DIY macro lens. Create a macro lens

How I did a macro lens ...
It was in the evening - I took pictures of the watch in the water, I realized that nothing good will work out on my whale 18-105mm at 45cm focusing (for 35mm).
Therefore, I had to review a bunch of macro lenses on the Internet (in fact, there are not so many of them on my camera). The parameters are wonderful - but the prices bite a little, so I bought a pair of lenses for experiments in a nearby market. (photo below)

Selection of lenses for experiments

Selection of lenses for experiments

Bought lenses (in the photo above) are characterized by the magnification factor, in the order from left to right 5, 6, 10, 6 and long focus, in the order from left to right, 90, 60, 50, 60 mm.

distance measurement to the lens

distance measurement to the lens

To get the most acceptable quality you need to position the subject at a distance less than the length F (focal length). The figure shows that I set the object at a distance of 5cm.

You can already work with such an arrangement, we get an increase in the image on the face. It remains only to photograph. This is what we do, we install our camera, so that the main centerline coincides at the lens and the lens and we adjust ... (photo below)

Macro setup

With such a shooting decreases focal length the lens itself (more precisely, the ability to photograph at a shorter distance).

But this method introduces inconvenience:
1. It is necessary to expose the lens, the subject and the camera itself
2. It is inconvenient to adjust the position of all 3 parts of the shooting

Therefore, it was decided to experiment and make a lens as a lens attachment. The difficulty was that the lens and objective diameters are different. In my case, one of the lenses was half a centimeter smaller in diameter than the lens diameter (which is 67mm).
Therefore, I made the following trick - I broke off the lens holder (which one was and which one can be seen in the photo below), and added the difference in diameters with ordinary adhesive tape.

how was the lens made

I advise winding in such a way that the adhesive tape and the lens in the frame are on the table in order to avoid beveling of the adhesive tape.

When winding, it was necessary to periodically check whether it is sufficiently wound.

This was done quite simply - an attempt to establish lens to lens. After several attempts, everything worked out.
After - it remains only to cut off the residual protrusion of the adhesive tape.

Now you could start shooting.
When shooting the problem of setting the composition and parameters of the system was already absent - everything became ingeniously simple - point and shoot.
Here's what happened with this experiment. (Please note that the 3 photos below are not cropped - that is, not cropped, but are originals, pinched to a smaller size while maintaining the aspect ratio).

Of course, free cheese is only in a mousetrap, so I'll say about cons of such a setup:
1. Very large chromatic aberrations (which are almost impossible to cure with a software chromodome)
2. Terrible distortion (which can be treated by cropping the central zone of the photo)
3. The inconvenience of installing lenses
4. Inability to photograph at large 2F lenses (corrected for lens)

But Of course there are pluses:
1. Cheapness (the supplied lens costs 8 UAH. 30. kopecks, which is the equivalent of 45 rubles, or 1 dollar)
2. Easy to create
3. The ability to create "psychedelic creations"
4. At a critical moment, you can still photograph that little thing that you need.

Conclusions? Experiment and experiment again!

P.S. The original size of the photo monitor can be viewed  here. Successes to all!

And if instead of household lenses to use photographic lenses that were used for photo printing? For example, the Polish Emitars and our industries are cheap. And if possible, express an opinion on Industar 69 from Chaika 2M as a macro lens for a cropped SLR. Thanks.

    • Arkady Shapoval

If you can put Industar 69 on a cropped DSLR, then it will only be shot macro, it’s difficult to guess about the vignette. You can only play with magnifying lenses; they are of little use for serious work.

  • Valery

Industar 69, like Vega 11 U, shoots only macro, sharpness and color are much better in Vega, but an increase in Industar 69 gives more. So I'm thinking of selling Industar or waiting for the spring macro experiments ...

  • Valery

Industar 69 Mz9 bayonet mount and through two adapters is put on the DSLR.

  • Do not tell me which adapters are needed to mount the Industar-69 lens to the Nikon d-3000 camera

    • Arkady Shapoval

M39-M42 + M42-Nikon, but the lens will not work normally, only in macro mode.

everything is solved easier - on the market I bought old Soviet Zh-2 sphytofilters with a diameter of 55 mm for 20 rubles / pc, in optics I ordered several lenses +2, +4, +8, +20, asked that they be adjusted to the diameter (their diameter was 56mm ) and all the problems. We take out the glass from the light filter, put the lens — an excellent macro nozzle for the lens is ready — no scotch tape or a headache, and considering that it cost me 150 rubles, it’s wonderful in general. The pictures are magnificent, no

And what if the lens is Fisheye?

    • Arkady Shapoval

I tried, but the Chinese eyes for the doors crumbled when installed on the camera.

For macro photography I used rings between the lens and the device. Is this method already forgotten or does your lens not be removed?

  • Vitalik

At my place lay an old half-scattered Super Albinar 35-105mm still of Japanese assembly, it was a pity to throw everything away (how many screws, balls and lenses are there;)). I unscrew the front lens block (~ 9 Dptr, f62mm !!!, enlightenment + achromat (there are actually a couple of lenses) !!!) carefully glueed the ring with the 52mm thread I needed on the block with hot glue. The quality of the picture, I think, is not worse than the vaunted Raynox, and I got a much better aperture than the Raynox250 (a hole of a hoo). Yes, and the appearance was decent. In short, it cannot be compared with spectacle lenses or Chinese macro sets of 4 simple lenses.
Whoever has such old stuff (in a constructive with a suitable positive front lens-block !!!) and do not mind tearing it apart - try it, you will be pleasantly surprised by the quality of the macro picture.
And to remove this lens, I did not even need to disassemble the entire lens, since it was twisted in front (after loosening 3 locking microscrews, flush around the circumference)

He himself photographed in this way, only with a telephone camera, of course the quality is not so good, because of the small MP on the phone, but still the photo is mesmerizing :) then the lens was attached to a soap dish the quality became cooler http://gfranq.com/wass_lv#42584924 Now I switched to the upside down lens on Kenon http://gfranq.com/wass_lv#48208562 Conclusions I love macro :) With false lenses, a good super macro is obtained

  • Wass

By the way, how do I achieve such an increase? as in this picture: http://regayipkocak82.35photo.ru/photo_582091/

I apologize in advance for many links.

      Great insects !!

The enlarged glasses you bought are spherical. what if you try an aspherical eyeglass lens that is not a turned lens? I work in optics, and I deal with spectacle lenses from CARL Z as well. The manufacturer claims that on the aspherical Superb lens the smallest XP-e abb-i and distortion. need to try

An irreplaceable program for working with macro - Helicon_focus. http://www.photo-soft.ru/
It's just that the miracles of macro-optics are obtained with focus bracketing ...

  • Vladislav

"Left to right" - "right" - together (twice in one paragraph)
“… And long focus” = “long”
"We get an enlargement of the image on the face" - "obvious" - together

  • wife

    cool

  • Andrey Super

Goal for fiction is cunning! But well done! I photographed a macro on zenith with rings in ancient times, recently teared up the zenith and bought an adapter for Nikon, I continue and aggravate!))))))
I recommend the adapter of the Soviet model KP-42 / N - bomb.
    Cost 80 UAH - 220 rubles. about.

  • Gorin

I read a lot and watched a lot, as I just discover the world of photography, I am doing experiments. I bought myself a Helios 44m and found an industrial 26m…. it turned out that it is easy to insert an industar into Helios without adapters, etc. ... The result-macro (super-macro or not super, I don't know) is very funny and cute

  • Alexander Rifeev

and what they just don’t come up with, just not to buy a good macro lens with a focal length of 50 mm or 100 mm, or at its extreme poverty - extension rings :-)

    • Rodion

Vega-11 already looks like not the worst option, right?
