It’s quite a nice glass, but because of the shallow depth of field on the aperture up to 4 it seems soapy (although with crooked hands and on the others too :)). I have 2 helios, 44-4 and 44-2, there is such an interesting moment on both, infinity at infinity, but at zero, or rather its right part of the last maximum digit, that is, at 44-4 this is the right edge of the 10 meter mark, and at 44-2 it is the right edge of the 20 meter mark. I have helios 44m and ms helios 44k-4, the latter due to ms enlightenment has better contrast and holds side light not bad (unlike 44m) both lenses show very good sharpness and contrast with aperture 2.8,
- when fully open, noticeable spherical aberrations sometimes give an unexpectedly strong soft effect (almost like a monocle)
- by 2.5 the picture is more definite (and quite predictable) but the CAs are still noticeable and the sharpness is not quite sharp: D
- at 4-5.6, I just don't know where it is much sharper =)
