viewed with even a small magnification, the pictures of DSLRs already show porridge ... soap ... Not very good studies in the shadows ... but as a rule, there is no elaboration of deep shadows at all ... you only see the silhouette painted over in black ... looked a lot of such pictures ... very ...
And what is more ... Very small noise is characteristic ... It is of some kind of structure, that if it is indicated, it does not strike the eye ... does not strike ... does not interfere ... (of course, to a certain extent) naturally ....
Regarding Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ100, this camera has a CMOS sensor (CMOS) Its crop-6 (S200EXR CCD (crop -4)
CANON Powershot SX30 already has better ... CCD 1 / 2,3 ″, i.e. the crop is also 6 and at 14,1Mp million pixels, I suppose the noise will be more noticeable due to the smaller area of a single pixel.
But, as Kozma Prutkov said:… “And there are spots on the sun”… What are the significant disadvantages found in Fuji.
Bad description. Because of this, it is difficult to master the very numerous shooting modes. I do not recommend taking artistic photos on the machine. It works best with manual settings. Manual focus is something ... It is adjusted by rotating the ring on the lens along the length of the strip in the eyepiece ... It is very inconvenient ... its length changes due to the camera's displacement during rotation .. that is, it twitches all the time while you turn the ring and understand whether it has reached the maximum is difficult.
    True autofocus works fine.
Another minus - the camera is not very strong stabilizer ...
Panasonic should have it much better. In my life experience, this company is above all in terms of electromechanics ... Find out about the stabilizer ... ... I have a Panasonic FZ-2 camera ... well, there is a stabilizer above all praise ... Lubrication is generally ooooooo problematic ... In comparison with it, you can to tell. that Fuji has no stabilizer at all!
What else…? In general, this Fuji is not a camera for reporting ... It is more for a leisurely, artistic shooting ... for the soul ...
Here's another minus. The viewfinder matrix conveys the picture a little roughly .. On a bright day, you want to have an eyecup on the camera ... Well, it seems everything ...
But ... In conclusion, I will note the following ... Just the way you understand ... Nobel Prize is not given ...
This is Nobel, not hukhry-muhry ...
You can give many examples, arguing your position. But I will say that the advantages of CCD (CCD) are seen among professionals involved in artistic (not reportage) photography. Perhaps this is what determined the fact that where the image quality is extremely important - in studio cameras Mamiya, Hasselblad, Lake, etc., there are CCDs (CCD) And in the backs, you will not find CMOS (CMOS) sensors. CCD only! This is a kind of standard. Does this tell you something? Does it tell you that not so long ago, just in 2009, for the invention of CCD-matrices 40 years ago, scientists of Bell Laboratories, Boyle and Smith were awarded the NOBEL PRIZE !!!

    http://news.argumenti.ru/news/2009/10/06/24704

Those. I think CCD-matrices proved to be worthy and over these 40 years a definite opinion was formed, which made it possible to put them in the short-list of applicants for NOBEL - the first and to award these scientists with the world's highest scientific award.
Does this mean anything to you ??? This is a fact of recognition and of what rank! On the highest bar ... !!!

I'm a newbie, help with the selection of the inexpensive Fujifilm FinePix S4200 Super Bench, BenQ GH600, or Olympus SP-620UZ

Hello, I'm new to this business, I want to buy a camera for my home and periodically for taking pictures on wildlife, here I faced the problem of choosing two Nikon Coolpix L810 or Nikon Coolpix S6300 cameras. L810 is more expensive but also a bit better, like pa parameters, but is it worth the overpayment of that money compared to the S6300?

Arkady Shapoval - Thank you so much for your reviews and articles, they are very useful and informative, I took note of a lot in them. I just recently became interested in photography only (6-8 months). But you helped me a lot with your articles and reviews. Of course the photo is taken by a person - not a fotik ....)).

Hello! I’m trying to figure out the next purchase, many will be interested in the same thing. Now I’m using Panasonic TZ — I don’t remember the number, one of the first TZs with an optical zoom of 10 and 2 megapixels. I want to hear the opinion of the pros based on the criteria for shooting outdoors, in traveling conditions. The mirror does not fit in dimensions.
Question1 Does focal length affect optical distortion? (in general, by the parameters, it does not always correlate with the optical zoom, and is not indicated everywhere).
Question2 What type of matrix is better 1) in low light, 2) backlight, 3) less noise.
Advise the addresses of net, where else to enlighten.

Photo taken with a cheap kenon a540 soap dish. The main thing in the camera is the ability to establish “friendship” with its “owner”, so that there is harmony, so that the user has no complaints about technology. Each request ceiling is different, mine is Canon Power Shot. Something steeper bothers me and I will not understand, and mastered 100 percent. I am proud that I am not tempted to show off with photographic equipment. Thanks.

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Arkady, I'm not asking for much help. I understand, the article is not about that, but still ... I have a D5100 18-105, I got fed up with the lens, I couldn't understand what I wanted, and I couldn't figure out the answers and other things. Please provide me with information on the suitability of my lens body. I can't figure out if all Nikon lenses fit. And I can't find lenses with normal prices, if not hard help with these questions. Thanks in advance.

In the studio and now you shoot on the Nikon D80 with CCD ???

Worked with Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro ??

Thank you, not a newbie photographer, but a very good thread. It became a little clearer in a practical sense

Ladies and gentlemen! Assist in choosing a digital camera for a child of 16 years old, daughter. I have long wanted a camera with a large lens, there is a penchant for macro shots (it uses some kind of Canon IXUS family soap dish). I still can’t understand the nature of hobbies, so I did not consider the DSLR. I ask you to suggest what it is worth choosing from the 6 models I have examined (which is at hand in the DNS): FujiFilm FinePix HS25, FujiFilm FinePix HS30, Nikon L810, Nikon P510, Canon PowerShot SX500 IS, SONY HX200B. Sony scared 50/50 + - reviews, so I will not consider it sooner. Of course, I would like not to overpay for unnecessary, so let's say it is worth buying the FujiFilm FinePix HS30, if the FujiFilm FinePix HS25 is almost identical. and how necessary is RAW mode in amateur photography ?. Thank you in advance for your views.
